My proximity sensor is busted. I sent my phone to someone here on the forums to get unbricked and they tore the ribbon cable going to the proximity sensor a tiny bit so now my phone does crazy **** when trying to make or receive calls.
I saw one on Ebay but I figured there is a cheaper sensor somewhere or maybe someone has one in a broke ass phone.
I would just pick up the one from e-bay. GloabalDirect probably has them, but they will not sell to individuals.

So basically I have gone through a lot with this phone.
I flashed it to boost mobile, the screen then cracked. Bought a new digitizer, broke the frame, bought a new frame with digitizer, and then broke the LCD Strip, so bought a new LCD.
Now the digitizer is dirty on the inside **REALLY DIRTY** i think the glue or something spread around it i dont know. Or it could been me when I wiped it with Windex.
Now also the headpiece (i dont know what to call it, but from where you listen in a call) does not work. Speaker and headphone jack work.
So basically my question is, should I buy another digitizer and fix it? And how will I fix the headpiece?
Or should I just buy another Incredible?

I just forgot to attach the earpiece to the new frame
All fixed!!
Although I want a new digitizer.
So I bought a brand new Xperia Play from eBay. I assume that it is covered under warranty.
However, the other week I dropped the phone. The LCD Screen is not completely cracked! What is disgraceful is that the drop was not even from a high height! Such a brittle piece of plastic!!
The strange thing is, although the phone still works, it seems to run a little bit more sluggish. I'm not sure. The BIG problem is, when I begin a call, my screen turns black, and once the call is finished, the screen won't turn back on again (Even though I can hear sounds through the speakers). If I press the lock button quick enough before ending a call the screen sometimes turns back on.
I was thinking about buying a new LCD screen from ebay for £20, however I'm afraid that it won't fix the 'screen turning off during a call' problem.
What would be the best way to get this phone repaired?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Maybe you damaged the light sensor on the screen?

Maybe you damaged the proximity sensor?
If the proximity or light sensor was damaged, how would this make the screen switch off during a call, not turning on again?
Does anyone know the best route to get this repaired?

Replace the front glass. Maybe you didn't destroy the proximity, but just damaged it to behave in that way. Also, broken glass is also maybe affecting it.
Thanks, I'm going to buy a new screen then. God knows how long it will take to ship, but I will keep you guys updated with pictures as soon as progress is made.
Mine was doing exactly the same thing after shattering the glass. The proximity sensor could not see through the cracks and the IR light would refract back in as if it were against my face. It behaved strangely where sometimes opening the slider would snap it out and other times it would not. Replacing the glass/digitizer did the trick. The only problem was that no replacement parts on eBay include the adhesive gasket and the old one is likely ruined with stuck-on glass shards. I pulled off as much as I could and reused it but me touchscreen doesn't stick all the way down sometimes. I ordered a dummy phone to see if I could salvage it from one.

The screen is designed to switch off during a call if it detects you face next to the screen (proximity sensor) if it is damaged and reporting wrong info to android. That is why the screen switches off during call.

The sensor is fine. The glass covering it is not.
This might be useful to others experiencing the same issue.
It began with the screen turning off whenever the dialer or skype has connected. A frustrating experience for the wife as she was traveling overseas. I thought it was a ROM install issue until it dawned on me it could be the proximity sensor. True enough, sensor apps reported nothing from neither the light sensor nor the proximity sensor, though front camera worked fine.
I swapped it with one from a spare toroplus, and it worked. On the toroplus, the bad one still didn't work confirming it's defective. It's interesting that the front camera on the same accessory board had no issue at all. Oh well, a replacement is a few bucks from ebay.
Regarding the assembly/disassembly: it's very simple. Remove all visible screws under the battery cover, then insert a plastic prying tool between the glass and the case, then work the case off. Once the back cover is off, the main board could come off after disconnecting the various micro connectors.
My impression was that the toroplus main board was much easier to remove because the connections to the power/volume switches are simple snap-on. On the maguro, the connector to the power switch is finicky. After accidentally detaching it and seeing it was quite brittle, I put it back on and left it attached as I was able to push up the lock of the front camera board connector with a small flat head screwdriver.
Very cool... but this thread is worthless without pics!
Pics, or it didn't happen.
Could someone explain to me how the hardware in the m8 works for NFC. Like what would cause NFC to not be able to get enabled after taking apart the phone.

I took the phone apart and replaced the main camera module, the battery, and the microusb board.
In the process I broke off the copper piece at the top of the phone that touches the case. That piece is used for the GPS and the compass, so now I can't get a GPS lock nor does the compass move.
I don't think that the NFC is controlled by that piece and even if it were I think NFC would be able to turn on but not work. I've checked all the wires and they appear to be plugged in... I think

So look at your rear housing. You'll see the NFC patch around where the main camera peeks through. There are a few copper contacts, which should line up with their counterparts on your mainboard. When I ordered a replacement rear housing, it came without the NFC patch, so I grafted it from my old rear housing. I never managed to get it to make contact, so my NFC doesn't work anymore. I wonder if anyone figured out a way to do this.

How does NFC function on yours though, does it try to turn on but goes back to the off position?
There has to be an answer somewhere.....

That's exactly how it currently is.
A solution would probably be taping the NFC patch onto the motherboard, and letting the sticky bit find its place on the housing once you seal the device. The difficult part is doing this while ensuring the power button is in place (they always fall out of place during reassembly), and not smudging your camera lens.
I might try this if I do another housing replacement. For now, dis-assembly is a hassle that I don't really need and NFC is something I can live without. I also don't have a spare housing or front panels to use if something gets dented during dis-assembly, so I'm not going down that road for now.
If you do try the above, please let me know what happens.
Cheers.
I know this is a long shot but here goes. I got a 2nd hand nexus 5x but the proximity sensor does not work. It shows 0 cm on the AIDA64 app. After researching online it seems there's a piece of foam/gasket that covers the hole on the display/lcd whatever its called. It is missing on mine. Most likely the screen was replaced at the time and the new screens don't have this apparently. I even bought a new screen/digitizer on ebay but no foam. Does anyone know of a workaround for this or how I can make/buy a piece of foam this tiny? I'm not even positive this is the problem. I'm also not sure how a piece of foam would prevent the sensor from working.
