Alright.. so we all probably use virtuous rom, gingervillian, cyanogen or miui.
I wanna know why everyone chooses each one.. I've flashed all and am just curious to why everyone else chooses the roms they do.. what really makes you stay with the rom you have??
I run miui. To me cyanogen lacks full customization. And has no benefitial features over miui. I get same battery life and phone runs smoothly at 1ghz as it would on any other rom. ONLY issue is random reboots. Which is a theme issue not a rom issue.. And I don't care for sense roms.. to me they slow the phone down.. although I am waiting for cm7 to become stable before my first flash.

Currently I am running MIUI. I'm still getting used to it but overall I like it. I love the UI. It looks clean and it's quick.
Stock post ota deodexed.... because every other rom gives me some sort of problem that there is no guide to fixing and I don't have the time to troubleshoot the bull****
Whats deodexed mean??

The 1.2Ghz clock speed from the God speed thread.
Anything higher than that affects my battery and I don't see any obvious benefit as I don't play any games that need a higher CPU.
virtuous because of eye candy and htc streams are awesome!!
which rom saves battery most?
I use CM6.1.1
I previously tried Virtuous because I always wanted a Sense phone but realized Sense actually sucks, well the messaging, gallery and dialer at least.
I use my phone heavily for A2DP bluetooth streaming and apperantly cyanogenmod is pretty much the best rom for bluetooth audio quality, also the added equalizer feature is awesome. Its just like the stock rom whish I loved since my nexus days but with just the right amount of customization.
MIUI looks annoying as hell, why not just buy an iDevice if your into that UI?

When you install an app, sometimes it comes with an odex file (i believe it's an extension of some sort to the app) When you are de-odex'd, it merges the extension (dot odex file) with the apk. The only reason I wanted this rom was to use themes for stock roms. I also found that it boots the phone up a hell of a lot faster.
Highly recommended for people who want the stock feel but like small mods here and there.

That's not a rom...
that's a kernel........... *facepalm*
I run Virtuous for a few reasons:
1. camera - the stock Android camera app is abysmal. Few options and not easy to use in the least.
2. music player - genre support is a big one for me
3. Sense - I use LauncherPro, but I prefer the sense contacts and other features.
4. I installed the 3D gallery from stock, so I have access to both. One other small benefit of the otherwise useless Sense gallery is a scrollable 'share' pop-up. On stock ROMs (or CM), if you have too many options in this menu, you can't scroll so you can't access them. Sense lets you scroll the 'share' list.

Not everything about miui is iphonish... and even the parts that are you have options.. the menus? I turn those to the standard grid. the icons? Not all are uniformed "squares" all thou the theme is use they are. But I actually am I fan of uniformed icons. I think it looks cleaner.. imho. What about miui looks annoying?? I admit the original launcher is lame. But I don't use it.. I think docks and notification bars are lame. I don't use either and rock adw.. swipe down for notifications and up for apps. plus you can't tell me miui lock screen isn't sexy..

Ive flashed a few sense 3.0 roms on my phone i ran kingdom rewind, shooter rewind, synergy, etc. main pet-peeve ive had with those are the lag with the rotating home screens. So i opted to a 2.1/3.0 sense (optimized shift) but it has a bug with auto-correct which changes the letter im typing (ex. when i type m it will show a j n change the letter to that) which is really annoying. I wanted to see wat 3.0 roms are other people using/ having success with, and mainly ones that run fast & smooth.
Incredibly RE-engineered3D runs without lag its still labeled beta but very stable Incredible Sensation and Community rom are both good as well. Wait for the new releases on the last two though
Incredible Sensation, Shooter Rewind, and Community are all very nice.

It is good though not a sense 3.0 rom. Its sense 2.1 with sense 3 elements such as lockscreen and weather. A full sense 3.0 rom has the 3d carousel.

I've tried them all and it really does come down to personal preference.
Try one until you decide on one you like. For me it's NilsP Business Gingersense 3.0. No lags, no issues, the guy always makes solid roms.

Synergy RLS1 has been the best rom I've found. My battery life is close to 2 days and its very fast for me.
But I agree, just figure out what you need to move/copy the important things between flashes and try a few until you find something that works/you like.

idky but whenever i flash synergy, when the phone starts up the locksreen doesnt show up for about 10-20+ mins. im using clockwork 3.0.0.8 i think thats what it is. ill just try community and the new pure shooter roms
Synergy is a 2.1 rom with a few apps
pulled from sense 3.0 roms, it doesn't compare to real sense 3.0 roms.

Ok., so Many New ROM's... which make's newbies get confused which is the best.
Best in term's of:
1.stability
2.design
3.compatibility
4.usability
5.user experience
6.support for new updates
7.user friendly
8.no bug's
9.Global mode
10.Battery life.
guy's pls. share your thoughts.... so I/YOU can decide. which is which
Thanks.
If you want sense try This one. It is by far my favorite sense rom as of right now. If you don't want sense OMFGB is the most stable, and fast non-sense rom I have used.
Ok, I'll bite
Best in term's of:
1.stability - Currently running Miui 1.8.19 Very stable. Unity also very stable for me.
2.design - Depends on if you want a Sense based rom or AOSP Rom... Unity for Sense was great. I love Miui for the customization's.
3.compatibility - So far I have been able to use any of the usual apps that I would run with the stock non rooted rom.
4.usability - Miui has been a very usable daily driver for me. MMS works, calls have no issues. Wifi works... Don't use BT so can't say on that.
5.user experience - very good
6.support for new updates - Haven't need to use this yet. But from what I have seen, the support on most of the roms we have available is good.
7.user friendly - I would say that the Sense based roms may be more user friendly to someone that has been using Sense based roms. Miui is pretty simple to get the hang of as well as the other AOSP (Cyanogen and others).
8.no bug's - only bug I have found in Miui, is the soft touch keys don't rotate when going to landscape mode. No biggie as I didn't expect them to.
9.Global mode - Haven't used this yet.
10.Battery life - Battery life has been great with both Unity and Miui. This could be due to the fact of the custom Kernals and being UV'd. Both have easily lasted all day under heavy use. I plug into the charger at night before going to bed, and generally have 40% battery left.
Hope this may help someone out
thanks ...I need more ideas so i can compare ,. keep it coming
I'm running CM7 Nightlies #48
1.stability - extremely stable so far. The only FC I get is when I first boot up ADW EX FC's, but I think it's because I'm impatient
2.design - I love the look of vanilla android. If you don't, or think it's boring, you won't like it. There are boat load of themes, though. And the great thing is all CM7 themes are compatible, regardless of which phone
3.compatibility - I haven't ran into any apps that I can't run
4.usability - very usable. Don't really know how to answer this
5.user experience - excellent, with all the customizable options
6.support for new updates - nightlies, lol
7.user friendly - I would say it is user friendly for anyone who is on XDA. Maybe not your average user, though
8.no bug's - none that I've ran into. Some complain about low volume in calls, but I don't experience that
9.Global mode - haven't tested
10.Battery life - excellent. I can easily get through a day
Edit: I should add that I haven't had a stock rom in god knows how long. So I am very used to little quirks here and there and don't even notice them anymore. Others may

As for omfgb the phone was broken when I tried it. Omgb was pretty much flawless. As of now I'm running the gingersense rooted stock with great results.

I ran OMFGB for a while, it performed well. I really like it because it is slimmed down AOSP but still has some nice features. Didn't seem to have much bugs, but nightlies can always produce bugs for people. OMGB 1.2 is the stable version of it.
Running Miui now because I wanted something different. Its performing well but it doesnt seem as quick OCd at 1.3 as OMFGB was OCd at 1.3 for me. The theme manager and customization in Miui though are awesome. Battery seems good so far.

Only bug I have ran into is that it wont install certain skins. Not really a big deal but could be a breaker for some people. I tried honeybread, glasssense, and one other cant remember and none of them worked. Carbon fiber one does though.
I VERY highly suggest ANY ROM posted by "newtoroot" he has four great and different ROMs. They each have a few bugs, it just depends on your taste as to if the things bother you. Some people can use it as a daily others can't.
ihftp69, release a preview ROM of his SkyRaider Zeus, and is, afaik completely bug free 2.1 Sense ROM experience with sense 3.0 components.
MIUI has been my daily driver for about 2 weeks now. Everything works (MMS, BT, Wifi, etc) and the themes are awesome. Very consistent with updates and has a great dev team. Haven't seen any FCs from the system apps. Also, battery life is great.

Have to echo this remark. Going on a week with MIUI and have had no issues outside of it resetting yesterday while playing around with the music player it came with. Battery is on par with stock, but having a pretty UI means I play with the phone a lot more .

I'm not sure what Launcher Puerto is, but you can run Launcher Pro it takes away some of the MIUI experience, but all the menu's and stuff are different. Quite a unique rom

I really like the OMFGB roms, very stable, everything works and its fast. I also like the MIUI rom. I really love that fact that I can use the torch from the home lock screen by pressing the home key! MIUI also has a great dev community as well. It's really a personal preference, but as far as performance, I like those two the best.
Here is another vote for MIUI. Great stable ROM.

If you want some sense 3.0 features, the SkyRaider Zeus beat them all in stability and functionality, haven't found any bugs yet. Virtuous Unity came in close 2nd if you can live with the compass being backward, it lag a bit during first startup, overall it doesn't feel as smooth as Zeus even at 1.3Ghz. Gingerbang 1.5 is my number 1 choice if I want something close to stock, very snappy even at stock speed and it gave me the best battery life even after i overclocked to 1.2Ghz.
I switch between GingerSense and MIUI with great results from both. Exchange nuances keep me coming back to Sense-based ROMs, but MIUI in terms of customization taunts me constantly.
Stability has been great on both as well as compatibility.
Hey everybody!
I just got my G2 yesterday (traded for my mytouch 4G) and I'm loving it. I already downgraded from 2.3.4 and rooted it. Now I'm looking for a good rom. I see some roms that I've used on my Mytouch 4g, but I want to know what the community favorites are. I'm going to flash any random one right now, but based on your suggestions I'll flash a keeper later (and eventually ICS Rom once Wifi and keyboard are fully fixed). Thanks!!!
MIUI, I'm on bulletproof, but looks like its not getting updated anymore, so you might want to go with miui osimood. also MIUI 4.0 (ics) is on the works, so i'm hoping to get that oneday. UI is quite heavily customized, like it or not, i use it.
Check out G-Lite: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1349030
It's fast and stable and battery life is amazing. Also works with TMO wifi calling which was a huge plus for me.
Don't be a fool! Stick with vanilla - all other roms I have ever use suffer from random issues that I constantly had to attend to.
Go with G-lite, it's fantastic. Great battery life, super super fast, great everything.
Im gonna check out g-lite. I've been having problems with every rom I've tried so far...hopefully not this one
You want FAST? Then meXdroidROM is your best bet. Really good ROM!

Sense UI is the best as per me, as it is complete in terms of everything, either dialer, message app, gps app, navigation app, social networking, etc.
It has everything and moreover its appearance is soothing to eyes.
The only drawback is that its resource consuming.
But as a solution to that, i used RomCleaner Script. It removes all the unnecessary bloatware from sense roms, however I use a custom cleaning list to leave back the skins and wallpapers and apps that I use.
Use that and If you are running upto sense 3.0 roms that would run smooth without lag even when you are playing 3D games.
However if you are going for sense 3.5 roms then you need to enable swap to have your phone lag free and smooth even when you are playing 3D games.
And following these steps will help you increase your battery life a lot.
I'm using Virtuous Affinity v1.48.0 being a sense fan, and i'm not encountering any lag ever even without overcloaking.
Hope that helps.

Almost vanilla but glite is the way to go, fast, stable, and awesome battery life!
I'm an obsessive rom tester and this is a summary of what I have found on the G2:
All sense roms: 2/4 features, 1/4 speed
G-lite: 1/4 features, 3/4 speed
Cyanogenmod 7: 3/4 features, 2/4 speed
MIUI.US: 3/4 features, 3/4 speed
ILWT with GoLauncher, ILWT kernel and daemon, OCed to 1.3 GHz: 4/4 features, 4/4 speed
ILWT takes a little bit of tweaking from default (done easily by changing a text file read on the installation of the rom), but out of every rom to grace the G2 forums, this is the only one I've been able to settle down with. Even with the default settings it is a really amazing rom, but with the right tweaks it blows everything else away in terms of speed and functionality.
Many of these roms I have not had a chance to try their most recent version, so I doubt this report has a high degree of accuracy. "Speed" is based on my personal observations and not measured by performance tools. "Features" are highly subjective and based on built-in function and customization.
(Admittedly, I've never tried meXdroidMod because the screenshots make me wish they sold eye bleach.)
Most if not all of the meXdroid eye candy can be turned off It's really really smooth and fast, never had any problems with it and awesome battery life
Good thread! I'd also like to know what everyone's using, as I've got a UK Desire Z that I put Virtuous Unity on, and after a month or so I'm coming away disapointed.
While Sense 3.0 is very nice looking, it's not as slick on the DZ and the ROM in general seems to lag, or totally freeze up too often...like just now, I unlocked the phone, then went to settings and I had to wait around 10 seconds for it go from a black screen with the status bar to actually letting me select the options within settings.
One of the biggest downsides though the lack of landscape in the home screen!
Does anyone know which ROMs actually support having a landscape home screen?
Hope this is the right place to make this question.
i've lurking this forums for quite sometime now, i've tried a lot of roms sense and AOSP... and in the last few days i've been using probably the most stable rom (liberation 3) besides a stock rom, but i still cant get used to sense 1.0 i just dont feel confortable using it, yes its incredibly fast, no lag ever, best battery life, but the UI just feels akward. im in love with sense 3.5 but not even with the latest gingertiny its fast enough for me, lots of lagging and sporadic FCs.
So my question is, wich rom (sense rom) dou you think would work for me, i would be confortable with a sense 3.0 rom or even a sense 2.0, but i need full functionality (720p recording, or at least 800 with no lag, camera saving to emmc, emmc mounting, wifi/3g drops) and faster and lees lag possible.
or should i try to get used to sense 1.0 again?

I recommend inc2 mctwist or optimized shift bother are sense 2.1. Both are about as stable as you're gonna get with a non stock based rom. Most sense 3.0+ Roms don't get any support anymore and bugs never got fixed. I personally use aosp (incdeck) but the incredible really can't handle anything above 2.1 sense
I can second inc2 mctwist. It seemed to be the fastest and most stable non stock sense based rom for me. Personally though I still prefer AOSP roms. Hope you find one that works for you!

I keep going back to the stock+ rom. All the features of the 3.0/3.5 roms are nice but the little bugs here and there bother me.
The bells and whistles are nice but they come at a price of poor battery life and lag due to our outdated hardware. I had good luck with Synergy which was a 2.1/3.x hybrid but is no longer supported. But I do always find myself going back to stock builds.
