Is it true?
HTC Sensation and Sensation XE are being updated today to Android 4.0.3
And my G Nexus is 4.0.2
I thought Nexus would be first with updates?
> # doesn't mean greatness.
enjoy what you have..don't act like a kid
the day that the sensation will not receive android Jelly Bean and Key Lime Pie, the sensation's users will cry more than you
Maybe not for you, bur for me it does!
I bought my Nexus because everywhere I read about it was said that Nexus-phones get updates first from Vanilla Android.
And now HTC even ported their Sense over it?
Im starting to regret that I bought my Nexus. My SE Arc maybe wasnt that fast, but was more thinner and took much better pictures!
I dont mean to act like a kid.
Just dissapointed of all bull*¤&% about Nexus.

Several tablets, like the Transformer Prime, have been on 4.0.3 for weeks. You were guaranteed timely updates for the useful life of your phone, which is about 18 months. Not first.

Good play on version #
As more phone makers start to roll out ICS you'll see more and more version #'s, not necessarily equating to any tangible improvements.
This is a silly thread with a silly concern. Go root your phone.

Then sell your Nexus and go back. Nobody is making you keep it. you can root your phone and put 4.0.3 or even a 4.0.4 rom on it. If you dont want to root you phone you can unlock it, temporarily boot CWM and flash the stock 4.0.4 OTA.

I'm sorry you don't like your Nexus, but no one is forcing you to use it. Feel free to sell it and buy any HTC phone if you'd like. Truth is that the Nexus will still be the first to be updated to vanilla Android, because no other phone in existence will have it. You go buy the HTC phone it will have 4.0.3 and that's amazing! But it has Sense, and when it comes to the next update, you'll be *****ing again that its not coming and you'll want your Nexus back.
The fact that you'd consider leaving the Nexus on 4.0.2 for an HTC phone on 4.0.3 because its x.x.1 higher leads me to believe that you don't understand how great having a Nexus is.
I dont understand this impatience. The nexus will get the 4.0.4 update, likely very soon. Google is just finishing everything. They are not sitting around doing nothing. And they are not purposely holding back. They WANT us to have the update. Its just taking time.

Speaking of the "now generation" when are we getting a new BAMF? Jk man.
LOL.
Last I heard was next week, which will (hopefully) mark the first launch of the Maguro version.
Fine, Ill go rooting then.
But you guys really help me out if I dont succeed!
AFAIK theres a better radio (which is really useless today) in 4.0.4 or 4.0.3
If you really dont want your nexus i'll take it... Mine is in the shop getting wifi fixed. Had to RMA and i'm really missing it. I'm stuck using this brick of a Dell Streak, not having my nexus is really bad. But on the bright side I still have my Gtab running 4.0.3!

Don't take it so hard, you will still get the OTA first don't worry .
For the Samsung S2 is not clear that it will get anymore updates after the S3 pops out in half a year or so...

Lol okay lets just chill out for a second. Samsung promising the S2 to get ICS in the "first quarter" doesn't mean ****.
If you're that goddamn ancy you should flash to yakju and you'd be on 4.0.2 right now. Otherwise, just chill your **** and you'll get 4.0.2.
And the thing is, you'll get 4.0.3, and 4.0.4 or 4.1 etc. The S2 will get 4.0.2 and then be done. And it'll look like garbage and have TouchWiz on it just like it has now on 2.3.

And you would still have an inferior version of android. How many ICS roms do those phones have..? Oh wait, none. The update to 4.0.2 isn't that large and if you really cared so much you would spend the ten minutes it takes to learn how to flash a rom onto your phone instead of complaining about it. Also, if you want a touchwiz filled ICS, by all means get the sgsII.

I chose the galaxy nexus. And I'm very very very excited. At the end of the day you just have to be happy with your purchase. When the galaxy nexus first came out, I was like wow I want this phone so bad but I couldn't justify buying it since I had a galaxy s 2. Then I wanted a galaxy note but deep inside I really wanted a nexus but went for the note. Loved it a lot! Then sold it to get the One X buy deep in side again the nexus man I'm telling you I had to have it and I was one click away to buy the one x but then I went with my gut feeling and bought the nexus. I think I'm destined to have this phone after all this time. I'm so excited, I could care less about specs right now. I'm planning on getting the Galaxy s 3 when it comes out also and I'll keep both but I think the nexus is a must have. Very excited to say the least. WINNING!!!!!!!!!!! Splash!

Well it is newer, and it is better. I would rather have the One X, as long as it's unlockable/rootable and I could put stock ICS on it. Then it would be a very awesome phone. As we've seen from the Galaxy S (and even the Galaxy Nexus actually), having a Nexus phone doesn't even mean you get updates first and/or in a timely fashion anymore.

Having to jump through loops to unlock/root it and not having a pure stock ICS ROM available for download is a pretty big point not making it better in my book.
Sure it looks nice, build quality seems very good, too. Quadcore is probably not yet the wisest choice for a smartphone, as it is not really necessary and eats a LOT of battery.
Just because we had to wait a few months for the update this time also doesn't mean it will be always like this in the future.
First gen dual cores blew.
First gen anything has issues. Time will tell with quads, but it will not even remotely shock me if issues show up.

And then the devs struggle to figure out how to get AOSP to work on the phone while they wait for manufacturer's source: the months of waiting for AOSP to be (fully) functional on a non-Nexus device are enough to turn me off "upgrading" no matter how good a phone looks. The fluke/perfect storm of getting AOSP to run so easily on the SGS likely will never happen again.

Or maybe it is a unsatisfied owner feeling like venting/discussing the very current (and yes well covered) subject with other owners in a DISCUSSION FORUM.
Sorry but in my opinion... someone that jumps right into someone else's conversation (it is obviously not a conversation for you, you make it clear you disrespect the comment and submission) and yells "troll" is him/herself the troll.
Grandma didn't say it exactly like this but it went like this...
"if you don't have anything good to say... then STFU"
Something like that.
By the way OP... I hear ya, so do a lot of others. It pisses me off every time I see a press release mentioning some new ICS unit and here we are... still waiting. I rooted and am using a 4.0.4 that makes it "usable" but it still has crappy phone/data coverage/reception and Verizon has been promising that "patch" since early in January well before the launch day buyer's return deadline. We shouldn't have to root and take chances like that... lucky for me I'm an IT engineer and am comfortable with it but I would have been much happier with a 'bone stock" unit that works right.
There are a lot of threads on this... but then again there are always a lot of threads on everything so... whatever.
Verizon is dropping the ball big time... my only hope is that the update they come out with will be better that the leaked 4.0.4 and that is what is taking so long... and at this point in time is still not an excuse.

Luckily you're in the right place if you are tired of waiting for the OTA.
See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1455
Unfortunately there's not much we can do for the official OTA though, for that you'll need to contact Google or Verizon.
Why am I waiting on VZW for 4.0.4? I understood (or misunderstood) the Nexus line to get their updates directly from Google. This played a significant role in my decision to go with the Galaxy Nexus. So, what changed? I'm sure the Nexus One got updates direct from Google...didn't it? Also, I noticed a couple VZW branded uninstallable apps preloaded on it...why is there ANYTHING non-Google preloaded if it's "Pure Google?"
Man, I must have misunderstood something.

There wasn't a CDMA Nexus One, so yes it got its updates from Google.
This is actually nothing new, nothing has changed. Its been the exact same with the NS4G on Sprint. Verizon has closed-source radio code that they have to add themselves and test before sending it out. THAT is why you're waiting for Verizon.
As for the apps, just disable them and stop crying. Its the same deal, if a phone is gonna be on Verizon it's gonna have those apps.
If it bothers you that bad, buy a GSM model.
This has been argued/explained at length in many threads, blogs, podcasts and posts.
CDMA Nexii are slightly different. They get updates sent from Google to the carriers(ie Sprint and Verizon). GSM Nexii on the other hand, get updates directly from Google. It was known for a while now that this was the case, which means you didn't do your research.

Anyway, it's clear that VZW is incapable of responsibly having a Nexus phone in their lineup. I hope they don't get one ever again unless Google manages to get some leverage on them like Apple does.

Apple doesn't have any special leverages over carriers for OS updates when compared to the Nexus. They need Verizon's proprietary code and testing just as much. They need the same with AT&T and Sprint.
We just don't get any leaks on iOS updates, and Apple only releases an iOS update when its ready for everyone. They don't release iOS earlier for their unlocked models because they want to release it for everyone at once. It'd be the exact same deal if Google held the update for everyone and didn't push it till Verizon was done.
And you're right, he shouldn't have to root his phone. If he wants to wait he can wait and he'll get the OTA when its pushed to everyone on the Verizon model. Rooting isn't the only way to get the OTA. It does come w/o rooting if you wait.

Like mentioned earlier VZW still customizes android with radios and bloatware. So despite the newest Google android releases for GSM deices VZW still tinkers with the latest version goes through a testing phase then pushes it to end users eventually. The beauty of a Nexus phone is user freedom to customize and use roms with ease. Quit waiting on Big Red, take your phone back flash the latest software yourself.

VZW doesn't customize anything. The bloatware is just like 2-3 apps that are Verizon apps.
Radios are handled by Samsung.
Verizon Galaxy Nexus isn't a true 'nexus' device. People will debate with me but honestly it isn't,
1) No images flashed to 4.0.4 (they are archived on Google's website to 4.0.2 now but won't be updated).
2) Carrier has to approve update.
If you want the true Nexus feeling, get the GSM model of the phone.
If you don't want to root / flash your phone, then don't complain about not getting 4.0.4. GSM users have to wait for the OTA as well unless they root and manually flash. You can manually flash 4.0.4 OTA on VZW as well.
But GSM will get it first because they dont have to be approved.

what you stated here and was really my trying point is that veriosn needs to approve the software including the 2 to 3 apps and radios before the push to users ... i don't think anyone can deny that verison's version isn't true nexus
the only real nexus's are the Yakju/Takju builds ... which any gsm version could be converted to

They are updating what binaries they can provide, so don't be so sure they won't be updating images. Your definition of a true Nexus and mine differ.
VZW Galaxy Nexus still gets updates directly from Google. It just has to be put under review/testing from Verizon before it gets pushed.
Plus, who actually depends on the OTA? You're on XDA after all.

The radios are handled by Qualcomm/Verizon. It's a "true" nexus device. It meets all the criteria. Just because it gets a .0.1 revision update a week later (or whatever it was) doesn't mean ****. Seriously? Gonna cry of a couple small bug fixes? As to the CDMA binaries not being available, talk to Qualcomm, they made most of the binaries/radios.
You may not have to wait much longer. Vzw started to push 4.0.4 (Imm76K) last week.
It's in the Vzw Dev forum if you don't want to wait and don't mind unlocking and rooting
You guys are really proud of rooting your phone. Sounds like you need something bigger in your life. I ask a few questions and suddenly I'm lazy & crying. Really, if this is big enough to get upset over, then you need to lay off the internet a little. Go find something worth getting upset over.
No one is upset. In the time it took creating this thread and replying to posts, you could have rooted and been on 4.0.4. I think that's the point everyone's trying to convey.

No need to meet harshness with harshness.
Its obvious you're upset about this whole thing or you wouldn't have created a thread about it. You need to just decide what's important to you, read up on it, and if you find you don't want to "wait for Verizon" then I'll tell you again to buy a GSM model.

Not really helping... I think what he's trying to get people to understand is that he shouldn't have to root to get the OTA. And all people on XDA do is say "shut up noob, just root your ph0n3".
OP, whether you like it or not this thread is going to turn into a nasty, nasty flame war in a couple pages. Sorry.

Its true.
They should really stress the fact that XDA is a development site and not Verizon support forums.
Seriously though, you came on XDA and posted this thread. You could've rooted, unlocked, and flashed 4.0.4 by now.

Apple most definitely has leverage over carriers. If they didn't, you'd see bloatware on subsidized iPhones & updates being pushed at different times. Leaks don't matter because Apple makes their beta iOS builds readily available to those enrolled in the iOS development program.
A lot of fandroids don't want to admit that there ARE benefits to being a control freak, especially when you're one of the richest and most famous companies in the entire world. Apple doesn't order VZW around, but you can be damn sure that VZW doesn't order Apple around either. VZW telling Apple what changes they want made to the OS? LOL, not going to happen.
So I ordered a galaxy nexus the first day of I/O after the price drop and the announcement they would ship with Jellybean. I got mine an hour ago and surprise it has 4.0.4. with no update available. WTF. So I try multiple times to call google support and it hangs up on me every time. Just thought I would let you guys know, it may not actually come with JB. I'm pissed off right now.
From what I've seen and read, they announced it to be the first phone to have jellybean. I didn't see any indication that it would ship with 4.1 Only the freebie phones were expected to have JB preinstalled
Just flash the new build or wait a few days for the OTA to come in.

They never said it would ship with JB. The Nexus 7 ships with JB and the participants to the conference received units that would update to a "preview" build of JB. Again, they never said the Galaxy Nexus was going to ship with JB at this time. They also clearly stated that they would be updated OTA in mid-July.
its not supposed to come with Jellybean officially until mid july. where did Google say it will be shipped with JB?
Maybe I dreamed I heard that but they sure do make it look like it does if you look at the product page.

Yeah, the Jelly Bean renders don't help but it does say -
Ships with Android 4.0
Soon upgraded to Android 4.1, Jelly Bean
Under "OS" in the specifications.
keep calm and flash the jelly bean ROM
Sorry for wasting this space. Lol. I think Im just upset cuz I sold my gs3. Love this phone though

Mine just came as well
I knew JB wouldn't be on it as others said its right there on the order page.
Also like others said just go flash it!
That's the first thing I'm going to do when I get my order next week (for a friend... he's behind the times!). Unlock and flash Jelly Bean for him.

Its a developer version and not the final product. I would advise doing that unless you want to hold his hand on maintaining his device when it comes to flashing.
I rather keep another person's phone stock.

Thanks but we're both experienced with the end-to-end process and have done it many times. I was just saying that as a "surprise" for him I would have it done already since I know that's the first thing he would do anyway.
But yes... in general I would agree. I wouldn't do this for a regular user who doesn't care about unlock/root/etc.

And you want to waste Google's phone support time with this too? WOW.
JUST.
FREAKING.
WOW.
I was going to get the S3 for my wife, but considering the lower price of GN (by $200) and minor differences in features and functions that would not mean much to my wife, I have decided to get this phone instead. The prospect of putting the new Jelly Bean OS really did tip the balance for my decision, though. I like that buttery smooth operation of Jelly Bean. I'll probably put the custom ROM on hers before giving it to her. I don't think providing customer service for her would be a problem for me~
My advice, patiance. Let's just hope they keep providing the URL's. So we can download and manually flash the rom.

You could have gotten a non nexus phone and gotten jellybean right about when key lime pie comes out... plus Google actually lives up to their ota estimates. Enjoy your nexus and be patient, you'll still have it long before any non nexus phone.

I love that we are getting JB now just after a couple months the rest of the world started getting ICS.
In 2-3 weeks there will be released versions of JB. It seems like a pretty short wait for the official version. If you are running stock, I don't think it is worth putting the hacked version on your phone unless you know what you are doing.
