Can't Send SMS Text Messages - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi
This damned *#*#4636#*#* menu!!!
I know, I shouldn't be messing with what I don't know but I moved from an iphone so that I could 'fiddle' with a phone hence the GNex.
Anyhow. I have been having serious issues in sorting this out until I pieced the information together in this post. None of this I can take credit for - as it is built on others work - I just put it together in one easily accessible place.
The problem is that this menu somehow wipes the SIM card's record of the SMSC number.
You can't just enter the SMS Centre number as it is, you have to convert it into something called PDU format (no idea what this is)
I have converted a number of UK SMS Centre numbers into the correct format below.
Method:
1. Go to phone dialpad.
2. Enter *#*#4636#*#*
3. Scroll down to the bit that says SMSC
4. Type your sixteen digit number in from the table below.
5. Press Update
6. Press Refresh
7. Press Back button to exit the app.
8. Test by sending an SMS
Hope that helps. The GNex doesn't give an option which is easily accessible from anywhere to change the SMSC number, downright silly as my 10 year old Nokia would let me do that.
Just to help a few peoples out in the UK:
Network, Number, SMSC to type in
Vodafone (Monthly), +447785016005, 0791447758100650

O2 (Pay & Go), +447802092035, 0791448720900253

Tesco, +447802092035, 0791448720900253
Virgin, +447958879890, 0791449785788909

Hope that helps someone out there as it helped me. I've been pulling out my hair all day...

My PDU number was not in this list, i solved this by moving my sim card to an old phone, and inserting the phone number there.

I am trying to change the SMSC number of my HTC t-mobile G2 via *#*#4636#*#* command through phone information screen.
But I get no reaction from the device though I push the update and refresh buttons.
And I am still unable to send sms with my phone. I checked also with the service provider. No problem from their side...
Is this hopeless?

Calls to this number are bard

Hello forum
I’m having issues retrieving voice mail by pressing the relevant button 1.
Each time press 1 for voice mail I get a warning tone saying “Calls to this number are bard” the only way to retrieve voicemail is to dial 222 via the service provider’s options.
I’ve been in contact with my network provider and have had the voice mail set up but I still can’t access voice mail. Can some one help please?
Hi, I really dont know much about your network, but in order for dialing "1" to access my voicemail to work, I had to enter my voicemail number under 1 in speed dial.
Im not sure if you have already done that, or if youre running an oem rom, you may not have to, is it dialing the correct number, when you press "1"?
Also under "settings" / "phone" / "services" tab, you can select to retrieve voicemail, and txt settings....not sure of that may help either.
Sorry if you have already covered this, I just know its easy to overlook things at times, and thought I might suggest it, hope you get your problem sorted.
call to this number are bard.
Thanks for the advice; I’ve actually tried that method the first time I was in contact with service provider T-mobile and it didn’t work. T -mobile push the problem to HTC as the manufacture of the unit. I was in contact with HTC, but the very nice and helpful tech support lady concluded its t-mobile problem. Currently stuck in between.
I'm experiencing the same thing. You can run the programe called "Interactive". Select voice service then call voicemail. A message will ask you if you want to call voicemail, tap yes and it calls. It's an around the house way of doing it, but i know of no other solution right now.
BTW i have a vario III on t-mobile.
Ok i think i've worked it out I was having the same problem.
As from the previous post....when in phone select/ "Menu"/ "Options" in "settings" you'll see a "services" tab, select that then you can select to retrieve voicemail, and txt settings.
Check the voicemail number...I notice that the phone or t-mobile added 050 to the number. If you have something similar you need to remove it. You voicemail number should be you number with +44 at the start, with the first "0" removed and the rest of your number. Eg if your number was:
07951123456
its should read +447951123456
I did this and it works fine.If it works for you maybe you could pass the information onto on to T-mobile.
Hope that helps.

Where did you get the device?? What ROM is it running? pretty sure the 050 might have been added by the ROM or national on the OS. The network should report the full international number (ie the +44xxxxxxxxxxx number).
he is right

I bought it off Ebay. It's running wm6.1, i'm sure it said in the description that it was a HTC Rom, could be wrong ( HTC website is the default site in IE )...but the inital problem is easily sortable.
ps. +44 is the code for the uk, other countries would have different codes, so remember to take that into consideration.

A thanks guy the directions has resolved the issue and I can now dial number one on hemers to retrieve voice mail. As you quite rightly said three digits added in the set of numbers for the voice mail (060) This is what I did START =>SETTINGS=>PHONE=>SERVICES=> high light VOICE MAIL AND TEXT MESSAGE=> click GET SETTINGS=> check the voice mail numbers for any unusual among the set of voice mail numbers.

[Q] Voicemail number not being stored on my HD7

Hi everyone.
This is my first post here, but I've been reading the forums for a while now.
I have a question and i wonder if anyone else has had the same experience.
Whenever I tap the voicemail button I get a notice saying that my voicemail isn't configured and that i should enter my voicemail number. I enter the number and I get to my voicemail. When I do it again I get the same notice, so clearly its not storing my number. Does anyone else have this same problem? Or a possible solution?
I have the HTC HD7 bought from O2 in Germany running the pre-Nodo update. My carrier is MTN (South Africa).
The voicemail number is 100.
Thanks.
Settings > applications [pivot] > phone
at the very top it has voicemail number, click the button and you should be able to set it and save it there.
Thanks for your reply. I've done that.I tap on the button, enter the voicemail number and press save, but it still says unassigned.
if that's the case, i would ask on Microsoft Answers (social.microsoft.com) as it would be the best place to get a work around and possibly a flag for them to fix it.

Wrong Phone number in "About Phone"

HI!
I have a HTC Desire CDMA through a small carrier called Bluegrass Cellular. I was having problems with my recovery so i ran RUU by US Cellular. Now my phone number in about phone is showing 0000002538.
It is obvious that the number is wrong. I have flashed the same RUU without any problems.
Now i cannot make calls at all. Most threads say use another phone to fix your sim card. Well my carrier dont use sim cards.
I know there has to be a way to fix it... I mean bluegrass has to put my phone number in somehow. I typed ##3282# and changed my MSID to the correct phone number but still have not fixed my problem.
Anyone have any ideas? I now have a phone that will not do any type of communication.
I just fixed it. I don't know how it fixed it but here is what I did...
I reran the same RUU... US Cellular (2.1):
http: // 2fastroms.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=87
Then opened dialer and dialed ##3282#.
Clicked "Edit Mode"
used my carriers password (usually "000000")
Clicked "Advanced"
Clicked "MSID"
Changed MSID to my 10 digit phone number
Clicked "Menu" Button
Clicked "Commit Changed"
Clicked "Ok" to reboot phone
And that fixed it. Good luck with anyone else with this problem!
and remember do this at your own risk! I am not responsible for any error it may cause!
well i just realized that that only fixed my issue where it cannot call text or talk.. But it however did not change the number back in "About Phone".
Any ideas?

My GSM phone has the same prob... but it happened when a moved my old phone number from my last phone over to my new sim card.... my about phone shows the number I had for 5 days before my old number replaced it, it is only a cosmetic thing. (the number it shows does not work by the way)
Ill look into it and if i can find any thing ill post here for you
I figured out how to fix it... I was like duh when u did. All u have to do is dial ##000000# (could change depending on ur carrier). And click edit mode. Then it will allow you to edit MSID AND MDN all in one page. Hope this helps somebody else!
I fixed it if you have the probs with GSM cards, pop it in a SIM reader and edit the "My Phone Numbers" field

i can recive sms,but cant send enyone. in config is selected WCDMA preferred, and i cant change it.

Sounds like your SMSC number have been messed up. Search a little in this forum to find how to change it.
/Edit: Thnx to S7evinK
Getting the real SMSC for android is a bit tricky
1.) Find the SMS centre number of your carrier (e.g. for t-mobile DE -> +49 171 076 0000)
2.) go to http://twit88.com/home/utility/sms-pdu-encode-decode
3.) Enter the SMS centre number in the field "SMSC" and clear receiver and the message "How are you?"
4.) Click on "Convert"
5.) On the right side you'll see something like (in my example)
0791947101670000110000910000AA00
the first two digits show you the length. (7)
6.) 7x2+2 = 16 (+2 cause of the length needed[?]); Mark 16 digits from the start of the number. (here 0791947101670000) Thats your SMSC Number.
Go back to
*#*#4636#*#*
first option, scroll down to "SMSC" and enter your SMSC, click the button directly next to the input field.
Leave this screen and go back to it. Scroll down to the SMSC section and click the right button. (if everything is correct, you should now see the correct SMSC number instead of "00")

Texts not finding contacts information

Hi Folks,
I am using a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE phone, Android version 13, One UI version 5.0 and have suddenly started having a problem with texts not being associated with certain contacts and texts failing to get sent - first few texts work and then subsequent ones do not.
I entered a contact as +61 for the country code and then the number (australian number). When I text the person I can select their contact information and the text goes out. If the person replies, rather than coming back on that message thread, it comes back showing a number only - ie: 61 xxx xxx xxx. The "+" to designate an interanational number is missing. Not sure why this is happening.
I am using FIDO (rogers) as my service provider. I did take the phone to Australia recently and used it only on the day I arrived. I then shut it down and replaced the SIM with an Australian SIM from a providerr there for the duration of my stay. When I got back to Canada I replaced the Australian SIM with my FIDO sim. It seems that that was when the problem started. I have deleted cache and data for the SMS app (Textra), I removed the person as a contact and re-entered their information (still did not work). I reverted to using the Samsung built in SMS app (Messages) and the problem still occurs. When you select the contact information from within the SMS app it shows their number but without the "+" code - I enter all my phone numbers as "+" then country code an number.
This has become a bit of a nuisance as calling the person from the SMS app says that their number is invalid - I have to go to main contacts, look them up and then select their number. Then Main contacts database has the correct format for the numbers - i.e. "+" then Country Code and then the number.
Any assistance with this issue would be greatly appreciated as I have run out of ideas short of a factory reset of the phone which will be a major headache.
Cheers, Dave Melnyk
