I'm looking to remove all these extra apps and crap from my evo. With Sense 3.0 and GB and alot of apps were introduced since I've removed apps the last time.
I'm talking not only all the htc sense widgets but stuff like gsd.apk, fieltest.apk. I've looked through all the old listings but I have yet to find a complete GB and sense 3.0 listing.
Any help is appreciated.
Instead of stripping a sense ROM, why not just flash aosp? Prestripped with plenty of room for apps and whatnot. Just not as fancy looking as sense.

was a list ever made?

Does anyone know were to find the htc contacts app, I much prefer roms without sense, but came across pinkys rom which uses a few of the htc stock apps, and they are pretty useful. Would be great if these were flashable! So as maybe I could use it on a rom that doesn't use sense.

All the HTC stuff depends on the Sense framework, so you can hardly get Contacts without pulling most of the Sense in.

You can always opt for the donate version of ADW launcher. Comes with similar widgets to the sense
is there any way to get sense apps like the Music, camera, and phone onto vanlla phones or on cyanogen
I was hoping there was a way to get the dialer from a sense rom onto any stock rom. I actually may try that out later this week and see if it works (doubtful).
It requires sense framework for the Widgets as I've asked this before, as far as camera mods and what not I've seen that on vanilla roms but I'm sure there are geniuses that dwell on XDA that could figure it out.

Eventually, there will be hacked up ROMs with bits and pieces from every corner of the earth - I wanted the same thing on my Nexus (stock with the HTC cam) and there were a few options (though all had bugs here and there). Given the G2 was *just* permrooted, it might be a few weeks/months before you see some really creative ROMs.
Other stuff, like the lockscreen, can be changed with apps like widgetlocker and such.
You should definitely try out the Desire Z rom, though. It's all kinds of awesome, with new features that weren't there in previous versions of Sense. Hell, the camera app alone is worth it - makes the stock Android camera app look like a joke.
Sense apps have never and will never work on a non-sense based rom as it has far too much reliance on lots of frameworks (its a messy area).
The closest you will get is a rom like SuperVillain (out later today) that is a Sense based rom but with Rosie (Launcher) and widgets removed so looks like vanilla but still has all the sense apps working.
Keep an eye on villainrom.co.uk or the dev section here on xda for the rom release of SuperVillainZ

Enomther's TheOfficial has the option of both the HTC Camera and the HTC Music app - plus you can install the HTC IME (onscreen keyboard) easily as an APK (there's even a kitchen that lets you customize the colors and such).
Your sig claims you've owned 4 android phones. So you're obviously not a super noob. So my question to you is -
Did searching just not occur to you, or did you honestly believe you were not the 7,548th person to ask this question?
I am not asking about sense widgets because im aware that i need to have the sense framework running but im just wondering about the 2 apps Camera and Music. i know that enmothers rom gives you the option to install the 2 if you want and am just wondering if its possible to do the same for cyanogen.
also i have used the Sense Roms for the G2 but i was never really a fan of non Vanilla android.

A couple of apps may have been REBUILT to work without sense, but its not an easy job and certainly isn't something a lot of people have done.
the HTC IME keyboard was pretty much an entire rewrite of the code based on what the htc one looked like, its not the apk from sense just moved over.
I can't comment on the camera or music, but I imagine these are the same.

There has been a sense app ported to stock. Enom ported the HTC camera to his stock ROM for the Nexus... I remember running it.. That was a great ROM
Sorry, I see this has already been covered... But I know the app wasn't rewritten, it was a straight port, with the stock framework rewritten, so it was a straight app port

I really like the browser from sense, I use lpp for widgets so I'm good there. I asked about getting some sort of plug in for google translate onto vanilla browser and got nothing but flame. Hopefully gingie brings this to us... I mean is there any other plug ins other then flash? Honest question

I was wondering if any dev could comment on the possibility of a sense 2.1 rom base with sense 3.5 apps hacked in (similar to how we have sense 3.0 apps hacked into 2.1 bases). I would imagine the updated apps would have improved stability for our phone over the 3.0 apps which were designed for a higher screen resolution.
I think they would be even more stable than 3.0 apps! But I could be wrong. If its doable I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see this.

Basically I'd like to be persuaded as to whether to use a sense rom (e.g ARHD) or a nosense rom (e.g CM7). And if I use CM7 can I install the HTC dialer and messaging app?
--
Previously I was using ARHD (sense) and go launcher, and I've just updated to the new ARHD with sense 3. As much as I like it, it's not quite as minimalist as I liked with go launcher and my battery life is not as good (sense is a battery hod, no denying).
I'm tempted to go the other way; CM7 with no sense features. What are the advantages of this? Why do some people prefer no sense?
Can I install the sense APKs of the apps I like? The htc dialer is great, as is the messaging/
I can't answer all your questions however I recently went from RCMix3d 1.4 runny to CM7 and I'm loving the change. The battery life is excellent and it makes me wonder why I was using sense in the first place.
I don't even miss it that much, apart from the odd thing. I'll take longer battery life over flashy show off animations any day

No, the HTC apps won't run without the Sense framework.
Beyond that, I'm not going to persuade you with way; the only way to decide is to backup, flash cm7 and see which one you prefer.

I suggest giving MIUI a try. It is basedd om CM7,has great features and is very easy to customise!
Definately take a look at MIUI as well Its an AOSP rom like CM7 but with some very nice additions. If you like to try out different themes and lots of personalization options MIUI is definately the way to go.
But in the end both ways (sense or no sense) have their advantages. What i dont like about sense is that its so bloated up with stuff you rarely ever use. You can cleane some of it with scripts like rom cleaner but still we're talking 350mb rom (sense) vs 80-90mb rom (CM7 or MIUI).
On the other hand with sense you get one good looking theme and good to very good apps for all the features of your phone. On CM7 you might need to find another app to play music via DLNA for example and another app for weather and so on.
sense and see how you feel if you dont like then go for no sense .....simple really
im with sense atm and feel that it is good
you could try the better of both worlds by flashing DeDense from this thread

Try Helios 0913 for a CM7 rom if you're gonna try one. It'll make you not wanna go back. These forums are crowded with sense roms that look exactly the same and offer nothing different, except some visual stuff, than the other 20 or so sense roms that are here. A good AOSP rom is hard to find on HTC phones now. Like I said though, try Helios or better yet, Hydrogenmod and you'll forget all about sense.

I love Helios too but, more broadly, I went the way of CM7-based ROMs in general + Lord Clockan's amazing kernels and never looked back.
I never enjoyed such a snappy and responsive device when I was on Sense-based ROMs. Ditto battery life. I'm a massive CyanogenMod fanboy now, and will be flashing Nightlies (which are in a very good condition ATM) until Richfish updates Helios.
People on Sense ROMs have good things to report too, though, so my suggestion (which you've probably already heard a million times) is to try stuff out for yourself.
No one will be able to tell you what you would prefer. Test out a CM rom and a sense rom. Make your own mind up.

I'm having trouble finding a full and up to date list of exactly what Sense 6 apps are safely removable and will not break any features. There's a ton of questionable preinstalled apps if not downright known spyware that comes with our phones and even with most stock based ROMS.
Is there a list I missed or a flashable zip that is up to date to clean up and trim down Sense?
