I never buy insurance since most of my credit cards already double manufacture warranty/purchase protection. Apparently the one I used does not. I bought the phone off contract and a local repair shop will charge me $350... Am I officially the world's biggest idiot?

I would buy one off craigslist and sell your broken on ebay to offset the cost. I'm sure you could get upwards of $100 for it. Sell the S pen separately to potentially make a few more bucks. Or I would buy a Nexus 4.

damn dude sorry about that just pay to get the screen fixed.... it shouldnt be that much.. i live in florida and there are a few places that fix them for comparable prices.. then get insurance brother..

You just broke the glass, aka the "digitizer" -?-
Good News if the AMOLED is intact:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/orig...-N7100-GT-N7100-Digitizer-free/674248669.html
However, you will also need:
A Heat Gun, or an extra hot hair dryer--
And some special adhesive.
3M makes a special-strong type of two-sided adhesive that you could cut with an exacto knife.
It isn't as hard as you think, it just takes patience and very strong desire to save yourself $300.
And more patience.
Worst case scenario, you'll botch the LCD behind it, but---
You can get the replacement assembly of the LCD/digitizer for $315-

The reason it's so expensive is that you need to replace the LCD, Digtizer, and the glass since they are all glued together. I may just suck it up and live with a cracked screen since it still functions. I'm assuming it would be too late to buy insurance now right?

Have you priced it from Samsung yet? I thought it was in the upper 200s from Samsung.

It was actually quoted for $170 through Samsung. Do you think I need to unroot the phone, or is that totally irrelevant?

So glad to see that the criminal element is alive and well on XDA.

Does your credit card have a 90 day retail purchase protection (ie. protection against theft, accidental damage and loss)? Mines does, so you might want to check that out too. In any case, good luck and sorry to hear

Warning - Just my personal opinion. After all I am human.
I got to say that the real criminals are the insurance people. $200 to cancel the contract and for some of us would be the rest of the cost of the device. $130 for replacement is only $70 off of that $200 cancellation fee and for some of us is the rest of the cost of the device. And we pay $7.99 a month for 24 months just to do that? $7.99 X 24 months = $191.76. $191.76 + $130 = $321.76. Now who is the criminal?
Now after saying that I do have insurance. That is despite how I feel about the insurance I love this Galaxy Note 2 enough to spend the extra money. The $300 mail-in rebate almost pays for the insurance and a replacement.
But otherwise it is worth canceling the contract and waiting out for another month to start again.

Im sorry that happened to you. I threw my nexus a couple months ago because I have uncontrollable rage and just lose it. I felt bad afterwards so I know how you feel. But I just went out and bought a new s3 so it was worth it in the end. It was so cool to see that 400 dollar phone just blow up in a million pieces when it hit that ladies car....priceless

you could do the insurance thing and just wait. as far as sending to samsung, I would probably unroot, you can just odin to stock and then restore your apps later with whatever rom. Not sure why people make a big deal about this, really the same procedure when switching roms and people do that all the time.

Buy insurance now, wait 2 weeks and then ship it back for a replacement, no biggie. People want to judge you, f-them.

T-Mobile insurance. Is it worth it?

I wanted to start this thread as sort of an informative type of thread. I know there will be other people wondering the same thing. I haven't had t-mobile in years and only dealt with sprint Asurion insurance.
I have been offered t-mobile insurance and I'm not really sure if it would be worth getting it. There were three options given and I wanted to get some insight from some customers that have gone through the insurance in the past. I am leaning towards the middle one that I think was 4.79.
Is this a good insurance to have or should I get the higher priced one that extends the warranty to two years?
Are there any issues over the phone when trying to get a replacement due to software or hardware issues?
How are the refurbs that are sent as replacement?
Here are the two options

I went squaretrade too, with coupon code it was only $90 and covers 2 years and by then I will be on a completely diff phone anyway..
if they cover screen replacement or water damage, it's a decent protection, if you are ... accident prone like me
i used to take those insurance, when i was in school and couldn't afford a new device very often.
once i started getting better jobs, i stopped taking those, as i was switching from phone to phone before i can even crack the old phone

Yeah that's kinda where I'm at with it. I am very careful with my phones and usually go through phones pretty quick. I will feel much better about it once I get a case. I always feel like I'm going to drop this thing. I don't know if it's the weight or the slender build.
i just use the tmobil insurance u brick or wreck ur phone u take it into tmobil they replace it with a new one or refurbished one!
have you looked at the Best Buy insurance?
they are pretty fair and fool prof and it's affordable but the rates varies from phone to phone, so you might want to check in store

I got my phone through wirefly so I don't know if Bestbuy would warranty a purchase that wasn't at their store.
I did notice that squaretrade doesn't cover loss or theft so that wouldn't be an option.
I am leaning toward the PHP insurance option through T-mobile. Anybody here ever had any issues with that particular type of insurance?

Thats the thing i dont like the no loss of theft. but that deductible is killer. i wonder if there is a way to sweet talk them. and i do understand its a deterrent to prevent people from breaking there phone to get the updated hardware as they make revisions or lie and say they lost the phone so they can get a dev phone.

Baaed on the answers, I'm thinking that going the insurance route is the best option. This phone feels fragile so I'm going to cover my butt. I think the 4.79 insurance will do. Plus I can cancel at any time which makes It a better deal. I lobe this phone but I know from past experiences that I will probably keep it less than a year.

i got it as well. i would rather pay a little extra so im not always worried about the phone. better to have it and not need then to need and not have. replace the phone once and its payed for its self.
ive had/have premium asurion insurance thru tmobile. they cover 3 phones in a 12 month period. i know because ive lost 4 phones already and was left with no choice but to buy the sgs2 lol.
the deductible is what kills you. for any smart phone whether its damaged, lost or stolen, you have to pay 130.00 PERIOD and that includes free overnight shipping. if you order your new phone monday morning you will have it by tuesday afternoon. theres no sweet talking or getting yourself out of that deductible EVER. if your a clutz like me the insurance is worth it. 130 beats 500 any day.
asurion covers stolen, lost, theft, water damage, etc. i guess they dont really care what your excuse is for whatever happened to your phone because your getting ass raped with a deductible. either way i WOULD recommend them. its a small price to pay and believe if you ever do lose your phone you will be more than thankful that you had insurance on it
They are both worth it. DO NOT go with tie protection plan. They never keep up their end. It's pointless and it's money down the drain. With T-Mobile insurance and warranty... you get a phone... you damage it... there is a deductible. If it's the phone itself, the warranty covers it. Better to pay the deductible then retail of the phone. The phones aren't getting cheaper. You have to think MSRP.
I've been selling phones for dealers and corp for 5+ years. Insurance is a double edged sword. Yes it costs more monthly, yes it adds up and yes there is a deductible. So it's a gamble. Is it worth it? Yes. Is it worth it if nothing goes wrong with the phone? No. But that's the gamble.
Warranty... Personally I'll pass. I don't keep phones past the first year. The phone is covered by manufacturer warranty and I believe the carrier will handle the swap for you. You're paying for the second year in contract for the warranty part... So you pay it the first year when it's covered anyway.
Insurance covers everything... then there is a deductible. Anything happens to the phone, you make a claim and get one the next day. Handled by Asurion.
If you add up the monthly charge for insurance alone + the deductible... you're looking at about $250. If nothing happens and you keep your phone, then you paid insurance for nothing. But that's just insurance... that's how insurance works. If you break it, lose it or get it wet within the first couple months... pay the deductible and get a new one... was insurance worth it? Yes.
Next year... let's say something happens... you've been paying on insurance, pay the deductible. Could you maybe have bought the phone from someone else and saved a little coin? Yes.
It's basically good to have insurance if something happens in the first few months. I recommend putting it on at first and maybe ween yourself off it. But some of you are like me...
Am I too cheap to pay for insurance? Yes.
Will I get insurance? Probably for the first couple months.
Do I have the phone for 6+ months? No.
If I don't have insurance, am I willing to drop $500+ on the latest phone? Sure. I guess I have to.

[Q] Has anyone tried the ZAGGSafe Smartphone Warranty?

I searched but don't see a similar thread. ZAGG is offering a two year smartphone warranty for $99 that covers unlocked phones, also covers water damage with a $59 deductable...I think it will be cheaper than paying monthly insurance premiums. Probably most savings if you will stay with your phone for ~2 years. Something to consider?

Edit: 10% off @squaretrade with coupon "TENFTEN" = $112 for 2 years

Random question, if my gps is really bad on my phone, can I go to sprint and switch it for a refurb even if I don't have TEP? It's about 7 months old.. or am I just pretty much screwed?

I would think that would be considered a hardware defect and should be covered under your Samsung warranty.
Problem is, I don't see anything about lost/stolen, which is covered in TEP.

I've never lost a phone, just pointing out what may be a deciding factor in coverage for some. It would seem if you don't have a phone to send them, essentially, you won't be covered. I agree, it does look good for damage/defect, but I'd wait for a few hundred consumer reviews before taking the plunge.

Broken Galaxy S3

So last night after I flashed the intrigue romI bricked my phone. Not in the sense of the phone crashing but I dropped it and the screen shattered into many bits and pieces. after having it for a week it got damaged. Im not gonna try to repair it because I have insurance so I'm getting a replacement.
The reason I'm sharing my expirience is so that if you are within 14 days of buying your S3 make sure you add insurance! It cost:
130 dollars to replace through asurion
218 dollars to buy the part on ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...018?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e70d3e9ca
or 600 dollars to buy a brand new S3.
Take it from me a very careful person. Things like this can happen and you will regret not buying insurance if anything ever happens in the future.
Ill upload pics so you guys can see what happened.
Damn, sorry to hear that. I second the device insurance. It saved my ass quite a few times, its worth paying the $6 to $7 a month.

I insured my phones through my homeowners insurance. No deductible, covers theft, loss, damage including software issues. For a Galaxy Nexus valued at $450 and a GS3 valued at $650 it cost $39 for a year. Don't let Asurion screw you.

Not all homeowners cover it. State Farm doesn't.
I went through square trade. It was $48 for one year accidental $100 deductible.
I just filed a claim through them and they put $500 in my PayPal account.. Yay! Hopefully my s3 doesn't meet a similar fate lol.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
It's just like insuring your engagement rings or expensive art or something. I have a hard time believing state farm wouldn't do it. Call your homeowners or renters insurance provider. When I called mine (safe Co) the rep didn't know that could be done, but looked it up and did it for me. The he said he was paying through his carrier and was going to do it for his own phone. Although I've never made a claim, if it were lost or stolen you would need a police report. Then they would send you a check for the insured amount. If its damaged and repairable, they'd reimburse you for the repair. There's no reason you should'nt check it out through your provider.
That sounds like a huge hassle. With asurion just call and you get it over nighted free. Plus I know when you file claims on your homeowners or renters insurance it works the same as you filing a claim on car insurance. When you sign up for a different insurance (say you find a cheaper homeowners ) don't they charge you more premium? At least with asurion I know if anything happens anytime as often as it does with any phone that is covered I can get t replaced asap. And I mean the next day.
If there are other better ways to insure your phone please advice. I just think asurion is really good because I pay and get my phone right away. Being the android addict that I am I would rather pay $ and have my phone right away than have to wait to get reimbursed for a repair or get money through PayPal.

Cracked Screen replace by Samsung 178 bucks.

It seems cheaper then buying the screen on your own, but this will void your warranty that what's the rep told me....
They said them replacing the screen will void your warranty?
Also, yeah that seems pretty cheap. I can't personally find the screen assembly online for cheaper than that.

Yea, but when I had it replace they said my warranty is intact if replaced by them so I don't know ...It's worth the 178 bucks they pretty much only keep the outer shell of your own phone and the some parts back cover and battery and sylus but pretty much the whole lcd assmbly is replace no heating nothing they just move some stuff over and give you back your phone...The guy did it in 30mins.
Be careful to now allow the technician to scratch or dent any part of your phone. Just a heads up if you are planning to swap displays.

I don't understand your logic. They WANT your phone to have problems so that they can charge you additional fees for repairs, why would they prevent future repairs? What is the point for them to save money? They WANT money. That is why they are doing the business!!
FWIW the screen & front glass module are separate from the chassis, unlike the S3. I was really happy to find that out Unfortunately, the glass and screen are fused together though.
Seeing the S3 screen removal videos it gets pretty ugly with those.
Same thing happened to me but i was told since i have insurance to just file a claim with asurion and they would cover it for 130. Tmo wouldnt do it cause i couldnt get the stupid binary count back down to 0 even though i used triangle away app. I did read that sometimes it knows it down, sometimes it stays at 1, and sometimes it doesnt work at all. So i tried and it didnt work. But asurion wont care if youre rooted or not. Same price. $130 if you have them as your insurance.

Just got a letter in the mail from T-Mo. Insurance is going up to $11 (or $12?)/month with a $175 deductible beginning March for the Note 2. I'm dropping the insurance. Ain't worth it.
I'm dropping insurance around May/June that way if something happens to my device I'll just buy a new device altogether. I personally believe more people would use insurance of all types if the premiums weren't so high AND you got back at least half your money per year if you don't file a claim only seems fair

Note to anyone getting this phone

Don't get me wrong, this phone is sexy as all hell and it's amazing to have, but PLEASE DEFINITELY GET INSURANCE, Because I know so many people who's brand new + shattered itself to pieces in more ways than one. Thanks :good:
I think I have had this phone for a month now. I do not have insurance on the phone, how would I go about getting insurance?

Where did you find all of the people with who have screens that cracked by them selves. I only counted 3 in your other thread of this forum and found 0 in all of the other edge + forums on xda including the international section. As with everything ever created on the planet their will be a certain number of defects. Some will be on public forums , some wont but it is no reason to start fear mongering.

Call t-mobile and ask them to add insurance for 8$ a month. Deductible is 175$ but that's cheaper than 900$ for a total out of pocket replacement
900 dollars? I bought a new sealed tmob s6edge plus for 580.00.

T-Mobile never asked if you want the coverage when you bought it? They tend to offer you everything they can to meet their monthly sales quotas, surprised they didn't, but if it's been 30 days like you said, it's too late now, you're SOL. Same with Square Trade, seems like 30 days is the standard to decide if you want insurance or not. You don't get forever to enroll, like a car or a house, it'd be too easy, having no insurance, break your phone, buy the insurance then. The next day, file a claim, pay the $175 deductible and wait for a refurbed one, in the mail. Essentially, scoring a $700 or more phone for just $175, never needing to pay the monthly premium and canceling the insurance after receiving the phone...
Wouldnt be realistic... The cell phone insurance industry, wouldn't be in existance if they allowed enrollment anytime or just whenever you're convenient! Its a business for profit industry, not a charitible one. ObamaPhonecares got my vote!

What?? So you never checked to find out the phones market price, prior to paying the $580? How do you usually establish an items value? Asking since the process is obviously foreign to you, how do you prevent yourself from gettin ripped off, every time you buy something or what steps do you take to inform yourself that you aren't over paying on your purchases?
Its clear you got lucky with this phone, as you're now just learning this but, much after forking over nearly 6 notes on it, I'm picturing a loose canon for some reason.. .
I wouldn't be too surprised, either, if you're in the wrong forum, this one's for the S6 Edge+ <---- (notice the "plus" sign at the end), not to be confused with the S6 Edge <---- (no plus sign)..
Differences: 1/2 inch of more screen, 1GB of RAM, 400mAh battery and about $100-150 more in retail price on the "+" model.
See history repeating itself all the time, as I'm having a strong sense of it here..
Wages on this... anyone?
Look on swappa.com . they advertise on xda for christ sake. S6 edge+ for 580.00 they have att, tmobile and sprint..protected by paypal payment system. I have bought 6 phones and never had a problem. I have been on xda for 3 yrs and have been modding phones since 2009.
Phones aren't cracking themselves. Idiots are cracking them due to user error then running amuck online with BULLCHIT stories in an attempt to justify their own mistake.

Absolutely true! I have dropped my edge+ more times than I want to admit and it has come out unscathed. Granted, I've got a Spigen case and a screen protector but it's taken some 4ft drops and survived.
Ive dropped mine a lot over the past two weeks on concrete, tile and metal. Mostly against the carpet floor. Im using a hybrid verus high pro shield case and some screen protector from dmax armor that is already coming off.
Ive read the dramatic instant shatter posts and it made me extremely paranoid. But then i fell asleep with it a few nights in a row completely pressed against it with my body and no harm or foul.
Im definately not a extra careful user but i do invest in protection and i use my phone from 0300 to 2100 and some nights later until i fall asleep.
So basically, @LiniXpir8, you are technology addict like the rest of us here? Lol.
