always worked properly this service until 2day (nothing changed) and i dont think is provider related because reciving works grat. any advice?

Sounds like your SMSC number have been messed up. Search a little in this forum to find how to change it.
/Edit: Thnx to S7evinK
Getting the real SMSC for android is a bit tricky
1.) Find the SMS centre number of your carrier (e.g. for t-mobile DE -> +49 171 076 0000)
2.) go to http://twit88.com/home/utility/sms-pdu-encode-decode
3.) Enter the SMS centre number in the field "SMSC" and clear receiver and the message "How are you?"
4.) Click on "Convert"
5.) On the right side you'll see something like (in my example)
0791947101670000110000910000AA00
the first two digits show you the length. (7)
6.) 7x2+2 = 16 (+2 cause of the length needed[?]); Mark 16 digits from the start of the number. (here 0791947101670000) Thats your SMSC Number.
Go back to
*#*#4636#*#*
first option, scroll down to "SMSC" and enter your SMSC, click the button directly next to the input field.
Leave this screen and go back to it. Scroll down to the SMSC section and click the right button. (if everything is correct, you should now see the correct SMSC number instead of "00")

Removing area code on BA

THis may be a newb question, and i had it set up somehow while running WM2003 but i cant seem to remove the brackets on the numbers that are calling me, so i have to redo about 400 contacts just so that i can get their name on screen while they are calling me
Example:
The phone now whenever someone is calling me it shows (697)6767676 and i want to make it 6976767676,
Help!
dont fret and worry about it...
it's just a display (it's hardcoded in Windows to show the first three in parenthesis) ... the real numbers dont have the any special chars aside from p w +, et. al.
Yes i know its only a display thingamajig, although whenever i get a call from someone it wont show me their name unless i have altered the actual number with so that it contains the brackets in the contact itself :S

None of my contacts have ( ) stored in their numbers, The format I used is +country_code number and every time someone calls me with or without the country code showing it displays the name that corresponds. Example: I have have a contact named Fred Murphy with the number +965 1234567 when he calls if I am in Kuwait it shows only as 123-4567 if I am overseas it shows as +965 123-4567 both times I see his name Fred Murphy on my screen. It has always been this way for me no matter which version of windows I have run. I was not aware that it worked any other way.
You have to choose your regional settings correctly and it will disappear.
settings > system > regional settings.
JP
or
check for duplicate phone number entries...
even though you have the name in the sim and the phone, the phone cant decide which name to show, so our phone shows only the number.

BIG problem!!, Text message to contact's secondary number

I have this problem.
I have a contact. He has two mobile numbers. I add both numbers to this contact.
I cannot seem to be able to send a message to the secondary number . It just will not show up when I type the "Name" in the to: field when writing a new SMS.
It only displays numbers marked as "Mobile"
The secondary one is marked as "Home"
I have options for: home, company, work, car.. etc, none of them work.
I cannot send a message even from the contacts screen..,,
How do I resolve this???
I just checked. It totally works fine. Send a new sms. put your cursor where you would type the name and press enter. you get the contact list. select contact and number voila.
next time, it is already in your messages.
yes, saved my day, just checked myself, never thought of pressing enter with the "to:" field empty.
still it should have had an option for setting a secondary mobile.... maybe some registry hacking????
I also noticed this barf today. If you type in the beginning of a person's name to the "TO:" field, it autofills it nicely, but automatically assumes the "Mobile Phone" number field will be used and there's NO way to change it.
The alternative way (press ENTER in the empty TO:-field) works, but again is an extra step too far.
The Windows UI guys really need to get their act together (maybe a bit those TF3D guys too). I'd expect this from a designer temp for his summer job, but not in a mass-market v.6 release in 2009!
I always have this problem,
Pressing ENTER works fine I see. I usually started up a new SMS, then went to "Menu > Add Recipient" and then the contact list is openend too ...
I have the same problem with two persons with alike names:
For example:
Tom Vaan
and
Tom Vaander
In the To: field I type Tom and only get the "Tom Vaan", no way to change it to "Tom Vaander"

You can also tap on the "TO:" text.

ring time

doesnt matter which ring tone i use thephone only rings for about 10 secs before going to answer phone
can i extend this in any way looked in settings but cant see any thing
I think this has to be done using codes from your provider, for example Vodafone has this procedure:
The code you need is as follows:
**61*121**XX#
Replace XX with the number of seconds you want the phone to ring for, in multiples of 5. Shortest is 05 and longest is 30.
Press send on the phone, and it should respond with the message "Call Divert No Reply" or similar.
Hope this helps.
im on voda phone
tried that and got a parameters are not valid message
You don't need to use the GSM codes (although it will work.) You can do this in the standard Windows Mobile Settings in the personal tab. Personal -> Phone -> Services tab -> Call Forwarding -> ..
Look for 'Forward phone calls only if ... No answer: forward after xxx seconds.
Very handy - thanks

Can't Send SMS Text Messages

Hi
This damned *#*#4636#*#* menu!!!
I know, I shouldn't be messing with what I don't know but I moved from an iphone so that I could 'fiddle' with a phone hence the GNex.
Anyhow. I have been having serious issues in sorting this out until I pieced the information together in this post. None of this I can take credit for - as it is built on others work - I just put it together in one easily accessible place.
The problem is that this menu somehow wipes the SIM card's record of the SMSC number.
You can't just enter the SMS Centre number as it is, you have to convert it into something called PDU format (no idea what this is)
I have converted a number of UK SMS Centre numbers into the correct format below.
Method:
1. Go to phone dialpad.
2. Enter *#*#4636#*#*
3. Scroll down to the bit that says SMSC
4. Type your sixteen digit number in from the table below.
5. Press Update
6. Press Refresh
7. Press Back button to exit the app.
8. Test by sending an SMS
Hope that helps. The GNex doesn't give an option which is easily accessible from anywhere to change the SMSC number, downright silly as my 10 year old Nokia would let me do that.
Just to help a few peoples out in the UK:
Network, Number, SMSC to type in
Vodafone (Monthly), +447785016005, 0791447758100650
O2 (Monthly), +447802000332, 0791448720003023
O2 (Pay & Go), +447802092035, 0791448720900253
Orange, +447973100973, 0791449737019037
Orange, +447973100974, 0791449737019047
T-Mobile, +447958879879, 0791449785788997
Tesco, +447802092035, 0791448720900253
Virgin, +447958879890, 0791449785788909

GiffGaff, +447802002606, 0791448720006260
Hope that helps someone out there as it helped me. I've been pulling out my hair all day...

This should be stickied in the Q&A section
My PDU number was not in this list, i solved this by moving my sim card to an old phone, and inserting the phone number there.

I am trying to change the SMSC number of my HTC t-mobile G2 via *#*#4636#*#* command through phone information screen.
But I get no reaction from the device though I push the update and refresh buttons.
And I am still unable to send sms with my phone. I checked also with the service provider. No problem from their side...
Is this hopeless?

SMSC, PDU Encoder, I don't send mesage nexus 5

Hello. I get the message, but I cannot send. The message center number: +905598008000 please help me. SMSC part of what is to be entered? Thanks. Country:Turkey avea
I've accomplished, how is that? ı have nexus 5
Dial *#*#4636#*#* then go to Phone Information you can see the “SMSC: ” field.
Tip: DON’T PRESS UPDATE, PRESS “REFRESH” TO SEE THE CURRENT SETTING!!!
For example if actual SMSC number is: +447785016005, however inputting this into the field and hitting update just produces “update error”. The issue is that this needs to be translated into PDU format (Protocol Description Unit) and you can do that here:
http://www.twit88.com/home/utility/sms-pdu-encode-decode.
For the number above, this turns out to be 0791447758100650
For some people, entering the PDU number above into your SMSC field in the testing menu and pressing “update” will have the desired effect but for me, the “update” button won’t work unless you have a “+” in front of the number which is no use at all.
The solution? Take the SIM card out and stick it in a non-android phone , go to the messageing app, settings, message centre number and enter the real number, i.e. +447785016005.
Save, exit, power off, replace SIM into Android phone, job done.
