[Q] Rosie app drawer lag? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I don't know what the hell is going on but for some reason the Rosie app drawer from any sense GB Rom is laggy. There is always some sort of lag, I don't know if its just me or other people are experiencing it. The super smooth homescreen scrolling was made but is the app drawer posible to be optimised?

If you are willing to change the rom then may i suggest getting the rcmix3d runny 3.1 rom so far the the best rom i have tried it has no lags or freezes and the battery life is also excellent.

That's because of the crappy coded sense apps. every single one of them is laggy. not much you can do about. OC helps a little but it will be still laggy.

I was running Runny 3.1 the other day, I flash all sorts of Sense roms and the only thing I have problems with is the app drawer. It's not exactly lag, just a lower FPS than a lot of other UI elements such as the homescreen.

This is about the app drawer. Not the homescreen itself.

Thanks, but I'm already running this. As Flussen said this is about the app drawer. Is anyone else having this issue? It's easily seen when one of the unlimited scrolling mods are applied.

Do you mean the lag when you touch the ▩ to open the app drawer?
I have the same problem, it's not much, maybe 1/4 to 1/2 of a second but it's annoying. I don't like the iPhone but you have to admit everything's super smooth there. Unlike my DHD on Sense 3. It feels like a slightly underperforming PC.
I tried both the Supercharger and Smooth Sense 3 but I'm not sure there is any effect at all.
And definitely nothing about the app drawer lagging.
I don't know why only some people report this, either most people don't care/notice or it really only happens on some phones. That'd be strange though. Has anyone tried the official HTC Sense 3 ROM, does the problem occur there as well?
I'm thinking about downgrading to Sense 2, there isn't much I'd miss from 3 besides the lock screen and that can be patched into Sense 2.
Is there an easy way to flash any Sense 3 ROM with Sense 2? Maybe just by replacing the rosie apk?

[Debate]What rom and why?

Alright.. so we all probably use virtuous rom, gingervillian, cyanogen or miui.
I wanna know why everyone chooses each one.. I've flashed all and am just curious to why everyone else chooses the roms they do.. what really makes you stay with the rom you have??
I run miui. To me cyanogen lacks full customization. And has no benefitial features over miui. I get same battery life and phone runs smoothly at 1ghz as it would on any other rom. ONLY issue is random reboots. Which is a theme issue not a rom issue.. And I don't care for sense roms.. to me they slow the phone down.. although I am waiting for cm7 to become stable before my first flash.
Sent from my G2.
Currently I am running MIUI. I'm still getting used to it but overall I like it. I love the UI. It looks clean and it's quick.
Stock post ota deodexed.... because every other rom gives me some sort of problem that there is no guide to fixing and I don't have the time to troubleshoot the bull****
Whats deodexed mean??

The 1.2Ghz clock speed from the God speed thread.
Anything higher than that affects my battery and I don't see any obvious benefit as I don't play any games that need a higher CPU.
virtuous because of eye candy and htc streams are awesome!!
which rom saves battery most?
I use CM6.1.1
I previously tried Virtuous because I always wanted a Sense phone but realized Sense actually sucks, well the messaging, gallery and dialer at least.
I use my phone heavily for A2DP bluetooth streaming and apperantly cyanogenmod is pretty much the best rom for bluetooth audio quality, also the added equalizer feature is awesome. Its just like the stock rom whish I loved since my nexus days but with just the right amount of customization.
MIUI looks annoying as hell, why not just buy an iDevice if your into that UI?

When you install an app, sometimes it comes with an odex file (i believe it's an extension of some sort to the app) When you are de-odex'd, it merges the extension (dot odex file) with the apk. The only reason I wanted this rom was to use themes for stock roms. I also found that it boots the phone up a hell of a lot faster.
Highly recommended for people who want the stock feel but like small mods here and there.

That's not a rom...
that's a kernel........... *facepalm*
I run Virtuous for a few reasons:
1. camera - the stock Android camera app is abysmal. Few options and not easy to use in the least.
2. music player - genre support is a big one for me
3. Sense - I use LauncherPro, but I prefer the sense contacts and other features.
4. I installed the 3D gallery from stock, so I have access to both. One other small benefit of the otherwise useless Sense gallery is a scrollable 'share' pop-up. On stock ROMs (or CM), if you have too many options in this menu, you can't scroll so you can't access them. Sense lets you scroll the 'share' list.

Not everything about miui is iphonish... and even the parts that are you have options.. the menus? I turn those to the standard grid. the icons? Not all are uniformed "squares" all thou the theme is use they are. But I actually am I fan of uniformed icons. I think it looks cleaner.. imho. What about miui looks annoying?? I admit the original launcher is lame. But I don't use it.. I think docks and notification bars are lame. I don't use either and rock adw.. swipe down for notifications and up for apps. plus you can't tell me miui lock screen isn't sexy..

A more decent rom that's fast and not laggy?

I"m seriously annoyed at the fact most of the sense roms or hybrid sense 2.0 + 3, 3.5 whatever, seems super laggy. Maybe it's this phone but for now I have to use this and it just is not acceptable.
Plus my limit number of ROMS due to AOSP not fixing up the voicemail bug with Rogers/Bell voicemail notification not showing up.
So far there is only virtuous G lite that works with VM notification and is AOSP and NOT laggy.
So can someone suggest me a good fast rom, I don't really care about features much, just something fast and doesn't lag 1 second everytime I try to scroll the homescreen or status bar.
I don't know what other people are doing to use those sense roms or maybe they have super patience to deal with the lag.

Pyromod is the fastest rom that I have tried yet. I'm using xboarder's rom now and I am very pleased. CM7 is pretty smooth too but the above two I listed smoke CM7 in my opinion. I gave up on sense, too much flashy stuff that gets old when you just want to be productive. O also look at miui, I was very pleased with that too as far as speed.

[Q] Help with launcher lag

Im currently using XboarderMOD AOSP Gingerbread v3.0.1 and there is a considerable amount of lag when scrolling back and forth through homescreens with the stock launcher. Ive found that this completely goes away once i open and close the app drawer, but the lag will come back once i open any app and go back to home. This is a problem ive had with many roms, the only one that doesnt do it is virtuous g-lite. Anyone else have this problem or know whats causing it and how to fix it?
I havent used this ROM, but I similarly experienced when used Virtuos Unity 1.31 this is maybe due to Sense 3.5. Maybe it is because the RAM is not enough. Remember DZ Ram is only 512 MB.
Now, I am back with the stock ROM and it runs smooth ....( but I m planning to flash VIrtuos Fusion 2.0)...

really? I have Flyer, it has 1 GB RAM and Sense UI is running so smooth
In DZ, I even overclocked it to 1.5 GHz (the same clock speed as Flyer) but still lagging
And, last night I flash Virtuos Sense 2.00. It runs so smooth... try it

Buy ADW EX, and then install this

Very smooth
i prefer the stock launcher, adw, launcher pro, go launcher etc. are all choppy when i use live wallpapers, which is my reason for liking the stock launcher.

I think its a hardware acceleration problem (as in, there's no HW accel). The stock launcher won't be as smooth as aftermarket launchers that use different resources to increase smoothness.

Love my One X hate the Sense Lag...

This is my first time owning a phone with Sense on it. I have played with other peoples phones with the older version and did not like it much.
I have to say I actually like this version!
My problem is the lag sense has. Load up a bunch of widgets like mail and such and there is annoying lag.
Its definitely not the phone itself. I have tried Apex laucher with widgets on every screen and its as smooth as butter. I like the look of Sense so much better though so Im trying to figure out if which I want to use.
I came from a nexus one which served me well for 2 years so this is a big upgrade for me.
Has HTC addressed these type of issues on other phones? Im really hoping they do as I think its kinda embarrassing that there flagship phone has this much lag because of there software. You would think they would address this asap.
Im already rooted with android revolution and it helped a little but not much. I guess I could not use a bunch of the widgets but there there to use and Im trying to get away from having a zillion app icons on my screens.
Also - in the future do most of the Roms eventually address this issue as they mature?
Thanks!
For starters use the advice on the following thread (credir to OP )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599214
Secondly, sense will always be heavier/laggier then AOSP but for sure custom sense roms will be much smoother in the future.
Patience is a virtue as this is a new device/processor and the devs need time to make it as smooth and stable as possible
I tried the above and it helped slightly but not much.
Im fully loaded with Apex now and running smooth. So smooth I can scroll as fast as possible with wigets on every screen and no lag.
Now that I have it set up to my liking Im really enjoying apex.

Stuttering Sense

Hi guys,
Anyone experience stuttering homescreens on their One X? I have every single page of my Launcher filled, I'm running Stock Sense and I am using the Sense Launcher.
Don't tell me 'simple fix; don't use all of your homescreens' when I was using my Desire HD, and even Desire this problem was not apparent.
I think it sucks that we have LiveWallpaper issues, Sense issues, boot issues (if near low battery), HTC have had plenty of bugs to iron out these problems! Not to mention Gingerbread kernel (oh daym)

here is the fix for the issue
[FIX] Ultra & Super Smooth Sense 4.0 Launcher (Rosie) + Supercharged
and here you can vote for HTC to officially remove the stupid thing causing the stutter
I talked to HTC Jeff Gordon about this and lets hope they listen
Hi hamdir,
I have been through the thread you provided the link to & tried to post there but was not allowed to. I have tried to install the ultrasmooth but am I still stuttering so I was wondering if you could take a look at what I'm doing because it's probably not correct. Apologies but this is my first android phone, which I only got yesterday & I don't understand a lot of the terminology. So this is what I have done so far:
Rooted phone, installed ARHD 6.0 & bricked kernel 3.0. To install ultrasmooth I have -
Downloaded version for 1.29.401.11 (this is correct one for me) & saved to the downloads folder in my One X.
Boot the phone into Clockworkmod recovery & choose install file from sd card.
Locate Ultrasmooth zip file in the One X downloads folder & install.
Install completes successfully & when I reboot it tells me that android is updating but then when I get to the home screen it's still far from smooth.
Thanks
I have been in contact with HTC discussing the stuttering issue and the pausing live wallpaper when moving between screens, I went though a few processes escalation teams etc. The most recent reply I got was that my request had been forwarded to their r&d department in Taiwan to try and put the fixes in a future update

seriously? :| far from smooth? you are the first to experience this
you did the correct process, i never tricked bricked kernel, im on stock
did you still have the 3d widgets layers? this is how u can tell if its applied
edit: why dont u try the latest ARHD 6.1.0 its included and asks if you want to be installed while flashing the ROM
Thanks for the quick reply.
The widgets do look 3D still so I guess either I'm doing something not quite right or that it doesn't work with bricked kernel.

you mean in the weather you can see the clouds on seprate layers
if so its didnt work
kernel unrelated
did you ever uninstall and re install sense launcher?
I'm expierencing micro stuttering on this phone all around. I'm finding it to be largely unrelated to the launcher, as it is by no means stutter free on Apex either. I'm on stock, unrooted and very disappointed my quad core phone stuttters more than the galaxy y (€ 59,-) we have laying around here.

no I have no idea why its not working for you, you can try arhd 6.1.0
@schiphol after ultra stutter is unrelated to launcher its a device fresh out of the one so expect performance updates
by the way I definitely had no micro stutter due to supercharger die hard patch
I just switched to hard to kill and micro stutter is back
Cheers, I'll give it a try
The home screen stutter is definitely due to those sense Widgets. When I remove them the UI is very smooth. But of course not using those widgets doesn't make any sense (.......)

Never experienced any lag on my One X (Completely stock).
Also, while 2.6.x kernels have been largely used in gingerbread roms, the 2.6.x kernel series are not Gingerbread-specific. Yes it's an old kernel series and 3.x (particularly 3.4) would be a lot better for android, linux kernel versions are not associated with any one version of android
I have stutter when switching between my clock page and my Twitter sense app. Apart from that no stutter. I have all pages filled up with HTC widgets aswell. Sense doesn't lag though. Only stutters ever so slightly. I'm not sure why though.:/
