Canadian Xperia play android 2.3.4 update...? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So it's been made clear that 2.3.4 for xperia phones is finally hitting Rogers, and our canuck phones, http://mobilesyrup.com/2011/12/12/s...ini-pro-pro-all-upgraded-to-android-os-2-3-4/ I'd like to know what the experiance for others is? I'd updated to the generic version 2.3.4, only to go back and figure i'd stick it out with 2.3.3 until 2.3.4 canada hits.
Do Americans have this problem too, where the carrier actually waits, oh, I don't know.. five months to release a bloody update?
Also has anyone updated to 2.3.4 yet? Is the idea that it slowly creeps from province to province, or what? For refrence, I'm in Alberta.
I guess it's worth asking, but if one of you has updated, is there a chance I could get the file to flash it?
Guh, it's just frustrating. I would love some feed back..

I just uploaded the Rogers branded 2.3.4 in the dev section
Sent from my R800a using XDA App

ohh, it's out the rogers 2.3.4 lol
I don't understand why you want the rogers 2.3.4... only for more bloatware? waiting some more minutes in booting for the rogers logo?

Yes, exactly.
No. I want, if something goes wrong with my phone, to be able to exchange it for another with the 3 year warranty I have on it, and not have to worry about anything, besides.. it's not like I turn my phone off.

Nope. We usually end up waiting much longer. (Verizon)

[Q] HTC newer version than G Nexus?

Is it true?
HTC Sensation and Sensation XE are being updated today to Android 4.0.3
And my G Nexus is 4.0.2
I thought Nexus would be first with updates?
> # doesn't mean greatness.
enjoy what you have..don't act like a kid
the day that the sensation will not receive android Jelly Bean and Key Lime Pie, the sensation's users will cry more than you
Maybe not for you, bur for me it does!
I bought my Nexus because everywhere I read about it was said that Nexus-phones get updates first from Vanilla Android.
And now HTC even ported their Sense over it?
Im starting to regret that I bought my Nexus. My SE Arc maybe wasnt that fast, but was more thinner and took much better pictures!
I dont mean to act like a kid.
Just dissapointed of all bull*¤&% about Nexus.

Several tablets, like the Transformer Prime, have been on 4.0.3 for weeks. You were guaranteed timely updates for the useful life of your phone, which is about 18 months. Not first.

Good play on version #
As more phone makers start to roll out ICS you'll see more and more version #'s, not necessarily equating to any tangible improvements.
This is a silly thread with a silly concern. Go root your phone.

Then sell your Nexus and go back. Nobody is making you keep it. you can root your phone and put 4.0.3 or even a 4.0.4 rom on it. If you dont want to root you phone you can unlock it, temporarily boot CWM and flash the stock 4.0.4 OTA.

I'm sorry you don't like your Nexus, but no one is forcing you to use it. Feel free to sell it and buy any HTC phone if you'd like. Truth is that the Nexus will still be the first to be updated to vanilla Android, because no other phone in existence will have it. You go buy the HTC phone it will have 4.0.3 and that's amazing! But it has Sense, and when it comes to the next update, you'll be *****ing again that its not coming and you'll want your Nexus back.
The fact that you'd consider leaving the Nexus on 4.0.2 for an HTC phone on 4.0.3 because its x.x.1 higher leads me to believe that you don't understand how great having a Nexus is.
I dont understand this impatience. The nexus will get the 4.0.4 update, likely very soon. Google is just finishing everything. They are not sitting around doing nothing. And they are not purposely holding back. They WANT us to have the update. Its just taking time.

As far as complaining you don't have 4.0.3, what improvements in .3 are you waiting for over .2 exactly?

Speaking of the "now generation" when are we getting a new BAMF? Jk man.
LOL.
Last I heard was next week, which will (hopefully) mark the first launch of the Maguro version.
Fine, Ill go rooting then.
But you guys really help me out if I dont succeed!
AFAIK theres a better radio (which is really useless today) in 4.0.4 or 4.0.3
If you really dont want your nexus i'll take it... Mine is in the shop getting wifi fixed. Had to RMA and i'm really missing it. I'm stuck using this brick of a Dell Streak, not having my nexus is really bad. But on the bright side I still have my Gtab running 4.0.3!

ICS April 30th for Verizon Users....

Just saw this. Exciting. Hope its true.
Found this just now. Android Guys has a article saying Verizon R800x Users getting ICS 4/30
Xperia Play- update in testing, OTA scheduled for April 30th
http://www.androidguys.com/2012/04/...m_campaign=Feed:+androidguyscom+(AndroidGuys)

Sorry, must have missed this part...
If you don't have one of the aforementioned Androids, fret not. There are a few others (listed below) that have updates in testing, although it's not specified if the updates are to Ice Cream Sandwich.
HTC Thunderbolt- update in testing, OTA scheduled for May 10th
Droid Bionic- update in testing, OTA scheduled for May 3rd
Xperia Play- update in testing, OTA scheduled for April 30th
Galaxy Tab 10.1- update in testing, OTA scheduled for May 3rd
LG Revolution- update in testing, OTA scheduled for May 16th
With any luck, we'll see some of these updates being rolled out over the next few weeks. I'd be willing to bet that at least one of them gets pulled because of bugs, but we can't all be perfect. More on this as it develops.

Probably not, Timescape for ICS is already complete in the Arc S official update, which also will run on the arc and will probably run on the play.
Maybe Sony has kicked Verizon up the arse this time, or they are releasing both at the same time.
And bare in mind, Sony said they would not be giving out any OTA's.

Well... I had been with Cingular (Now AT&T) for 5 years, then switched to Verizon a year ago and I think there service blows. On AT&T I was getting over 1mbps data plan. Verizon.....250kbps. I know I cannot blame them for that its the mountains I live by.... but I have had so many dropped calls. AT&T none in years.... so next year I will jump ship most likely.... just not very pleased with Verizon. And I work right next to a corporate office... maybe I should go there for my update for my phone!
Thinking about it, its very likely 2.3.4 so that the PSN store works on the Verizon Play. Sony likely told them that they HAD to release it so the store would work, otherwise there would be plenty of unhappy customers, directing their rage likely at Sony....

Emmm, yes. I'm better than before - my hands are fixed (95% of progress in rehabilitation, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome), so soon I will back in development and will make ROM based on official ICS (when it will be). Next I think I won't make much big topics, cause this problem can back, and my doctor said I need to stop using computer forever (I mean I can't using it too much), this is sh*t ;/.
How about you? Things going on ok?
Going well. Wife has hasn't killed me yet, but some day my picture will be on a milk carton for sure.
I'm good. Just working and remodeling my new home. Got my wifes family coming from China in 3 months to visit for 6 months. So I am excited to see them, plus it will be their first time here.

That's from Samsung Poland regarding the international i9300 version.
Pretty sure the international i9300 will get the 4.4.2 update elsewhere in Europe.
And unless Samsung USA backtracks on its commitment to bring Android 4.4.2 to the North American SGS3, I'm confident we'll see it.

The problem that I have is that the official announcement says "select carriers" leaving me to believe that there is a possibility it could never happen with AT&T. Of course since AT&T is so large I think it will go through to avoid a massive swarm of complaints. It really comes down to how quickly they will push the release.

WOW, ANOTHER TOY TO PLAY WITH. OH MY GOD. WHEN DO WE GET IT? WHEN DO WE GET IT? HURRY UP AT&T. I CANNOT WAIT. OH MY GOD! WHEN DO WE GET IT? WHEN DO WE GET IT?
Look, if we ever get this update, can at least some of you hold off for a little bit and see what the update does to some of the other phones first (does it lock the bootloader, does it make battery life worse, what apps might have issues, is there a way to go back in case something goes wrong) and not make the same mistake that so many of us make with these phones by rushing to these toys, oops, updates impatiently the very first day that they come out. I call these updates toys because with the exception of the phones that have major issues, all these updates are around here is just something new to play with.
BUT WHAT IF I WANT TO, SHORTYDOGGG?
Forget it. I see that I won't get through to everybody because we are all different. Carry on everyone.

You can rest assured that if it were available there would be a version of it posted here on xda. When it is it will be on here within moments of the devs getting their hands on it or anyone for that matter.
Have you read the correct ones vause what ive seen says that us carriers wont start pushing anything till almost march
The Galaxy S5 got the lollipop 5.0 update in the USA. Thanks LG, while you're busy releasing the update for users in Nigeria, the enthusiasts in the USA are still stuck on KitKat... mine boggling......

I'd not LG's fault. In the US the carriers test the software, have LG put their own software on the phone and then test done more. They are the cause if the delay, and with T-mobile they at have Wi-Fi calling so probably even more delay to test that.
Good to know, but I was wondering because I was going back to stock, but course leaving it rooted, but then there was an update. Was that the update that we're all waiting for? or is it just a minor update I think I saw something like 247MB don't know if thats correct but I was going to unroot my phone just to get that update, but thats not Lollipop right?
Alrighty then so... Thanks T-mobile....
Sent from my LG-D851
I think that tweet from LG USA was designed to put pressure on the carriers to hasten the release. Unfortunately for LG this may backfire on them. Most people think phone manufactueres are responsible for timely release of updates. US carriers need to add their bloatware and wi-fi calling in T-mobiles case to the new update. LG's part is done. Call your local branches and bug the crap out of them.
What is so great about lollipop? Xposed doesnt work with it among other things. I would not update even if it was available right now.

I would think this means the update is hitting phones on the 10th or 11th. Normally they keep the old update rolling until they hot swap with the new one. I would imagine only hours of downtime for updates if they don't hot swap. Then again some people still haven't received the ota notification yet... Who knows?

And yet there is no ETA for lollipop on the S5 (as for T-mobile variant). Judging the ETA for update for the LG G3 from the update intended for another device from another manufacturer is very immature.
Don't get me wrong, I would want 5.0 on my G3 asap, but I just want to point our that that date is irrelevant, just as the post from AP I linked suggested.

OneUI of SM-G960U1 expected date?

I just heard from Samsung Care the new "expected date" is March for the official update. WTF, I have a carrier unlocked (SM-G960U1) phone, but have to wait until every device in the world is updated, including the US minor carriers, before mine. This is the firmware all the US carriers are adding their bloat, too. It already exists. Can anyone explain this insanity?

I agree, but we are still going to get the version they gave to the carriers a month ago. So they could have made that 12% happy. Instead they choose to make that 12% annoyed. But hey, we keep buying so it must not annoy us too much.

More like 90. Blissfully nonchalant. Otherwise selling phones with locked bootloder would have caused uprest and carrier preferences would have been swashed off by sung quickly
I THINK the idea is that unlocked phones must work on all carriers so the update for unlocked phones can't be done until all the carriers have released their update.
I got the update today. So far, so good. Nothing to write home about good or bad.
All 7 gotta do is plug it in to your computer and run SmartSwitch and it will update it to Pie
