HOLY @#?*! Unlimited plan........ - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

So I bought my phone a little over a month ago. In the process I specifically asked the T-Mobile rep. what hidden charges or connection fees I'd be hit with. Naturally she responded "None". I thought "O.k. $100 a month for unlimited everything isn't too bad at all.", seeing as where I live I have no problems with service whatsoever. Then my first bill just came in the other day............and I'm still in shock. It was a grand total of $296 and some change. I thought, "What in the hell am I paying for again?" I'm damn near willing to take the bad mark on my credit just because I'd feel like I was telling T-Mobile to shove it up their ass, but really with the breach of contract, I'd be the one getting screwed without any lube. Can anyone ,on a serious note, possibly give me a little insight as to what the heck that kind of money is supposed to be going to when it was agreed upon as to be $100 a month? I wasn't charged a deposit or anything of that sort and the minutes and text are unlimited and the monthly unlimited plan for data services is 200GB which I never even came close to. It's crazy! When T-Mobile is directly asked about this you get different answers from just about everyone you speak with it seems like. Maybe I'm just still amazed by the 200% increase and not hearing what I wanna hear so it all just sounds like different answers from everyone. Hell I don't know! All I can say is "LIARS! They're all LIARS!" Stick with pre-paid if it's not too late for you yet!

I suggest that you look at the details of the bill and see each thing that they charged you for. When I switched over to TMO from Sprint they told me that they essentially charge you for two months the first month so you are always a month ahead in your bill. I guess that means when you leave you have a month extra.
Sent from my GS3 via TapaTalk 2

Can't you see what's exactly being charged? There should be itemized charges on the bill.
Is it possible that the extra $ 200 is for the phone itself? Or maybe a migration fee if you recently change your plan while you still in contract?

If you can read. Look at your bill
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app

Is there a "migration charge"?
When I got my first bill there was an activation charge even though the web page had said "limited time special, activation fee waived $0.00"
I called them up and told them waived means not charging in the first place and it does not mean "refund" three months later. The rep in the phone even said "I see how that could be misleading" I said either take that off my bill or cancel my contract because I don't want to be a customer of a company that's starting off our relationship with deception. The reversed the charge, but I still think they're scum for playing fast-and-loose with the meanings of words like that.
Other than that, I love my phone and coverage has been great, unlike 8 years ago when they had a tower down for more than a year....

How much did you pay for the phone? My first bill from tmo lumped everything together..... Did you log in to the website and look at a breakdown of the charges? Probably not.

This is true for the value plan. Plus there are also connection and "set up" fees on the first month. It will be much less than that next time.

use paint and black out all your sensitive info and then post it here for us and well be able to help you greatly from that point
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

Post it up here because it is very likely the only way you have a first bill that high is if there is a deposit they didnt tell you about.
Value plan with eip
69.99 for plan with unlim 4g
7.99 for insurance
20.00 for eip
Tax & fees is roughly $10
107$ total
Activation fee is $35.and is taxed ro roughly $39
So 146$ for first month
Now... first bill will be a little higher than that 146 because of prorated charges becauase your first bill is for more than one month of service. BUT there is no way prorated charges are an additional $150.
Show a copy of the bill with your sensitive info blocked out so we cant see it. Also.. what day did you activate
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2

For the first month of two you're likely to run into some additional charges...
Activation fee, insurance, etc..
I would definitely look at the bill.
If you're still unsure, call up customer service and ask them to explain what each individual charge this first month.

Switch to straight talk byop tmobile sim. $45 unlimited calls text and data. Still runs on tmobile network.

This has been the case for me in the past too. I would check to see if this is the reason your bill is so high.

This is my current setup, but I'm using an ATT sim. Better coverage for me in my area than TMO. I'll take paying $45/mo instead of $100

I just got this charge too. They said 100 $ for my bill. It came in and i have a 265 $ and its 150 $ for texting between sept.11-28. I got my phone on the 28th. How the hell are they gonna roll back my original plan when ive had unlimited for over 4 years. And im going to the actual guy that sold me the phone on monday.

Response from T-Mobile is.....
O.k., sorry for just now getting back to everyone. The bill actually states that $200 of these charges are for previous charges. What previous charges? This is a brand new account. T-Mobile told me finally that it's a deposit fee. Aren't deposits charged beforea service of any sort provided? Seriously?! I already got screwed out of an extra $70 for the T-Mobile pre-paid plan I had paid a day earlier because they wouldn't switch it over to the new contract. Also, everyone needs to pay close attention to the apps you download. I realize it's not much now but it could have been. I was charged an extra .20 cents for an app sending an international text message without permission from me. I'm in the wrong business is all I've gotta say!

Yeah, there's 2 sections. My regular bill and a "previous charges" section. Previous to what? This is my first bill.

Post the bill.. And if you had already paid for a month of service why not wait a month to sign a contract.. I don't get it.

I was just like you when this happened to me. I was in Flex Pay plan from T-Mobile for 2 years before making the switch to the Value Plan.
My bill is $131 which includes warranty and insurance plus $20 and $15 down payment for the phones plus taxes which would come to a total of $170 for two lines. Luckily they gave me a $276 in-store credit for making the switch and being a loyal customer who never missed a single payment while being with them. My first bill came out to be $256 but didn't have to pay it due to the credit but I still demanded answers and the in-store rep said they were fees that will always come in the first bill (activation fees + paying a month ahead, etc). I just payed my second bill in which I only payed $150.

Post your bill or call 611. Ur getting frustrated and no one in here can help solve your problem. We can see your account.
I love this thing!

My advice is to always ask the reps questions and call them as soon as you can see your bill online or in the mailed bill. Youre wasting time posting here because we cant change anything on your bill.

Check your text charges....they tried to pin me up for over $300 when I switched plans and turned out they charged me $.20 for every text during the transition cycle. Took 3 days of calling before I went into a store and showed them the error. They fixed it on the spot.

Hi Guys,
You guys made me feel like a **** ... I just got the phone ! and i'm sticking to the contract ! > I promise !
supposedly tmobile blacklists phones if the user does this.

Hi Guys,
i'll be honest, i'm thinking of signing a contract with t-mobile today to get the free phone promotion ... and disconnecting the service when i get the rebate ! lol ... would i get away with only paying the termination fees, phone bill and activation fee of 35 ? is the termination fees only $200 ?

Stop being a chump. Thanks.
Yeah... don't do this. T-Mobile will probably blacklist the phone anyway, they know about this kind of scam & they purposely take 4-8 weeks to send out rebates because of it. You're out of the remorse period by then & you'll owe the $200 plus the $35 activation fee, AND the first month's bill. Not worth it & frankly, dickish.

So my mom did a two year contact a month or two ago bit didn't get a phone because didn't need one. Tmobile said she could get one whenever she wants its just from that date the two year contract would renew again.
Thing is she has no data plan. Is there anyway someone knows that I'd be able to benefit and get gs2 through her upgrade without her signing data or anything???
Thanks!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
No because the data service contract is on a per line, so if the upgrade is performed on her line, the data requirement would also be on that line so she'd be paying for data if you did the upgrade.
Not familiar with T-Mobile, but could you get the phone - wait for the rebate - then cancel the data? I know on att they force a plan in smartphones, but currently running a mytouch unlocked with no data and want a new phone.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
I talked to a T-mo rep recently since I bought my phone on Amazon and then heard about the promotion...you have to sign up for an unlimited mintues plan weather you are a subscriber or new signer; and you have to get a data plan. Both are locked in for two years subject to termination fees.
After all that I would end up paying like $30 extra per month which wasn't worth the discount.
The plan is not locked in - the data is not locked either, especially on the value plan. You can take the web off all togetheer. Once you get the rebate u can lower it your plan. They will not blacklist if you cancel
sent from my real Gs move in silence like lasagna
I don't know about the US but if you were in Canada, you'd be locked into a 3 year contract, and if you cancelled anywhere before the 16th month you'd be paying $600 in cancellation fees (after the 16th month, minus $20 per month from the $600 lol), on top of what you paid for the phone (probably around 150) and the $35 admin fee, plus an extra month's bill if you decide to port out (around $50-65 depending on your plan, could be a lot more too).
This is why when we see "Free iPhone 4S from Best Buy this weekend!", we flame the OP because it's no where near free lol ends up costing a lot more than the outright price.
Oh yeah, if you decide to take the data portion off of your plan, automatic $200 ETF for just that here in Canada lol

Service (data) should not be under contract. If your phone breaks and use a nonsmart phone.. Call in and remove data.

FYI the loophole of switching to a nondata phone and removing the data feature requirement was changed several months ago. If your SGS2 breaks and you switch to a junk T9 flip phone, you're going to still have data on that. You can reduce the quantity, but data will not be removed.

This is true. I found this out when I tried to remove the data plan on the second line that I opened for my douchebag ex-best friend. He bailed & stuck me with a line that I didn't need & when I tried to get T-Mo to remove the data plan, they refused, saying that since I initially opened the line with a smartphone, a data plan was required for that line no matter what phone was being used with it. I told them that the line wasn't even being used at all anymore, that the sim was just sitting in a drawer, but they told me the data plan could not be removed for 2 years no matter what.

Great deal on T-Mo Galaxy SIII

Got an email this weekend about a good deal on Galaxy SIII, got it today over the phone with CS.
New TMobile Galaxy SIII for $229.99 (10% discount + waived $35 activation fees) via private channel. New activations, add a line and eligible upgrades. See flyer for promo code and phone # to call. Offer not redeemable online or at the store.
mention website student rate on the phone to redeem the promotion.

I don't mean to thread jack but Wirefly has a really great price as well.
I used Wirefly to get mine for $199.99 tax free with free shipping and the process was VERY seamless. Before finalizing my order through them I even went into the T-Mobile store near me to see if they could match the price or even find anything fishy with the deal that I should be weary of. The salesman looked at his system for a bit and went through the order process on Wirefly with me then said "I'd hate to give business away to another merchant but we can't beat that deal and it looks 100% legit to me. If I were you I would go with that deal also."
So I ordered it through Wirefly right there on the spot. I chose the option to upgrade the phone while keeping my current plan and my phone arrived within 3 days with a final price of $199.99. The salesman even had me return to the store when I received my phone so he could give me a micro sim card for it free of charge.
I was nervous about going this route but I can honestly say that I would do it again in a heartbeat and plan on using them for future upgrades, assuming their prices remain cheaper.

I just called T-Mobile and asked why it was $329 when everybody else had it for $199. She said that it just is. I told her that I'd be buying a Galaxy Nexus straight from Google instead of extending my contract. She then transferred me to the "save" department where they instantly quoted me $186 before shipping and taxes. Ended up paying $211 and some change for express shipping and taxes and had the upgrade or activation fee waived.
I called and asked to be transfered to the "loyalty department" ended up paying 300 but they waived my upgrade and shipping fee AND credited my account 200$. Basically only paid 100 for the device

Wow Loyalty Department is awesome. I called them up and spoke to a nice guy about my situation. and Got a hell of a deal for a blue 32Gb GS3. I explained to the gentlemen that my wife wants to move to At&t and being with tmobile for 10 years I didn't really want to go but a friend of hers would hook us up with gs3 phones for $150 each and lower a monthly. The customer service was eager to help out to keep us with tmobile. after a few minutes on hold he came back with offering me a blue 32gb SGS3 for $120 and waving the over night charge plus saving me $50 on my monthly bill. also one of my phone are able to still upgrade next month. I'll save that for the next big thing in a few months. I love tmo. they know how to keep me as a valued customer. at the end of the phone call I asked him how soon will I have my new 32GB GS3. he said I should have it tomorrow when I get to work.
I should change my signature now... so happy

And after a bit of talking with the women ( sounded hot so hot) she said i will give u the s3 for 360 and also got the 50 dollar mail in rebate which is cool so actually paid 310 for phone and it was at my house in 3 days. She just said i see u are a valued customer with 5 lines and always pay your bill sir we want you ro stay . Anyways im happy customer...also even tho she called it an upgrade she said it will not affect my actual upgrade i think because i extended my contract. But thats cool cuz i have been with tmobile forever anyways. So when december comes around i can get whatever is badass at that time

When you guys upgraded via retentions, did they make you change your current data plan? I have the grandfathered 5 GB $30 data plan and I don't want to lose it. When I upgrade online it doesn't make me change it but obviously it's a lot more expensive.

[Q] GS3 with T-Mobile Advantage?

I am planning on switching to T-Mobile and I did some research to try and find the best deal possible since I am going to get into a new 2 year contract. I am a college student attending the University of Ohio and my university doesn't have a direct relationship with the school. I found a discount via the T-Mobile Advantage program and I attached the flyer here.
You get
A $50 account credit with a new activation (expires on 12/31)
Waived activation fees
10% discount
You have to call CS to activate I am not sure whether you can do it online. There is a promo code in the flyer which you have to mention. That discount is also affiliated with the student discount website Student rate. I am not sure whether you actually have to be a student or not.
Has anyone used this discount before??
Well with everything make sure you read the fine print, always little things to reduced the discounts you're getting. You sure you want tmobile they are not definitely not the best company in terms of customer service and business model. Anywho you should definitely check out best buy, they usually have really good deals on phone.
Right now they have the s3 for 179.99 way cheaper than what you would get it at tmobile around 300 or so. Make sure you call them because for some reason tmobile doesn't allow in store pickup(****ty business model). Also I don't know how all that works when you starting off, I was just upgrading good luck.

Examine if you really need to enter a 2-year contract.
Look at the Montly 4G plans. What are your needs - how many minutes and how much data do you need ?
I went with the 100minute/unlimited texting/5Gb plan for $30/mo. Even buying the phone up-front I'm saving a great deal over locking myself into a contract - a contract that wouldn't even give me what I actually wanted.
I made the mistake of going contract with Sprint on my first phone off of my family's the family plan. Overpaid for service I barely used. I don't see myself going back to contract plans - you overpay in the long-run - much more than if you just bought the phone and then paid a lower rate for the service instead of the hidden fee of paying them back for that "free" or "reduced cost" phone.
For instance, if I went with Verizon and paid $80/mo for their cheapest smartphone plan, that's $1200 more over two years than I'm paying now. Take away the $450 I spent on the phone - that's still $750. I could literally buy a brand new phone with THAT, even and two great-condition used ones. Maybe I'm a cynical jerk, but carrier subsidising is just a way to trick you into paying more money.

It really is for most cases. Just some people like to aim high and go for an s3 and not everyone has 700 upfront to pay a company. While you end up paying more in a contract most people get paid every 2 to 4 weeks and are satisfied paying a fee monthly and two years is not very long. After the two years you can always take that phone you bought and get into those no contact based companies like metro etc.

How exactly do you get on the $30 unlimited plan with 100 talk minutes if you are already on T-Mobile prepaid.. I checked in the area on my T-Mobile to change the plan and it doesn't show up in there?

It looks like the $50 has expired but discount is still valid
Actually, this offer seems to be back on back on until 02/28 - $50 credit + 10% discount + waived activation fees. They also have some pretty good sales on handsets
Samsung Galaxy SIII is free right now until the 18th of feb, i think actually almost all tmo devices are free

Is this just new accounts and contracts through calling customer service? I got the s3 for free after tons of issues with my amaze, and now my wife is super jealous and wants one, haha.

If you call and upgrade using the promo code I think you can still get the discount and a discounted device. It mayb depend whether your account is eligible for an upgrade or not. You should definitely give it a shot they're usually very helpful on the phone!

I pay $30 plus less than $2 in sales tax with T - Mobile.
I've never had an issue with their customer service - and it was I fact one of the reasons I was happy to switch to them when my contract with Sprint was up.
People need to pick what works best for them.

Bad thing about t-mobile is that when you run your limit on t-mobile they put you on 2g. Simp puts you on 3

Bad thing abiut Simple Mobile is that I'd pay $50 to be throttled after 2Gb whereas I now pay $30 and get 5Gb until throttled. And T - Mobile avtually tells you about the soft data cap up front.
Hey, Simple Mobile is great for whoever it works for, and T - Mobile is great for who it works for. Notice that I'm not calling them "douches" even though I disagree with some of their business practices.

I am calling them douche because I've had a family plan since the razor came out and the price just gets crazy. They treated me like a wallet. And yeah simp tells you, read the fine print.

T-Mobile Migration Fees Waived

Veteran T-Mobile customers still on a classic plan may be interested. In connection with adding members to my current classic family plan, I was told that because we've been T-Mobile customers for more than eight years the $150 per line migration fee would be waived for the current family plan members.
I'll want to see it confirmed at My T-Mobile, but as explained in the T-Mobile store this results in a lower monthly value plan rate and outright ownership of our Galaxy SIII 32GB phones. The store salesman had to call corporate to make it work. He did so because I balked at paying migration fees just to add additional members to an existing family plan.
Obviously, I don't know whether a shorter customer relationship or other considerations also may work. But it's worth a try.
Tmobile has always been good to their long time customers. As long as its within reason they will usually do whatever they can to keep your business, especially if they think you might leave!
That's been my experience anyway.

Keep watch on your bill... They offered me the same thing when I went in to a store and upgraded to the s3, then two months later they tried to charge a migration fee of $150 for my line only and not my wife's strangely enough. I had to call and explain how that never agreed to pay a migration fee to a couple of different people before I got a supervisor to correct the issue, so all in all it worked out fine, just make sure they do what they say they are going to do. T-Mobile customer since 03, and a very happy one at that!
I've been with them since 06..bill is starting to get too expensive.. Might have to try something with them

I got almost the same exact thing. Except mine was only for one phone, and I got the 16GB instead of 32GB. But I also got an extra $100 credit on my account. In addition to the $10 a month, $50 Rebate, and I also got one or two other things, but I cant remember right now!
I have four lines on my account, each with contracts. I've been with Tmobile for 7 yrs. What are my chances of getting all migration fees waived?

I wish I could say the same about t-mobile. I've been with them for 8 years. Recently I moved to an area in Mississippi, and where I live, in and around my house, I do NOT get phone reception. If I want to make a call, or send a text, I have to walk/drive half a mile down the road to get reception.
The "engineers" at t-mobile "looked into it," and they "concluded" that there were no problems.
My roommates have att, and the get great reception anywhere inside the house.
All t-mobile did for me was lower my bill from 130/month to $100. So I'm still paying $100/month for service that I can't even use. I wish I knew a way out.

No wi-fi calling on Cyanogenmod.
Also I don't have wireless internet either.
Let's say I did have wifi, and let's say cyanogenmod had wifi calling.
Should I still be content in paying $100/month for something that I never use?

Profit!
I just saw the $25 x 24 months option with $0 down for the Galaxy S4 and tried to upgrade online. It said there was a $100 migration fee so I called customer care, got sent to loyalty then to customer care again and the lady refused to remove the fee. She literally argued with me that it's essential that they charge the fee because it compensates for early upgrades since you get a discounted price. I even told her I'd likely be changing providers then, and she still said it't not possible to waive it.
Errr, so frustrated.

Hey guys,
I have been with T-mobile for 10 years. I have 4 lines with truly Unlimited everything, getting ready to add a 5th line, my bill is 180.00, now after BS TAXES I pay 222.00.. No Carrier can beat that! Every time I have a big issue with T-mobile the only way to resolve the issue is quite simple but takes a little more time. WRIGHT THEM A LETTER! Don't email them, don't call them, just wright them a letter about your problem and mail it to their corporate offices. You will get a call from them in about 2 weeks with a possible resolution to your problem. I like T-mobile allot and I have only needed to wright 2 letters to them and both time they went above my exceptions. Most problems can be fixed by calling them but when you get no were with them wright a letter.

Well, unfortunately, you do have to be a customer for 8 years or more, and I've only been a customer for 6 yrs 7 months. Migration fees will not be waived.
I wish I could tell them I want more then Edge where I live...
Waived my fees!
Just want to confirm that I called T-Mobile today to see if I could switch over to the simple choice plan with 5 lines. I was previously on the older family plan. 5 lines with 2gb data and unlimited text and I was paying $210 per month. The first person I talked to would not make a change for me. I told them I have been with T Moibile for 15 years. I was transferred to Customer retention. They proceeded to tell me that they could only reduce the migration fees to $300. I said no thinks and hung up. I called back 5 minutes later and the rep waived all of the migration fees for me no questions asked. Just wanted to let you know this works and say thanks to the OP for pointing it out! Moral of the story... If at first you don't succeed, call back and keep trying!

Persistence and politeness often succeed. Just the other day, I noticed that, although the change-over to the new plan occurred with only two days left in my service month, my T-Mobile bill showed a full $10 for the 2.5GB data option. A pleasant conversation with a T-Mobile representative whom I had asked to explain and confirm all the items of this transitional bill resulted in the $10 charge being waived.
It doesn't always work. And sometimes it can be quite frustrating. But I don't generally find that haranguing a service rep gets me anywhere.

I have had nothing but good luck with T-Mobile reps working with me. I agree that harassing them and threatening to leave etc will get you nowhere.

[Q] It it advisable?

Since Tmobile has discontinued selling devices at subsidized prices anymore, let's say, if one were to buy Note 3 from Wirefly or Staples for $299 with a new line on a classic plan (they are still allowing that), and cancel the service after 14 days and pay the ETF of $200 plus the activation $35 (which can be waived) and first month's service fees $80 (minimum), then the total comes to $579 or $614. Has anyone tried this? Will Tmobile blacklist imei once you cancel the contract?

No reason to blacklist if u paid the money
Hmmmmm you sir might be on to something here

So, who's going to be the dare devil?
I think y'all are gonna be disappointed whoever tries. Carriers got themselves covered on this. Best thing is tmobile's monthly plan.
sent from my sm-900t.
I would do this myself but I'm out of the country on vacation. But someone should just call tmo and just ask that. But if you early term and pay etf they can't blacklist your phone. But there is still the thought if you do early terminate you may have to pay out the phone possibly. Idk.
A few years back when I worked for one of the major carriers, if you did not return the phone when you canceled within the grace period then you would have to pay the full price of the phone and if you didn't then they would send the bill to collections. This phone is awesome but not worth the harassment of debt collectors and getting your credit score screwed.
I know on amazon you had to keep the service for 6 months. If you didn't you had to return the phone or pay the full price.
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
I read up on all TM stipulations about 2 weeks before the note 3 came out. I'm not sure about buying the phone on amazon but if you buy it though TM, you are basically refinancing the phone. You're paying a little more each month (I think for me it's like 15 it varies depending on how much you put down), plus you get the jump program included in your insurence. Also if you cancel, you will have to pay off the remaining balance on the phone's "loan".
OP this is exactly how I got both my note 2. Tmo had just stopped the classic plan. Walmart still offered it though. I signed up then the very next day switched to a value plan, paid the 200 fee ( on one of them because I sweet talked the Rep and got the other waived) and was set. I got me and the wife note 2s for 600 bucks total (this is when they were still the hot phone)

Thanks for that info!
Too late, both, Wirefly and Staples, have now taken down the classic plans and are showing the full price for Note 3 Oh well, you snooze, you definitely lose! I will wait for some time b4 the price comes down a little...
