Sense 2.1/3.5 hybrid roms? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if any dev could comment on the possibility of a sense 2.1 rom base with sense 3.5 apps hacked in (similar to how we have sense 3.0 apps hacked into 2.1 bases). I would imagine the updated apps would have improved stability for our phone over the 3.0 apps which were designed for a higher screen resolution.
I think they would be even more stable than 3.0 apps! But I could be wrong. If its doable I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see this.

[Q] HTC Sense 3.0 Lockscreen for Droid Incredible w/ Gingerbread ROM?

I have the leaked Gingerbread ROM for my Incredible, which I decided to revert to after spending a day with the Kingdom Sense 3.0 ROM. I really loved the lockscreen though, and have seen the download link for the Evo and similar phones floating around, but I know it's the wrong screen size, and don't myself have the skills to fix it. Does anyone know if an appropriately sized Sense 3.0 Lockscreen APK for the Incredible exists, or if not, would someone be willing to make one? The Kingdom Alpha ROM is just too buggy. Maybe some day soon, but for now I just want something functional I can still enjoy
There is a apk. However it doesn't have the icons on the screen. Works well though.

I strongly suggest using gingersense remix (wdfowty I think). It is a gingersense port that includes a bunch of 3.0 features (mostly 2.1 sense) but actually runs on our phones. It includes a working 3.0 lockscreen-if you use the apk then it is the lockscreen only, no shortcuts-just the ring to unlock and no animations.
I can promise if you try this rom you will not be disappointed....
It won't run on the gingerbread leak due to the fact that it is sense 1.0 and not sense 2.1.
I just realized it was you joel that posted the last reply. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of your uber gingershift
My advise to you is look at the ones built off the leaked version for the incredible.
I am running mik miks gingersense beta and it seems to have stabilized enough to use until the official release and subsequent roms built off the final release are out.
Also I dont know if it is coincidence or if it helped but flashing the leaked gb radio is what i did right before everything seemed to stabilize...
Also I believe i was getting better signal on redemption 2.4 than i am on these gingerbread ones.
I moved to mik miks after i was having issues on Gingersense remixed b4 with random restarts and being unable to dial out. Though I now believe I was the cause for most of those issues on a mistake I made when I restored some apps from titanium backup. Make sure you only restore apps you have downloaded not system apps that should not be in the new rom.

Gingerbread OTA and Sense 3.0

Would it be possible to overlay Sense 2.1 or 3.0 on top of the Gingerbread OTA that was just leaked? I miss the quick settings panel
Possible? Yes.
Probable? Depends.
There is one rom I know of that managed to bring minimal sense 2.0 features to a 1.0 rom, and that was ihtfp's Skyraider 4.0. It took him a long time getting everything to work correctly even with dedicated private testers. Even then, it was only some features like the ability to re-arrange homescreens while zoomed out and some additional sense 2.0 Widgets. He also had recent apps working in addition to cm7 notification toggles. Ihtfp69 was a beast.
So it would take a substantial amount of work getting something from the newer, more complex sense 3.0 onto a 1.0 rom. 2.1 elements to 1.0 might be easier but I'm not sure how much. It is unlikely that devs here will undertake a project like that.

Check out Business Gingersense 2.1/3.0. The v2.1 uses GB with sense 2.0, while 3.0 uses GB with sense 3.0. I am currently running this and it works great.
Most of the GB roms with Sense 3.0 are ported from other devices. It might be possible to get 2.1 working somewhat but I highly doubt it with Sense 3.0 due to the different framework on each version of Sense.

Will HTC Sense 4.0 be available for Desire from xda when released?

Main features from Sense 4.0 as follows:
Based on Ice-cream sandwich (long waited android OS)
Better DropBox integration with 50GB online storage (can auto mount as network drive.)
Notifications on lock screen (like iOS 5)
Enhanced email with new Sense
Guest Mode
Beats audio is now standard from HTC now on ...

Depends...
The memory footprint for sense keeps on growing and becoming larger with each new version
I suspect ICS + Sense 4.0 will take up a huge amount of memory.
I'm quite sure there will be a way to get it, but your internal memory will be less.

I thought they (htc) were suppose to have optimized 3.5 a lot for low-spec phones (i.e. bliss).
I'd guess that unless it comes to the Desire HD / Sensation then it might be a bit unlikely. ICS with sense 3.5 from the sensation doesn't seem to have had a successful port yet.

True. That have optimized the newer versions for performance and speed.
However, along the way, they have been adding new apps and widgets which take up space. (fb chat, reader, watch, notes, tasks etc) this means the footprint gets larger.
However, I have read that HTC are aware that their Sense UI has started to become bloated, and they say Sense 4.0 will be a lot different.
Hopefully that's the case.

i think that no... and if we run one, will be asop...
Of course it's possible, just a matter of time
it'd be easy to reduce the load on sense though by removing some of the bloatware
laputa, stocks for example I always rip out - fb chat, reader, watch can probably easily go too
i still think the BEST way for HTC to go with the likes of bloatware would be to just simply move it to HTC hub as optional downloads/installs rather than forcing crap on users

I agree on this, most of the HTC apps should be optional which could speed up the system. One of the main problem is get the hardware CPU/GPU support from Qualcomm optimize for ICS.
Am I the only one thinking that Sense 4 so far seems to be to cosmetic? Just like 3 was, i think they stepped it up only with 3.5

Apparently they have really stepped up their game, and this is the biggest overhaul of the UI to date!

Even 3.5 Sense is incredibly slow on Desire. Why should anyone use such slow GUI?
ICS 4.0 AOSP will be better and faster solution.

I thought Sense 2.1 -> Sense 3.0 was one of the bigger overhauls - but even then most of it was minor (i.e. new lockscreen was fairly major, but 3D widgets and carousel was fairly minor)
I guess Sense 1.x -> 2.0/2.1 was fairly major too as they added HTC Sense and HTC Hub - but again one major feature to a lot of minor tweaks..
3.x to 4.x seems to be about the same, with the major update being.... ? the menu animations?

Well that tells me you not tried all sense 3.5 roms out.
Sab... 15 Runnymede rom is super fast as long you have the sd card for it class 4 and above.
I would even say this rom is faster than miui and that's saying something.

Runnymede sense 3.5 rom is fast for me too.
Just add a video link (1st post) showing the new sense look.
Tried Runnymede and lots of ROM from XDA. It looks great, but I always felt lag in it.
Then I go back to Sense 2.1+3.0 ROM. A lot faster than Runnymede. And I do no want to use Runnymede again. Class 4 SD used.
Just put 2 Desires on table, one with Runnymede and other with, let's say, Revolution ROM. And then tell me which one works fast and smooth? Also, on which ROM battery will last longer, under same conditions?
Please, be real and objective.
3.5 ROMs are slow on Desire compared to 2.1+3.0. Period.

Seen videos of the new Sense on the One X (if anyone is interested click here)
Seems theres a new Typeface, lockscreen seems the same as before with slightly tweaked functionality, the launcher at the bottom of the screen is changed to look a bit more like things like GoLauncher, LauncherPro etc.
Side swipe through menu with altered modes (like your favourites, recent etc) something I couldn't make out near the top as well, looks like market loader, a delete function (?)
They seem to have also altered the ICS recent apps thing, if I'm honest it looks a bit like Windows Vista/7 window view.
It seems a lot smoother and neater actually, but on the Desire? 3.5 is still clunky compared to Earlier Pure Sense (2.x etc)and Hybrids, so I'm guessing it'll be a long time till its useable, but I would love to see it implemented!
Before someone says anything like 'Yu havenet used 3.5 its awesomez and supa dupa fast' I have used it with a class 6 card, CoolBliss, did not like it, slow and juttery, went back to the Hybrids. My opinion, don't flame.

downgrade HTC One V to android 2.3 Sense 3.6

Can anyone downgrade Htc One V to android 2.3 with sense 3.6 for full animated Rose effects, or upgrade to Full Sense 4.0 with all animation and effects.
Can anyone (Developer) Port Android 2.3 with Sense 3.6 to HTC One V?

Good question, I was actually wondering the same, while android 4.0 is here working on this phone, I feel sense 4 makes it a bit sluggish....
Stock android 4.0.3 or even stock gingerbread on this phone would be awesome...
That's awesome idea, i would love to see Android 2.3.6 and Sense 3.6 on my ONE V. Maybe i'm just not used to the 4.0 yet

To me, sense 4 is too....BIG for the lack of a better word
The icons are way to big, as are menus, as is just everything....
Maybe I'm just picky like that though hahaha

That is correct. I like Sense 3.5 on my old Desire S and I think it's possibble to have custom sense 3.5 running on 4.0.3. that would be awesome to have Sense 3.5+ICS features.
Android 2.3.x with Sense 3.5 is good
I think it is batter to have Android 2.3.x with Sense 3.5 for Htc One V, to perform better then Android 4.0.x, so i hope there is any developer the port it from Desire S or Desire HD

We're not picky, we just want to have more options. For the CM9 fans there should be CM9 ROM and for the Android 2.3/Sense 3.6 there should be ROM too. I strongly feel that the hardwer of HTC One V is designed for Sense 3.6. HTC made a mistake by porting Sense 4.0 to this smartphone in first place because we didn't get the full Sense 4.0 but something similar to "beta" i.e HTC customized the Sense 4.0 specially for the One V which resulted with losing some genuine Sense features like the Leap view.

When asking for stuff, make sure to get your nomenclacture correct
Froyo / eclair (Android 2.1 / 2.2) had "sense", referred to as "old sense" or 1.9
Gingerbread (Android 2.3) had sense 2.1, 3.0 and 3.5 (the latest referred to as "runny" ROMs)
Handsets that shipped with gingerbread, and were then upgraded to ics came with sense 3.6 HTC wanted the same user experience as 3.0 / 3.5 for its "older" handsets
Ice cream sandwhich (Android 4.0 +) sense 3.6 (upgraded gb phones), sense 4.0 lite (One V), and sense 4.0 full
So, NO handsets, as in NONE have gingerbread and sense 3.6......ZERO.
I can understand asking for:
1. Gingerbread / sense 3.5
2. ICS with sense 3.6
3. ICS with a sense 3.6 / 4.0 hybrid (like the old 2.1 /3.0 hybrids)
4. ICS with full sense 4.0
But not gingerbread and sense 3.6........doesn't exist.
I have been running sense since the beginning, literally, the "cube" on the HTC touch, then manilla 2D, 3D, sense as in winmo sense ala HD2, then Android sense. When talking about sense, proof read and make sure your not mixing up the varients and what they can run on. You cannot ask for a "port" for something that doesn't exist.

yes. no sense. if you want sense. stick with sense 4. it is much more optimized than any other older sense, I can tell you that! but if you want a faster phone with no lag, go with stock android with no user interface. install a great launcher like Nova and enjoy android experience how was meant to be!
We do not need Sense... All we need is stock working Android 4 ICS build and cm9.. If someone want to help me port that Rom please pm me.. I do not have the phone yet.

Yes as we need
1. Gingerbread / sense 3.5
4. ICS with full sense 4.0
any one from them, whatever easy to port with full function.
but we like to have full animated Sense as it was i think option 1. Gingerbread with Sense 3.5 as best for HTC One V and compatible with hardware.
I like choice as much as anyone, any "flashaholic" does. The more the better.
There is always the possibility of "rooted stock" that you can add flashable zips to. Examples would be added leap view (available on the desire), rc team tweaks, optimo tweaks etc which offer different animation on / off, different Rosie (that's the name for the sense launcher btw) mods, flashable themes (requires deodexed ROMs), etc.
My so called list was the various sense / android combos that could work on the One V hardware, by no means meant to be definitive. I have not heard of many people wanting to downgrade their version of android though, sense 3.6 is basically sense 3.5 reworked for ICS.
Shubbysomethinorother (sorry Dude!) was a talented dev on the Desire, I have always enjoyed his ROMs. Cpk5 (sorry if I got that one wrong too) is a talented themer. Asking guys like that for ROM extras like flashable zips that may or may not work on a rooted stock ROM is the best, imho way to go for most as it allows you to add the features you want, and ignore the rest. No one ROM will satisfy everyone.
A device with alot of dev support tends to get this, if not, be nice to the devs you have! Politely asking for features, and not demanding etas etc is a good way to start.
Good luck guys, myself I keep visiting this phone at my local store comparing it to my Desire. It's cheap enough off contract to make a nice development toy while waiting for a One S with real storage, or the "two" series!

Just take the plunge. I bought one as a stop gap until the next HTC Nexus device (hopefully released November as per the rumours). Until then, the One V is great. Just needs an AOSP ROM really.

[Q] Themed Sense rom?

Rather than trying to port a Sense 4 rom for our device, wouldn't it just be easier to use a sense 3.5 base rom, theme it to be identical to sense 4 and if possible, port basic Sense 4 apps? (eg. HTC Music, Gallery, Browser etc...) or produce identical apps using the Sense 3.5 apps as a base? I'm not a dev or anything so i could be wrong about this but it just seems simpler
