its not so much the money, if i take it to a private party they will fix it for me right in front of me take it to a place like that they may say it will be done in 3 days which i would prefer to avoid because its my only phone period no home phone just my cell, i wonder how much anyway i have the digitizer seller said was OEM replacement which means same one that motoroola would use just need it installed

If you look on their main page it says they have an 8 hour turn around for mail and 15 minute turn around for local repairs (including screen replacement).

hmm i wonder what their price is if they look at my replacement digitizer and say ya this is OEM its fine, so they just have to install not provide the digitizer

They have an "877" # you can call. They might be able to work with you on it. Good luck!

Too bad you're so far away...
I'm in the San Diego area and I could have done it in under 30 minutes.
The Atrix is very easy to open and fix. The digitizer is not even glued to the LCD panel!
Good luck!

now you tell me... i would have taken the metrolink to oceanside then the coaster to san diego

i had to deal with something like this before with my G2, or Desire Z.
Its best to just buy the parts and then have a third party do the "service" part.
Then again, there are some pretty intricate teardown guides I am sure.
It takes guts though...and a dust free room lol.
See if you can negotiate with a local repair store like that one recommended in the thread and see if you can pay about 60-70 for the digitizer installation.
Then figure out how you can get a digitizer off ebay or something OEM under 40.
Its possible, I think.

well its done i went to the shop by me, it took a hour they supplied the digitzer 100 bucks

aaaargh...screen cracked..orbit...helppppp

hi my phone was in my pocket today for a whle
took it out
and noticed two deep scratches.i have a screen protector on..
this was quite deep
so took off the protector to find the ctual glass appears to have cracked not shattered
if i push it i can hear nosie of glass rubbing and it will move slightly more in..
what can i do
i can see two clear crack going across the screen
when i locked the handset
to unlock the unlock button works by pressing a certain area a the crack is over it..
help what can i do
no insurance with o2 at all
helppp
i live in west london if that helps ...shops etc.
You had best take out some insurance, then in about a month say you dropped it?
The best solution is: You can send it off to ppctechs: http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main.asp?unit=HTC_Artemis-627&area=accessories-writeshield%AE+crystal
2nd best: You can replace it yourself with a kit: http://cgi.ebay.com/OEM-LCD-Screen-...1241845QQihZ016QQcategoryZ41343QQcmdZViewItem
erm..whaty insuracne company iwll allow me to do that ive had the orbit for over 5 months
secondly thanks but the site is uncelar of what i need to buy do i send the phone to them etc.
standard house insurance normally covers - if your on o2 then you cant take out insurance after the first 14 days - unlike orange where you can pay £60 emergency insurance out and claim immediately followed by £6/month thereafter. In my extensive experience of network insurances (Im a plasterer, alot of phones get broken / damaged) 02 insurance aint worth **** - may as well use home contents insurance.
ive not had too much of an issue with them, barring the £35 base fee... delivered to your door in 24 hrs...

I wish I could find one for around 75$ that's about all I'm budgeted for, I found this :
http://www.cellphone-repair-shop.co...g-black-sprint-galaxy-s-2-rear-battery-cover/
The have everything even the camera, but the prices everywhere are ridiculous.
bring it to a sprint store and agree to pay the 35 dollar fee and add insurance after wards and they will fix it for you if they have a spare one.
sprint techs are very helpful and usually fix cracked screen if person adds insurance.
i need to find a sprint store that has a technician first cause all the ones i have called say no also if i sign up for insurance can i cancel it the next month??
You probably could cancel it. I know down here a broken screen costs 30$ to fix with the sprint technician

I just replaced my screen 30 minutes ago. Bought a housing off Ebay for $80 and replaced it myself. You just need a #00 phillips screwdriver and a plastic prying tool.
I'm up in NorCal, if you were closer I'd do it for you just for the price of parts.

If you know somebody that works for sprint we can add insurance for you them just run the claim for $100, then cancel the insurance. I would recommend insurance tho.

Dont know anyone personally that works at sprint.
I called my Sprint Rep since my account is a Business account i got my phone last oct or nov 2011 and she said the only thing she could do is hook me up with an early upgrade and get the same phone for $120 but that doing this would extend my contract. Dont want to do that first i want to see whats up with Sprints network and phone line up for this year.
Anyone that works at sprint that is in my area hit me up pm or something.

I saw 10 of them when I was looking for my replacement. Here's one for $90 as a buy-it-now. http://goo.gl/OqJZj
They seem to come and go all the time, I would look and see 3-4 and then 3 hours later see 10 or so. 3 hours after that I would see only 2. I missed getting a white housing for $80 (just something to change up my phone).
-Daryel
here's the thing. any kind of super AMOLED screen (epics, epic touches, nexuses) are going to be extremely expensive. im actually a lead technician in a preferred retailer store and know for a fact that corporate stores will not fix shattered screens. plus, we are not allowed to exchange the phone for another due to the amount of physical damage. THE ONLY way we can fix those screens is if you yourself come into the store with the part, or we are able to find parts for cheap. because there is such a shortage of each screen from reputable 3rd party dealers, finding a store to fix it for you isn't going to really work. REALLY should have gotten insurance.
if i did have insurance how much would it have cost to getting this fixed?

Samsung charges less for screen repair

I recently cracked my GS3, and while I may have to wait a little longer it is cheaper than any replacements I was able to find online. On my device the LCD was broken but the glass was flawless, and samsung charged me $180, i believe the cheapest I saw the screen+digi for was around $210. Just food for thought, oh and the best part is I still get to keep my manufacturers warranty.

I never buy insurance since most of my credit cards already double manufacture warranty/purchase protection. Apparently the one I used does not. I bought the phone off contract and a local repair shop will charge me $350... Am I officially the world's biggest idiot?
I would buy one off craigslist and sell your broken on ebay to offset the cost. I'm sure you could get upwards of $100 for it. Sell the S pen separately to potentially make a few more bucks. Or I would buy a Nexus 4.
damn dude sorry about that just pay to get the screen fixed.... it shouldnt be that much.. i live in florida and there are a few places that fix them for comparable prices.. then get insurance brother..

You just broke the glass, aka the "digitizer" -?-
Good News if the AMOLED is intact:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/orig...-N7100-GT-N7100-Digitizer-free/674248669.html
However, you will also need:
A Heat Gun, or an extra hot hair dryer--
And some special adhesive.
3M makes a special-strong type of two-sided adhesive that you could cut with an exacto knife.
It isn't as hard as you think, it just takes patience and very strong desire to save yourself $300.
And more patience.
Worst case scenario, you'll botch the LCD behind it, but---
You can get the replacement assembly of the LCD/digitizer for $315-

The reason it's so expensive is that you need to replace the LCD, Digtizer, and the glass since they are all glued together. I may just suck it up and live with a cracked screen since it still functions. I'm assuming it would be too late to buy insurance now right?
Have you priced it from Samsung yet? I thought it was in the upper 200s from Samsung.

Does your credit card have a 90 day retail purchase protection (ie. protection against theft, accidental damage and loss)? Mines does, so you might want to check that out too. In any case, good luck and sorry to hear

Warning - Just my personal opinion. After all I am human.
I got to say that the real criminals are the insurance people. $200 to cancel the contract and for some of us would be the rest of the cost of the device. $130 for replacement is only $70 off of that $200 cancellation fee and for some of us is the rest of the cost of the device. And we pay $7.99 a month for 24 months just to do that? $7.99 X 24 months = $191.76. $191.76 + $130 = $321.76. Now who is the criminal?
Now after saying that I do have insurance. That is despite how I feel about the insurance I love this Galaxy Note 2 enough to spend the extra money. The $300 mail-in rebate almost pays for the insurance and a replacement.
But otherwise it is worth canceling the contract and waiting out for another month to start again.
Im sorry that happened to you. I threw my nexus a couple months ago because I have uncontrollable rage and just lose it. I felt bad afterwards so I know how you feel. But I just went out and bought a new s3 so it was worth it in the end. It was so cool to see that 400 dollar phone just blow up in a million pieces when it hit that ladies car....priceless

you could do the insurance thing and just wait. as far as sending to samsung, I would probably unroot, you can just odin to stock and then restore your apps later with whatever rom. Not sure why people make a big deal about this, really the same procedure when switching roms and people do that all the time.
Buy insurance now, wait 2 weeks and then ship it back for a replacement, no biggie. People want to judge you, f-them.

[Q] Cracked LCD - Need to unroot, go back to stock, etc.

I guess it was bound to happen, and I'm the first on this forum to fall victim to it. My phone slipped out of my pocket today getting out of the car and the top right corner of the LCD screen is smashed. Surprisingly everything else is perfectly fine, but this being the "fused LCD" and all that jazz, the whole touch panel is not working any longer though I can see everything fine (except for a hairline leak down the side). Anyway, so I was just looking for advice on how to go about this but first things first...
Unroot and Bootloader
Being development savvy, as soon as I got the phone I rooted it and later installed Project FreeGee to unlock the bootloader. I was wondering if it's safe to unroot the phone while the bootloader is still unlocked, or if I should go about doing this at all (considering this is hardware damage, not anything else).
I was also wondering what's the recommended course of action for replacements with this phone? I've taken apart and replaced the LCD/Digitizer/etc. many times for my friends' iPhones myself by just buying screens off Ebay. However, this Optimus G with its insanely expensive display and fused technology has some other problems..
Ebay cost for LCD/Digitizer assembly - $140 (incl. shipping and tax)
Ouch right? I was wondering if its better to just send the phone back to LG and pay them to repair it, maybe it'll be cheaper that way? Does anybody have experience with this sort of thing?
Honestly right now I'm willing to take any advice I can get, please help a fellow Optimus G lover out.
And please don't make the mistake I did, it's hard on the wallet.
I found this post and i was wondering if you had any progress on fixing your screen. This weekend, my phone fell off a counter and cracked the digitizer to the point of it not working, but the LCD is still working. I filed a claim with my credit card's accidental damage protection and they should be crediting my purchase price.
I found a store, locally, that repairs cell phones and they want $200 to replace the screen, otherwise I can buy the part for $160 online and do it myself. What did you end up doing?

Wow you're lucky. I opened up the phone myself as I'm a technician (though not for LG) and I unfortunately found out that the LCD is fused/soldered/glued onto the chassis of the phone. It's impossible to get the LCD off unless you somehow manage to rip it off but I was unable to do so.
Check out the tear-down of the Nexus 4 (very similar to our Optimus G) http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+4+Teardown/11781/3.
I've contacted the local LG Service Provider but I highly doubt they'll be able to do anything for me. I'm glad that you were able to find someone to do it for you, even at the price of $200. I hope I can also. Let me know how it goes!
As i know, the gorilla on OG are laminated over display which has touch screen built in (I think thats the reason it so expensive), so i dont think you can do same thing by yourself without proper instruments.
sorry to hear this bud. since this is a relatively new phone, i don't suppose you purchased it on a credit card did ya? sometimes you may be able to claim accidental damage for upto 90 days on a CC purchase. worth looking into if you havent already. saved me a few times.

That's not the reason, as the assembly comes with glass laminated over the LCD without a problem. The problem is that that whole assembly (glass, LCD, digitizer) is all fused TO the frame. However, when you go to buy a part, they only sell you the LCD/glass/digitizer combo. That's my problem

Another thing to look into is to see whether or not its too late to purchase accidental damage coverage that some wireless providers sell. Rogers allows you to buy it within 15 days of purchasing the device. So depending on who you purchased the device from, maybe that is an option also (ignoring the moral issues with this)

Haha, unfortunately I bought it factory OEM unlocked but wow that's a great idea for the future. Also, just to update everyone I have submitted it to a local repair shop for $150.00 including parts, labor and taxes. According to them, they will get the part in 2-3 days, and by as early as Saturday or as late as Monday, I will get my phone back.
Here's hoping to everything goes well.

Hi,
I have relatively the same problem that you've had. If you could let me know how the ordeal went, and the name of the shop. (I'm somewhat close to the GTA area)
Thanks
It went a lot better than expected. They were able to successfully replace the screen in 3 days. I got it done from Oakville Tech for $150, but remember they'll have to order the part so it does take a few days. My friend also has the exact same phone and got it done at Tech Know Space (Toronto & Mississauga) and they have the screen in stock, takes 2 hours, costs $200.
