When I'm at work, I turn my 3G off because I get terrible service inside. If I receive a MMS message during that time, obviously it's not going to download. But once I step outside and turn 3G on to try to download the message, it just says it's downloading...but it never does. Is there a way to refresh the download so that I can view the picture? I looked and looked but can't find ANYTHING so any help or suggestions would be great.
Oh, and it doesn't have anything to do with my phone going haywire because if I'm connected to 3G when a MMS message comes in, it downloads perfectly fine.

I want to be able to turn off the Radio only so that when I'm Wire-Tethered to my PC and playing a game I don't get any calls or texts to slow down my connection or be disturbed.
I found a thread in general where someone advised using tasker but it's $6 and I just want to be able to disable radio only. Airplane mode kills everything.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
There has to be a way...
There might be a way to do it via dial pad commands. I know that I was able to do this on a Droid in the past. I'm looking into, but make no promises.
edit:
Ok, this is what I've come up with.
*#INFO*1111# - Testing mode
Go into Phone Info...
Scroll down to Set preferred network type:
CDMA only
This should make it so the only cellular connection would be a data connection.
For my phone WCDMA Preferred is the default, which should be what you want to go back to to allow phone calls again.
Let me know if that works for you?
There's an app I used when I was on Eclair called Widgetsoid. It was the ability to toggle pretty much anything u can think of on your phone. I havent installed it since upgrading to Froyo so I can't verify that it can do what you need but its free and probably worth the download in any case. Check it out and let me know.

details of what this app can do are on the developer's website:
http://jaumard.android.free.fr/widgetsoid/
Doesn't list being able to disable text/voice while keeping data alive.
Thanks guys I'll check out both of those!

No it doesn't but I tried it anyway and found that no, it really doesn't. Thanks for trying though. I'm having a brainfart on typing letters into the dialer... how is that done again?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Just goto the phone dialer and type in those exact *,# and numbers (info is 4636)
once you put in the last # it will take you to the "testing" menu.
Let me know how it goes.
OK, I see it... will let you know how it works... Also, aren't our phones supposed to be set to CDMA? It had unknown and now it shows WCDMA. Isn't this the cause of the TWS bug?

It works great... Thanks!
Happy to help. I'm not sure exactly why it starts with WCDMA and then goes to unknown, haven't really looked into it too much.

It is the cause of the TWS bug. Our phones are constantly searching for a gsm signal never to be found. Causing battery drain. It has to do with the Galaxy S i9000 being gsm and samsungs poor ability to make changes to the coding.
Sent from my always stock, froyo Epic
This actually assisted in correcting or at least varifying another problem's solution. I've seen forum discussions point to PRL updates solving the TWS issue but other say it doesn't. However I installed sprintzone and let it install the PRL for my area. In doing so it set the default radio search shown using steve's info trick shown above. And no more TWS after reboots.
Woohoo!

When I see the wimax radio sleeping... (zzz on top of the 4g icon) what's going on? Do I not have data, am I on evdo, 1x, etc? Also when the phone is in standby (screen off and phone off the charger) what's going on? Is it the same if the phone was on the charger? I'm using Google voice, which requires a data connection for SMS... so I was just curious. Thanks.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
its the same as 3g. When its not being used, it goes dormant, until something wakes it up, even if the screen is off. the "zzz" thing is just samsungs way of being fancy.
HOWEVER...there are a few posts about some apps not waking the 4g connection properly, i think specifically google voice. Do a few searches and youll find em
I notice a lag when i use Facebook its slow to connect reconnect on 4G
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Ahh OK. I wasn't sure. I had an evo 3d and of just turned the wimax radio on... then it would disconnect after a while...

Sorry! Misread that. Thought it said mms. To do that you have to integrate Google Voice into your Sprint (only Sprint) line. Either clear data on google voice and set it up that way... or goto google.com/voice nad choose a new number. Click use my mobile number and it will ask for your number. Just follow the instructions and click Sprint integration DO NOT PORT YOUR NUMBER or you will be charged.
So here is another issue. Which i already search and no one seems to have had it but my unlucky self. The issue has been since day one, but though it might go away either by itself or by me figuring it out, however it has yet. Whenever i get an attachment in SMS, a pic for example, it wont automatically show. Instead it will say DOWNLOAD, and i have to click on it.
Once click, it will say downloading, but it will never download it. I have never being able to download any attachment from SMS, which another way to call it is MMS. I dont see why it does this and how i can fix this. I have unlimited data, and its working. I can go to the web, download from the market or anywhere. But i can never download an attachment.
Any suggestions?

After so much headaches, i decided to try my luck one more time at Factory Reset. Well, this time it help. Now i am able to received and send pictures. I am slowly installing apps that i had before and trying to figure out which one, if any was the caused.
Thank you all.
Good luck to the rest. If you have not done a Factory Reset, try it out.
I looked through and only found a thread from the previous forums that talked about this with no apparent fix.
I'm having an issue where I will occasionally have my messages fail, even with full signal. The message will go grey after an attempt to send and then show an exclamation point for the fail. Sometimes it allows me to send if I go into airplane mode, which for some reason will take a long time sometimes, and then turn off air plane mode. That usually fixes the issue. I can also just try and resend and it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I'm afraid that if after like four times that I get the fail on the same message that I did indeed send it all those times like some people have suggested. It happens to texts that are short and long. I've tried connecting to wifi when it happens at my place, but that doesn't necessarily fix it either.
I don't know if when this is happening if I can receive phone calls, but that would probably be something I should try if I'm out with some friends when it happens.
Anyone else experienced this, or know of something that could possibly fix it?

What ROM are you on?
That happens to me sometimes too. Even when its still sending like it has that loading bubble next to the message the other person will receive it. I've had that happen where i got a reply for my message which according to the messaging app was not yet sent.
But yeah its quite annoying when it happens. WiFi calling feature does not help either. I use the airplane trick like you said and it usually works.

This happens to me also about once a day. I can be right in the middle of a conversation and it will just stop sending even if im on wifi.
So I'm guessing no one has a fix for this or any ideas on why it happens.

I think this is possibly a gsm thing as my sprint s3 never did this for the 2 weeks I had it. It happens to me on tmo and I have to do the wireless off then on.

try setting ur smsc manually and see if that helps, you can follow how here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/SMSC_Updates

Do you have system tuner installed?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I may try setting my smsc manually, but yesterday I spoke with technical support and explained to them that I've been having this problem on both sgs3 handsets I've had and that the only thing that seems to work for me is going into airplane mode and back.
She reset my provisions on my account/phone or whatever and told me to see if that works. I'm going to go ahead and wait till it happens again before I change anything.

Has anyone tried to use wifi calling feature yet? Every time I try to turn it on I get a dialog box that says "Not Available. Unable to connect to a network. Please move to a new location and try again."
I don't know how to get wifi calling to work. I'm going to take my phone in to the sprint store to see if they can do something but if anyone on here know a solution it would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Just got my phone today and it worked first try. Setup and usage was exactly the same as my Note 3.
In my one short call, both parties comment on very good sound quality and I felt the latency as good as I'd ever heard it.
Try using your city state and zip only. Leave the address blank and it should work. Or click locate me and it give you options to choose from and choose from the list.
I put my exact address in and it give me that error you had too.
