unroot help - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have searched on here but cant find the answer i need.
Im tring to unroot for insurance purposes. i have all the htc sync drivers installed and ive tried to run all 3 wwe ruu's.
The problem im having is two of the ruu's hit error 170 usb cable error. If i run 2.29.405.5 it says my batt is below 30% but its fully charged?
Any help anyone?

Are you using the original USB cable?

I am Yeh.

Try the gingerbread ruu. Also try different usb ports.

Going to try now. Thanks for advice

still no good.
i have also tried the froyo ruu but it also says usb error. i can read and write to my sd in the phone fine and htc sync works also.

1. Try 2.29.405.5 on another computer.
I saw this error on my old desktop, maybe it related to old USB1 controller.
Then I changed PC to another and it was ok.
2. Create goldcard, in case if 2.29.405.5 will display error 131 (CID error) and retry 2.29.405.5
NOTES:
I did it successfully,
I run file RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
Please let me know if this helped you.

[Q] OTA 2.29.405.2 and rooted with unrevoked - bricked *help*

Hi guys,
Got an OTA message and installed without thinking twice *my bad*
I have stock froyo, rooted with unrevoked. Now the OTA failed (signature verification), I had this issue in the past with the Froyo OTA and the solution then was to disable the signature verification so I did this again.
Install worked but now the phone just shows the "htc" startup screen over and over again (is this a bootloop?)
When I try to boot into recovery I just get a red triangle and an exclamation mark and that's it so I am guessing it's bricked
Anybody any ideas?
Thanks!
B
I would suggest the easiest thing to do is download the 2.29.405.2 RUU from shipped roms and run that.
You will then be unrooted.
You can then check for updates again or root.
Be aware tho, that this will wipe your phone.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the feedback
"I would suggest the easiest thing to do is download the 2.29.405.2 RUU from shipped roms and run that."
can you get me started here... no idea where to start
I did manage to get into the android system recovery, but when I run the update.zip I get a "signature verification failed"
Would it be an option to rename my OTA Froyo zip to "update.zip"?
Cheers
B
Yep, you could try that...
You can find the RUU for your current rom here - http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
If you flash the RUU, boot your phone into fastboot (power + back), connect to PC, wait till it says fastboot usb the run the RUU.

thx!
I just run the exe file then?
extra question: Is this the UK version? I'm from Belgium so I would like to get my languages back...
Cheers
B
Yep, just run the exe file.
The ROM is a WWE which is a European version so should have the languages.
Have you always been on the 2.29.405.2 rom? Or is this different to the original rom?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
ok I see the fastboot USB appearing but the RUU says "usb connection error" grrr
should I select something from the menu? bootloader or something?
Cheers
B
I don't think you have to select anything once in fastboot.
What version of Windows are you running? Can you try running the exe as administrator?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I'm running XP and I am administrator... maybe something to do with drivers?
cheers
B
You could try installing htcsync if you don't have it already...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Hi Mike,
Installed HTC Sync which installed some drivers... Now I get "HBOOT USB PLUG" instead of "HBOOT USB"
RUU gives same error
I'm gonna get a sd-to-micro-sd adapter tomorrow and try the update.zip thing
Thanks already for the help!!
Cheers
B
Ok, let us know how you get on.

FYI
I push/pulled the battery and I got back the "fastboot USB" and now the RUU goes a bit further... he sees my image version (2.29.405.2), I select "update" and I can upgrade to the same version... then RUU says waiting for bootloader, the phone goes black with white HTC logo and after about 20 seconds I get again the USB connection error
cheers
B
Have you tried turning off any anti virus software you have on your pc?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
just found out that I can't do that, I have no rights to disable virusscan (work-pc) I'll try the update.zip
come to think about it, I think I've deleted the downloaded froyo OTA zip file to make room on my sd card, do you know where I can download it?
Cheers mate!
B
Not too sure which update you received but, if you download this...
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.zip
And rename it to PB99IMG.zip, put it on the root of your SD card and reboot your phone into recovery (power + vol down). The file will get picked up and the 2.29.405.2 rom should be installed after following any prompts.
You'll be in the same position as running the RUU but obviously, you need access to your SD card.
HTH

thanks!! will go for it tomorrow... fingers crossed!
B
Was about to say the PB99IMG method is a lot easier than mucking around with the PC not seeing the phone...it should work but remember if you were branded before you will need a gold card
Yep, thanks Eddy.
If you were not on the unbranded rom originally, you will need a goldcard.
Cheers for confirming my suggestions
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
ok downloaded the file, renamed it and put it in the root of my sd
When I press volume down + power I arrive in the HBOOT menu.
After a short while I get following output
loading PB99DIAG.ZIP
no image
loading PB99DIAG.nbh
no image or wrong image
loading PB99IMG.zip
checking PB99IMG.zip
Then I get the question if I want to start update... Off course I selected yes
After the upgrade I got a prompt to reboot and after the reboot I was again in the out-of-the-box status!
Mike thank you very very very much for your help and patience! People like you are the reason this forum is so great!
Cheers!

[Q] Can't unroot my Desire - really stuck!

Hi guys. My first post on here I think, but I have been lurking a while and using a couple of the ROMs on the developers forum.
My Desire has a problem where it reboots itself whenever hot. This happened on the standard ROM but has continued when using custom ones also. I've been meaning to send it back to O2 for about a month now but haven't got round to it. I thought I better get it back to standard before I return it, but that's where things started to go wrong.
Both my work PC and laptop wouldn't entertain the phone being connected. HTC Sync could not see it. Downloadd the latest version, tried restarting with only Windows services running etc. but no joy.
So I brought the phone home and connected it to my home laptop, which detects it. I downloaded the SDK and installed the Google USB drivers, all seemed good. I tried to run the HTC ROM Update Utility, but have had various problems.
I am trying to use the O2 RUU from the forums here.
The most common problem is ERROR 140:BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR
I'm currently running a Froyo ROM.
I have also noticed, that if I reboot the phone to the bootloader and then plug the USB cable in, it goes back to the old Android 1.0 on device manager, which it only does if connected during bootloader. This cannot be changed, no matter how many different drivers I try to update it with.
Any help here would be much appreciated. My warranty expires in May!
Was your phone o2 branded originally?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
It was, yes.
You might need a goldcard even though your phone was originally o2. Also the failsafe solution is to extract the ruu zip file from the flashing utility, put it on the sd-card and let it flash it automatically.
This way you eliminate a lot of potential errors.
edit: error 140 is bootloader version error. It means your current bootloader is newer than the one in the ruu and the utility does not allow a downgrade. You will either need to find an o2 ruu with the newest bootloader or use a wwe one with a goldcard instead.
Your issue is not related to having a gold card inserted. The message is pretty clear: Your phones hboot is to new (or the RUUs is to old, if you want to put it that way). RUUs will typically not allow you to downgrade hboot. Try to find a newer RUU with a sufficient hboot version or if you are S-Off, find an older hboot and downgrade yourself via fastboot.
Regards.
Edit: sorry... haven't noticed the edit in the post above.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
OK thanks guys. I don't know what a goldcard is, I'm certain I never had to use one of those when I rooted the phone with the unRevoked method.
I may have found a better O2 ROM this morning, so will give that a try and let you know.
It worked! I'm onto an O2 Froyo ROM now

Either you didnt install the drivers first or you need to change your phone to htc sync instead of charge only.

once you install drivers it should be fine, they are located in the revolutionary website
i installled the drivers, but will try with HTC sync ...
does the HTC sync software need to be installed ? i read in a postthat it had to be removed in order for it to work.
Just found out my nand blocks are bad and need a replacement phone

What do I do now?

Have you turned on USB debugging on your phone?
Yeah tried everything I could find anywhere but everyone just says same troubleshooting, don't know if its worth mentioning that HTC sync won't even find my phone
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
have you set it to charge only? and you have made sure u have correct htc drivers? if you are using wildfire S, these are different to standard wildfire drivers
Nono normal wildfire HTC buzz everyone points to the unrevoked hacked usb drivers and they did nowt, and yeah charge only
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
have you tried a different PC or different cable? I remember before i tooted my phone, my HTC usb cable would charge my phone when connected to PC but would recognise it as a removable device, until i bought a shaver with the same usb lead - when i connected the phone using this 'unofficial' lead, it worked....also, the HTC lead now works on my new PC but still doesnt work on my old PC
can u elobrate your problem with revolutionary
can u elaborate your problem with revolutionary,& plz do provide details of your phone like hboot ver software ver in your next post & is your wildfire gsm or cdma
..or try these driver in the attachment by manually selecting the drivers while installiing(i personally used these drivers when i rooted my phone with revlotionary...)

downgrading doesnt work? Please respond

Hey guys, so ive rooted many phone and custom rommed them before (if theres such a word as "rommed") But im really stuck with this wildfire
Its running 2.2.1 froyo with Hboot 1.01.0002
what im trying to do is downgrade so i can install a custom recovery, flash roms and kernels etc.
i've done this once with a hboot 1.01.0001, its really easy
i just cant do it with 1.01.0002, i ran step 1, made a gold card and everything, ive tried about 5 times now following each step carefully, when using step2.bat it resets the phone multiple times and then step 2 closes and returns back to the Hboot menu with 1.01.0002 still.. why is this? Is it because im locked on virgin media (a sim carrier here in the UK)
please respond!
thanks, Jack
Do you get any errors? And have you tried a different SD card? Some don't play nice as gold cards. Best try another one if you haven't already and report back

Also after you run step 2 does anything change in your rom? If not then the ruu is not running. It should wipe everything, assuming that its a full ruu and not just a hboot.

OK that ruu error is the cid error I believe so the gold card is not working. Also of bat1 fails the ruu will fail as bat1 patches the misc partition so the ruu will believe the phone is on a lower hboot than it actually is. Then and only then will the ruu "upgrade" to the lower hboot. Then you are all set for revolutionary
But if you got bat1 to work without errors, and if your ruu spat out 131 then its probably your goldcard pal. I've always had good luck with sandisk SD cards, official of course
rocking out with my android powered ics sense-ation XE B-)
Brilliant, Ill give it a try soon with an sandisk SD Card, what a load of annoying stuff to do just to root the bloody thing :silly:
With my LG 2x its so easy haha, thanks for the help, if you could keep posted and ill report back when ive tried again
many thanks, Jack
That's cool man good luck
