Is that just for one line or if ypu have a family plan and get the 5g will it go for both lines
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
well seeing as how there is currently no shared data plan for family plans atm, it will probably be per line, not per family account.
The majority of people use 2gb of data so that's $30. Right now data cost 30$ so this won't affect the majority. Power users use more than 2 using anywhere from 5-10gb so these power users have to pay extra because Verizon loves money. I use 6gb and sometimes 8gb so ill worry about this when I grab my Droid Incredible 3

This tired plan really should be renamed to "lower caps and more money plans"..... I'm not entirely sure how on earth anyone could think this is good for the end users.
Wait ... can someone please tell me if I'm on a family plan with 3 Smart phones (my Inc2, and 2 Droid Charges) with the unlimited data, when we upgrade or renew our contract, do we get to keep our unlimited data? Or is it unclear to everyone at this moment?
If you renew your contract, you are no longer grandfathered as you are agreeing to new terms. If you have current data plans with no intention to change/renew in the near future, you are covered with unlimited data. If you buy your device at retail without renewing your contract, your contract should remain the same.
More than likely if you have an unlimited plan, you will eventually start being harassed by Verizon to renew, upgrade, or do something else that will cause contract changes on your part to switch you to a limited data plan.
I am a power user. I have used upwards to 8gb in a month on 3G. Capping at a max of $10 for an ungodly amount per month is unacceptable. This would be too easy to break on 4G and I think that is their intention.
Sprint is pretty proud of their unlimited plans. If Verizon doesn't see the light before it comes time for me to renew again, I may forego my discount and move to Sprint if Sprint continues down the path of unlimited.
Nim dude this man be the first time ive ever seen that u were misled or misinformed about something. I too have a family plan set up (5 devices, 4 of which are smartphones) all unltd data and a 1400 min plan, and i have been told time and time again even after the recent purchase of my Inc 2 and my inlaws Charges' im continously told im fine, im grandfathered in.
I really havent seen any flux in my bill if anything i was actually quite surprised with my monthly after the dust settled.
EDIT:
I should also mention that i have a corporate acct, not a regular user acct.

I'm not misinformed. If you upgrade using their upgrade option, you are also renewing your contract. Renewing your contract means new contract terms should your current contract no longer be available/valid. This means upgrading after the 7th would mean you lose unlimited data. This is why people are rushing to get their upgrades in, so they can be grandfathered in.

well the month to month is being abolished, that's a given. it was a marketing move to reel in more business. Once the contracts are established they were given quazy deals to move from month to month to contractual.

i just called into their corporate accounts customer service and asked all about the how to of upgrading my current min/data plan come the end of July.
the rep verbatim said "there is no change that would take affect to my account when upgrading either. She said if necessary they can actually help me by giving me some extra min's if infact i am running low on my current set to hold me over till my next billing cycle".
"but as far as upgrading there are no extra fee's nor changes in packages coming any time soon, that she is aware of".
"so when the time comes in July to simply call and make the upgrade and go ahead and do so".
I talked to some Verizon employees and they all told me that whenever I renew my contract/upgrade with Verizon, I'll still be grandfathered in with the unlimited data, I'll try asking a different store if people have heard different.
I just called last thursday, and I was asking about canceling. I was really thinking about going to another carrier, I was interested in getting a Nexus S. I wasn't eligible yet for an upgrade, but they gave me an early one which was great. But I was talking to the guy, and his argument to stay was unlimited data, I said that tiered data was going to happen for them as well. He said he nothing of this, hadn't heard anything at all.
So now this, but who knows maybe they leave their employess in the dark. And maybe they dont read up regularly on engadet and droid-life like I do.
But they really need to get the prices down a bit. Tmobile you can get 500mins, unlimited text and 5gb of data for 79.99, The same thing on verizon would now be like over $100 I could be a bit off, but this could hurt them in the future.

When Verizon started throttling the unlimited data they sold me, I canceled and switched to Sprint. After a lot of fighting, I got the etf waived and they sent me a refund check. The check bounced lol! Seriously, they are blaming a glitch in their system.
Should I send them a bill for a bad check? I know if I write a bad check I get fees out the butt.

The standard would be to send them a copy of whatever letter you get from your bank or your bank statement showing what your bank charged you. They should be expected to reimburse you for that, and nothing more. Unlike them, you don't have a TOS that they signed to do business with you that set a predetermined bounce fee, so all you can expect is your out-of-pocket expenses. But you can DEFINITELY expect that much.

I got out my Verizon contract back in 09 due to network coverage issues...it's part of the "Worry Free Guarantee"..Yet they tried to bill me for data usage and cell usage that I never used...even the last bill I got from them had no data usage or min usage. To top it off they wanted me, yes me...to spend $250 for the Network Extender that they sell...I was like...seriously...because your network coverage sucks so bad in my area, you want me to pay you $250 to use on my broadband connection, plus my $250 monthly phone bill...That is the reason I went to Sprint...2 days after getting new service with them they sent me a "free" Airave without fuss...I will never go back to Verizon...even if they paid my bill for the rest of my life...they have a huge head about being the best network and largest...yet they are the love to nickle and dime you to death on data packages, minutes, and add-ons.

+100 to that brother. I left Tmobile for the same reasons.
http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/85024
and per my sprint portal etc etc..
"Starting with your February invoice, Sprint will now separate the primary line from the secondary line for all Family and Business Share plans. Your plan and its features will not change. While Sprint continues to be the value leader, we must make changes on occasion to deliver what matters most to our customers. Sprint will no longer offer the service discount on secondary lines for Family and Business Share plans. However, the primary line on your account will continue to receive the service discount."
Family plan, 2 lines, etc
Joined Sprint in January (left verizon because of all their dicking around with fees and nickel and diming of data) and I've been pretty happy so far, but seems a bit odd that contract shenanigans are happening already.
They also called and left a message to call back regarding this, but I'm hesitant until I know exactly what their talking about. I'm expecting they'll give the usual corporate double talk and because I called, I'll have then indicated I accepted the new terms leaving me with no recourse while having no clue what this is about.
Any insight?
I talked to a few folks about this. You can cancel because of this, and the ETF will be waived. Or you can stick it out. Its only a $5/month increase. But I hear ya, I don't like it either.
I have 3 lines, and Sprint is still about $40 a month cheaper than similar plans on Verizon.
Could one pull one over on sprint and leave due to the changes with no ETF, then resign for discounted new phones? I already have the phones I want, but it seems like twice a year or so Sprint gives us an easy out. There must be something in the fine print, I'm sure I'm not the first to think of this.

Yes, but you will lose your number. I am rather sure this is possible though.
I believe you have to be gone for a year for them to consider you a new customer.
Not a year. I asked about this when I was on My 4th evo3d and was pissed they wouldn't do a multiple defect replacement. You have to be gone for 6 months. On the same call though the guy said a minimum of 45 days. So not sure what its worth. And you can't keep your number

There's a waiting period before you can resign if you leave or are terminated. I think somewhere 30-90 days.
And you lose your number but you can avoid that by transferring it to a trac phone or something.

Could always flash to Boost Mobile or MetroPCS in the meantime if the Sprint coverage is good in your area. Those are on a strict month-by-month basis, so there's nothing stopping you from going to them until the time limit's up and going back to Sprint.
I tested this etf free thing and they said it didn't affect my contract because it stated on my January bill that the discoint policy was changing.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
just to add to this, if you have a discount on your acct., sprint is now only going to take that discount off the first line ONLY, so be sure to watch that and maybe make a fuss so they take it off the whole acct ( retension dept can do so )
Honestly this topic has been beaten to death. I think this is the 3rd thread. As the kind of user most of us on xda are, I am surprised you signed up in January and didn't know this. That said, it's 5 bucks. I think it'd be crazy to leave if you're happy with the coverage over 5 bucks.

For an example, here's how the recalculation works:
Discount percentage: 23% (most common percentage I've seen in my area)
Old plan: Everything Data Share 1500 $129.99 for 2 lines.
New plan: Everything Data Share 1500 $109.99 for 1 line, 2-5 +$20.
So the new calculation is 23% x $109.99 instead of 23% x $129.99. Your price plan isn't changing, just the calculation of the discount. We've had a couple customers complain about this and it's really stupid some of the arguments we've heard.

Damn internet - I hate it when the SEARCH feature doesn't work....LOL
[I win after all after a call to retention][see further down for new developments] Each month I get my data throttled, I have to spend an hour or so on the phone until they'll open a service request ticket for some upper level honcho to press a button and clear up the problem in 5 minutes.
This time I upgraded my data plan to 10GB, but the throttle would not release. After the hour of my dealing with script following drones, a higher level support tech asked me what kind of phone I had. When I replied Galaxy Nexus, she gleefully replied that "our contract with you states we don't have to support 3G for you since you didn't buy one of our [crappy over priced phones] from us. In fact, I'm supposed to disable your 3G service. Even if you have a iPhone 4S." (Um... WHAT? iPhone? Now you're just trying to insult me.)
Just when I thought all hope was lost, my mobile muse rescued me with divine inspiration. "Oh really?" I smirked, "I just stuck my SIM card in my wife's T-Mobile Sensation™ and I'm still getting throttled. Can you support me now, biatch?"*
...
"Why yes sir, I'll be happy to open up that ticket right away... Let us know when service is actually restored and we'll comp you for the throttled coverage."
LAWYERED!
* DISCLAIMER: I did not actually say biatch

I got the usual, "Your service request will be processed within the next 3 business days" reply. Apparently when I upgraded, they failed to remove the 5GB red flag on my account. Generally, my service requests go through the first business day. As I called on Saturday, I expect they'll get to it today... At least that's what usually happens.
Incidentally, they let me upgrade to 10GB for $40/month for three months, and threw in T-Mobile hot spots (whatever those are). It took me three phone calls of hemming and hawing before I got offered this, but it's there.
Nice superior intellect overcomes corporate bull crap I love it
Tmobile customer service might not be stellar but it's usually better than most other carriers.
Don't confuse the poor customer service reps with red flags like I'm using a device not sold/supported by Tmobile.
Just tell them you're using a phone that they sell/support and keep the distractions to a minimum.
This isn't a T-Mobile problem, its more of a problem with American carriers in general. They're wary to have to do anything involving a device they "don't support". Its unfortunate but kinda how it is.
Just keep on doing your thing. May I suggest going prepaid? You won't get good CS with an unlocked phone anyway, might as well not pay for it.

When you hit 5GB, you'll receive a pop up and/or SMS telling you you're being throttled for the rest of the period.
Your data speeds will also reduce to about that of EDGE, topping out at about .5mbps down / up. The icon in your status bar will still say 3G or H and you'll keep low ping times, but the speeds will be reduced.
I got sick of T-Mo and switched to StraightTalk prepaid. $45 per month for unlimited everything and I have yet to be throttled.

I agree Straight Talk is a great deal, but it's not the same as T-Mo when it comes to data. T-Mo is 100% up-front about when they will throttle you, and they'll never cut your data off or charge overages.

Yeah i don't understand this either. They are so worried about getting you to get one of "their" phones. Even if your not using their phone, your still paying for their service. You buy a phone from them, they get a few hundred in profit one time. But if they provide good service, they don't need to rely on selling you a phone because they'll be making money on the service they're selling you. I guess the carriers forget that they are providing a service, it doesn't matter what you use the service on they should support it.

Funny I had the complete opposite happen to me I called T-Mobile about slow data issue when I was in Las Vegas two weeks ago. The tech guy I talked to was real helpful and knew the GNex and was more than happy to help me. His biggest worry was that I called from my GNex and that if for some reason we would get cut off. But everyone has different outcomes when dealing with customer service. I will say that T-Mobile is light years ahead of Sprint, they just suck.

It is definitely BS. They did it for me when I upgraded to the 5GB plan.
So I bought my phone a little over a month ago. In the process I specifically asked the T-Mobile rep. what hidden charges or connection fees I'd be hit with. Naturally she responded "None". I thought "O.k. $100 a month for unlimited everything isn't too bad at all.", seeing as where I live I have no problems with service whatsoever. Then my first bill just came in the other day............and I'm still in shock. It was a grand total of $296 and some change. I thought, "What in the hell am I paying for again?" I'm damn near willing to take the bad mark on my credit just because I'd feel like I was telling T-Mobile to shove it up their ass, but really with the breach of contract, I'd be the one getting screwed without any lube. Can anyone ,on a serious note, possibly give me a little insight as to what the heck that kind of money is supposed to be going to when it was agreed upon as to be $100 a month? I wasn't charged a deposit or anything of that sort and the minutes and text are unlimited and the monthly unlimited plan for data services is 200GB which I never even came close to. It's crazy! When T-Mobile is directly asked about this you get different answers from just about everyone you speak with it seems like. Maybe I'm just still amazed by the 200% increase and not hearing what I wanna hear so it all just sounds like different answers from everyone. Hell I don't know! All I can say is "LIARS! They're all LIARS!" Stick with pre-paid if it's not too late for you yet!
I suggest that you look at the details of the bill and see each thing that they charged you for. When I switched over to TMO from Sprint they told me that they essentially charge you for two months the first month so you are always a month ahead in your bill. I guess that means when you leave you have a month extra.
Sent from my GS3 via TapaTalk 2
Can't you see what's exactly being charged? There should be itemized charges on the bill.
Is it possible that the extra $ 200 is for the phone itself? Or maybe a migration fee if you recently change your plan while you still in contract?
If you can read. Look at your bill
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Is there a "migration charge"?
When I got my first bill there was an activation charge even though the web page had said "limited time special, activation fee waived $0.00"
I called them up and told them waived means not charging in the first place and it does not mean "refund" three months later. The rep in the phone even said "I see how that could be misleading" I said either take that off my bill or cancel my contract because I don't want to be a customer of a company that's starting off our relationship with deception. The reversed the charge, but I still think they're scum for playing fast-and-loose with the meanings of words like that.
Other than that, I love my phone and coverage has been great, unlike 8 years ago when they had a tower down for more than a year....

How much did you pay for the phone? My first bill from tmo lumped everything together..... Did you log in to the website and look at a breakdown of the charges? Probably not.

I suggest that you look at the details of the bill and see each thing that they charged you for. When I switched over to TMO from Sprint they told me that they essentially charge you for two months the first month so you are always a month ahead in your bill. I guess that means when you leave you have a month extra.

This is true for the value plan. Plus there are also connection and "set up" fees on the first month. It will be much less than that next time.

Post it up here because it is very likely the only way you have a first bill that high is if there is a deposit they didnt tell you about.
Value plan with eip
69.99 for plan with unlim 4g
7.99 for insurance
20.00 for eip
Tax & fees is roughly $10
107$ total
Activation fee is $35.and is taxed ro roughly $39
So 146$ for first month
Now... first bill will be a little higher than that 146 because of prorated charges becauase your first bill is for more than one month of service. BUT there is no way prorated charges are an additional $150.
Show a copy of the bill with your sensitive info blocked out so we cant see it. Also.. what day did you activate

For the first month of two you're likely to run into some additional charges...
Activation fee, insurance, etc..
I would definitely look at the bill.
If you're still unsure, call up customer service and ask them to explain what each individual charge this first month.
Switch to straight talk byop tmobile sim. $45 unlimited calls text and data. Still runs on tmobile network.

This has been the case for me in the past too. I would check to see if this is the reason your bill is so high.

This is my current setup, but I'm using an ATT sim. Better coverage for me in my area than TMO. I'll take paying $45/mo instead of $100
I just got this charge too. They said 100 $ for my bill. It came in and i have a 265 $ and its 150 $ for texting between sept.11-28. I got my phone on the 28th. How the hell are they gonna roll back my original plan when ive had unlimited for over 4 years. And im going to the actual guy that sold me the phone on monday.

Response from T-Mobile is.....
O.k., sorry for just now getting back to everyone. The bill actually states that $200 of these charges are for previous charges. What previous charges? This is a brand new account. T-Mobile told me finally that it's a deposit fee. Aren't deposits charged beforea service of any sort provided? Seriously?! I already got screwed out of an extra $70 for the T-Mobile pre-paid plan I had paid a day earlier because they wouldn't switch it over to the new contract. Also, everyone needs to pay close attention to the apps you download. I realize it's not much now but it could have been. I was charged an extra .20 cents for an app sending an international text message without permission from me. I'm in the wrong business is all I've gotta say!
Yeah, there's 2 sections. My regular bill and a "previous charges" section. Previous to what? This is my first bill.
Post the bill.. And if you had already paid for a month of service why not wait a month to sign a contract.. I don't get it.
I was just like you when this happened to me. I was in Flex Pay plan from T-Mobile for 2 years before making the switch to the Value Plan.
My bill is $131 which includes warranty and insurance plus $20 and $15 down payment for the phones plus taxes which would come to a total of $170 for two lines. Luckily they gave me a $276 in-store credit for making the switch and being a loyal customer who never missed a single payment while being with them. My first bill came out to be $256 but didn't have to pay it due to the credit but I still demanded answers and the in-store rep said they were fees that will always come in the first bill (activation fees + paying a month ahead, etc). I just payed my second bill in which I only payed $150.

Post your bill or call 611. Ur getting frustrated and no one in here can help solve your problem. We can see your account.
I love this thing!
My advice is to always ask the reps questions and call them as soon as you can see your bill online or in the mailed bill. Youre wasting time posting here because we cant change anything on your bill.

Check your text charges....they tried to pin me up for over $300 when I switched plans and turned out they charged me $.20 for every text during the transition cycle. Took 3 days of calling before I went into a store and showed them the error. They fixed it on the spot.
