Nokia Lumia 900 revealed!! - Windows Phone 7 General

http://wmpoweruser.com/nokia-lumia-900-black-and-cyan-press-shots-wow/ the phone looks nice.

Pretty amazing they got this level of phone together since this relationship is less than a year old...I can only imagine what they will bring to the table with windows phone 8 when it's released at the end of the year...

I want this device but I want the red one. Im thinking should I wait for Apollo devices or get this. I will be getting another device in 2013 so I think I will get this.

The road is not so easy for these guys......two giants......Google's Android and Apple's iPhone are blocking the road........ http://mirolta.com/2012/01/10/nokia-announces-lumia-900-a-lte-windows-phone-is-coming-to-u-s/

it is quite a device

Has there been any news if this is going to be an international device?
I'm due an upgrade here in the UK soon and this would be my device of choice if possible... I'd feel a little cheated if I only had the 800 option open to me

Nokia has officially announced the Lumia 900, the third handset in its Windows Phone 7-powered series – inhabited by the Lumia 800 and 710. It says the phone is designed specifically for the North American buyer, and is an LTE 4G phone headed exclusively to the US AT&T network. Not much use for us UK folk, then.
That the Lumia 900 is a US-only LTE device makes us sad pandas, but we're sure it won't be too long until an iteration upon this design appears in other areas of Europe, including the UK.
Ah well :/

http://www.nokia.com/us-en/products/phone/lumia900/

I'm looking forward to see this Device

Even in US this would be available only after a few months so I dont think we can expect something in UK for 3 - 4 months.
Think I might have have to go for the 800 after all cant hold out much longer.

Honestly, I'm not too impressed. I was hoping for a larger camera sensor than what's on the Lumia 800, preferably something like the N8. Plus, at least at launch it's limited to 16GB storage.

if you notice the back of the phone is only carl ziess branding. They are really empathizes the camera with this phone by doing that. I have a hunch that this phone will take great pictures.

Is there a point in upgrade to Lumia 900 if you already have a Mango device?

You mean a 2nd gen? All devices have Mango so I'll assume thats what you meant.
Then the answer is no. Wait for Apollo. You will see more from all the OEM's including Nokia, and you'll see dual core, HD screen resolutions ect out later this year.

The Samsung Focus Flash is a 2nd gen device. It's great, but the Lumia 900 has a faster processor, better camera, better screen, faster 4G, and other cool features. On the other hand, if you have a Titan or Focus S, the Lumia's nicer than those, but the difference isn't as big.
BTW, Titan II or Lumia 900? (My vote's for the Lumia)

Well, just rumors of coarse. Nothing official will be said about apollo for months.
Their leaked roadmap shows "superphones" to be released with Apollo. MS_Nerd tweeted that this will include some sort of higher resolution (maybe a factor of 1.5 or 2?). There have been a bunch of other blog posts on it, but of coarse if you are looking for proof there is none.
They also just officially added support for dual core phones a couple months back so you know thats coming.

i think i am going to get the nokia lumia 900 and upgrade to something newer and better next year in 2013.

Excellent. Well maybe I'll just hold off, then. Was toying with getting a 900.

Apollo is rumored to bring support for 720p as well as support for Snapdragon MSM8960 (and apparently ST-Ericsson NovaThor and Samsung Exonys in a later update)
I'm hoping for my dream device: 720p, at least dual core, 1+ gig of RAM, and 32+ gigs of storage. Fingers crossed?
I do have an upgrade in April though, and the 1.4/1.5GHz processors in these 2G phones seem to address most of my performance complaints. Hopefully I can stay strong though.

Sad day for me.
Hopefully and probably fake.
The HTC HD series has always been their Top of the line phone, and I don't think that they'll release a phone that is an exact copy of the aging Desire hardwarewise. Espesially not when Qualcomm is delivering new, updated Snapdragon processors that's both more energy efficient and faster.
And 8GB memory? That'll be very tight for anyone planning to use their phone for media.
The specifications sheet might only be a placeholder until HTC officially announces the HD3/HD7... At least I hope so... And hope dies last!
I really hope this is a fake! Surely they wouldn't release a near copy if not inferior phone to the last model of thier flagship model!?
I have had my hTc hd2 leo since April, and it was my first smartphone. It took 3 solid days to get accustomed to the new frontier (mine was and still is a bit buggy), and no, I am too scared to flash ROMS just yet.
Although I have a TON of themes and other custom eye candy upgrades. I love cabs btw.
Anyways, if XDA were a woman I would make sweet love to it, but these conflicting reports are really bad.
Is it or is it not real?
I have a feeling that much like me most leo owners are gonna keep theirs even when newer HTC models arrive. Great hardware and an awesome crew of chefs will assure the popularity. I could be wrong, but that is my opinion.
a forward facing camera is about the only thing...oh, flash too, that I wish my dear leo had.
so, until there is solid evidence of the new phone XDA should be a bit more dilligent about moderating the posting real info because noobs like me confuse easily...
--
They simply use and unblock with software some "features" of the Qualcomm chipset. Infact, if you look datasheet of Qualcomm 8250 you will see that he can record 720p video and have a 12mpx camera sensor inside..so the new economy is still use an "old" platform in brand new devices for show to us a sort of new model. I think that if HD2 today is still in the smartphone top-ten, we must say thanks to his versatility. Maybe HTC wasn't know 1 years ago that this device will be a miliar stone. Today we have android, winmo 6.5 and very probabily the new brand new WP7. We need other.?
And we must remember that also with the newest radio version, our HD2 received an increase of battey life. We have only trust in the time and in XDA Dev.
Best Regards

Spec sheet aside, the external design is just flat out disappointing and underwhelming. What happened to the aluminum unibody on the other leaked phones? Why does that not carry over to flagship device? Instead we get this tacky looking plastic back.
I mean, it's just as if HTC said, "Let's take the HD2, remove the metal on the back, and remove the buttons on the front... and give it a kickstand because people love that s**t."
I can't make judgments until I actually hold the device, but so far, it doesn't look promising.

^this too.
i love my hd2 , unless this phone blows my hd2 away ....it aint happening ,lets see closed platform and less storage .......NOT , ill stick with my hd2
All we need is a chef to move this to our HD2!
I will absolutely stick with an HD2 over the HD3. I don't think I'm going to like WP7, so I hope someone can get that OS on the HD2, just so I can play with it. It just seems too iPhone-ish to me.
Symbian seems kind an old system with others leaving it. ATT & Windows both closed systems. Android an open system where it appears to be growing. I'm just a runt though I learned & still use windows w/my PC but my Droid 2 still not comepletly rooted works OK, so I don't see myself using a WM 7 anytime soon.
I'm really not liking how all the confirmed WP7 devices will be sporting the first gen snapdragon processor (im assuming with the underpformating Adreno 200 GPU as well). In saying that, I'm still gonna wait til it is officially unveiled, if you guys don't remember, when the HD2 was leaked, it was said to have 320mb RAM.. it ended up having 448/576 instead, so theres still some hope.
If it remains, I'll be waiting for the samsung specs to pop out, hopefully hummingbird/SGX540 CPU/GPU combo.

This is not going to happen. There's one thing that's worse than a previous generation processor though - a new processor with drivers and software that cannot use it.
If the specs are right then it looks like those of us with a HD2 will probably be able to try WP7 sooner rather than later. As I don't want a new phone to be tempting me I am pretty happy about this

All WP7 has are minimum requirements. i.e. ARMv7 Cortex/Scorpion or better... weird since last time i checked, the QSD8250 is not from the Scorpion family, and is only loosely related to the Cortex family (so spec changes could still occur imo).
Back to the point, if the Sammy were to have the Hummingbird/SGX540 combo, it still fullfills the minimum requirements (hummingbird is an ARMv7 Cortex CPU, so WP7 should support it). Last I heard, was that OEM's were to provide the GPU drivers, so if Sammy can make it work, that'd be awesome.
It was announced that all WP7 devices will be based on the same chip initially.

I think people are taking that comment WAY to literally. I can guarantee that he did not mean "arriving in stores on Christmas day". He meant for the Christmas shopping season. Which, for most people in the manufacturing and retail industries means "late October" .
Besides, we still don't know which will come first, new Mango devices, or the release of the Mango update to carriers for existing phones.
That's a GSII with WP7. Same as the original GS that became the Focus.

I do not believe so. Microsoft is being strick on Hardware. I believe their writing the chipset drivers themselves, which is why it's only Snapdragon 1st gen right now. They want to avoid the horrible driver issues that happened on WM, especial HTC & their crappy 3D drivers. Mango adds some 2nd gen Snapdragon support, but haven't seen anything dual core yet. Nevermind the fact that WP7 doesn't need it yet.
hopefully , ballmer will have enough sense to wait a little while AFTER the iphone 5 release... otherwise there's no point with the release.
no dualcores ? man, I hadn't heard that yet. there could be some awesome camera apps with that benefit.
I don't think anyone really need dual core atm, I was just asking to guess if Samsung could use the exact same hardware for wp7.
Sent from my Samsung Omnia 7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
They will just like they did with the Galaxy S -> Focus. Just remove some hardware stuff.
Part of me says Yea, for Dual cores, then another side does not...
Nice thing about WP7 now, everything runs on Every device but, once you get into to dual core CPUs, there will be games made for the dual core that don't run on the signle core...
So you would need to upgrade if you want to run everything...
Just like my windows PC that I have to spend about $600 a year (every 3 years about $1200) so I can run every game on the market with no slow downs and awsome frame rates..
we don't really need dual core at the moment.. games would get better, but devs still have to consider the first gen hardware..
It would be nice if WP7 phones were modular. You could replace components with upgraded ones. The latest CPU a dual core? No problem! Just flip a back panel open and pop in the dual core. Need a FFC? No problem! Just pop off the small front panel and plug in the FFC. Need an upgraded GPU? No problem! Just open up the cover and replace the existing one with the latest from ATi or nVidia.
Sounds a lot like custom computers but would be a boon for WP7.
I'm almost sure we will see mango + devices just in time for christmas, if all goes well, or more probably due to some hiccup in super-improving your new os version and devices, for your enjoyment, they will have to make it slide to january, which in turn means that most people will get the mango update in february/march. I think the first mango+nokia phones will be ready almost too late for christmas

After The Spec Release Of The Nokia L800 Is Anyone Else Thinking:

Grabbing a 64 N9, with the FFC, and putting WP7.5 on it? Best of both worlds right? Cake and ice cream?
Well.. i tried googling; whats "FFC" stands for?
Ffc = Front facing camera
Required for Skype, tango, video calling in general
Front Facing Camera.
Andyeah I really wish the N9 came out in America with WP7.5. I would of jumped the jump for that one. But the lumia 800... I feel that I am settling. Although i bet the battery life on that phone is amazing
At least the N9 has 64Gb storage.
And it took them 9 months to finally come to this.....?
Where has the money offered by Microsoft gone?
As big Nokia fan (i owned like 30 nokia phones) i'm pretty disappointed with their new phones and OS they choosed.
Ah. Yeah, like I said in the other topic, I missed that too. Non sense compairing with the second generation of WP7. All of them have FFC.
i would prefer an E7 with mango
I don't think that is going to happen. WP7 is only supposed to work on Qualcomm CPUs... the N9 uses a TI chip. Also it only has 1 GHz as opposed to 1.4 GHz... though the 1 GB RAM and 64 GB memory would be appreciated. But perhaps at least there will be a 64 GB version.

Also don't all WP devices need these three set buttons on the front and of course the N9 lacks any front buttons at all.
Can't put WP7 on the N9 since it is missing a cam button and the three face buttons (back, home, search) also the screen is an unsupported res also the cpu is not supported either. Still all nokia really had to do is tweak those things and NOT SCREW UP WHAT THEY ALREADY HAD IN PLACE... but I guess that was just too hard. Lost one sale to me, thats for sure. If this had FFC and 64GB of storage it woulda been a day one purchase for me. Now I'm prob gonna just get a Nexus or a Titan although both of them don't have a very good option for storage either... I want my 64GB... It's like I;m forced to buy an iPhone and I soooooo don't want to.
Totally agree. I could have lived with no FFC, but 16GB ONLY ? Why don't make different sizes, like the N9 ? Propose a 16GB for cheap, and ask for, say, 200$ more for a 64GB... I'd buy it ! But now, no big reason to buy it as I already have 16GB on my LG.

Yeah, I'd easily pay more for 64GB. As for reasons, we can only guess but I think it's due to manufacturing constraints. They can only produce a limited quantity initially, and opted for the most popular (cheaper) option.
Overall I wouldn't look at this device as a flagship for months to come (at least without modifications). Their first priority was to make it available, so they had to focus and left things behind.
I'll get it anyway, and if something better shows up soon I'll happily change. I like changing phones as often as I can. Don't give a damn about FFC. 16GB is tiny, but bearable, at least it's not 8 like on Radar or Omnia W.
Not to bothered with the storage on this it's no worse than say the new Nexus, considering we will not be getting the larger storage version in the UK. The FCC is not something I would ever use so that's no loss.

Seeing how N9 sports a TI OMAP and MSFT's push for Qualcomm marriage, I don't think it is happening.
As a long time Nokia user, these phones seem pretty much what they should be.
In Nokia-speak, a 700 series phone is mid-range phone - affordable and for the masses. An 800 series phone is a middle tier phone with better design and features.
What we (enthusiasts) are waiting for is the 900 series phone (like an N9) that is their design flagship. That phone is still in the wings, as well as a 500 series entry-level model. Believe me there will be a 900 series phone since the Windows Phones are now their premium smartphone platform, an Nokia will need a successor to the N9 to carry the flag.
So don't look at these as the entire Nokia Windows Mobile line - they are just the first ones out of the gate.

The glossy finish is up to the feedback they receive. I can almost guarantee people will say they prefer the matt finish of the 800.

I'm probably one of the only ones, but this sounds like it would be perfect for me... if only it had a portrait QWERTY (slider I assume) keyboard.
Is it too much to ask for someone other than Dell to make one?
The glossy finish might mean a white version like the n9. They just need to include all of the n9 features but with a bigger screen and better camera.

for me it depends..
I use my quantum keyboard all the time, though with a screen that large I could definitely cope without it.

I have a question about these Nokia Lumia devices. Do the Lumia devices offer a LED charge light or LED notification light? I miss this on my DVP and was wondering if it will be on these devices, havent seen any so im suspecting not.
If its true this has LTE - Verizon I'm coming back!!!
Still doesn't sound like enough differentiation. It might stand out design-wise but it sounds hardly worth the wait. Now, if they brought an N8 class camera and Tango brings better camera options: I'd wait in line. For now, the Samsung Focus S brings the same CPU and 4.3" AMOLED+ which is better than March.
AT&T gets the Titan, TMO gets the Radar.
AT&T gets the Nokia 900, TMO gets the Nokia 710.
It appears that my HD7 will continue to soldier on. It dissappoints me after TMO's relationship with mega-screen Windows phones: HD2>HD7>??? Where's the successor?
I actually went and played with a Radar and it was a nice phone. It is simply not worth giving up the extra screen space.

Perhaps the Nokia Ace will have some NFC features built in. I've been reading that MS have recently clarified that WP7.5 does not have ny NFC capability (regardless of OEMs including the tech in their handsets), but they are working on it for 2012 as requested by Samsung and Nokia.
I'd like to see NFC for features like bump to pair with bluetooth speakers, bump to pair with car kits, and of course for electronic payments.

Hopefully Nothing can offer us something similar where it's free for us to use even if it is a leak, the main thing we would need for ROMs is a complete source release, which they have done with their previous device so they should this time too I would have thought, there's a strong chance there will be ROMs for the 2
I also agree it's pretty much the only company left that may offer modders a phone worthwhile buying, pixel would be my other choice.
Fingers crossed Xmas comes early for us all.

Thats good news! Im soo glad they are developing something like a Flagship Killer with the Snapdragon 8 Series processors. Pixel 8 and Nothing Phone 2 would face a standoff battle with the iPhone 15 being a spectator, I can see that happening cause iPhone is almost never in the game (cause there are always people who go for them in spite of whats offered).
Expect US version will be $800 (12/512)

Is that confirmed?
Nothing Phone (2): Flagship pricing leaks with 512 GB storage option for Phone (1) successor
According to a reliable leaker, Nothing has priced its second-generation smartphone for 55% more than last year's Phone (1). Equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset and sporting a familiar design, the Nothing Phone (2) is rumoured to launch with 256 GB and 512 GB of storage variants.

Fingers crossed.
Moreover, I really wish Netflix and cable TV app will work after bootloader unlocked (and probably L1 maintained).
If so, it will be my next phone (512GB version of course) as soon as T-Mobile B71/N71 supported

I'm a year away from an upgrade Mar 2024.. really sucks but there you go...might wait til July and get the nothing 3, if it's anything like OnePlus then the 3 will be a beast as the OnePlus was.
