[Q] Does any one had experience with Securranty - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hello,
I just got my new Epic 4g touch from Wirefly. I did not purchase insurance coverage with them. Now I found company called Securranty. They supposedly provide warranty, accidental damage, and lost/theft. However not too many RELIABLE reviews.
Has anyone had experience with this insurance? Thank you in advance.

Sprint TEP is much more expensive(~$200 for 2yrs). Worth Ave group does not provide extended warranty. Just Accidental/lost/theft.
Any opinions about Securranty?
Thank you.

Never heard of Securranty. And Worth Ave group does offer warranty. Depends on the state you live in i believe. They have insurance and warranties.

Never buy a warranty from them!
I filed my claim 10 days ago already, but it's still no result! Nobody call or email me. I was trying to call them, but I always get to voicemail. The worst service ever!

Trading for HTC Thunderbolt.

Ahem, sooo I'm am strongly considering trading this phone for a thunderbolt (for the root) and I am just scared that if something is wrong with it, Verizon wouldn't give me a replacement. Anyone know whether this is true or not?
I just don't want to be stuck with a defective phone.

Wait, is your phone defective or are you just wanting root? If its defective (as in something is broken) it would depend on your warranty. From my experience, verizon only replaces a phone with the same one or of equal.
Where are you planning on getting the thunderbolt? If through Verizon or a certified reseller, then you have nothing to worry about. If you buy off cl or eBay, then it can go either way, but most likely they won't help.

I noticed you posted in another thread asking to borrow an XTC Clip. You should search on Craigslist for people that do business unlocking phones, a lot of them have them in their arsenal of tools.

Thank you so much for suggesting this! Immediately went to craigslist, and found this guy in my area:

Sending him an email now, and hoping to have S-OFF by the end of the weekend. If you're looking for a clip and haven't tried this, do it. This guy charges 20, which is what I would expect to throw in for use of a clip anyway.

I did this and found a place. I asked them if they used an xtc clip to unlock the bootloader. The lady swore up and down that you actually don't want to do that and that their software will work just fine and that if I unlocked my bootloader I would loose my recovery. So I'm guessing you don't have the warranty anymore?
Would the phone still be covered under manufacturer warranty? Like if the phone itself is defective, can I still get a CLNR?

I am 99% sure that if you trade you phone for another phone on craigslist, you will not have any warranty on the new craigslist phone. Warranty will only cover the original owner. I can't possibly see Verizon condoning people swapping their phones with one another on craigslist. The whole thing just seems real sketchy to me.
From Verizon's website:
"IX. OTHER CONDITIONS:
A. This Warranty or Service Contract is extended to the original subscriber buyer only and may not be assigned or transferred to subsequent subscriber buyers"
This would indicate to me, that if I traded or sold my phone to you, even though I have an extended warranty on it, the warranty eligibility would NOT be transferred to you. I would highly recommend NOT doing this.

So this mean no Asurion or manufacturer warranty? I sure when Verizon does CLNRs they're from manufacturer and not Asurion.

I had many dealing with tmobile and handset swaps was it a warranty exchange or did you go through the asurion insurance??
I'm not the OP. But I've done exchanges through both T-Mobile and filed an Asurion claim before, and it's usually a refurb unless they are out of refurbs or the device is so new they don't have any refurbs yet.
But honestly the refurbs are just as good (if not better) than a new handset 90% of the time

I haven't had to deal witb refurbs much (thankfully) but in my experience they were never better. Usually they had just reloaded everything to bone stock and cleaned it up is what it seemed like.
Or they screwed up something else while fixing the first problem. Refurbs imo are 2nd rate. Kinda like a Certified Used Car. Its still used!
I am glad that some people had good experiences with them! Just wasnt the way it turned out for me is all.

Heads up: Sprint non-TEP S&R fee increase

Just wanted to let you guys know ahead of time, it was communicated to us yesterday via the Playbook that the fee for a Service & Repair fix/replacement for people that do NOT have TEP or ESRP is increasing from $35 to $50. This will go into effect 1/11.
It's still a good deal, considering things like OEM screens and refurbs cost well over that amount, but wanted to forewarn you guys anyway. So for you non-TEP people, if you plan on bricking your phone, do it and get in to the store by the 10th Or if you're in need of a legit repair obviously lol.
As always, you'll still have the option to add TEP the day of a paid repair/replacement.
EDIT: also, this change in policy does NOT qualify you to get out of contract early, as it is considered a voluntary service. This was communicated explicitly.
Your friendly neighborhood technician.

such a rip off.. i personally have tep and a replacement battery they are saying is 50$. how much is it without tep? lol. if your going to brick your phone id use the replacement money and buy one off the internet instead of going to sprint to have it repaired.. thats my opinion lol

I've had 5 replaced without TEP for $35 each. Yep, I'm good at bricking them. Anyway, let's say I only bricked 1, then $35 at the time or even $50 after the 11th is a lot cheaper than buying one anywhere else. Unless you have a supplier willing to sell refurbs with a warranty for that cheap. Which I doubt.
Thanks for the heads up squshy!

Grumblings in the company are that this will likely be changed soon, as it is generally implied the battery is covered under TEP, not a 1 year warranty. Obviously I would agree with you, I find it asinine that they currently aren't.

Just an fyi, you can get never opened oem batteries on Amazon for 10 dollars. idk, I just know that I was with them from April 2010 to September 2011. During this period, I had my Motorola Droid replaced approximately 8 times (poor build quality on that phone - dust under the screen and flaky headphone jack). It wasn't me causing the problems because my epic touch has held up just fine for me. They eventually replaced my droid with a Droid Incredible 2 at no charge. I never had TEP and never paid a penny for warranty service. It was always a hassle free replacement. Maybe it's changed since then, idk.
I only switched to Sprint after Verizon started throttling the "unlimited" data they sold me. I was able to switch without an etf after some complaining and threatening a small claims lawsuit.

Insurance Claim on Tmo GS3

I'm currently having some problems with my charger staying plugged to my phone. It's very loose for some reason and constantly unplugs overnight even with the slightest touch.
My screen has been cracked for quite some time now (prior to this issue) but I was wondering if this would restrict me from filing an insurance claim on my phone. Would they hassle me for a broken screen?
Thanks,
basically got 2 options at this point, pay the fee , send your phone back, wait for replacement,
or claim it lost, pay the deductible, keep your phone an let them send another one to you, up to you, not promoting this way,but you do have these two options
for option #1, what exactly is the fee?
I'm considering the option of saying that the phone is just suddenly slightly defective (the charger port) in order to get a new refurb one. I've done this multiple times before and got a replacement for free but never with a broken screen.

Filing a claim and getting a refurb will cost you $130. I wouldn't recommend the 2nd option mentioned above, but I'm not going to tell you what or what not to do.
Good luck!

You can't claim warranty exchange with Tmobile with a broken screen. They will charge you restocking fee $400+. Its better to call insurance which is $150 I believe.

I agree. This has been my experience. Pay the deductible and keep both phones.
Don't say it's lost and keep both phones, that is insurance fraud.
File an insurance claim on the Asurion website for the honest reason. The fee is $130. They will send you a new phone with free next day shipping, THEN you send your phone back with the provided packaging and prepaid label.

Appreciate all the replies and insight! It wasn't my intention to file it as "lost" and keep the phone. Just wanted to see if I would still get the same warranty benefits for my loose charger despite the screen being cracked from a previous incident.

But that doesn't cost the company money and cause rates to go up
Returning to stock, the companies are getting the phones back to refurbish and sell again. Lying and saying you lost your $500 phone to get another $500 phone is no where near the same thing.
Not to mention the fact that rooting only voids the manufacturer warranty, not your insurance.

Huh how It doesn't cost the company money, shipping cost that they pay.. Hard bricking devices or soft bricks that some don't even bother to fix and send it in.technically a phone is not a phone when you can't call or do what a phone is for when the IMEI is blocked. Also rooting may bring hardware issues etcc so if the phone is malfunctioning people are going to send it in. that's also insurance fraud because you caused the phone to not work and you want to get a new one or refurbished. I get your point though but I still think rates will go up either way, just like gas does when the economy us bad .

With insurance it doesn't matter if you hacked it and fried the processor. That's what you pay for insurance for. Using it to get a second phone is not what it's for. I see where your point could be valid for a warranty exchange though.

My understanding is you pay your deductible after submitting an "affidavit" about what happened, and they ship you a replacement phone the next day, so it's not a one for one swap, so your little brother can use it as an expensive mp3 player. . Just curious, did you try putting the phone in a bag of rice for a few days before giving it up for good? Might save you 100 bucks. Just sayin' Good luck!

What? Asurion takes any phone back no matter what's the damage when they give you a new one. They even give you an envelope when reported lost or stolen just in case the phone ever gets back in your possession so you can return..

No problem. It's even noted on the site when filing a claim. I go through phones like crazy and I read everything. It goes something along the lines like any found devices claimed through Asurion are the property of Asurion and must be returned yada yada.. Something like that, it's been a while I lost or had a phone stolen lol
Ps: I had two claims this year. I would gladly screencap the email they sent me thanking me for returning my liquor damaged EVO LTE that was completely fried. So if they would take a liquor damaged one with a fried motherboard why not a water damaged one which still powers on?

So my mom epic 4g touch is watered damaged and I was told to call ausurion and I would have to pay a 100 deductible would I have to give them the s2? And if I do can I just report the phone stolen and if I do is it the same 100 deductible and I'm asking because my little brother can use it as a music player til it breaks completely. Idk if this is OK to ask here so mods sorry ahead of time. Any help with this would be appreciated.

A big part of me thinks Asurion is complete rip off. I used them once and paid the $100 deductible which pi$$ed me off because I had been paying them $9 a month over the past 4 years- enough to cover the cost of a new premium smartphone and the $100 deductible. And once I got my replacement phone (refurbished, not new) the first month or so were covered by the Sprint warranty yet, I still got charged me $9 for the "Asurion".
They want you to believe the replacement phone they are sending you cost them the same retail price you'd have bought it for from Samsung but that's bull****. I am sure they get them for buy them from sprint for whatever sprint pays for recycled phones., probably $50 then they mark it up 100% and viola $100 deductible. And if you tell Asurion you want a new phone instead of a refurbished phone they'll lie to you and tell you Samsung doesn't make the D710 anymore. But one visit to the Samsung website suggests otherwise.
In short I wouldn't think twice about getting over on Asurion.
And no it's NOT Insurance fraud. Insurance fraud is a crime when committed against a real insurance company which is regulated by the state.
Ask these people if they think you should stick it to Asurion.
Take the phone apart and hit the board lightly with rubbing alcohol and a soft tooth brush.
Before you do tho take a few pics of the board and post them and ill let ya know the extent of the damage

I just went ahead and reported the phone water damaged and I'm just going to pay the 100 deductible I did get a call from assurion saying they do limited these forums and advises against fraud and they do monitor these forums.
