So my buddy wants a smartphone finally so I tell him about the Nexus S and WP7 (focus) in this case since he's on ATT.
He really liked the way the Nexus S felt but I convinced him to go give the focus a try. He is very much on the fence since he likes the moving backgrounds of Android but also liked the integration of my WP7 device.
Anyway, we go to the ATT store and we're getting the pros and cons of the various phones they have. When they get to the focus, the store rep talks about how it's one of their best selling phones even though it doesn't have a SAmoled screen. I chime in with a "Yes it does" and the rep looks kinda irritated.
Then he's talking about how it doesn't have 4G like the iPhone and I'm like "The Iphone doesn't have 4G". Then the other rep starts screaming "Android is the future. it has 100k apps compared to WP7".
I say "Way to compare 3 months to 3 years buddy" He starts talking about how Android is killing everything at which point we both walk out kinda irritated by the moron.
He didn't even realize I wasn't even anti-Android. I just hate fanatical fans.
Anyone else experience crap like this?
Looks like WP7 is not going to get 4G, only Android at this stage.
Wow ;D That man is really stupid I hate when there are people who work in mobile sectors and don't know a **** about everything else, than their beloved smart phones This way, it was Android and iOS Android has lots, lots, lots of **** apps though. Well, I would argue till closing hours to those *****es ;D

They are both practically the same phone with the exception of some really minor difference.
Maybe the rep is kind of stupid, anyone that has seen a SuperAMOLED screen before in their life can tell the Focus has SuperAMOLED.
To be honest, the last time I went to a store to check out a phone was at an Apple store (actually I was there to fix my iPod Touch). And before that was at the Microsoft store (I ended up looking at the Alienware m17x). Although back in the June the people at the T-Mobile store were pretty unbiased in terms of OS (okay, well T-Mobile had a bad selection).
id b pissed too!

Des Plaines, IL. Not telling exactly where in case there are crazies on this forum that will actually go start sh1t.
Man, that's just silly. Unfortunately, it also seems to be somewhat common.
The sales reps I've spoken to here were equally as ignorant, but they weren't fanboys or derogatory - they just didn't really care much. They were friendly, though, and were quite willing to talk about what they did know and admit when what they were saying was personal opinion. Maybe that's just more of the prevailing attitude in the south, though.
AT&T instore reps for the most part are clueless!! I was calling on 11.5.10 asking about WP7 phones and they didnt have a clue what I was talking about. That's 3 days before launch. They tell you what ever is going to put $$ in their pockets. They think beause AT&T gave them a spec sheet that GOD must have wrote it. When I bought my Focus on Day 1 I would have bet everything I own that I knew more about WP7 devices and the OS then every employee in the store combined. Which doesnt say much since it was my first smart phone and I don't code or anything special. I just read, read a lot, and use good judgement to decipher truth from fiction.

saying that one dude didn't know what he was talking about doesn't suggest anything about WP7, Android or anything, it just means you had the bad luck of talking with an idiot.

It seems like a pointless story unless you're implying that other personnel have some kind of vendetta against WP7 or something.

Then you missed the point about how people who are supposed to be able to represent the OS to make commission can't even do that and when push comes to shove, spew incoherence instead.
It happens in T-Mobile stores and ATT stores. It's bound to happen in the Sprint and Verizon stores when they get their CDMA phones too.
People love to point to sales figures yet if the points of sale offer resistance, how the hell will the OS do well?
I'm sorry I needed to spell it out for you
that was my point.
you can't just say "because one d-bag didn't know anything then that means it's a problem in so many other stores" because I can point out instances where some tmobile rep didn't know the first thing about Android trying to sell a freaking blackberry or some other garbage.
It doesn't mean anything, just one idiot in one store. Go into another store and see how many reps are trying to pimp WP7.
I just find this to be a funny story. I experience this every time I go into a t-mobile store for a new phone. They try to tell me why I should get this or why I should get this. I always tell no that's alright I just show me the phone I want so i can demo it just to make sure I want the phone
Store to Store
It depends on the store and people in it, it varies from store to store. I bought my Focus at a store in NW NJ where the manager was very knowledgeable and so was the assistant manager. The Assistant manager just came back from WP7 training and had some great advice that he shared. I wasn't pressured, they helped me decide between the 3 devices and put up with me returning to the store three times while I was researching my choice. This was an ATT store.

“Many of you are making critical comments here which are certainly fair. First, I was wrong when I said “most people have received the February update.” There are many of you who have yet to receive it, and I don’t blame you for speaking up and pointing out my mistake. Second, I referred to our updates as “complete” because I was thinking of the internal process where we pass completed software to another group who delivers them – but of course no update is complete until you all have it. Plus, at the time I did the interview we had started the NoDo (“march update”) delivery process and I knew “it was going well” from our perspective: people were officially getting it, the success rate of its deployment on real-world phones was looking good, and we were happy that the process had STARTED well. Still—these are NOT the same as all of you getting it and I’m sorry that I came across as insensitive to that fact.
I am a very, very big advocate for all our end-users and developers, and it bothers me a lot if I sounded out of touch. I wasn’t as prepared for this interview as I should have been—I walked into the studio with an informal state of mind, thinking about MIX and what we WILL be talking about, and I didn’t have the right up-to-date information to give a good explanation on updates which I know to be a very high-interest topic right now.
I have read all of the comments here (and many of them on the other blogs) and so has pretty much everyone in our management team. We know it’s been frustrating to wait for features/fixes and (probably worse) to hear little from us on specific dates. We are sorry the process has been rocky. The “where’s my phone update” table is our first step to try to remedy this in the face of technical problems that have made our first wave of updates take longer than we expected. We know the table would benefit greatly from more detail, and we are hoping to add more to it by working with the Operators who own the “testing” phase to get more clarity. If your phone is shown in “scheduling”, it’ll be worth checking the table next week.
In the spirit of “MIX as a conversation” – I will make sure that when I show up in Vegas that I’m well prepared to give an update in person and to try to answer your questions as best I can. You folks are obviously a very important audience for us and it’s right for you to expect us to communicate and execute better. I know at this point it’s our actions that matter… The main thing we are trying to do is to get the updates out to everyone in a way that is reliable and works, and then make our process better and more transparent in the future.”

But it would be better to hear that the update is going right, and we gonna receive it in the next few days.

I cannot accept it. My HD7 is non-brand and doesn't receive the NoDo update til now.
I don't rally care about excuses, and I am still pissed, and I have still not got the NoDo. However, I give MS some credit, since at least they show their customers they care by making statements like this, and admit everything is not always sunshine and cloudless skies. Compared to Crapple (Apple), who always denies- or don't say a word to their "customers" that they actually do **** up sometimes.
And that Joe Belfiore I really like, he seems to be the perfect guy as Director of Windows Phone 7. And he's funny to.

Whatever Crapple says they deliver which is exactly why they are kicking everyone's ass whether you hate to admit it or are totally in denial. You give MS credit because they finally admitted after being cornered by WP7 users and had no way out BUT to admit it. It's like saying well let the bank robber go free because he at least admitted his crime. So you like Belfiore because he is funny and can entertain you? WOW!! Maybe MS should hire Jerry Seinfeld or (choose your favorite comedian) to be the Director of WP7. It's become a joke anyway so might as well hire comedians!
I respect Joe Belfiore for admitting his/Microsoft's mistake. But as that as for Eric Hautala, he is a complete joke.
Look at all the complains ppl have made over at Windows Phone Blog, hundreds after hundreds and he doesn't even stands up to say a single word.

Well yes, Apple deliver updates flawlessly. However, they totally deny any design flaws of their hardware in their products - witch cannot be fixed with software. The iPhone 3G/S, cracks everywhere on the plastic backside and it got tons of dust under the screen. Also, the Macbook cracks. The Iphone 4 antenna design flaw - very well known but Apple denies there is anything wrong. Their response is simply "don't hold it that way" and a short while after, they kick the responsible person for the antenna design out of the company, lol. I guess the guys at Apple is the real comedians.

People seem to forget that Apple had growing pains with iOS as well and had major issues when they first started to push out version 3. When it all happened they just shrugged and kept quiet. At least MS acknowledges it, this is a step int eh right direction. Now they just need to move fast and fix it all or quit telling people when something is coming out.

Yeah, even Apple make mistakes. And they don't admit. There is a lot of examples of that. Still, sooner or later, they fix it. And most of the time, sooner. And when they say that they have an update, well, I envy that, everyone is able to download and update their iPhones when they want, not when carrier want, or when it is available for you.
And yes, I didn't forget that Apple just handle one phone. With just one single phone they choose the way of the whole smartphone market. And they are good at that.
Let's not forget that they learn with their mistakes. And it is really nice.
Apple was able to release iOS update before schedule and a patch shortly after all through the same carrier that Microsoft has problem to push through, AT&T.
In my book, Microsoft dropped the ball big time. And they still have no clue how to fix this. Sorry to say, at this time Microsoft lost all the credibility to me for their ability to successfully push the WP7 platform forward. Yes, WP7 will still survive - in the form of millions of cheap, low end, low resolution Nokia phones that most of us simply don't care about.
I'd love to see MS show me otherwise. But I doubt it. Big corporations don't turn around quickly unless they have a strong leader. Steve B is simply a corporate bean counter, not a leader.

Apple supports their products, so I can give a flying crap what they say. I don't care what a company says, I care what they actually do.

WP7 has poor reception issues, which is worse than Antennagate because for an iPhone all you needed was a bumper or a case. You can't fix the poor reception in WP7 devices so easily.
I routinely get 3 bars in an HSPA+ market where my Vibrant has 5 bars and a 3.3+ mbps download speed. Call quality is noticeably worse (not even comparable, TBQH) and download speeds are much slower. I know one other person with an HD7 and he said "the phone is okay, but the call quality is ****."
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...ng-focus/5b7bc221-2982-4813-95f1-a8c88bfd2e86
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...software/cf6cb222-7fe7-4c0c-92c0-357bf4cc44d1
Also, the HD7 exibits the same issue as the iPhone 4, except it has poorer reception/signal quality overall:
http://www.gsmdome.com/htc/htc-hd7-antenna-problems-explained-by-companys-spokesman_20065
Focus, Omnia 7, HD7 (I experience the bad signal quality personally). I'm willing to bet the issue is Microsoft's coding, and not the hardware. WP7 makes a worse phone than the iPhone, and a worse Smartphone than pretty much anything barring some feature phones.
Dunno where the Apple hate is coming form, but clearly some people only count the negatives of the platforms they don't like. Microsoft's handling of WP7 is making Apple look like a champ.

Im so impressed with the SGII compared to other devises it just continues to amaze http://pocketnow.com/smartphone-news/comparison-iphone-4s-vs-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-video
Wow, I have to admit, I'm impressed
I have just gone from the HTC Sensation to Samsung GS2 and overall the samsung is better especially now its overclocked to 1504 but the sensation had an awesome screen for viewing and i loved the curved face.....and the very missed led.
There is more to it than who can open the applications faster, etc.
I owe a epic 4g touch, so I am partial towards this device. That being said, the iphone 4s was neck and neck with it, and possible as fast if you account for the longer animations.
The iphone 4s processor is clocked way lower than the gs2....it is trade off for battery life. While samsung was worried about being the faster android first and foremost...it appears that apple knew their device was more than fast enough...so they upped the battery life.
Sadly, there is no comparison between the graphic chips in these two phones. The iphone 4s blows away the mal 400...and is only bested by the high clocked version in the ipad 2.
The screen on the gs2 is big and beautiful...while the clarity is better on the iphone 4s thanks to the pixel density (this is true...not in the same way that the evo3d owners were claiming their screen was better...it is not...I just sold my evo3d....apple has a great screen here). So it comes down between big and beautiful...vs smaller and clear while still pretty.

Anyway, show me a side by side of the E4GT and the iJunk and that's fine. But what point is there putting the SGII in this section?
And as far as people who love the iJunk so much, the majority are paid by crapple to be fanboys. They either don't want to lose the sponsorship, are getting perks, have some kind of vested interest or otherwise in crapple. I just haven't seen an unbiased review on any of crapples products. Here's a fact about biased supposedly unbiased reporting: http://www.computerworld.com/s/arti...se_the_smartphone_IQ_once_again?taxonomyId=15
Read on down to paragraph 4 of that article. "A new antenna design addresses notorious dropped-call problems that plagued iPhone 4." I bet when he was reviewing the iJunk 4 he never mentioned that it was plagued with anything, ESPECIALLY dropped calls. They're all a bunch of phony, fake, biased and paid for reviews that lead smart, non tech savvy, people into buying crap.

Anyone who has any type of forum etiquitte knows to search before posting, on top of that, the OP picked the sorest topic to post about. iPhone vs anything does nothing but turn into a flame war ending with name calling. Every forum...every thread.

Sorry about that, I was in a hurry and at work. I could have sworn I saw your name as the OP.

Agreed, I was just replying to the thread. I did not create it.
So I feel like I have a decent unbiased comparison here so flaming aside I will put my 2 cents in. I have owed every android phone sprint has offered, along with a few att and tmobile devices because of my job. I posted in the other thread about who was jumping to the 4s and said I was not but my wife was because of a program she needed that worked flawlessly on ios but not so much on android....
After day 3 of her having the iphone she said she would rather have my e4g over her 64gb iphone that we bought OUTRIGHT! So of course I asked her why and being not so techy she said "I like it better". So we switched phones for a day and this is what I came up with....
Clarity of the iphone screen is awesome from little tiny fonts to zooming in and not seeing pixelation. Camera was comparable to my eye after zooming in, no printing though. That being said I have owed every iphone except the original and they all are the same, more or less, software wise. After using the 4s I returned it for a second e4g. I still think the iphone has the most forgiving and accurate keyboard but the screen size on the e4g makes up for that easily. App quality is nice on the iphone but android has done well in that category now as well. Siri is boarderline creepy...my wife asked random personal questions and it answered "I try to stay satisfied but this is about you not me" lol...but does its job well however I will never get used to any voice recognition, ios or android.
So all in all, I won't ever really down technical innovation, but after using both I am much more content with the e4g....and the $920 after taxes that came with the return. Like I said, just my 2 cents though.

Honestly I think posts like these are a bit pointless. You're on an Epic 4G Touch forum, what do you think the majority of the responses are going to be?
Hey guys
I was just surfing an came across this article from Phonesreview.co.uk. In it, the writer is constantly blasting the S3 as not being that great and how the Iphone 5 will blast this disappointing phone away. I had to read the article twice as I thought maybe my eyes were having a seizure or something lol. Talk about bias...please read the link below....I know that Steve Jobs has passed but wow I would of thought that this article was written by him.

hey! this means i can be a journalist too!
People are angry! what i say is fact! i have no sources or proof! its true because its on the internet!
see how good i am at this!?
its frustrating the level of ignorance some people have. i think we call them ''iSheep"?

I am seeing too much of this these days. I saw an article just a day or two ago for the Nexus 7 and they keep comparing it to the iPad and even say something along the lines of how he didn't even want to take it.....what?
This guy looks like an idiot after the debacle that the WWDC turned out to be. I remember ifanboys were enraged on twitter when the new iOS wasn't even as good looking as ICS, much less Jelly Bean.
This was written before the s3 was released and we still don't have specs for "the new iphone". How do you write a comparison review before a phone's specs are even released??
I'd say samsung selling 10 million or so galaxy s3s in July speaks for itself though.

Your right. This made me laugh just a little bit! Plus if the iPhone doesn't have better specs when its released months later....Then Apple just isnt doing it right. As far as blowing it out of the water...I don't think so. Be better hardware then the S3? I would hope so. Plus at the end of the day I like my S3. So I will keep this over any Apple product. As I own none for my own personal reason and I don't plan too anytime soon.
Articles like this only prove that the sgs3 is a threat for the smartphone crown. Haters are noticing. Just check the sales.

Much of the media (even more so on the net) seem mostly concerned with gathering viewers, curious, supportive, or even angry. In this case they're probably successfully baiting more page views from angry Android fans than Apple fans. Congrats you're giving people like that just what they want.
This is not "the most bias article you could read", but the most biased article we should not read and should not give free publicity to. There are plenty of idiots disguised as tech reporters. The best thing we can do is to ignore them.
I've been an Apple user since my parent's bought the first Mac when it debuted; sure I was like 5 but I grew up on Macs.
I've never owned an iPhone but have seriously considered it, researched it and chose Android for a number of reasons. I upgraded to the E4GT last year, most of my friends and family worship at the church of the iPhone and upon seeing the E4GT every single iPhonatic was blown away by how much better it is than their device.
Which brings me to today's announcement: I couldn't be less impressed-- the days of Apple innovation seem like a distant memory. The most impressive thing that Apple showcased today is that it has the world's greatest public relations team; I couldn't be more impressed by their PR machine.
Also, in reading many mainstream news articles about the new iPhone I've seen a plethora of quotes from stock analysts about the device's hardware and design but only a few quotes from tech experts; it's very telling that the only people raving about it are those with a vested interest in seeing the stock price go up.
Look forward to your thoughts and countless "cool story bro" replies ...

You hit the nail on the head with the lack of innovations. At this point I don't care if they're stolen, just give us something to rave about! Seemed like this iPhone was just another "Let's get it up to par with the current Android devices and work on the real innovation for next year" release. I don't inherently hate Apple. They're responsible for a large chunk of why computing is so integrated into our daily lives. I just miss the days when they were changing them.

Being a daily Apple user I agree with the above, Apple lost a lot when Steve Jobs died. However I wouldn't say that it is "just bringing it up to the current Android devices." I mean have you seen the hardware on that sucker? It's freaking gorgeous! You get Siri(Which I personally find fun and amusing), Airplay, Airprint, and iCloud which is a pretty nice service for those with Macs. I don't think the iPhone is for everyone, but I never have hesitated to recommend them to non-techies. My $0.02.

Yeah but it doesn't HAVE to degenerate like that, people just enjoy spamming random crap way too much. I don't see the problem with a little honest discussion on the subject.

Exactly right about Apple "getting up to par" with current Android devices, but IMO I think they failed to do that today. I think the S3 is a better device.
I'd choose my current E4GT running JB with Google Now over the new iPhone and Siri (leaving the 4G LTE out if the evaluation).
Like I said in my OP I've been an Apple fan/user my whole life and don't want this thread to focus on bashing Apple rather look at the real facts beyond the world's best hype machine.
I actually like the iPhone 5. Sadly it isn't exciting. It isn't like. ERMAHGERD ERPHERN5, its just boring besides small changes..

I'm still not convinced that Google Now is a match for Siri, to me it's comparing Kiwi and lemons. What makes the iPhone stand out is what has always made it standout, the how noob friendly it is, to us geeks who hack our phones it seems outdated and almost childish, but to users like my mom who just want a simple non-customizable phone that does what they tell it too every time the iPhone is perfect. That's always been what Apple is, magnificent hardware(If slightly behind the curve), dumbed down UI, and the sole focus being user experience out of the box.

While you are correct, when does that happen? And the OP even knew it would with the last sentence in the opening.. Hence my question of why even doing it?
If civility is what he was looking for, then why not go to the place for it?.. But I digress from the OP, so I'll stay on topic..
Op- are you really surprised?

I agree that the hardware is impressive but the integration you mention is only fully realized if you're using a Mac; the majority of customers are Windows users and the integration isn't as seamless- if you've ever run iTunes on a Mac and then used it in a Windows OS you know exactly what I mean. Whereas innovations like Play Music and almost every Google/Android gapps is seamlessly integrated and able to be accessed anywhere.
I am most impressed by Apple's incredible PR team and wonder why Google or Samsung isn't trying to hire every member of Apple's PR staff. A good example of the skills of their team: the same megapixel camera we have had on the E4GT for a year (including our panoramic capabilities) is being hyped as an innovative wow factor.
Wait, i have a question since you wanted a discussion.
How can you say blah when you said you have never owned one and what you know is by paper only?
Take this phone for example. How many people are so impressed by white papers but once they get the phone they then say "blah"?...

You're absolutely right about it being noob friendly (just wait until they allow the Jitterbug as a provider offering it LOL).
I do like Google Now but find its true value in the notifications and location based things it alerts me about; but the voice based capabilities are strong but IMO, like siri it's more of a cute thing to play with.
We all know how iPhone threads end up. This is about the 341,952 thread I've had to close today. There is an off topic discussion area to chat about the iPhone related topics, as this will go downhill very fast.
