Ok so I have gotten into launcher pro and now do not use sense... so I'm interested in aosp ... first off what is it? Why does it have its own kernels? And why would an aosp ROM be better than sense? Do you get better battery life? I guess in general I don't understand it and i didn't find on here where it talks about it.... any help would be great!
Hmm? Good question.
"Question"
AOSP is the Android Open Source Project. It builds from the released source code from google. It's the closest most phones can get to a "Google Experience" phone.
I'm not an expert on the kernels, but I believe that the source code released by the vendors is for reference purposes and not to be used in 3rd party ROMs. Someone else can give a much better answer on this than me.

Glad to see your actively contributing to android development!
At the very least you could have posted this in questions thread

This thread is a fail in multiple ways...
There are multiple kernels for aosp and for sense... different developers put them together. They offer different performance / battery life. Have to find the one that works the best for you.

SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH.
POST IN THE CORRECT SECTION POST IN THE CORRECT SECTION POST IN THE CORRECT SECTION POST IN THE CORRECT SECTION POST IN THE CORRECT SECTION
GOT IT!? I hope so.
anyways:
It means Android Open Source Project.
When you see an AOSP ROM, it means its as basic as it gets. No Sense, no nothing. It runs generally faster than a sense based ROM. You just don't get any of the visual flash. But thats just how it comes... you can then add some flash and make it beautiful, quick, and long lasting on battery life. Cyanogenmod is a beautiful, quick, and long lasting ROM that I highly recomend for your AOSP ROM. It will take some getting used to, but with a few apps and tweaks you wont even realize you aren't using sense anymore.
Master
everyone on these forums should know that the search feature is a load of cowsh*t!! take a look at what it returns when u search "what is aosp"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=58201161
*note that near the top the search engine says "The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search: what, is"
and not to mention 708 results is more than any human being on this forum or anywhere in the world would be willing to search thru. Yes it couldve been posted in the questions forum ill agree with that but give the man a break it was a very simple question that apparently is too simple for the xda search to find. He woulda been better off googling it. Why people get off on flamning people is beyond me. How many wanna be moderators do we have on these forums?
Nothing to do with people being wanna be mods. It has everything to do with filling the dev forums with crap.
A google search of either of these terms would have answered his question 100% and took less then it did for him to post this.
going to go ahead an throw my .02 cents in here, im going to the gym to get ready for Rehab LV for memorial day. another useless post like this thread.
When I was starting I had to learn everything from the basics and up. I think I posted 1 question. I just read everything i could. I have been doing this for only a few months, I don't know everything but I can get around just fine. These guys have a lot explained in threads and wiki.

it's all about what you like, after running the mikfroyo Rom for a while(sense Rom)and having tried CM6,CM7 nightlyz, I can honestly say that IMO those feel SLOW (CM6,7) in comparison...and everything works with sense. I agree that launcher pro is great and can add a lot more functionality, even with the dock alone...CM Mods you can customize the hell out of even change the notification bar color within the rom itself which is cool and tons of other things as well but I don't need all that..sense...IMO looks better overall as a user interface , sure launcher pro has sense like widgets, can get the knock off big dumb clock widgets from the market like beautiful widgets, but it's just not the same...I don't know how to explain it....it feels "generic" I guess..for me if my phone was stock vanilla android out of the box like my Samsuck Moment was (except I got a whole 3 home screens to choose from) or the nexus one, then I would run with launcher pro or adw and a CM mod. But in having the evo I can try both (sense, aosp roms) so I guess after rambling on for so long, its about what strikes your fancy more..is one better than the other IMO......no, but you should just do a nandroid back up of your current working set up and try one out CM6,7,or MIUI

AOSP is the Android Open Source Project, it's the Android source code that Google releases. So when ever a new Android version is released, Google puts it up on the site and everyone is free to use it. OEMs like HTC take that source code to create Android phones. So technically ALL ROMs are AOSP, this includes HTC Sense. A key difference with OEM ROMs, like HTC Sense and Samsung Touchwiz, is that they tend to include closed source proprietary code to make them stand out and have extra features. So the core of that code ends up being very different (and unavailable/unknown) to the original AOSP code. These core differences make kernels incompatible between each other; so AOSP kernels end up only working on ROMs where the core is very similar to the original AOSP code - for the EVO these ROMs include CM, MIUI, and some others I've never bothered to use.
i agree with visionikc03 the xda forum search is no good... when you go to open a thread it will ask you if you have checked xxxx thread before posting thats a better search than the forum search... so is this guy an apple fanboy trolling? i think so...my 02 before the thread is closed/moved/locked
Dear Admins
Why locking every new Sense 3.0 ROM thread? (Spare Honeysense 3D)
I am really worried about the spirit of competition for Sense 3.0 development on DHD... Every new Sense 3.0 ROM being posted get locked within a day or so.
This is unhealthy practice and I would think it has dire consequences regarding pushing Sense 3.0 forward on our device.
There must be some other way to settle arguments other than doing it this way in public.
I have no hard-feelings towards any of the Devs involved in this matter, but it is getting way too much now.
I hope we can keep XDA forums a pleasant and civilized place for all Devs (like it is meant to be). After all, it is an open source OS and no one has rights to claim any part of the software spare HTC and Google Devs imho.
Cheers

I think it's because of people using virtuous unity as a base without their permission. There aren't many devs that can port and resize a stock Sensation etc. rom to the DHD, so that's why almost every new Sense 3.0 rom is based on a already existing port. If people made their own roms from scratch it would be ok as it would bring some diversity. Now all new sense 3.0 roms are practically the same as there can't be any huge differences if the devs don't know how to use the m10 tools for example.

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't all MIUI and Cyanogenmod custom ports are based on the original Rom with some tweaks? Why Sense 3 needs to be different...
I never saw an MIUI or Cyanogenmod custom ROM being locked for this reason.
If you have a good base that you can just simply tweak for better performance/custom looks, wouldn't that make devs lives easier and get us more choices to Flash? Of course I cannot expect someone to take a base without mentioning the original dev/team who cooked it and giving them proper credit for their work. But still mentioning them in credits should be enough imho. And still people have the choice to flash whatever they want.
Cheers

My main point is the last sentence in my previous post. There isn't much tweaking you can do as a dev if you don't know how to work with the rom in the first place. If someone wants to modify the looks of a rom they could just release a theme. There's just too little being added to these new roms that someone could be able to call it their own imo and then there's the permission part...

I tried just about every ROM for my inspire and I decided to keep Honey3d.. after trying just about every sense 3.0 ROM, I believe that each one had its own touch. They look very similar but some just had a different style or look. Personally there was a big enough difference between them all to meet everyone's different styles.
If your worried about them all looking the same, take a look at some of the other ROMs out there too. Many of them look close to a bunch of the other ROMs.
Overall I don't really understand the locking on the 3.0 threads. I really hope I get to keep using Honey3D.. I don't really want to change to anything else

That's borderline impossible. Completely different framework and kernels. There is a team working on bringing sense to Samsung, sense4all,I believe. Its not something the average person can manage to do.

not necessarly true a new kernel would have to be created but not impossible if htc devices can get touchwiz booting the s3 def can have sense booting 2 sense4all was successfully created for the galaxy s3 international problem is thats a completly diffrent hardware then the sgh i747 im really looking forward to the deving on this device its nice and powerfull and i hope that more people get on the dev scene on this

Yes a new kernel would be needed. The difference in the sense based stuff in an htc kernel does not directly work with a Samsung device of the same processors. The ram disk needs to be modified, correct drivers would either need to be made or modded, that's just for the basics. I'm not including adding in the camera, sound, radio, touchscreen etc stuff. Those a specific to each different device with the newer versions of android now of days.
I can't just directly port over a touchwiz ROM an drop it on my phone, so much work goes into it. If you do get the kernel built correctly, more problems arise. Gotta rework the framework to match the Samsung phone, including HTC's framework among other HTC specific files.
What HTC phone has a full booting touchwiz rom?
Not to mention a lot of Sense drivers are closed source and proprietary.

That video doesn't prove that is a full touchwiz Rom. Then your link is only for the launcher, yet again that doesn't prove anything at all. The Rom is just a stripped out sense Rom(ie senseless)with touchwiz launcher an possibly ui. It's not a full touchwiz rom.

The ui alone is possible but not very sure how stable it'll be though. Probably the main reason nobody has done is: 1. They just don't care about sense. 2. There no demand for sense on the device or 3.nobody thought of it yet?

The level of activity in development in this particular forum is relatively low although the devs have come up with some pretty genius things I will start this venture and if I am able to get a beta launcher application of sense ui. I will post in the development for testing and see how well it'll catch on I'm not much of a dev. But will give it a shot.

This ROM looks absolutely fantastic. Any developers have insight as to how we can get this working on our Verizon HTC One's?

My rom uses the exact same base. Not saying it's exactly the same however.
But what exactly is it about the rom that interests you?
Is there something it claims to offer that the roms we already have don't?
Just trying to understand all this desire to port other roms that have the same base as existing roms already ported and available.
What features makes it different or more desirable?
Maybe some insight may help others to understand and therefor justify why any Dev would port something from another Dev, when he has done the work already for his own port/rom.
Trying to understand what the draw is, that's all.
Is it the more well known "name" on it?
Go ask the creator of the ROM for permission to port and I will see about porting it over if I get the time.

If you look at OP Post #1 here is the sharing policy, I've already messaged mike already to inform him... If you could pull this off FlyHalf that would be AWESOME. I have friends using this ROM and they totally swear by it (full GPU UI rendering, all the underhood tweaks make this rom quick, CPU governor performance).
This forum is about sharing. If you want to use any part of my work, please feel free to do it but remember about some simple rules:
Inform me about using my work by sending me a message. You don’t need my permission, just inform me.
Include link to my thread from where you took particular files.
Give proper credits for what you used.
When it comes to using my ROM as a base you are free to do it only if I don't have "Stock ROMs" thread available for particular device. If such thread exists, you are
obligated to take ROMs from there instead. These threads with "Stock ROMs" are usually updated within 24 hours from the moment when I release my custom ROM.
Sharing is one thing, but please respect some areas of my work like:
ROM name - "Android Revolution HD", "Android Revolution", "Revo HD", "AR HD" etc.
Graphics used in my threads, especially head-banners designed exclusivity for me.
Other parts of my work that are not supposed to be used by others without proper permission.
Reguardless if he lets me. I will still port it to myself. May even work with him to get Verizon support in his main thread. Would be best solution since he does have sprint support. I am making no promises I can get this done! But I will try

I actually did this, just to see what all the hoopla was about.
It's essentially a stock rom with Sense 5 toolbox, not much point in it really. (my 2 cents)
What feature is it you are looking for that's not currently available to us on Vzw? Just curious.
Is it the GPU rendering? Because that's the only thing that really stands out... to me anyway.

There's been a project: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2331791. But it's probably put on hold/not being developed anymore.
If you want something really old and 2.3.7 based, there was this ROM as well back then: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25031190&postcount=3. I would swear there was another one, possibly better, but I can't find it just now, and honestly that should be up to you.
If you want some stock Sense app ported, you could try looking here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335530, There are quite a few ported already.
Also, I don't want to be nasty, but I think you should read the first line of my first link, it applies to your "request" , you're not the first to ask this. And also, it wouldn't hurt to put what your request was in the title, now it's almost as if you're clickbaiting the more curious among us.
Lastly, still not to be nasty, I think it's pretty pointless to port such an old version of Sense, HTC is at 6.0 now and you want 3?
