Mango @ Build? - Windows Phone 7 General

After seeing the RTM of mango finally leaked, It makes me wonder if we will see Mango officially released at BUILD this week. Do you think that this is a possibility?

I think just on htc devices will become this or next week mango

Just a bunch of Windows Stuff.
I upgrade that every 3-4 years when I get a new computer. BUILD doesn't even interest me.

Windows Mobile 6.5

Ive heard its out (officially) and ive been seeing themes and such for it. Should we be upgrading our TP2? I know were suppose to get a free upgrade from 6.1, but not sure how i would get that. Ive tried to update though Windows Update on my device, but it never can get a connection (weird)
Where have you heard it's officially released? Last I heard it was early next month.
There are leaked copies around and the chefs are cooking 6.5 ROMs. I'd expect the official (free) upgrade to go up on the HTC site some days / weeks after the official release, when the carriers will release their versions is down to them

6.5 is going to be released officially on October 6th. When the carriers release their own version, it will most definitely be after that date. Also, Microsoft has not once used Windows update for WM, and they won't use it to upgrade you from 6.1.

so its pretty pointless to even check for updates on that hua.. fair enough.. and i didnt think they would send 6.5 though the update, just thought id check.
And it was porly the leaked roms i found stuff on.
Ahh yea,, Oct6. missed the date on it.
Windows Mobile 6.5 and Marketplace Available Oct 6
It's also been stated that HTC plans on releasing their update on that same date. Meaning that you can upgrade your unlocked/unbranded phone then. One of the advantages of not having waited for the local carriers to release their version. You don't have to wait for them to release their update either

Any links where HTC has mentioned it that they intend to release it on 6th oct for everyone? i am really looking forward for it
Anyone here have a 6.5 ROM that can compare differences with 6.1? I've used 6.5 briefly on a Tilt and I'm not really seeing the benefit besides the bigger icons. TouchFlo with 6.1 on my TP2 seems to be fine to me. 6.5 seems to be a little cumbersom. What's the real benefit of 6.5 anyway? I think I'll skip and wait for 7.

To add fuel to the Mango in summer rumours...

There's a lot of rumors going around that Microsoft is actually ready to release Mango this summer, I just came across this (old) Dell roadmap.
http://s3.amazonaws.com/wpcms_production/resources/images/000/044/201/large/dell-2011-smartphone.png
They have a "Windows Phone 7 Next Gen" Device called the Wrigley scheduled for July 2011. So maybe Mango is going to come out this summer? Wouldn't surprise me, if it's ready then they're going to want to push it out asap.
Judging from the lack of support for their current WP7 device I wouldnt put much faith in any Dell roadmap.
Exactly... not only that but keep in mind once MS releases Mango the carriers are going to want to do their own testing to see what works and what doesnt to send BACK to MS to fix. There release of NODO was a little behind schedule so I cant imagine that Mango is going to be on schedule let alone ahead of schedule.
When it comes it comes. No sooner no later.

Is that like the Zen philosophy of smartphone updates?
ha... well so far thats probably the only philosophy that works with WP7. Untill this OS is cracked open its not like we can even load stuff on super earlier like you can with an android headset or WM.
Regardless, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. Any dates at this point is mere speculation. Regarding MS' update schedule I'll believe the update release date when the phones start actually getting them!
I don't think you'll see Mango sooner than late fall.
I hpoe it won't be after the holiday season, that would be a major bummer. Hopefulley they will have a better idea after May 24 for what ever is being announced with Mango then. I am looking forward to a MSM8655 SoC hopefully with a side qwerty!
I'm going to stick with Spring of 2012. That way I am pretty sure not to get disappointed.
I have it from a good source that it will release this summer. I of course can't identify my source, but I assure you it is credible.
Expect it to release sometime in summer, with networks rolling it out Sept/Oct.
What my source did not say is when this snippet of info would be released, but my bet is that we will hear about it on the 24th, as that would make logical sense.
What this means to me:
Once it is out, we can probably figure out a hack to get it in summer instead of fall by cutting out the tele network.

Microsoft: The delivery of Mango is now in the hands of handset makers

Peter Wissinger, the director for Microsoft’s Mobile Business Group in the Nordic countries, has made an “official” statement about the delivery handsets running Mango, saying the software was completed ahead of schedule.
He writes (translated)
Official statement: Now it’s up to our manufacturing partners to release mangos to our customers. Microsoft has delivered complete mango earlier than planned to the manufacturers. Feels good now.
It’s good to see a re-invigorated Microsoft who not only meet their ship targets but exceeds then, a far cry from the slow pace we were used to in the Windows Mobile days.
The statement may mean either we will see devices early than expected, such as the Fujitsu IS12T next week, or that some devices may come over a longer period, rather than all at once like last year.
The former is however more likely, as most Windows Phones are in need of being replaced in the market with new devices with improved specs, so I still expect we will see a good bunch of new Windows Phones released over the next few months.

Same question. Were supposed to get it from Microsoft, right?
Everyone will get it from Microsoft (via Zune). But no one will get it until the manufacturers deliver their device-specific updates back to Microsoft, so they can create the different device delivery bundles.
If your phone is unbranded, you should not have to wait for the carrier-specific updates to be sent back to MS, which is where most of the delay usually comes from.
Check your zune software for updates.......
Has everyone started getting mango updates from zune now??
How about HTC?

[Rumor] Mango to be released next week.

According to this article on wmpoweruser.com - which referres to a windowsphone dev podcast, Mango will start to be released next week. Which is a little sooner than expected, since it was rumored to be released in the end of september.

Some said 15th earlier, which is on next week's Thursday. I hope this is true. Time for me to play those registry tricks to see if I can install extra languages.
But not sure if DVP will follow this schedule.......
The way Microsoft and reliable sources are talking, it seems as though Microsoft may have used some of its strength on carriers and we'll see a much more expedited release. That isn't to say some, or many, won't be delayed, but I doubt it'll be a NoDo type delay.
I will be amazed if my phone gets the update this side of Christmas and I refuse to het my hopes up
SO, what will we do if we have 7720 eh? Roll all the way back to Nodo?

Yup, that's why we were supposed to back up our backup.
I think this time around, once MS announces the Mango update rollout schedule, most of the devices will get it fairly quickly. MS should have learnt a thing or two from the NoDo episode.

@Henry I think Dell may be on board. I called last week about a replacement DVP and was told they were out of stock and to call back Sep 16 to get my replacement shipped out.

Keep in mind, The marketplace started accepting apps for Mango a few weeks ago. No Dev is going to release new apps for NoDO when Mango will offer more features in the API and everyone should have it soon.
Microsoft has a big push in getting Mango in everyone's hands ASAP.
The question is, how it will be done, the leaked roms from HTC are making people nuke their phones to install it, most carriers are going to want people to do it as a upgrade, because of data loss=support nightmare.
Time will tell but, I will bet it will be within the next 2 weeks for 90% of the carriers (huge carriers almost 99%)
Sadly MS is highly unpredictable. There was an overflow of rumors and statements made about the condition of WP7 upon initial release, which panned out to be false. Then there was another wildly overflowing number of rumors and statements made about the release of NoDo. NoDo was finally released when nobody really even cared anymore.
Mango was initially set for Sep./Oct of this year. If it happens, it will be the first time in recorded human history where MS has kept a date.

entire thread devoted to that question.

going by snickler's post there is a chance that we might not have to roll back if on 7220.68. Only time will tell...
Still on 7712 here. Didn't get the unofficial 7720 because not much is different in it. Im hoping I don't have to go back to nodo. Even though I have a backup (multiple in fact) its just annoying to lose my settings from mango. hopefully I can go from 7712 to official mango
Sent from my T8788 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
7712 directly to official is highly unlikely as 7712 is beta and in the beta que. As has been said, 7720.68 may be back into the official release que (carrier and oem updates seem to come through) so a 7712 to 7720.68 to official release just might be a feasible update path that doesn't lose anything. Time will tell.

Have to agree with martylk, even if Microsoft get mango out this week, the carriers will svree things up for sure.

Microsoft completed Mango in July. What we are waiting on right now is the carriers (and handset makers, although it does appear that most/all of them are done now). If a release is announced in the coming days, it will be because the carriers have completed their testing and possible changes, and submitted whatever they have back to Microsoft, not because we are still waiting on them.
Yep if telenav breaks all the customers get boned cause the carrier wants their 9.99/mo... Its pretty sad, but I'm starting to think about dropping my smartphones (4 a dumbphone) and getting a 7" tab to save money and not have to deal with that in th future. this seems not o be worth it anymore...

Do a Google search and find the info. It said actually Aug./Sept., but I fudged a little for people to not have a **** fit.
Info released today: http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=21053&cdvn=news&newsarticleid=32754&mapcode=consumer%7Cmobile-devices
AT&T will be among the first carriers to start updating existing phones and all Windows Phones already sold by AT&T will receive the Windows Phone 7.5 update this fall.

If you show me a link I might stand corrected though.

Development of next WP7 update: Tango

Original:
http://nanapho.jp/archives/2011/11/windows-phone-os-build-now-over-8700/
English Translation:
According to some sources, newest build of Windows Phone has already reached 87XX.
OS version of WP7.5 RTM is 7.10.7720, including IS12T. However, there exists a new one 7.10.8200 after that.
When I was checking the apps server "Dude, where is my update?", there are few version numbers which is newer than 8200.
- 7.10.8645
- 7.10.8659
- 7.10.8664
- 7.10.8665
- 7.10.8704
Recently, WPCentral has reported that there is a unknown device named Nokia Champagne and being logged in the application "I'm a WP7!", the OS version of that device is known as 7.10.8711
While the first build 82XX was still unknown, the development of 86XX came and build number should have reached 87XX in mid October.
There is a question. It would be "Why there are employees in Microsoft using that software?" That application should be for those who are waiting for NoDo or Mango updates, and not a necessity for whom develops Tango. Would it be the "helpers" who would like to share the development progress?
In WP Tango, there are 2 versions as said earlier, Tango 1 and Tango 2. The earliest possible debut would be the beginning of CES in 2012.
-----------------------------
Mm.....content of Tango update is still unknown.
Would this update come at the similar days when NoDo was released in next year?
Good to see MS is already working on the Tango update.
Bit worried as i doubt whether the upcoming updates Tango 1 , 2 and Apollo will be delivered to all 1st Generation Windows 7 devices.
Hoping for the best.

i'm 99% it will. 2nd generation devices are not much better than 1st (the cpu is a little faster but still single core), and radar and titan have even less ram than e.g. the mozart
