How do I know if the phone that is sent from T-mobile as a replacement phone for a defective one is Refurbished or NEW one ?
I have been told that it is more likely a refurbished device but there is a possibility that they send new ones sometimes !
I just don't think it's fair to receive a refurbished replacement for an only 1 month old "defective " one !
Hey Denver Guy...I believe there is sticker under battery that will say its a refurbished device. But usually its up in the air what you recive from them

Refurbished is a very broad word. You can send a phone in cause a button is loose and once fixed it will now be labeled as a refurb. Out of all of the Refurbished phones i have received in the past none looked less than new. Even when my sister received a refurbed Mytouch 3g nearly a year later...it still looked brand new with zero issues. Its not something I would worry too much about if you have to send your phone in to get a replacement. You can however try and ask them to just give you a new one out of the box as well for exchange.
Edit:
Just my input and I know it doesnt answer your question. But like mentioned slightly , if it is within the first 30 days I am 99% sure you can just ask for a new one.

Does the android version whether it's updated to 2.3.6 or not give a clue at all ?
should it come in its original box if it's new ?

i just got a replacement, and the one that they sent me has the screen protector from when u first buy the phone.... so i guess the way to differenciate is the screen protector when u get it out the box... if it has the one from when u first bought the phone, its new... if u have a new one with nothing on it.... im guessing thats a refurb....

My last two phones I had to send in, the ones that came back had the default screen protector on them. I doubt either were brand new.

why you doubt they were Brand new ?
The replacements are usually refurbs that come in plain white boxes. You'll never get one in a retail box from replacement unless arrangements were made prior.

My last ones were a mytouch 3g slide and mytouch 4g. When I got my s2 replaced it was just an instore exchange so that one doesnt count since I got a whole new box.
I doubt it because I was told specifically that they were refurbished. If they were new, it would prob be easier for them to have you go to a store and do an exchange.
I just got my warranty replacement sgs2 today from T-mobile it came in the white box but has default screen protector. I bought my sgs2 in the beginning of Dec"for the guy who asked". It looks flawless and smells new"lol", but I'de say its refurbished, because it didn't come in the sealed box. I made a big stink about receiving a refurbished phone when I called it in, but like the other fellow said they would not guarantee a new phone, but did agree its not fair to buy a new phone and receive a refurbished phone back."but still wouldn't guarantee" anything."bull crap"
There are no labels that say it is a refurb so makes me "kinda" wonder. Because att refurb phones are labeled behind the batt.
But any ways 2 more things. A lil Off Topic so sorry stop reading if that bothers you ,but I think its cool..
Originally I bought 2 HD2's at wall mart for 49.95 each "Best DEV Phone EVER" and got two 100 gift cards for the phones."Nice" 9 months later my HD2 reboots its self all the time outta nowhere, so T mobile says sorry heres a g2x cause htc doesn't make hd2's anymore."sweet I love the phone" so I think that was pretty cool. It was a refurb though. works perfect. Woulda rather had the HD2 in both cases though.
Now my wife broke her screen and we did a insurance claim for 120 and they sent her a brand new htc HD7 with the Mango update on it, sealed in the box. neat phone but no android for it so I don't like it lol.
I just thought I would share some of my phone replacement exp's with you guys.
edit: it just came with 2.3.5 and uvkid

Does the replacement phone sgs2 which came with the default screen protector have a blue sticker inside ?

hey all, just got my third HOX as all my others had the usual 'faults'... i noticed this one was perfect, not even the screen flex.. the other thing i noticed was the plastic that comes on the screen on my first two devices said "The one you've been waiting for", where as this new one just says "HTC One X". could this be a new faultless revision?
Can anybody confirm this?
Never had any problems with mine. No flicker or whatever. Never exchange I had reboots when I was on 1.19 software now that I'm on 1.28 perfect

reboots are software related, and can be easily be fixed. your very lucky to have gotten a faultless phone
Serial
Which series of serial numbers does this set belong to? Is this from the new HT25?
I just got a One X (white) and it came with the "HTC ONE X" sticker on the screen. I had expected it be "I'm the One you've been waiting for".
My device seems perfect so far and it came installed with the 1.28 FW
I'm fed up with HTC and this phone. My early HT23 came with an outdated protective sticker. That's BS. For the amount I paid I should have the latest sticker. It's an outrage that they'd change the sticker so soon after the phone's been introduced. All my Samsung phones had a sticker that stayed the same for the entire time I owned the phone. I’m never going to buy another HTC product. Add me to the “getting a SGS3” list. I think I’ll start a petition on HTC’s Facebook page.
P.S. - I don't care that mine phone doesn't have any problems, this is still an issue.

Relax he's joking.....don't catch the sarcasm??
What he's trying to say is a sticker don't mean **** lol....just because the sticker is different doesn't mean they changed anything. Theres always a newer manufactured model. It's in the serial number. Mine was made march. Yours might be made in April etc etc....

I was absolutely being sarcastic. But you have to admit my attempt at humor looks awfully similar to a lot of what people post for real.
Here's my take on the sticker. If HTC made some physical changes to the phone and wanted to differentiate them somehow, why would they use something that's immediately pulled off the phone before it's used? If that was their goal, they’d make a change to the serial number sequencing. And unless they planned to throw away all the phones with the old sticker and not ship them, why would differentiating them before shipping matter? I guess they could be sending "bad" phones with old stickers to resellers they don't like. As Freud said, "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."
There have been "good" phones since the first batches that were released. I'd imagine the more that are assembled the tighter the tolerances will get so later phones should have less QC issues. That happens with anything that’s mass produced. But the first retail unit shipped was probably the 25,000th phone built with early test production units discarded. So it's not like they just fired up the old assembly line, took what got spit out, and packed it up for shipping.
My phone is from the old revision and it doesn't flex, flicker or lose WiFi, only had sone minor artifacts.
I want a full fledged havok phone that doesn't work!
What is your batch number ? HT25 ?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Could be...
fknshwow,
This is most likely a SH/HT 25 batch. If the sticker states differently than the previous, than probability of 25s are high. This looks promising...
Again... I had all the screen issues mentioned, not since the last 2 OTAs.. As said before, they were software related not hardware related
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
well if the sticker is changed and like death_machine said it comes with 1.28 out of box it might be a newer revision, why not
can the OP and death_mashine tell us the first five letters/digits of your serial?
do you have screen ripple on outer screen edges pressure?
maybe HTC got superstitious from all return and changed the sticker lol
Does this mean my sticker is now a collectors item?
I'll want $100 for it.

well who knows... they did that with the transformer prime.... they made the stupid thing out of aluminium thus the gps doesnt work at all and wifi strength is dramatically reduced... asus didnt test it, they just shipped them... and when people started complaining that the gps was fk'ed all asus did was remove gps from the official specifications on their website, and made a new revision a few weeks later. i believe the new one is either a TF300 or TF700 or both

not 100% sure on the number, i took the phone back.. came across a new fault that i havent seen before... got like a huge white spot at the bottom of the screen... i thought it was a bunch of dead pixels behind the screen but now im think it might be something else.
so i take that back... its ALMOST faultless... but i duno guys, to me it looked like a new revision, the general build felt more solid.
and no idea if the sticker means anything.. but im just saying the latest batches arnt coming with the original sticker so i assume they are changing things with the phone

So the first phone was new and had crackling speakers. Second phone that was sent to me was refurbished and had a smudge underneath the screen so it wasn't cleanable unless I opened the hw. Third refurbished phone had a glass gap between the screen and the base of the phone, so there was bleeding light coming from the back of the phone. Now T-Mobile is sending me a fourth refurbished (most likely) phone.
All the replacements seen to be refurbished.
Imagine. . .I played for S-Off each time and a screen protector each time. That's around $140 ($25x4 + $10x4) USD just on replacement bs.
Anyone else having these issues?
I unrooted, restored stock ota, re locked, and re s-oned the first two devices (fourth device is coming 6/1/15) to restore original (warranty) status despite all these issues being hardware related. Keep in mind I'm no newb to phones.

If you are not new to the phone section, you would not pay for s-off everytime before you check the phone for defects or whatever. So you could save a lot of money,
if you check your device with Pixel test and eyes before you set it s-off
Other then that, i do not have any problems with the phone. Its a huge improvment from m7 build quality to m9.

I already checked for defects. However it was only noticeable during the night. As for the smudge, it can be taken off with a microfiber, however once the oil of the skin touches the screen it comes back. All of these were freak incidents.
Pixel test has nothing to do with my problems with the phones as I have no dead pixels.
Like I said, definitely very aware of my phone and its uses. I've had every phone out there and do numbers of different ports for audio. So its not like this is my first rodeo.

T-Mobile is very generous as they credited me $60 at no hassle or haggling. They've sent me several replacements with no hassle. However they said if the third replacement they send me is defected, they'll allow me to choose a swap of the M9 for another phone. . .which is not what I want because I like this phone.

Sorry to hear that you're having issues getting a unit without defect. I ordered my developer edition phone a few days after it was available and it showed up in perfect condition. I had read about issues regarding gaps at the screen and body, and a "clicky" area at one of the screen boundaries, however my phone was free of all of those. My old M7 had one pixel that would only display in white, but I kept it and was very happy with it.
Bottom line - I hope you get an M9 that you are happy with, because this phone is awesome. As hamdir notes in the sticky thread at the top, the upcoming firmware update brings great improvements to daytime camera performance and battery performance. HTC continues to show themselves as a company dedicated to delivering a great experience for their customers.

You appear to be the exception and not the rule with regard to defective M9s. If you hold out for an M9 that meets your standards, I think you'll be very pleased with the device. Good luck!
I ended up with 3 of them at one point. Got to choose between two grey and one gold silver. One of the greys had phucked up speakers. Kept it for a few weeks prior to paying for S off... What kind of momo would pay 25 USD the second they receive the phone. Ended up paying $450 cdn for one after all the credits they gave me for the hassle.

If it makes you feel better, I went through 3 Galaxy S6s with defects before I went to the M9. Yeah, I'm not happy with this onr, but it's more the camera and the heat that's ruining my experience. I'm just not sure why the hell you paid for S-Off 4 times. After the first, I would have waited to make sure the phone was FLAWLESS.

Is the replacement with T-Mobile or asurion? Or another private insurance..I remember with my wifes note4 they gave us a new phone right there in the store..and it was past the 15 days return policy...but then again it was Verizon not T-Mobile

Hello boys and girls.
Would you be so kind to explain me how to understand if my htc one m9 is refurbished? Tried ##778# code and it does not work for me. And my phone is not rooted also.
Thank You in advance.
Best Regards,
So the third replacement they sent me (fourth phone) was also defected. So I finally called @HTC and explained to them what happened. They're sending me a new device, not some cleaned up BS used device. The one they will send me is going to be brand new. Good guys HTC (warranty).
Hello all,
So basically I've ordered the G4 (actually not knowing about the issue) and I'm picking it up tomorrow. However, what serial numbers are an absolute no-go and , did LG release a new revision? I am aware that 505 is a no-go but what about 601, 607, 608? As far as I'm concerned 608 is the one to have as it does not fail. I am confused and is it possible to see the serial on the box?
It's a H815 - Black leather EU version. Now the place I'm buying it from has excellent service so warranty ( 2 years ) is not a problem, although I reaaalllyy don't want to go through the hassle again with my LG being sent back two times for the plastic cracking.
Price is 350 euros ( which is because of the amazing service which I value a lot at the place I'm buying it from.)
I was contemplating the Mate S but it's too slow and no android 7, LG nexus 5X has the same problems and for 50 euros more the LG is much better.
Please help
Well, I had a dual sim version and it went in bootloop 2 weeks back, after trying everything I had to return it to the vendor as it was still under one year warranty, now waiting for their answer, I have always used Samsung, S1, S2, S3, S5 and got G4 as primary phone in Jan16, such issue never happened with Samsung, I still have S2, S3 and S5 and they all run without any problem, I won't get any LG phone ever.

Can you please share the EAN-code and first three digits of the serial number?

Hello all,
So basically I've ordered the G4 (actually not knowing about the issue) and I'm picking it up tomorrow.

The serial number is written on the sticker on the outside of the box. This will either start with 50X... or 60X...
If it's a 50X model, I would return it without opening the box at all because some of these companies (especially those on Amazon) just hold piles of old stock. Without opening the box, it's an easy return.
I'm using a 60X model and it's a great phone. That said; I have had the occasional flash of static on one side of the screen which was really worrisome at first. It's basically a split second glitch on the screen and is seemingly harmless and only occurs a few times per week. I'm happy to live with that and didn't bother returning the phone.
It may or may not boot loop. Judging from internet though there are very very few reports of 6xx S/N going boot loop. You also have to keep in mind that not all of those reports are real just like with the Samsung explode-gate. There are many ppl who like to report false alerts just because. I don't see too many reports of 6xx going bad. The vast majority of them were the 505's. I blame LG though for all of this. They tried to cover it up never acknowledged it publicly. They sent an email admitting the problem to one Android fan site can't remember which it was and that was all. Meanwhile it took them too long to identify the issue. I don't believe the latest S/N's have this problem. I don't see enough evidence to support this. LG should have come in public and say that they finally fixed it once and for all and say from which S/N and after it's safe. but they didn't. I assume they didn't want to deal with the extra costs of the PR nightmare, the recalls and angry customers and stores.
Alrighty, got myself a 607 version which is great. Black leather with gold buttons, in the beginning I was kinda hesitant because I was expecting the grey buttons but tbh the gold on black looks really classy. Amazing camera. Unfortunately the screen has a yellowish tint to it but I fixed it thanks to this wonderful app Screen balance ( I really was not expecting it to be this good, it basically eliminated the use of a modified kernel because unlike all other apps it runs as an accessibility service.) I will probably post about it.
Two weeks ago, a black smudge randomly appeared on screen when I went to take a photo. Quick Google search suggested some dust infiltration / a material breakdown in the camera. Some people wrote that they got RMA units after complaining to Google. These complaints were around a year old, so I assume they had warranty. I wanted to ask Google but there's no P2 selection to complain about hardware issues? How can I get this to their attention? Could I get a replacement so late in its product life?

If you're on the stock ROM, you can use that to contact Pixel Support.
Or the website: https://support.google.com/store/troubleshooter/3070579#ts=7168940
Depending on when the person you bought it from bought it, it should still be covered under the two year warranty.
Good luck.

Thanks for the help and link! I'll contact the seller for purchase info, but I did notice that everything says 1 year warranty. Did I miss some extension info?

It was widely reported on during the first week of release.

Although, some of the warranty terms only say one year, so you'll probably need to verify with Google for your country.
The US warranty terms say one year, but I filed my claim two weeks ago and Google processed it as expected.
