Thanks for this! I'm trying it out now. Was using Gingerbread keyboard on the market but this one seems better.

Try swiftkey, it's even better.

Swedish, Danish and Finnish, but not Norwegian?

There is a norwegian language pack, just search for it..

RTL issue
An annoying issue which will probably send me looking for another keyboard soon:
Parentheses appear backwards when typed in RTL box.
Repro steps:
1. When i type something in Hebrew it RTLs the input box (caret moves to the right edge, as it should)
2. now if i type parentheses they appear backwards

Swype keyboard for HTC HERO ?

Hy everybody.
I've seen in this NexusOne thread (Swype Beta Keyboard with fix for resolution pop-up) that Swype was available for WVGA devices ; thus not for our HERO (HVGA screen). I succeeded in installing it, but the keyboard does not show up
I've seen in another forum (Swype for HVGA Devices - *updated*) that a version for HVGA Devices was available. Unfortunately (at least for non english nor spanish people), this app does include ONLY english and spanish languages, while the first one above includes other languages, especially french (which I'm looking for ...)
Thus my question is : Would it be possible for a developper over there to build a Swype app for HVGA devices including additionnal languages ?
Thank you for your help.
wow, i just tried the english version and this keyboard is really awesome.
thx for pointing it out. ;-)
i unfortunately have no clue how to get new languages for this keyboard but i reaaly would love a german one...
try shapewriter keyboard
this keyboard is greaaat
Yay, now there is swype AND shapewriter.
Shapewriter kind of beat them to it I guess.
However, the HTC keyboard or the stock android 2.0+ keyboard kind of has an edge over these new ones for me: As you have your finger on the screen while writing, it kind of obscures the keypad.
It makes it hard to hit the keys, while regular typing does not have this problem: you lift your fingers in between (and the letter pops up, so you don't overshoot)
Too bad these both don't just use the default localization dictionaries.
Could anyone provide me with a non-torrent mirror?
I'd like to include this in my roms.
Thank you
just installed this and used it to send a text and wow, what a great idea!. Nathan if you can build this into your roms it would be amazing.
EDIT: Nathan I could email you the .apk if you pm me an email address.
what am I getting ? swype or shapewriter ?
Done my research and Swype seems the better option
ok thanks
i had the idea of searching for the language packs in the wvga version that are missing in the hvga build and i think i found them.
i have to say that i have no clue about building/(signing?) apks so i just renamed the wvga swype apk to zip and unzipped it. there were several additional language files in \assets\files for french, german, italian, russian.
but when i add them to the hvga build (see first posting in this thread), zip it, rename it to apk and try to install it on my phone the installation is aborted.
i'm sure i'm doing something completely wrong here but perhaps somebody can help who also would like to use other languages?

thx for your reply, i tried several times now but it's always saying that the application could not be installed on this phone. is this a signing problem?
ok guys, i just searched the forum a bit and found the autosigner thread. now i signed the apk with the batch signing tool and everything worked fine. the apk could be installed and german dictionary is working at the moment (first test). will test french too now...
okay french doesn't work at the moment because it seems that an other keyboard layout is used for this and this is missing in my apk file. i try to fix this now... but can't promise anything.

EDIT: Ignore, I just can't read.

i installed this last night from a link i found online somewhere, I really like it. Didnt think i would thought it would be weird but actually seems good. Getting used to it. The tutorial is really worth doing if your new to it.

[Q] Keyboard for fat fingers

Hi,
My fingers are like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Therefore I'm struggling to text precisely.
Anybody could recommend a keyboard that is:
- the most precise for fat fingers
- does the job the old input way(no swype, or wierd layouts)
- doesn't take 99% of the screen.
- no text prediction help.
I was using swiftkey so far, and it slowly learns my "style", but still I have to all the time choose the right word if I mistype something.
I know I might ask a lot, but all I need really just an accurate keyboard!
Thanks for any suggestion!
I am using Scandinavian Keyboard ( Download from Market ) and using HTC Skin for it ( You can choose it when you have Installed Scandinavian Keyboard )..... and those letters are pretty damn big

Yeah, but if you go to "Settings > Locale and text > Scandinavian Keyboard > Skin" and choose HTC.... you will get different skin and those letters are a little bigger, work perfect for me
But that suppose to be the same, only different skin. In that case the points you push are not changed at all!
Use a knife and sharpen those.
Sorry, had to.
How about "Thumb Keyboard" from market...in Landscape-Mode it could be the right one for you?!
...and now (after seeing you fingerfoto) i have to order a couple of Hot-Dogs because my stomach is making some strange noise!
Lol cheers guys, yeah those sausages are juicy sweet.
I got a heads up on thumb keyboard, but it has also wierd layout, I've just tried it today!
Sharpening fingers is not mad, it just messes up the display with blood.
So that's it, no more recommendations?
Htc Ime mod by jonasl, set it to Compact Qwerty.
Works for me.
Can't find it. Where is it?

Oh, rite, I was looking on market, I though it's an official app.
LMGTHF made me smile lol, usually I'm the one sending it to ppl
I'll check it out tho, cheers.
It has extensive config options, I disable 90% of them (T9, auto spaces and stuff... it slows me down)
I really cant live without this kb.
Noo, unfortunately compact querty has problems with my language, and without prediction it slows down my typing
I came across a thumbs keyboards the other day but the name alludes me it looked quite good though

You can try typing in the fat finger in the iTunes store...this keyboard would be perfect for you, but you would have to check with the developers to see if it can be installed on the program you are having difficulty with.
Good luck,

Hey. Thank you for your keyboard, i'm addicted to swype but will give it a try since swyping isn't that comfortable on a tablet for me.
Have a question, i've been looking in the market and there seems to be a paid version also. What are the differences between the free and the paid version?
Not your case explicitly, but this is something i feel almost every developer in the market fail in making clear, usually have to read up several comments and reviews from people to figure that out. Wish market had some sort of way to compare main points among different apps...
Thank you!
Thank you for your comment. I updated the desctiption in the market.

Numeric keypad with Swype/T9 Trace

Hi guys,
On the Samsung Wave there is a feature called T9 Trace, which basically offers Swype gestures with the qwertz (German) AND the numeric keypad.
In Galaxy S2 there is no Swype for the numeric keypad, but I am using this now for nearly a year and would not like to miss it.
Is there a way/an app to have the numeric keypad WITH the Swype feature on the Galaxy S2 (like T9 Trace in Samsung Wave)?
Thank you in advance.
Nobody knows a keyboard app with numeric layout AND Swype/T9 Trace for the Galaxy S2? Bad news. :-/
I read your message yesterday but i don't get what you're missing with swype. If you need a numeric keypad with Swype just swype from the swype button (bottom left) to the letter F (aka number 5).
That is what we are looking for: Swype with numeric keypad.

It is much faster and comfortable to text.
Right, thats actually a layout called "3x4 layout"
And i'm very sorry i don't know if this exists. Perhaps you can find alternatives that offer that. GoKeyboard, SlideIt.
I dont know which offers this, but have a look yourself now that you know the name of the layout.
Thanks. I searched now for two days and installed a lot of keyboard programmes, but really none of them offered a 3x4 layout PLUS Swype.
Either it was 3x4 or it had Swype on qwertz/qwerty.
That really sucks. :-/
Hey, did you manage to find T9 Trace APK anywhere? or anything similar?
I also make use of the T9 keyboard and would love to be able to swype on it instead of tapping. Let me know if you managed to find something to that effect.

Yeah, I do only use the 3x4 layout and hate tapping, as it is much slower than sliding on it. I really miss "T9 Trace" from Bada.
Unfortunately, I have not found a solution/keyboard app, that supports that technique.
Did anyone find a solution for that problem in the meantime?
For all interested: I found a solution (app) for our problem. Ultra Keyboard from Binary Bulge has got Swype in 3 x 4/numeric keypad layout.
It is still not as good as the T9 Trace on Samsung Wave, bu I am really happy about this.

Hi,
I was searching for the solution for he same problem. I came acress your post.
I was also using Samsung Wave 2 phone. T9 3x4 keypad was so easy to use. Now I have switched to Galaxy S3.
This basic feature is missing in most advanced phones.
In Bada the toggling(Turn On & Off) between T9 dictionary is so convenient in 3x4 keypad itself.
But android is missing that feature. We have to go insite the settings and turn on or off the dictionary. And also i could not find the swype in 3x4 kaypad.
Thanks for your post. you were following it for almost more than a year for the solution

Yeah, I am even still checking out new ways, because Ultra Keyboard is working good for now, but the T9 Trace thing for Wave was slightly faster and more comfortable.
A guy at the Atrix forum told me the TouchPal keyboard app would do the same, but there was a misunderstandig, because I tested it and it does NOT have this feature.
So, still Ultra Keyboard is the only one. Btw, you can toggle it directly in the Ultra Keyboard with the button "TAP". You do not have to change it in the settings. Only dictionary changing is in settings, but with Ultra you can change the menu line (the order) above the keypad, so that you have a button directly for languages. It is not as fast as in the Wave models, but it is only two clicks instead of one.
If you need help, I can provide a screenshot.

That is how I set up the keyboard app with book (for languages) on the left side and smiley (for smileys obviously) on the right side. So, everything is withing one's click reach.

OTA XWKL2

I have a yakjuxw/maguro:4.0.1/ITL41F GSM model with 4.0.1 for 2 days now...i just got a notification of a software update from XWKK9 to XWKL2 (8.3MB).
Does anyone know what this is? Does Samsung finally push 4.0.2 OTA?

The dialog I'm interested in is the following:
Settings / Language & Input / Spelling correction (=) (click right) / Android collection (o) (click right)
The list there is interesting. Could you provide a screenshot of that?
As for the keyboard and corrections there... If it only shows suggestions which seems to be from your contact-list, there is no dictionary for the keyboard either. Would be nice if you could check.
btw: You don't need to set the system-language to Norwegian to test the Norsk bokmål keyboard

Ah crap. Same as always then. I didn't really expect any better support at this point, but I figured it was worth checking
Thanks for the help.

np
dunno if it's placebo or not but certain menus have just a tiiiiiny bit of drag lag about them...like the language & input submenu is scrolling just a bit laggier than the toplevel settings menu...
also noticed when opening an email, it opens ok but when closing (back button to go to inbox) the animation is also a bit laggy...
also when swiping widgets pages seems a bit laggier than before...apps pages are ok
i don't think i had this in 4.0.1...or was i too tired?!

Isn't the add on list under Language & input - keyboard and input methods, Android keyboard (=), Text correction - add-on dictonaries ? (press refresh)
Perhaps the OP could be so kind and check here too?

The bad news is that there still seems to be zero ICS-builds which takes the rest of the world as seriously as all former Android-builds have done.
I realize there are a ****load of languages out there in the world, but ICS has been out for several months now.
You'd think someone like Google would be able to get some basic dictionaries WHICH THEY ALREADY HAVE in former versions of Android added to ICS.
But evidently that is just expecting too much.

So... Can anyone else confirm that this update is being pushed? I know it takes time, but now we only have one confirmation
