OTA XWKL2 - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have a yakjuxw/maguro:4.0.1/ITL41F GSM model with 4.0.1 for 2 days now...i just got a notification of a software update from XWKK9 to XWKL2 (8.3MB).
Does anyone know what this is? Does Samsung finally push 4.0.2 OTA?
If i search on Google for XWKL2 OTA all i get is a bunch of Chinese BBS boards

You need to hold it for 2 seconds+.

ok, went ahead and installed it....
phone rebooted, shows an android robot with its guts opened (not the fastboot one ) and some spinning blue 3D hexagonal thing in its belly...thin blue progress bar...phone restarts again...after bootscreen "Android is upgrading/optimizing applications (46)"...finishing boot...checking about phone:
Android version: 4.0.2
Baseband: I9250XXKK6
Kernel: 3.0.8-gaaa2611
Build: ICL53F.I9250XWKL2
So yea, looks like Samsungs are getting OTA allright...

The dialog I'm interested in is the following:
Settings / Language & Input / Spelling correction (=) (click right) / Android collection (o) (click right)
The list there is interesting. Could you provide a screenshot of that?
As for the keyboard and corrections there... If it only shows suggestions which seems to be from your contact-list, there is no dictionary for the keyboard either. Would be nice if you could check.
btw: You don't need to set the system-language to Norwegian to test the Norsk bokmål keyboard

dunno if it's placebo or not but certain menus have just a tiiiiiny bit of drag lag about them...like the language & input submenu is scrolling just a bit laggier than the toplevel settings menu...
also noticed when opening an email, it opens ok but when closing (back button to go to inbox) the animation is also a bit laggy...
also when swiping widgets pages seems a bit laggier than before...apps pages are ok
i don't think i had this in 4.0.1...or was i too tired?!

The bad news is that there still seems to be zero ICS-builds which takes the rest of the world as seriously as all former Android-builds have done.
I realize there are a ****load of languages out there in the world, but ICS has been out for several months now.
You'd think someone like Google would be able to get some basic dictionaries WHICH THEY ALREADY HAVE in former versions of Android added to ICS.
But evidently that is just expecting too much.

Swype keyboard for HTC HERO ?

Hy everybody.
I've seen in this NexusOne thread (Swype Beta Keyboard with fix for resolution pop-up) that Swype was available for WVGA devices ; thus not for our HERO (HVGA screen). I succeeded in installing it, but the keyboard does not show up
I've seen in another forum (Swype for HVGA Devices - *updated*) that a version for HVGA Devices was available. Unfortunately (at least for non english nor spanish people), this app does include ONLY english and spanish languages, while the first one above includes other languages, especially french (which I'm looking for ...)
Thus my question is : Would it be possible for a developper over there to build a Swype app for HVGA devices including additionnal languages ?
Thank you for your help.
wow, i just tried the english version and this keyboard is really awesome.
thx for pointing it out. ;-)
i unfortunately have no clue how to get new languages for this keyboard but i reaaly would love a german one...
try shapewriter keyboard
this keyboard is greaaat
Yay, now there is swype AND shapewriter.
Shapewriter kind of beat them to it I guess.
However, the HTC keyboard or the stock android 2.0+ keyboard kind of has an edge over these new ones for me: As you have your finger on the screen while writing, it kind of obscures the keypad.
It makes it hard to hit the keys, while regular typing does not have this problem: you lift your fingers in between (and the letter pops up, so you don't overshoot)
Too bad these both don't just use the default localization dictionaries.
Could anyone provide me with a non-torrent mirror?
I'd like to include this in my roms.
Thank you
just installed this and used it to send a text and wow, what a great idea!. Nathan if you can build this into your roms it would be amazing.
EDIT: Nathan I could email you the .apk if you pm me an email address.
what am I getting ? swype or shapewriter ?
Done my research and Swype seems the better option
ok thanks
i had the idea of searching for the language packs in the wvga version that are missing in the hvga build and i think i found them.
i have to say that i have no clue about building/(signing?) apks so i just renamed the wvga swype apk to zip and unzipped it. there were several additional language files in \assets\files for french, german, italian, russian.
but when i add them to the hvga build (see first posting in this thread), zip it, rename it to apk and try to install it on my phone the installation is aborted.
i'm sure i'm doing something completely wrong here but perhaps somebody can help who also would like to use other languages?

thx for your reply, i tried several times now but it's always saying that the application could not be installed on this phone. is this a signing problem?
ok guys, i just searched the forum a bit and found the autosigner thread. now i signed the apk with the batch signing tool and everything worked fine. the apk could be installed and german dictionary is working at the moment (first test). will test french too now...
okay french doesn't work at the moment because it seems that an other keyboard layout is used for this and this is missing in my apk file. i try to fix this now... but can't promise anything.

Well personally I think we should thank Swype for a fantastic app, but really it is their fault for not releasing it on the hero.
i installed this last night from a link i found online somewhere, I really like it. Didnt think i would thought it would be weird but actually seems good. Getting used to it. The tutorial is really worth doing if your new to it.

An annoying issue which will probably send me looking for another keyboard soon:

1. When i type something in Hebrew it RTLs the input box (caret moves to the right edge, as it should)
2. now if i type parentheses they appear backwards

Swype is finally available for Gnexus

Been waiting forever.
Yes I realize an XDA hacked version exists, but it was eating my battery like crazy for some reason ( phone would die on idle in 16 hrs )
Hopefully the clean version doesn't have battery issues for me.
Edit: looks like no battery eating issue now, finally! SwiftkeyX and SlideIT has nothing on Swype
Simply download the installer through your phone.
http://beta.swype.com/android/get/
Then follow the directions.
that battery issue was probably because you tried to download a language pack? I usually get 48 hours+ idle with the hacked swype
anyways, i dont see any news of this update. where do you see the change log?

Why are you using 240 dpi? What's the point? Sorry if it's too obvious.

For some reasons, after trying a couple of time I saw th download languages under language options on options,
So, options, language options, download languages,
There you have them all.
Actually actually I can see now Swype complements. These are the beta features.

I just don't get it. For me, the download languages option doesn't appear in the menu. I guess I have bad luck... Over : here it states that Dutch isn't available for Dragon but I would imagine that at least I can download the other languages.
I'm a fan of Swype ever since I first used it on my SGS1. Hope I will be able to download additional languages soon (preferrably Dutch too ;-) )
Ah wait. Had to make Swype my default input method.., now I managed to download Dutch I'm a happy camper now !!!!

Same effect as increasing the resolution on your monitor - makes icons/text smaller and gives you more effective screen real estate.

Works great! But the vibration for the haptic feedback is too strong and kinda annoying.

I'm sure you've probably figured it out by now but I had this problem on my Droid Bionic and I hated it so I ended up turning it off. I feel that swype was a bit more responsive after I did this as well. Try going to your settings and go to keyboard settings and there should be an option to take off vibration on keypress.

Samsung Galaxy S3 (Telus) Red Underlined Spell Checking Missing..?

A week or two ago I switched from a BlackBerry to a Samsung Galaxy S3. One of the features that I was used to with a BlackBerry for 5+ years was the red underlining of misspelled words that could be selected and presented with a bunch of choices for the correct spelling. I find the predictive text feature makes too many mistakes and slows me down too much when typing so I want to have this same functionality on my S3. I thought I would have that feature from reading this prior to making the switch:
The URL here states:
"To fix misspelled words more easily, Android 4.0 adds a spell-checker that locates and underlines errors and suggests replacement words. With one tap, you can choose from multiple spelling suggestions, delete a word, or add it to the dictionary. You can even tap to see replacement suggestions for words that are spelled correctly..."

This feature/option is absolutely no where to be found on my Telus S3. I have read that Samsung removed it, and that in order to get it back I have to do some crazy 'hacking' mentioned here. While I do have my S3 rooted (it was easy to root) doing what is suggested in the post above seems very difficult and risky... has anyone tried what is mentioned in this post or does anyone know of another way to get the 'red underlining' spell check feature on a Samsung S3? Something via a 3rd party keyboard would be fine with me, but I've tried 4 or 5 so far and none seem to have this feature.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Hey
Have you checked out the "android keyboard settings"??
There's an option there..

Hmm, where can I find that? Is it under "Language and input"? Because under there I just have "Samsung Keyboard" and "Google voice typing" as Keyboards and input methods.
Grab the stock ICS android keyboard and use that instead of the samsung one. You can find it on the play store.
After that use the language settings to make it the default keyboard.

I tried following (insert h t t p : / / ) www dot androidauthority dot com/galaxy-s3-gt-i9300-stock-android-4-0-ics-keyboard-101630/ but I still don't see the option for red underlining of mispelled words after I installed the "Android Keyboard" with this APK... Hmmmm
Humm your right to your I thought that is what have it back to me. Sorry for that. I'll have to do some more digging.

Thanks I could definitely use the help with this lol. Although I am quite a techy I am much more used to both BlackBerry and iOS devices than Android at this time

i have no clue, custom roms probably
Correct, changing keyboard will not fix this. I can confirm it was not present in the Samsung S3 default firmware.
Now that I'm on CM10, it is there and working. I'm sure there's a few custom ROMs that have this feature enabled.
pretty stupid,
almost certain samsung's website lists spell checker as a feature
So CM10 is available for Telus SGH-I747M? Hmmm, I'm pretty new to the Android scene. I assume it's going to be a lot of work switching myself over to CM10... I wonder how well Light Flow would work on CM10 as well. Bah I guess I have a ton of reading to do.

It is available, but in a preview state. Lots of people using it as a daily driver, but there are still outstanding issues that could hold you back. Flashing it is not too difficult, just follow this for any ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
Not sure about Light Flow, never used it. But depending on what you're using it for, CM10 does in include a few more LED customization options over stock, notably color and pulse rate control on a per app basis.
with CM9/10 dont you loose the S3 camera functions? burst mode and autofocus? pic while Vid?

CM10, at least, is nowhere near complete so it's hard to say what the final camera will include. The most recent update included a massive amount of camera improvements, and I'm sure there are more to come.
Burst mode is missing but I just confirmed that taking a picture while shooting a video works. Just have to tap the screen.
Any update on the status of spell check?
Is there no way to incorporate spell check into the Samsung Galaxy S3?
I've searched for hours trying to understand why there is no spell check on board the S3. Some people say it is a keyboard function, while other's say it is a ROM function. If it is a ROM function, can you please point me to a ROM which does have spell check. Thank you.

I could be wrong and this is my first post but with the telus carrier anyways the spell check is there but it's in a weird location. If you enable Predictive text which one of the options under the samsung keyboard settings and than actually click on predictive text you will get a whole pile of options which has spell check, word completion next word and all that stuff. Hope this helps if not o well.
Thank you for the suggestion, but...
Thank you for the suggestion, but it doesn't give me the ICS spell check.
Anyone else know how to incorporate the spell check into the stock rom. I have tried Task's & Ktoonsez AOKP 4.2.1 by , but the rom has issues with saving pictures to my 32GB SD card. Can we add spell check into the stock rom?
Thanks.
