Greetings!
I recently rooted my Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II with a toolkit, and it seemingly deactivated my phone, so I couldn't make calls, send text messages or use 3G at all. Every time I would reboot my phone, It would try to do a "Hands Free Activation" and fail.
Since then I have unrooted my phone and restored it to stock, but it still seems deactivated. I can't make calls, send texts or use 3G, and I also still get the "Hands Free Activation" and it still fails every time.
Thanks in advance for the advice.
Call sprint or take it to a sprint store.

I called Sprint and they walked me through a ##72786#. I did not help, I am having the exact same problems.
I had the same issue, even was on the sprint for 45 minutes to no avail. Used Odin to flash back to stock/rooted and was good.

I have tried flashing back to stock rooted, and it still runs the hands free activation and I don't have service.

Which .tar file did you use? I tried several until this one worked for me. SPH-L900_MA5_853599_Rooted_Restore.tar.md5. Erased everything and Then was able to flash an updated version and keep data.

Ok, so I used the tar file you used, and it no longer attempts to do the hands free activation.
I seem to be recieving a few text messages, but it seems delayed and sparatic. Phone calls made to me go straight to voicemail. Phone calls I make go through occasionally. I can use 3G for internet access.
In my notification panel, my service bars jump from zero to full quickly, and frequently. It usually sits on zero bars.

Have them try manually programming your phone. They will need you to dial ##MSL#, then tap EDIT, input your MDN (Phone number), MSID (Network routing number) and then select DONE. The phone will reboot, but all of the correct info will be stored in the phone and it shouldn't have an issue with hands free.

With HFA you shouldn't need manual programming as long as the MEID is still set.
Try ##72786# (##SCRTN#) to force HFA and allow the profile/PRL to update.
Also run the MC2 One Click with the change ID in the name (number) to update everything if not already on MC2.
That should get you going again.
If you see HFA pop back up let me know.

That was the issue he was having is that HFA wouldn't complete, and so his phone wouldn't fully provision. If he manually programs then it can skip HFA and should work without it.

In my experience it's not that easy anymore. Manual provision may not allow a profile update, at which point you now have to manually key in AA/HAA keys. And that's not even addressing the LTE SIM.
In this person's case a MC2 one click and the carrier partition fix ought to have done it either way. Feel free to research what we've done so far on related issues if you question why I gave this answer. I have older threads explaining the problem.

First I'll preface this with the fact that I'm not doubting you in the least, you may be correct, and since OP hasn't responded I don't know. Your thanks meter is through the roof, which tells me that you know your ****, so I'm not questioning you. What I'm trying to do is explain it from the way I see it. I have to deal with issues like this at last 50 times a day. People call in because they can't get their phone to provision over the network and I have to troubleshoot and get it working. 999/1000 times it comes down to a provisioning delay or an issue with service. Without knowing the specifics I can't say if that's the cause of his issue or not. What I can say is that I can count on one hand the amount of times I have had to open a CTMS ticket for provisioning. If I can't get SCRTN to work, then I refresh OMA and power cycle, then try again. If that doesn't do the trick then I manually program. When the phone comes back on I have them wait at least a minute, ensure that there is signal and a 3G/4G logo, and have them test. 99.9% of the times the phone works. That's why I suggested manual programming, And then if there is an issue with PRL I'll have them connect to wifi and update again, but rarely have I had an call where not having a current PRL meant that the phone wouldn't provision. Unless he went and manually wrote an archaic PRL in himself then anyone that is already loaded in should work just fine.
TL;DR: Basically, what I'm conveying in this wall of text is that manual programming negates the need for HFA. They both do the same thing, but SCRTN trusts that the network is working, and then automatically updates the PRL, Profile, and Firmware, all of which you can do manually once the correct MDN and MSID are in place.
Can anyone tell me how to update manually update prl on sprint note 2?

Its possible that in his account the data feature is on the account but it us blocked, which would explain why his MMS isn't working either.
OP, to get your phone to reactivate, go to menu, settings, system updates, update profile. Or if that doesn't work, then you'll need to do ###, need your phone number and msid, and reprogram that way. This all needs to be done using stock build for the phone.
If you're just trying to upgrade your PRL, try using your Sprint Zone application on the phone and it'll tell you if your PRL even needs an update.

Hi Lisa. Like Peanut said, please provide us with additional info.
As for my personal problem with this, I had this problem for weeks running 2 different Gingerbread roms. Calls just would go straight to voicemail, everything else worked fine (texting, outgoing calls). I ended up calling Sprint and having them walk me through a full re-provisioning of the phone with ##72786# and also ##501435# to fully resolve my issue.
I won't post the rest of the details on how to do it because you need additional information to accomplish this and it's just easier to have Sprint walk you through all the steps.

Yes, the settings will follow you through different ROMs. It probably would be best to be on GB when you do it. I don't know how it will affect AOKP. You will need your MSL and MSID if you try to do it yourself. That's why I suggested just calling Sprint, letting them know your problem (and just let them know someone suggested those 2 steps, you never know the level of expertise you get on the other end). It's just easier that way. Like I said, I didn't want to post the complete steps in case I missed something necessary and it caused you other problems.
OK dude try this.

Go into Odin mode
Flash fd19 modem into phone slot of Odin.

See if it helps.

Sure thing. Call Sprint tech support and tell them you're reprovisioning your phone and need the MSID phone number.
From Dialpad ##501435#
Select 'Edit'
Select 'Touch Here'
Enter YOUR cell phone number on the virtual kepad that comes up and press the return key on the bottom right of the virtual keypad.
MSID
0000000000
Will be displayed on screen.
Once again select 'Touch Here'
Enter your MSID on the virtual keypad that comes up (it looks like a cell phone number, for example mine is 7272780149 for my phone. That's not my phone # btw )
Press the return key on the bottom right of the virtual keypad.
Select 'Done' and the phone will reboot.
Edit: Update your PRL & Profile once this has between completed and manually reboot your phone.

It all started last night, my phone no longer connects to the Sprint network. When I try to make calls I get this error "The number or code you entered is incorrect" when someone calls me they get the same error. I have flashed a stock image through odin and its back on ICS but I get a SIM card error and the phone refuses to connect to Data. I am at a loss on what could have caused this but my phone is useless at this time and I am pretty pissed. My phone worked great no problem until I attempted to use Google Voice and that is when I lost Data and Voice function. I have removed my phone number from google, disabled GV and even changed my phone number but the problem still exists. If someone could shed some light on my problem I would greatly appreciate it!

How is being rooted going to fix this?
I have gone 100% stock all the way to ICS. I then rooted, updated to MD4 including the radios and firmware. I have data now but still no calls or texting. I have edited the MDN and forced reactivation. They guy last night said it was a tower issue but I'm now 35 miles away and I highly doubt the same problem exists here. My girlfriends phone works no problems at all. It has to be an account issue but no one at Sprint cares to help...

If your data is working fine then I have to call it their issue for sure. Which would make sense as data could be working based off of account info rather than your number. Try a ##scrtn#
This will not wipe anything on your phone. It will simply reset your mobile network connection and force OTA provisioning.
By chance are you running AdBlock Plus? As it will block those from updateing.

Nope, I wish it was that easy
If you have another device laying around, try going onto Sprint.com and do a service swap to it. Then service swap back to this one. If you do not have one, you might need to call Customer Care to have them try it with a dummy device.
I recall having an issue similar to this on my wife's device. I don't remember exactly what I had to do to resolve it, but I did get it fixed.
Update in case anyone had the same problem. I called Sprint and got the run around until they finally said it was a hardware issue (ie: my phone) and not a network problem.
I decided to just live with it (and without WiFi hotspot) for a while. Then magically it started working again a couple of days ago. I bet it has something to do with the Sprint network being worked on that the techs were just clueless about. Seems to me that Sprint takes its sweet old time upgrading its towers.

Network Error, Please Try Again Later
I have had that issue for sometime now too. I only discovered it because my phone downloaded the ZVD update and for it to install properly it requires to update the profile first. I have the same "network error, please try again later" on both PRL and Profile. Spent about an hour with a higher level tech on the phone trying all types of things with no success. When I install the ZVD update it breaks the phone and wont receive calls and requires a push from sprint to reactivate. Every time I reboot now It attempts to do a hands free activation and fails but it is working. Last time this happened (ZVC update) I had to wipe the phone to fix it which I'm not in the mood for anytime soon. I've been waiting for a decent ROM with WiFi calling built in.

Yeah, old thread but thanks as this just helped me out. This is for my LG G4 by the way.
Thanks.
This is a common problem with Sprint. It's not your fault or the phone's fault. It's Sprint's rat butt network acting out. There's nothing that you, the techs you call (even if you get lucky and get a U.S.-based representative), or anybody else can do. The phone will keep trying to activate itself every few minutes until it finally does get through. Then you're set to go, except of course for the dropped calls, missed or delayed text messages, and 500k data speeds (on their alleged LTE network). That's assuming that one of the Sprint bloatware apps doesn't decide to freeze/soft-brick your phone.
There's a reason that Sprint is virtually giving away their services (i.e. the half-off your previous bill, free activation, and pay the early termination fee for the other carrier). They're Number 4 of the 4 major carriers, and that's not likely to change in the near future, because most of the MVNO's latch onto Sprint, which further burdens the resources they do have.
couldn't have said it better myself...then I keep asking myself why am I still with sprint!
THANK YOU! It was Adblock causing the error. Took me some time to find this answer.
Sprint Galaxy Note 2 SPH-L900 (how do I reinstall Sprint PRLs&get rid of Page Plus)
I bought a Sprint Galaxy Note 2 SPH-L900 not too long ago on Craigslist. Guy told me it worked with Sprint but he apparently flashed it to something that used Verizon PRLs (from what i've been told probably Page Plus). I recently tried to use Ringplus/Sprint with this phone but couldn't use it due to the PRL problem. When I try to make a call a robo Verizon operator pops up and I can't make calls. Of course, I can't get in contact with the guy that sold me the phone so im hoping you guys can help me get it to work with Sprint.
The MSL number has been changed to all zeros. And the dial code ##72786# shows "SCRTN" at the very top then just restarts my phone.
So I rooted the phone using this simple process. [SPH-L900] CF-Auto-Root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956180
Then I downloaded SuperSU. Then tried DFS to change my MSL number back to the original number. But it didn't work. I tried PRL Helper, but that too did not work. Won't let me reset the PRL. So I unrooted my phone (or so I thought) and reset the phone to factory to see if that would work, and it did not. So I reinstalled the CF-Auto-Root and now even SuperSU won't work. Im new to all this rooting stuff. THIS IS FRUSTRATING!
My phone is running stock rom. Android version 4.4.2 Baseband version L900VPUCOH3. Build number KOT49H.L900VPUCOH3.
PLEASE HELP!
I'm not sure of all the prl changes and how all that works. That said I would use odin to revert to a stock unrooted ROM and try to reactivate sprint via settings prl updates ect.

There has got to be a way to fix this...
Sounds like you need to Google how to flash your phone to whatever carrier you are wanting to get on. I myself am on boost mobile.

Thanks. But thats what i've been doing. Im trying to get my phone to work with Ringplus(they use Sprint towers). I've been using cdma workshop to try resolve the issue but nothing has been working. I know that I need to revert my phone back to Sprint to be able to use Ringplus. Info on how to go from Page Plus to Sprint is very limited.

Thanks for responding. This is actually one of the first things I did and I also kept getting transferred to different people. What specifically did you ask the Sprint people for them to do what they did?
I had to buy a cheap donor phone to clone the settings and such over so i could use mine on boost. Just fyi

How would I clone another phone? And in order to do this right, would I have to clone another SPH-L900?

Sorry for the late response and thanks for the reply but I was trying to go to RingPlus not PagePlus.
Problem Solved!
Forgot to update. I fixed this problem.
How I FIXED Ringplus PRL problem (flashing to stock rom may or may not be necessary)
I fixed the problem by rooting my Galaxy Note 2 SPH-L900 with odin here.
[SPH-L900] CF-Auto-Root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956180
The reverted to 4.2 Kit Kat stock rom using "ALL_SPT_L900VPUCNE2_L900SPTCNE2_1561791_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5" file.
https://www.kingoapp.com/root-tutorials/how-to-flash-samsung-stock-rom-via-odin.htm
Then I downloaded the "25xxx = residential acct - lte/800smr" PRL files from
http://*******************eestat.ir/?index=forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880781 (Add '?http://?xda-d?evelopers.freestat' to the beginning of link without the '?' marks.)
and extracting the "25XXX_LEG" folder then using the "25016.prl" file to desktop then using CDMA Workshop 2.7 to change the prl to the 25016 prl file.
Then I used trial version of DFS 16.2.21.0 to change my HEX and DEC and esn numbers to match what was on originally on the phone (I found this out through either Ringplus or going into phone dial code). It was a little difficult to change them because DFS kept saying it was skipping the request but after a little while even though it said it didn't change anything it did change it back to the original. That allowed my phone to be read by Ringplus and I was able to get the phone activated and PRLs updated automatically.
