List of known issues - confirmed on some phones - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Can we put together a list of known issues with this phone for those of us who are thinking of switching so we can see everything in one place instead of having to sort through all the mess to find the issues and resolutions. Thanks
This list is just a copy and paste of the main points listed in the first 5 pages so far to save you some reading. Its just a summary, nothing more.
- vertical lines on some models with specific box date
- dead red pixel on some models
- some models has odd camera flash light, when powering off
- occasional errors when playing media on the sd card
- battery has stayed stuck at "100%"
- WiFi settings shows connected to the correct network but keeps scanning (Power saving mode problem.)
- lock screen locks up me sometimes
- wouldn't stay powered down while charging
- it takes quiet some time to charge up
- it's always warm even when not it use, but it gets super hot when charging
- screen lock bug
- take a pic, then tap the gallery button in the camera app, share to facebook, will not upload, says cannot locate pic. go to regular gallery, upload pic same way and it works fine.
- issue with the display staying on
- games freezing up and crashing after about 5- 10 mins of game play
- trouble with data when connected to wifi.
- wifi works but the 4g will not get internet access.
- music player other than orginal makes all kind of funny things skipping ,play not play or stock
- rebooting

Same here, rebooted on its own after about 2 days of up time. No other issues besides that.

so, off all the stuff i've read in the forum thus far:
the list is something like this:
- vertical lines on some models with specific box date
- dead red pixel on some models
- some models has odd camera flash light, when powering off
lags and some apps performance, or network speed stuff doesn't count
anything else missing?

minor heads up
lets keep this topic only for confirmed issues.

One thing to add- occasional errors when playing media on the sd card. I'm having a hell of a time with Doggcatcher & some music players saying that the media cannot be read.

that's a good one
and it sounds very familiar, back in the SGS1 days, there was similar problem.
using another media player should avoid that problem

Yeah it works fine with PlayerPro, but I'm still trying to find another podcatcher that I like. I'm kinda pissed that I paid almost $7 for Doggcatcher & now it barely works >:|

So far my only issue is that the battery has stayed stuck at "100%" twice now (only had the phone for a week obviously). Both times it was in the morning after the phone had charged all night, and then I take it with me for school/work. I used it for a few hours at school and it stayed at a 100% so I took it by T-mobile and they hadn't seen that before.
They did the same thing I did which was remove the battery and restart the phone. After that it read correctly (around 76% or something). Still I don't want to have to pull my battery every day after it gets a full charge. I'm going to see what it does tomorrow in the morning and go from there....anyone else have this issue?

please report that bug directly to samsung on the stickied link

I can understand that the most embarrassing thing to do in public is a battery pull. I haven't done a battery pull since my blackberry days

Haha yeah I can deal with it from time to time maybe, but I don't wanna be doing every freaking morning haha

I also have the 100% battery bug. I don't have to pull the battery though, just doing a reset by power off/on works to clear it. It *is* kind of annoying though...

I have seen this as well. It happened the last two mornings after charging overnight.

I have same issue. keep showing 100% battery indicator.

Wow lots of people having isSue wiTh the 100% battery thing hopefully that getS sorteD soon.
Edit: I HATE typing on this freaking iPad sometimes!

I saw the battery stuck at 100% as well on mine. Another thing i noticed that i have the WiFi ON all the time. So while i'm in office it is connected to the WiFi and the phone sits in my pocket for about an hour or more before i actually use it (using another phone at work), so after i wanna use it and it shows the WiFi connected symbol but no connection. Go to WiFi settings and shows connected to the correct network but keeps scanning. Turn Off WiFi and turn it back ON and its running again. Although i did not noticed this issue at home. Is it that at home my phone is always on table and not in my pocket....is it something to do with my my pocket

Power saving mode problem. When activated, it turns off gps, wifi, blue tooth etc.. (Whatever you choose) at specified battery level. However, when power is recharged past the set power saving mode point it doesn't turn these features back on. So annoying.
So when fully recharged, you have to go back and manually re-enable your gps, wifi, screen brightness etc..
This seems like a software issue, do the other brand gs2's have this problem?
**Also have the 100% battery bug.

My Galaxy S II wouldn't stay powered down while charging. Everytime I turned the device off while charging it would automatically power back on. I honestly wasn't sure if that was simply the way the phone was designed (which would be odd), but sure enough at the T-Mobile store today we opened up a brand new Galaxy to see if it would remain 'off' while charging. Sure enough, it could.
Long story short, I have the 100% battery malfunction, and an "unable to charge turned off" issue. Swapping out phones at T-mobile as we speak Another GSII btw, even with these annoying issues its a great phone. I think (hope) I just got a lemon?

best setting for juice defender?

just got juice defender ultimate, as it seems to do a good job of making my battery last longer....but there are so many settings, i'm getting confused.
I basicaly just want the best settings that will disable all internet to save battery, except for once every hour when my i want the phone to run the "autosync" process to sync my facebook, twitter, emails etc. i alsao want it to obviously allow me to connect to the internet if i manually start an app which needs it (internet browser, facebook app, peep, etc).
at first, the app seemed to be doing this, but now i'm finding that although it's doing a great job of saving battery, it's not syncing, and my internet connection doesn't come on when i open an app. (or occasionally, it will come on, then not turn off again until i manually tell it to.....which defeats the whole point of having jhuice defender...i got it so that the phone would automate this process).
any help greatly appreciated...
totally given up on these battery saving apps now. they all seem to do the same thing...
they work exactly as they should for a couple of hours (i.e. they cut out internet except when syncing or when needed for an app etc)...then they suddenly jsut stop working, cause my internet connection to be lost completely, and i can't get it back until I reboot my phone (losing temp root i might add, so having to go through that whole process again too).
i think i'm going to just suck it up and charge the thing every day...i bought an "extended battery" which is supposedly 2430mah (around twice the stock battery), but it doesn't seem to give twice as much performance....it just seems to slow down the battery drain slightly for the first half of the cycle....
i.e. it lasts for around 2 hours without going below 90%, then within the next 2 hours it will drop to 70%, within the next 2 hours to 50%, the next to around 20%, then finally dying within the next 2.....
this is with syncing on, occcasional text or email checking etc.
so i'm getting around 10 hours use instead of around 7 or 8. it's better, but it's far from being twice the capacity.
but anyways, yeh, battery saving apps jsut seem to kill my internet requiring reboot, so i'm gonna just manually cut internet at various stages through the day from now on, and keep charging every night? sound like a plan?

ok, i'll give the free version a try...but i'm not holding out much hope, i've tried so many of these battery saver apps now, they al result in my internet connection being totally screwed up until i reboot the phone.
The default settings are pretty good. I don't think I changed much in the way of settings. Your phone will save a lot of power throughout the night with this.
thanks! finally, a battery saver that actually works!
been trialing this today and so far so good.
7 and a half hour shift at work today, it's been syncing every hour (which i know has been working, cos on my break i had tweets and emails waiting, and again when me shift ended)...sent a few texts in the morning, on lunch and after work too. so far it's down to around 83% battery....
The important thing is that it hasn't destroyed my internet connection (touch wood). It switches it off until i unlock the screen, except when it periodically turns on to allow the syncing. It also knows when I am at home and will use my wifi instead of mobile internet.
I'm going to keep trialing it for a few days to make sure it definately doesn't crash my internet after a while like the other programs seem to. So far so good though. If it keeps working, i'll buy premium for the night mode feature. Save even more battery that way.
thanks again, very happy
No problem. Glad it worked out for you.
Green Power is no longer working at night mode....switching WiFi and mobile networks works still, but it doesn't seem able to switch to airplane mode. This is only since I rooted, but I'm on stock Rom and this appears to be the only problem now.
::EDIT::
apparently, someone else on their forums have the same issue, and it's a known bug, something to do with green power being "paused" then "resumed". weird how it's never done it before though :s
have uninstalled it and reinstalled, so hopefully that will sort it out :S
::EDIT::
worked perfectly last night, so it must have been a one off glitch :s

How can I track down my battery drain?

Leaving my OP in place, but I have rewritten the description with much more detail and pics here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25401417#post25401417
I suggest skipping to there.
I am looking for general tips here. E.g., not asking you to diagnose my specific problem so much as give me ideas of what else to check or try.
Lately I have had unexplained (to me) battery drain. Yesterday I lost about 25 percent in an hour while the phone idled. It is not a constant thing, though. I can go an hour and loose 1 percent then loose massive amounts in the next hour.
Now, i have searched, but I have not found anything that applies to me.
I have:
Tried a different radio
Tried a different kernel
Reflashed my rom
Phone is entering deep sleep according to cpu spy
There are no unusual or excessive wake locks according to better battery stats
No apps are using a lot of battery.
I am in a low signal area at work, but putting the phone in airplane mode and dissabling background syn does not stop the drain.
Ideas?
might be your phone is loosing signal? i would check the battery stats in the settings menu to see if you have a poor mobile signal.

I do, and on reflection it is a possible culprit since I added it recently.
Didn't occur to me since it was producing no wakelocks and the battery stats did not showing as using much battery.
I shall turn it off for a bit and see if that helps. (unless there is some other way to test if it is the problem first.) I am off to the search button!

This is from yesterday when i set it down unused for about 90 minutes. The amount of wakes seems liek a lot, but it is similar to what i see when i have far far less drain, so I don't think that is the problem. I didn't get the app list screen, but out should screen as the only major drain with about 2 minutes.
I know it is shows poor signal strength, so immediately after that shot I put it in airplane mode, turned of sync, and rebooted. The battery continued to drain and graph had the exact same slope under those conditions. (Forget to get a pic though.)
Sent from my jitterbug using tapatalk.
System panel paid version with monitoring enabled is the best for tracking apps using CPU.
OK, still working on this.
To recap:
When the screen is off, and no apps are running I sometimes get inexplicable battery drain. This is occurring under conditions when I should be experiencing little or no drain at all. I say this becuase:
The screen is of and no bakground apps are running
the phone is NOT awake and IS entering deep sleep (as confirmed by cpuspy)
there are no unusual kernel or partial wake locks
there are no apps listed as using unexpected ammounts of battery
This is not a universal problem. The phone *often* behaves as expected. I can leave the phone off for an hour and see a 1% or 2% drain, and I am happy with that. However, sometimes, randomly, it goes nuts on my.
This graph from a few weeks ago shows what I mean. Look in the green box. The phone is sleeping, and the screen is off. The graph starts as a flatline, then, all of a sudden, it begins to drop precipitously.
Here is a graph that shows the battery dropping at the same rate whether the phone is awake or sleeping:
I have gone the following to try and narrow the problem down:
Done a completely fresh install of my Rom including a system wipe.
Tried two kernels (the aokp default and several relases of Franco's
Tried a different radio
Activated and installed a new sim card
I have come to suspect that the problem is network related. When the problem starts, sometimes going into airplane mode and back and/or toggling 2g only temporarily fixes the problem.
I suspect that something is happening with my connection to T-Mobile that keeps the network running and draining power. This is pure speculation, but it is all I can think of.
I installed juice defender (which I had not been previously running) and noticed the that, sometimes, it didn't turn of data when it should have. I also noticed the following two things happen:
I do not believe it is a rom problem, since if so, someone else would be reporting this. It might be an app problem, but if so the app is draining battery without a wake lock and while the phone is in deep sleep.
It is not exchange (as was suggested in this thread) since it continues when I ev my exchange account.
I have no idea what else to do or try.
Since it happens at random and takes a while to identify, uninstalling one app at a time to test for that could easily take months to narrow down a misbehaving app.
I know it is not a hardware issue since last month I got this:
That was with AOKP and Franco (earlier versions obviously)
I have google searched till my fingers bleed.
I am a long way form being an expert, and I suspect I may have overlooked something obvious.
Please, any thoughts??
Damn you definitely have a major issue and I don't know what it could be. But when my phone sleeps itstays dead flat with no awake bars, and drops 1% every 3 hours.
1. Calibrate battery
2. If you really wanna find the problem, install the rom with no mods or apps and run it and see if it still happens. Then add back each mod/app one at a time

While I appreciate your effort, this is remarkable unhelpful for the following reasons:
1. "calibrating" the battery is a myth and doesn't actually do something. Even if it did, it would not explain the symptoms I have described. I have been around xda long enough to know it is the knee-jerk reaction to any battery question, but it is not relevant here.
2. Since the problem occurs at random, and sometimes takes hours to show up, (For instance, last night I charged to full and tried to catch it happening. For 4 hours nothing happened, it behaved perfectly. Then I went to bed and it immediately started to fall and was dead by morning) and since I have over 100 apps, your suggestion could easily take *over a year* to follow. Believe me, I have thought about it, but I started this thread hoping for ideas that would allow me to avoid it.
Here is that chart for last night.
I had about 1 hour and 30 minutes screen on time with 65% left when I went to bed. When I woke up, phone was dead.

Mine often does that. But sometimes it doesn't. It is the fact that it happens seemingly at random that makes it so annoying and hard to track down.
I would replace the battery
One thing you haven't rulled out is that the battery itself is bad.
Have a friend you could swap with for a day, or at least long enough to see if the problem follows? If your battery drops on their phone that is also a good indication.

The thought has occurred to me, but unfortunately, no, I don't have a friend I can swap with. And really, since I have had the phone less than 3 months, the battery *shouldn't* be bad, but yeah, defective products happen.
If I cannot find any other cause I will likely order a new battery and see if that fixes it.

1. yes battery calibration does make a difference.
2. ok, so an app can't run a process at random? especially when you have "over 100 apps"? Run the rom stock and see if it still happens, or even run the stock rom/kernel. if you don't want to try this then why are you asking for suggestions? christ

We'll of course it can. That is kinda my point. If I go one app at a time waiting for it to "run a process at random" I am talking literally MONTHS of testing. I would have to wait many hours, if not days after installing or uninstalling an app to be sure whether or not it made a difference, then move on the the next. This is simply not an option. I started this thread in hopes that a realistic and doable solution might exist that I was unaware of.

I am asking because there may be a solution that I am unaware of that doesn't require me to put my entire life on hold for months. It is possible that there is no such solution, but I asked in case there was one.
Sorry to have put you out so much.
You mentioned you recently installed exchange sync. Did turning off sync remedy this or have you not tried disabling all sync features?
One other thing to check is the background data usage of your apps. You'd find this under 'data usage' and make sure you enable the wifi tab so you can see data usage on wifi.

[Q] HTC One X MaximusHD 21.1-Some apps have problems with connecting when using WiFi

So today I've installed latest MaximusHD rom for HTC One X, and everything is super fine, except for one thing - when I'm trying to connect to my Skydrive (using official app) while on Wi-Fi I just can't do it. After awhile it just says that I should check if I have a connection. The problem does not occur when I switch to Data Transmission. Other apps usually are able to connect but it seems slower than when using Data Transmision.
I have installed the WiFi update, and when using Google Play, or browsing the internet it seems to work just fine... I also switched from Superuser to SuperSU, but the problem occured before that so I don't think it had anything to do with that (noob question - which should I use? Superuser was there by default, but is ist actually better, or there is no big difference?)
Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the app?

I tried, it's still very slow.
Other odd thing is that when I turn on Data Transmission it's always showing the "H" symbol, even in the places where it previously showed "3G" or "3.5G", now it never switches. What does it mean? The speed seems fine though.
This happened to me too. And it's happening to YouTube and google play.
Could it be because I didn't do the OTA update?
In that case i have a little question: if I update the OTA do I/will it wipe all data?

Well I did the OTA update almost right away (after intalling few apps), and I saw the problem after that, so I don't think it has anything to do with that although it's suppose to fix WiFi. Oh and it didn't wipe my data.
EDIT:
Well I can't post in MaximusHD thread yet so I'll ask here, does everyone using this rom experience such a tremendous drop in battery life when using Data Transmission? On WiFi it's normal, but when using cellular it drains 5-10% in 10 minutes... That seems absurd.
bump. Seriously? Anyone knows if this problem with power drain when using cellular data transmission is also present in other clean Sense 5 Roms? Or is there a way to fix that, or maybe there is an update underway?
I just switched ROMs but was getting a full days use out of a charge. WiFi at work and home all day. So I never really used hspda.

Yes! It does this for me too. It seems to drain at something like 1% per minute for me when I have mobile data on. Wifi also drains it quickly, but not as fast. I posted about this in the Maximus thread (some other issues too) but nobody has replied. Good to know it's not just me.

Yep, hopefully there is going to be some kind of fix, I really wouldn't like to go through the whole configuration, app instalation, etc. process again.
Ok, so another thing is - some icons in one of the folders on my home screen disapear. It's always in the same folder, and only in this one, others seem to be unaffected.

Issues I'm having:
1. Crazy battery drain when I enable wifi, but particularly bad when I enable mobile data. I have a Tasker profile where if I enable wifi and connect to my home network, autosync and GPS are enabled for 2 minutes then disable themselves. Last night my phone was on 61%, I enabled wifi, and immediately it dropped to 56%.
2. When I go to bed at night I turn my phone off. If I put it on charge at night it gets to a certain point and the phone switches itself on! One night last week it switched itself on at about 89%, so I switched it off again, and about ten minutes later it switched itself on again!
3. I use Google Calendar, not the HTC one. I seem to be unable to disable the HTC calendar - the only option is to "freeze" it in my backup app.
Aside from these things, I really like the rom, but these three issues are making me wonder if I should try something like ARHD and see if the same things are present there.

Well I don't know how it is with the phone turning itself on, because I'm not turning it off to begin with.
The thing with calendar - it seems to me it was also like that when using official Sense 4+, so I don't know if it's fixable.
I think I'm going to switch to ViperX Sense 5 Rom, people seem to say good things about battery life in this one.

Yes, I know some people think the idea of switching a phone off is somehow weird, but I turn mine off at night. As an experiment I just switched my phone off here in work, plugged it in to charge it (it was on about 93% - charged overnight and it has lost 7% since I switched it on when I got up for work at 5.30) and lo and behold it powered itself on when it reached 100%. I don't want this to happen.
The calendar on Sense 4 could be disabled - I know this as I had it disabled! I prefer the Google calendar, so I disabled the HTC one. On this ROM you can only hide it, or backup apps allow it to be frozen, which is what I've had to resort to.

Well then since nobody seems to know what to do in our instance, and I have no idea if there is some kind of update for MaximusHD underway, we propably will have to switch the Roms. I usually had the mobile Data Transmission turned on all the time when outside my apartment and while it did drain the battery more than WiFi it still was enough for 8+ hours of being on with medium usage (sometimes with battery saver option ticked when I needed to be outside for a longer period of time). Now the phone would be dead after few hours.
EDIT:
Today I switched for ViperX Rom, and all of the issues I wrote about seem to be gone, Skydrive app no longer has any issues with connecting. Although I'll say something more about batery life in 2-3 days when I'll actually have a chance to see how it works. In general I can say that this ROM is a lot more customizable, and has lots of tweaks (greeat ones) I haven't seen in Maximus, but still I'll wait for a few days with my final opinion.
Ok so after using it for a few days I can tell that the ROM itself is just better in sheer terms of funcionality. First thing I noticed is that I can now put more than 16 shortcuts into Folders, the icon grid in app panel is 5x6 so now I have 3 pages to scroll instead of 7. WiFi seems work more stable but I can't say that it worked bad in MaximusHD. When it comes to battery drain while using Data Transmission - it's still there, but after a few cycles of charging it seems to get better bit by bit, if it still changes I'll let You know. ROM comes with lots of additional tools, and allows heavy customization, and reclocking the processor for better battery life. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I don't know what about the phone turning itself on, because I don't switch it off. In terms of the callendar I also use gogle one and I just turned of sync options in the one provided by htc. Also I'm not sure if while installing the rom You are able to choose not to install the HTC callendar.

I've gone back to my old Orange-branded 4.1.1 / Sense 4+ build. Battery life has gone through the roof, HTC calendar is disabled, everything works, no problems. As for the phone powering itself on, well, something odd happened there...
When I decided to go back to the old build I restored my Nandroid backup and reflashed my old boot.img, taking the phone back to its old setup, and all seemed well, but that night I switched it off at bedtime (still find it weird that so many people think I'm freakishly odd for daring to switch my phone off from time to time) and lo and behold, some time later, it switched itself on again! The next morning I did some searching about removing the Clockworkmod recovery, followed the instructions, and also relocked my bootloader for good measure, and guess what? Since then it hasn't powered itself on while charging. So all I can gather from this is it was either Clockworkmod or having an unlocked bootloader that caused my phone to power itself on, because as soon as these two things were changed it has behaved normally.
So anyway, I'm going to stay on this build until Orange get around to releasing 4.2, or my contract expires in April, whichever comes first. Probably the latter, as according to a post I've seen from Orange themselves they reckon the update will appear 3-6 MONTHS after the manufacturer releases it.

Heh I'm alson in Orange (poland), and we got info that the update will show up sometime mid-december. I just got tired of waiting for them to update that's why I ended up with custom roms.
Maybe it was CM fault? I'm using TWRP, tonight I'll turn it off and see if it powers back itself during the night and let you know.

Odd Problem with SGHi257M

The problem is that the phone will not ring for either incoming or outgoing calls. Someone phoning me gets no rings, it goes immediately to voice mail. When i try to call out the screen looks perfectly normal - all of the correct icons are showing up so it looks like it is ringing, but it is not ringing either at my phone or at the person i am calling.
The problem is cured by restarting the phone. Only after i restart the phone do i get notification about any messages that were left.
This happens only when the battery is at about 40%, but not always - just occasionally and rarely. It happened today for the first time in a few months; it also happened a few times, a few months ago.
I would think that at 40% battery there should be no battery charge related problems? 40% should be plenty to run the phone?
Any ideas? I am going to return it to the store and ask about this, but i would like to have some more info to go on, if any is available.
TIA,
Mick

Update: It may very well be happening more often than i thought. I do not get a lot of calls, certainly not every day, so it could be quite consistent and i may not have noticed. For the next while i'll let it run down every other day and check.
It happened today. I just decided arbitrarily to check. Battery at ~35%. I phoned to check if i had any messages. Everything looked normal as i said in my original post, but it did not ring and did not connect.
Before re-starting i checked to see if Mobile Data was working. It was not. After re-start both Mobile Data and the Phone were working.
I am wondering what is the technical significance to the Phone problem of the Mobile Data also not working? They must be somehow related in the hardware or software structure of the phone.
I got my phone back today. On the report it says ...
Complaint
#1[]C56-no service
phone antenna cutting out intermittently
Symptom code C56
Work performed
[202]-Full sw upgrade & phone reset
;sw re-flashed then rebuild to factory default
Repair code 202
I'll see if it happens again or not over the next few days and report back. To me it sounds like they did nothing to the physical components of the phone, just flashed/installed/configured the various software components.
Mick
Here we are, exactly one week later, and the phone failed in exactly the same way. So the "repair" process they applied did not work. I'll be returning it to the Rogers store today and will report back here with the results.
I may have the solution to this problem of network drops now, finally. I took it back to the Rogers store where i bought it. This time there was a more knowledgeable guy there. He took one look at the screen and said "I know exactly what is the problem". What he noticed was that the LTE notification was not showing. This city is an LTE hot spot. The phone should connect with LTE virtually anywhere, anytime. He said it is not the phone at all, but that there is a "switch" that needs to be reset for my account; something to do with the SIM card. After a couple of phone calls he returned the phone and said that it is fixed.
Time will tell. I'll post again.
Mick
False alarm. The fix made it worse. Now it not only drops network connections, but also drains 50% of the battery over the course of one day with very little use. Used to drain 20%.
Mick
Just reporting that the so-called knowledgeable guy was incorrect. Still dropping the networks. I went back and he was incorrect again as he believed that you had to have Mobile Data enabled to make/receive calls. Oh well, he was doing his best. Got thru today so far with no dropouts, and battery drain returned to normal ~20% loss for the day. Will see what happens overnight and tomorrow.
Getting kind of tired of having an unreliable device. Hope this gets settled soon. I'll be back to him as soon as it drops out again.
Mick
I really do wish some of the more technical guys on this forum would take an interest in this perplexing problem.
Here is a summary of this problem and of the work done by the official repair center, the results, and finally at the end a couple of questions ...
Here is a description of the technical problem with the phone ...
1. The phone will work normally for an indeterminate time period, perhaps a few hours or maybe a week or so. Then it will malfunction as follows -
2. Signal strength is tiny. The phone will not ring for either incoming or outgoing calls. Someone phoning me gets no rings, it goes immediately to voice mail. When i try to call out the screen looks perfectly normal - it visually appears to be calling as the active icon is on the screen and the message says "dialing". There is no dialing sound. It never connects, it eventually gives up.
3. Mobile Data is not working. With Mobile Data enabled there is no icon on the notification bar. Google search and PlayStore do not run.
4. Wi-Fi is working. The icon is on the notification bar when it is enabled. Google Search and PlayStore work with Wi-Fi.
5. The problem is temporarily cured by restarting the phone. Only after i restart the phone do i get notification about any messages that were left. Then eventually the problem re-occurs.
When i sent phone back the first time this is what they did ...
[202]-Full sw upgrade & phone reset
;sw re-flashed then rebuild to factory default
When i sent it back the second time this is what they did ...
[051]-No trouble found
;RF Calibration performed to enhance RX/TX performance and network connectivity. Passed RF compliance test to meet manufacturer soecifications. Adjusted battery level to optimize power usage
When i sent it back the third time they did exactly the same as the second time. The phone is now working better as i will explain, but it has not been long enough to confirm if the real problem is solved.
I have set up the CleanMaster [CM] and BatteryDoctor [BD] Apps. I have turned off any automatic options in both. I make only light use of the phone - a few calls per day, maybe one Google search, nothing else. I run the 1 Tap Boost CM Widget and the Save Power BD Widget after each use of the phone.
I also have installed NoWallpaper [saves a wee bit of battery power], SmoothCalendar [very nice and very useful] and one of the Clock Apps [with a useful 1 x 2 Widget].
I have not yet disabled the 50+ Apps that CleanMaster reports as harmless to disable as my phone is still under warranty and has this issue that the service people have not yet been able to resolve. But i will be doing that and i highly recommend it to others.
I have had the phone back from the 3rd repair for 6 days now. I am leaving it powered on overnight. At the end of the first day battery = 89%, second day 74%, 3rd day 55%, 4th day 46%, 5th day 31%. That is 5 days of light use. Was 23% this morning so i re-charged it to 100%. I'm happy with 5 days of light use.
I do not have written notes on the previous battery performance. But from memory it used more than 20% the first day, at least an additional 30% the second day. There was not enough to trust it for the third day as it lost more overnight. I was running BD and CM, using the CM Widget but not the BD Widget.
I am wondering when the phone will fail again. I'll post again when that happens as i feel certain that it will. But i secretly hope it will not
So, finally, here are my two questions ...
What is the actual, presumably hardware, problem with the phone that they are not able to find?
What did they do to improve the battery performance so dramatically? Did they for example lower the CPU clock rate?

Based upon your post, should my daughter stay away from this phone. She has a G2 right now.

I have posted about this problem on four S4 mini forums and on one S forum. No one has ever seen or heard of this problem. It is clear that my phone is the only one with this problem.

Thanks fort the response, i told her not to get the phone.
Well, it gets worse. The phone messed up today same as before. A bit more than two weeks after the "repair". I was at home in one of the strongest signal areas. Would not receive or make calls or use mobile data. So back to the Rogers store. By the time i got there it had started working again so i could not demonstrate the problem. Also used a lot of battery power today, about 40% with light usage compared to 15% or less per day for the past two weeks.
What the counter guy at the Rogers store said is that there is nothing wrong with the phone, that all cell phones do this, and that i should adjust my expectations.
Here's another ConnectionChecker app. This one attempts to reconnect ...

[Q] Reboot problem when not charging

I have had my P607T for a couple of months now. It is box stock no changes. Over the last few weeks I have noticed that it will reboot while using various apps. (Fliipboard, Chrome, Clash of Clans, Papyrus...) They don't seem to all be heavy graphics or network. The only symptom is that the screen starts to flash then "bang" reboot (and trouble rebooting when not plugged in). It would not be too annoying except that it will loose wifi settings and the wallpaper. I have tried different wallpapers (saw a thread blaming the live wallpapers ) Unloaded some apps (had another phone issue with FitBit and HTC blink on my N4). I stay away from CoC (my base has been raided so often now ...). Any thoughts? I am really trying to like this tablet more than my old ASUS Transformer but this reboot and reset wifi is a pain.
Thanks in Advance,
marka

Have you tried a factory reset? I'd make tmobile replace it
was hoping to avoid the reset button. Tried it and still giving trouble it rebooted while restoring apps. I bought the tablet on ebay, I don't think TMO will take it back. oh well I'll keep poking about.
thanks,
I experience exactly the same problem since the update to 4.4.2 (kitkat): The screen starts to flash, suddenly the tablet reboots. I tried a factory reset multiple times, also removed the SD card and reflashed the ROM via KIES, nothing helped so far. Also, even when plugged into the outlet for several hours the tablet didn't charge at all (I think it stopped charging when the screen saver kicks in).
A couple of weeks ago I filed a RMA request (my dealer sent the tablet to Samsung), yesterday I got it back. It was charged at 60% and when I plugged it to the outlet it actually charged (even when the screen went off). But after about one hour (the battery was still > 60%) the flashing reappeared and after a while the tablet started to reboot again. Interestingly the battery now showed only 2% and the low battery warning appeared.
I think the problem might occur only when the battery runs low (which happens very fast as something seems to drain the battery), while android still shows a much higher battery level . Never experienced these problems when the tablet was plugged in so far.

At least I don't feel so alone with this issue... I have been paying more attention to my build up process since the factory reset. I found, the other night quite by accident, that when I logged in to Twitter the reboot started. So for the next few days I have left Twitter off the machine and it is doing better. I suspect that something is hitting the power drain (like you mention) and that causes it to have problems. In that thought I have also turned off the power saving mode and auto screen now just to add to the list of things I am avoiding.

Have you considered rooting and using root apps to stop the apps from being able to do such things?
