I tried searching for this, but it only came up with stuff from Cricket and Boost.
Is it possible to activate my epic if it is rooted with a different ROM? Or do I need to activate it now before I root it and put the ROM on it? I would prefer to put the new ROM on it and then activate.
I am currently on my EVO(backup phone), but the battery life is making my power bill insane.(just kidding, but you get the point)
You didn't mention the carrier, but if you're activating through the built in activation then you're on sprint right? I believe you can flash your rom of choice and then activate, it can be before or after i believe.
I have done re-activation on a rooted phone so see no reason why it wouldn't work provided no system files are missing that are needed.

Yes, it would be on Sprint. I'll have to activate by calling sprint and having them do it over the phone.

How do you do that. When I sign in, the only thing I see is Activate new phone. That won't add two years on my service will it?

No. It should allow you to swap out the phones. Guy do it here all the time. It allows for receiving a replacement phone and activating it thus deactivating the old one.

In "my sprint", just deactivate the phone attached to that number... Then activate a new device once the deactivation is complete.
You'll most likely have to make a call out before the rest of the activation can be completed by going to settings -> update profile
It shouldn't matter if there is a custom rom on it because it's the same phone with the same hardware, which is all that matters. Plus most roms are based off the original stock rom. And Sprint has never given me problems with my rooted phone (mostly because they can't tell that it's rooted but also because they didn't make the thing.)
Just go to their site to activate it and pull the battery to put in that info underneath it and BOOM! It should work sooner or later Sprint won't even see your rooted phone.

My friend at work bought a second evo 4g, and brought it to me to root and rom for him. Rooted with revolutionary, no problem. Flashed cm7 and miui on there, and made backups of both so he can flash back and forth between them to see which he likes.
So everything up to there was fine. He went onto the sprint site this morning and did the esn swap to the rooted evo, and does not get any data (3g icon) now. He had already swaped to it after he bought it, while it was still stock, to make sure it worked, and data worked just fine. Then went back to his original evo, and gave me the new one to work on for him.
Is there a data fix that can be done? Or should he call sprint to activate it instead of doing the esn swap on the website?

I think it'd be best to go to / call sprint and have them activate to alleviate any problems.
Did he activate while on CM7 or miui? YOu need to be on a stock rom when activating. I would just tell him to get on a stock rom, and call sprint and have them activate/esn swap one more time. It's highly possible the activation just didnt go all the way through their system.

No, your reading correct. He wanted to try it himself, that way if he messed something up, it wouldn't be on his daily phone. He then had trouble rooting and brought it to me to fix. Had to unroot with ruu, turn s on, then re root and flash.

Any sense 2.0 rom SHOULD work. However, to make it easier, its better to just flash a stock rom, just in case.

Ok. qbking77 does a lot of videos for my epic that are very easy to follow, and did a few for the evo as well. He did one for the kingdom synergy rom a couple months ago, so I sent my buddy the link and told him to try that one. Think that would work ok even though its 3.0? I'll dig through the threads for a stock 2.0 as well. Any specific one I should look for? Thanks
Edit: Kingdom Synergy worked. His phone is up and running. Thank you evo community, for your help!

i'm basically having the same problem with my phone. unfortunately, on order to get the 3g back, you need to un-root. there is some kind of issue with communication with the sprint servers when activating the mobile network, even if your running a stock rom. so the only way to gain access from the mobile network is to go to a sprint store and have them un-root your device. if anyone has found another route, without having to un-root, please explain how

Absolutely not true. You do NOT have to unroot to fix a 3g problem, just be on a Sense rom. Rooting has absolutely NOTHING to do with signal problems or activating.

Umm, just be on a Sense rom, preferrably stock. Then you can call sprint and have them re-activate or re-provision the phone. Again, you can absolutely do this while rooted. My last three phones, I rooted them out of the box before I even activated them.
I have Cyanogenmod 9a2 installed on my E4GT. This morning I ported my phone number from AT&T to Sprint. Now, when I place a call it give me a "your account could not be validated." Data still works, and I can still call Sprint with *02. Looking at my phone's Status Page, it still lists my old Sprint phone number. In system updates, I did a "Update PRL" and "Update Profile", both of which made calls to a Sprint customer service voice number, perhaps *03? I did a hard power cycle (removed battery for a few minutes) and nothing appears to have changed.
When I called customer service, they had me dial ##xxxxxx# which according to CS, is for my particular phone. When I dial that number in CM9, nothing happens.
I've come up with two possible solutions:
1) Flashing back to the stock Sprint ROM, but I really like CM9, and I'd rather not set this phone back up from scratch (again).
2) Buy CMDA-Workshop and use it to change the phone number. Not thrilled at the prospect of spending $99 to possibly resolve this.
Would either of those solutions work?
I've got to think there is an easier/better way, but the keywords I'm searching aren't turning them up. Any suggestions?
Your going to have to flash back to a stock ROM cm roms won't allow activation...so flash it change number update prl etc and flash back to it

Unless they use the Phone EFS Clear option in Odin.
ShinyDude100 goes into a little detail about that option's use in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31140050&postcount=609
Thanks Nikon for acknowledging that, OP, cwm backup your MetroPCS rom, then have fun messing with your phone but don't lose that backup. There are fixes in mms and etc on other phones, a new one may have to be made to get all of your features working correctly. YMMV on metro's 3g working for you, as some cities claim 3g to be blocked in certain cities on flashed phones, I will dig deep into that issue eventually and post a guide sometime on regaining metro's 3g in cities who got blocked. I have a hunch on what could be blocked. Cheers and have fun.

Question... why would you want to use the Phone EFS Clear option in Odin if you want to keep it on the same carrier. People should do their homework on Odin before using. And if anything CDMA Workshop. Connect port read change msn, meid, username, password then write 000000 to unlock. Go on ur epic and input in dialer *#*#8778#*#* or ##8778# go to edit enter 000000 then change everything from there that simple. Save then reboot. Call carrier and say u want to activate or just dial *228 or *#2284 whichever u find better. And there u go

Nexus S 4g flashed to MetroPCS, but I cant activate
I bought a Nexus s 4g that had been previously flashed to Metro PCS. The person just removed their Metro account 5 days ago. When I called 611, it went to the Metro recording..but I tried to call to activate, and they said go to the corporate store to have it unlocked. So I went to the store, and the guy tried to activate it, and put a couple codes and was shaking his head. His advice, " Take this to a store that does flashing and have them do some programming so it can be activated." Do I have to have it re flashed? I sure hope not. Please help!
You should ask in the Nexus S forum.

I recently rooted my Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II with a toolkit, and it seemingly deactivated my phone, so I couldn't make calls, send text messages or use 3G at all. Every time I would reboot my phone, It would try to do a "Hands Free Activation" and fail.
Since then I have unrooted my phone and restored it to stock, but it still seems deactivated. I can't make calls, send texts or use 3G, and I also still get the "Hands Free Activation" and it still fails every time.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Ok, so I used the tar file you used, and it no longer attempts to do the hands free activation.
I seem to be recieving a few text messages, but it seems delayed and sparatic. Phone calls made to me go straight to voicemail. Phone calls I make go through occasionally. I can use 3G for internet access.

Have them try manually programming your phone. They will need you to dial ##MSL#, then tap EDIT, input your MDN (Phone number), MSID (Network routing number) and then select DONE. The phone will reboot, but all of the correct info will be stored in the phone and it shouldn't have an issue with hands free.

With HFA you shouldn't need manual programming as long as the MEID is still set.
Try ##72786# (##SCRTN#) to force HFA and allow the profile/PRL to update.
Also run the MC2 One Click with the change ID in the name (number) to update everything if not already on MC2.
That should get you going again.
If you see HFA pop back up let me know.

That was the issue he was having is that HFA wouldn't complete, and so his phone wouldn't fully provision. If he manually programs then it can skip HFA and should work without it.

In my experience it's not that easy anymore. Manual provision may not allow a profile update, at which point you now have to manually key in AA/HAA keys. And that's not even addressing the LTE SIM.
In this person's case a MC2 one click and the carrier partition fix ought to have done it either way. Feel free to research what we've done so far on related issues if you question why I gave this answer. I have older threads explaining the problem.

First I'll preface this with the fact that I'm not doubting you in the least, you may be correct, and since OP hasn't responded I don't know. Your thanks meter is through the roof, which tells me that you know your ****, so I'm not questioning you. What I'm trying to do is explain it from the way I see it. I have to deal with issues like this at last 50 times a day. People call in because they can't get their phone to provision over the network and I have to troubleshoot and get it working. 999/1000 times it comes down to a provisioning delay or an issue with service. Without knowing the specifics I can't say if that's the cause of his issue or not. What I can say is that I can count on one hand the amount of times I have had to open a CTMS ticket for provisioning. If I can't get SCRTN to work, then I refresh OMA and power cycle, then try again. If that doesn't do the trick then I manually program. When the phone comes back on I have them wait at least a minute, ensure that there is signal and a 3G/4G logo, and have them test. 99.9% of the times the phone works. That's why I suggested manual programming, And then if there is an issue with PRL I'll have them connect to wifi and update again, but rarely have I had an call where not having a current PRL meant that the phone wouldn't provision. Unless he went and manually wrote an archaic PRL in himself then anyone that is already loaded in should work just fine.
TL;DR: Basically, what I'm conveying in this wall of text is that manual programming negates the need for HFA. They both do the same thing, but SCRTN trusts that the network is working, and then automatically updates the PRL, Profile, and Firmware, all of which you can do manually once the correct MDN and MSID are in place.

Sprint Galaxy Note 2 SPH-L900 (how do I reinstall Sprint PRLs&get rid of Page Plus)
I bought a Sprint Galaxy Note 2 SPH-L900 not too long ago on Craigslist. Guy told me it worked with Sprint but he apparently flashed it to something that used Verizon PRLs (from what i've been told probably Page Plus). I recently tried to use Ringplus/Sprint with this phone but couldn't use it due to the PRL problem. When I try to make a call a robo Verizon operator pops up and I can't make calls. Of course, I can't get in contact with the guy that sold me the phone so im hoping you guys can help me get it to work with Sprint.
The MSL number has been changed to all zeros. And the dial code ##72786# shows "SCRTN" at the very top then just restarts my phone.
So I rooted the phone using this simple process. [SPH-L900] CF-Auto-Root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956180
Then I downloaded SuperSU. Then tried DFS to change my MSL number back to the original number. But it didn't work. I tried PRL Helper, but that too did not work. Won't let me reset the PRL. So I unrooted my phone (or so I thought) and reset the phone to factory to see if that would work, and it did not. So I reinstalled the CF-Auto-Root and now even SuperSU won't work. Im new to all this rooting stuff. THIS IS FRUSTRATING!
My phone is running stock rom. Android version 4.4.2 Baseband version L900VPUCOH3. Build number KOT49H.L900VPUCOH3.
PLEASE HELP!
I'm not sure of all the prl changes and how all that works. That said I would use odin to revert to a stock unrooted ROM and try to reactivate sprint via settings prl updates ect.
Edit: here's a link to stock ROM for Odin. Hope it helps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2780984

The reverted to 4.2 Kit Kat stock rom using "ALL_SPT_L900VPUCNE2_L900SPTCNE2_1561791_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5" file.

Then I downloaded the "25xxx = residential acct - lte/800smr" PRL files from
http://*******************eestat.ir/?index=forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880781 (Add '?http://?xda-d?evelopers.freestat' to the beginning of link without the '?' marks.)
and extracting the "25XXX_LEG" folder then using the "25016.prl" file to desktop then using CDMA Workshop 2.7 to change the prl to the 25016 prl file.
Then I used trial version of DFS 16.2.21.0 to change my HEX and DEC and esn numbers to match what was on originally on the phone (I found this out through either Ringplus or going into phone dial code). It was a little difficult to change them because DFS kept saying it was skipping the request but after a little while even though it said it didn't change anything it did change it back to the original. That allowed my phone to be read by Ringplus and I was able to get the phone activated and PRLs updated automatically.
