Hi there all,
Is it possible to remove the HTC sense phone, txt and contacts apps.
I prefer the Android version alot to the HTC ones.
If you are running a sense rom it will cause you problems if you try to.

Dam... so is it possible to install just the HTC camera on say a Cyanogen 6 ROM?
If one was to remove the default HTC phone, txt and contacts and isntall Android and set as default I cant see a problem.
Can anyone point me in the direction of ripping apk's from a image. I've got various Sense and non Sense ROMS and I'd like to look into having together my perfect ROM.
I want the Friend Stream app from HTC Sense on my CM6 RC1, and the weather app. Wouldnt mind the nice transparent bottom menu I've seen in some Foroy sense ROMS.
Hi all!
Basically....iv used mainly sense roms...tried a few and im with leedroid at the moment...seems very stable and quick and i like the htc goodies....mainly the htc phone, messaging, music and gallery.
Iv also tried CyanogenMod but i didnt get on with it without the sense goodies.
Is there good alternatives for the htc stuff? or did i not give non-sense android a chance? I'm thinking of doing a full wipe and going to opendesire.
What are the advantages in your opinions between sense and non-sense roms???
Advice much appreciated!

Guess you got your Desire because of Sense, or you could buy a N1
I like HTC stuff, though a UI revamp is likely planned for Gingerbread, so you still shouldn't drop stock Android off yet.

For me the biggest disadvantage to non-sense roms is the lack of a decent T9 dialler (where you press the number buttons to substitute for letters and it filters your contacts). There is the Dialler One app available but it's nowhere near as good as the Sense one.
If the Sense dialler could be put into a vanilla rom then I would probably be happy.
Using Defrost at the moment.

Though CM6 with Fancy Widget- OnOff widgets and ³ player worked fine for me. I still missed the dialer, though. If you only want some stock-ish feeling, go install ADW.Launcher

With LeeDrOid sense rom i never used the htc clock and used switchwidget pro with launcher pro...so homescreen wise im not bothered by....its just the dialer, gallery and music mainly.
Also any facebook contact sync apps that are good for contact pictures?

Facebook contact sync is built in to FroYo... I think, if it isn't then it is when you download the Facebook official app.
I havnt tried the facebook app since some updates, but before it didnt work too well
Sense rom = More widgets(htc widgets) , pinchout to select home screens , good dialer.
Non sense rom = More free ram , no htc widgets , no htc sync.
But both of them good with Desire, because Desire is superb

Both are good with battery life. But for my option non sense is a little better.
Like Mshaw03 HTC dialer and selecting text Copy-past on browser. It's really great on sense. But I prefer the froyo lockscreen, the gray status bar other way I prefer the froyo look and feel.
I'm on OpenDesire 4.0.4
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Graphics performance is better with non-Sense ROMs because of newer kernel...
just..try it) play Asphalt 5 on Sense ROM then on Non-Sense ROM like OpenDesire...
WITHOUT OC and smth
I love sense too much for it's keyboard, clock and alarm
And HTC sync
Sense roms have better UI, useful apps, widgets and implements but they work slower (according to Quadrant scores)
Non-sense roms work faster(again, according to Quadrant scores), have a little extended battery life. But they have some important lacks. Gallery 3D works slow imo and there is no alternative. They have very basic UI(Google have to do something about that). There is no copy/paste like HTC's. bla bla..
I love both of them but non-sen roms need some time imo.
I just tried opendesire then defrost....defrost has the cm options which i prefer over opendesire. And it feels so much quicker than sense roms.
Does anyone know if n1 cm themes would work with cm rom for desire...hense then work for defrost since it is cm basically???
I use t-mod, an Australian variant of Leedroid. I really dig it, buy I would get rid of Sense in an instant as it does little but slow down Froyo. The only advantages for me are the Data on/off widget, and the fact that it doesn't have the oj and headphone jack death bug. I love the horizontal caller id slider - the Sense up/down one kept answering or declining in my pocket until I got widget locker, which is a great workaround but you have to slide open widget locket before you get to the caller id screen. As soon as the oj death issue is fixed I will change over, no typing app is accurate enough to do without it imho, and none even have forward delete to make it even slightly tolerable.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Oh, to elaborate, I tried Opendesire, but as I understand it, all non- sense roms have the oj death bug.
is there any way to get sense apps like the Music, camera, and phone onto vanlla phones or on cyanogen
I was hoping there was a way to get the dialer from a sense rom onto any stock rom. I actually may try that out later this week and see if it works (doubtful).
It requires sense framework for the Widgets as I've asked this before, as far as camera mods and what not I've seen that on vanilla roms but I'm sure there are geniuses that dwell on XDA that could figure it out.
Sent from my Google Phone
Eventually, there will be hacked up ROMs with bits and pieces from every corner of the earth - I wanted the same thing on my Nexus (stock with the HTC cam) and there were a few options (though all had bugs here and there). Given the G2 was *just* permrooted, it might be a few weeks/months before you see some really creative ROMs.
Other stuff, like the lockscreen, can be changed with apps like widgetlocker and such.
You should definitely try out the Desire Z rom, though. It's all kinds of awesome, with new features that weren't there in previous versions of Sense. Hell, the camera app alone is worth it - makes the stock Android camera app look like a joke.
Sense apps have never and will never work on a non-sense based rom as it has far too much reliance on lots of frameworks (its a messy area).
The closest you will get is a rom like SuperVillain (out later today) that is a Sense based rom but with Rosie (Launcher) and widgets removed so looks like vanilla but still has all the sense apps working.
Keep an eye on villainrom.co.uk or the dev section here on xda for the rom release of SuperVillainZ

Enomther's TheOfficial has the option of both the HTC Camera and the HTC Music app - plus you can install the HTC IME (onscreen keyboard) easily as an APK (there's even a kitchen that lets you customize the colors and such).
Your sig claims you've owned 4 android phones. So you're obviously not a super noob. So my question to you is -
Did searching just not occur to you, or did you honestly believe you were not the 7,548th person to ask this question?
I am not asking about sense widgets because im aware that i need to have the sense framework running but im just wondering about the 2 apps Camera and Music. i know that enmothers rom gives you the option to install the 2 if you want and am just wondering if its possible to do the same for cyanogen.
also i have used the Sense Roms for the G2 but i was never really a fan of non Vanilla android.

A couple of apps may have been REBUILT to work without sense, but its not an easy job and certainly isn't something a lot of people have done.
the HTC IME keyboard was pretty much an entire rewrite of the code based on what the htc one looked like, its not the apk from sense just moved over.
I can't comment on the camera or music, but I imagine these are the same.

There has been a sense app ported to stock. Enom ported the HTC camera to his stock ROM for the Nexus... I remember running it.. That was a great ROM
Sorry, I see this has already been covered... But I know the app wasn't rewritten, it was a straight port, with the stock framework rewritten, so it was a straight app port

I really like the browser from sense, I use lpp for widgets so I'm good there. I asked about getting some sort of plug in for google translate onto vanilla browser and got nothing but flame. Hopefully gingie brings this to us... I mean is there any other plug ins other then flash? Honest question

Is it possible? I just take the apk and install it as a standalone app?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I don't think this would work as it may require some sense components.
I would prefer to use the HTC Dialer myself instead of Gingerbread's default.
You should check out Go Dialer and Go Contacts. They are the closest apps I have found to the sense functionality
TouchPal dialer provides similar function
As far as using HTC apps on AOSP, it's a no go. HTC use their own framework so you would have to get all the libs and try to port it. Big ask and just something someone won't do. Prob because there are a lot of Sense roms out there.
You could try and flash MIUI's.dialer. That's pretty close to HTC'S version.

Another possibility would be to try a desensed Sense-ROM like Leedroid (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703) and after that reinstall rosie.apk

Hi guys,
Is there any chance a ROM with vanilla ICS will be made. I dont think i like this Sense.. IMO, ics is better consumed in its pure glory.

I would personally like this as well, and I doubt we're alone... (And then provide apks for the stock HTC apps separately, so we can choose the ones we actually want to keep.)

It never works like this. You either have sense or you don't.
I'd say there is a very good chance we will get vanilla ICS roms - other Tegra3 devices are already getting them. Only difficulty will be the camera I imagine.

Hopefully the device is popular enough for a CM9 official release.
Hopefully soon..that way I can update all my black&cyan themed gapp's

There is "ics" roms based on Sense, that is all sense apps are replaced with ICS apps except where they are better (camera and album for instance) but everything else is ICS. And it works great, i have tested some of these on my evo (wich doesnt even have official ICS yet) so it is possible.
but those are sense based and the advantage is that all hardware works as well as stock but if you want pure AOSP you have to wait a month or two, or more, before a proper aosp kernel and compile from aosp is made.
Has htc released kernel-source for one x yet?

I didn't say Sense, I said apps. I don't know exactly what apps are on the phone yet, and whether there's anything worth having; on my Asus tablet there's a bunch of crap, but there are also a few things (eg. Splashtop) that are worthwhile.
I hope so. S

Yep, and the sense apps are all tied into the sense framework, which means you need a sense rom.
I don't think there is any question of whether or not this phone will be popular enough for CM9 to take it on board - this and the SGSIII are going to be the 2 biggest phones this year. It's just a matter of time before it happens.

In ICS you can dissable apps (essentialy uninstalling apps but they come back after a whipe) like for instance 3'rd party music-apps like soundhound etc.
But sense is there. rosie, clock app etc.
But most apps can also be added back from ICS from what i have seen, like clock, alarm, calendar, e-mail etc and thuss making a sense device "aosp" like without acctualy removing things you need from a sense based rom like binary drivers.

What? oO
Ain't Sense just being another laucher app? Everything else basically being reskins and shameless rips of "unsensed" apps (like Twitter for sense and all that ****) ?
You can install another launcher, and use Titanium to kill/freeze most Sense apps. I use a ICS launcher from a N1 ICS rom. And it works fine. Wish I could replace the status bar / notification drawer as well tho.

There is something called a framework. You can't use sense Widgets on another launcher because of it.

Again, I wasn't referring to Sense apps. This is my first HTC phone; most other manufacturers usually bundle stock apps, I know HTC is bundling some free versions like TuneIn, but don't know if they also bundle any paid ones worth having. Those are what I'm referring to, NOT Sense.

I'd also love a stock ics rom. Only thing that needs to be ported would be the camera app. Omg the app is just the best cam app. The stock camera app is useless in comparison.
Everything else can be scrapped

Not to belabor the point already raised in this thread, but the Sense Camera cannot be ported over to any other ROM. As previously mentioned, the Sense Camera is one of the apps that are inextricably tied to the overall Sense framework. You need to have a Sense-based ROM for the Sense Camera to work.
Just to save any potential heartache for people hoping to port it over to an AOSP-based ROM. Too many tears have been shed already-- many of them mine :]
I hope this happens...The day this ROM comes out for HTC ONE X...is the day i buy it!
OR SGS 3..whichever is quicker!
The ARHD Rom has a lite version stripped from sense.. try that in the development section
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Just to clarify here, there's "senseless" and then there's "AOSP".
Senseless is based on HTC stock rom but with many HTC apps removed and replaced with ICS stock. Many of the apps are better however you still have the same underlying framework, it's still a htc sense rom at the core.
AOSP is built from google source, there's not one line of sense in it. It's leaner, meaner, faster, better on battery, but it'll take alot longer to get it running properly. It WILL NOT support most HTC apps, particuarly the camera as these all tie into the HTC core (which doesn't exist in AOSP).
You cannot remove sense from a HTC rom, you can just remove the apps. It's like chopping the top off a weed but leaving the roots. You can't see it, but you still have weeds
M.
I have no idea what you are all talking about, but I know I need Vanilla!! Really hate SENSE...
If I had AOSP would it mean that my camera would not work at all? Or would it just mean that some of the SENSE functions would not be possible to use?

If you had a proper AOSP rom (like CM9, AOKP etc) then the camera would work to take photos and videos, but none of the dual record/high speed type stuff is likely to work. There may even be problems in early builds just trying to get it working, a dedicated imaging chip is quite unusual and depends on what architectural changes there are.
And, if you don't know what I'm talking about with senseless vs aosp, how can you even know that you *need* vanilla ics??
