Hi to all !
Three weeks ago I got my HTC Wildfire S and it was shipped as S-off.
This is what I get if I access HBOOT mode:
MARVEL PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-0.90.0000
MICROP-0451
RADIO-7.46.35.08
Apr 8 2011, 17:45:10
I tried: Gingerbreak 1.20, SuperOneClick v2.0, Z4Root, Unrevoked 3.32 and all without succes to root my phone.
Is there any other way to do this ?
Can I flash Wildfire S with one custom ROM and then try to get root ?
I read about that this official ROM with Gingerbread 2.3.3 still have kind of NAND security.
Is it possible even if the phone is S-Off ?
Can I downgrade to one other, lower version then 2.3.3 of Android and get the root and then again come back to higher version of Android but then with root access, and if yes could someone explain how to do this please ?
Are the ROM's from old Wildfire (Buzz) compatible with Wildfire S (Marvel) and what is the risk to test them and still not to brick my phone ?
Thanks in advance to all !
Since your phone is S-OFF, you could try flashing the official ROM :http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Marvel
On that ROM, Gingerbreak is guaranteed to work (I've done it twice already).
Interesting ,
Shipped as S-Off by mistake ?!?
Some devices are shipped S-off.
This thread is ready to be moved to the General section
O.K.
But is there any chance that later, after update, it will not work anymore as it should work or something like that ?
And how can I preserve (BackUp) this original ROM from this device without root access and before flashing, because if something go wrong then I can restore the original ROM ...?
Greetz !
And to Mods I owe an apologie for posting in wrong section, sorry.
Rooted
I did what LeeCHeSSS has me suggested and now is my Wildfire S rooted and with SuperUser. I didn't use custom recovery.
Thanks LeeCHeSSS !
Dankjewel !
Mine also came with S-off. Did anyone rooted this device? Is there any kind of tutorial for this? I am doing this for the first time in my life..
Look in development section.

I found it! I was looking at the wrong thread! I will try the tutorial I found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195275.
Just did it and it works! Everything is OK! I have root . Thanks and special thanks to Heritz !
Downgrade to older stock ROM
All what you have to do is to download official ROM as LeeCHeSSS has explained up :
"Since your phone is S-OFF, you could try flashing the official ROM :http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?ca...d&model=Marvel
On that ROM, Gingerbreak is guaranteed to work (I've done it twice already). "
After that you have to download Gingerbreak 1.20 and execute it and after that your device will be rooted.
You don't need custom recovery.
Cheers !
Or just flash a custom rom which is pre rooted.

I had tried to root wildfire who was updated to 2.2. Now I had tried to root the phone. And near to the end there writes
Error:failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?
Does that mean that is impossible to root wildfire while hi is on 2.2 version and I must downgrade it to 2.1 version to root phone?
And how will I downgrade it?
And can I upgrade it again after downgrading.
Sorry for my bed grammar, and please help me.
Did you use the unrevoked method to root your phone? Cause it is a method rooting only 2.1 devices. Check out revolutionary.io where you should find all the guide to root your 2.2.1 phone.

I have rooted my phone, can I update phone to 2.2 again?
Did you use revolutionary method? It gives you s-off, and the ability to flash a custom recovery. It does not upgrade-downgrade your ansroid version. Go to settings, about phone, and there you can see your android version. Hypothetically, without flashing a new rom, like cm7, you are still on sense, so nothing has changed except the fact you have root access, which you can find out installing titanium backup from the market.
Have a happy new year with your new rooted phone.

I actually can't tell you which the best rom is, you have to see for yourself. I love cm7, though i've tried many roms with or without sense. Flash them, try them, and choose the one that suits you. Check this thread out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318&highlight=roms

Hi all, so I've been trying to update my hboot from 0.75.0000 to .93 but have been FAILING miserably. I'm currently on ICS, and have tried alpharev which didn't work. Trying to flash rom to RUU has also failed but I don't know why. Flashed my radio to match the one with the RUU and that didn't work, which i'm guessing is due to the inability to simply flash from ICS to 2.2 or 2.3?
So my question is, any other tips?
Try to flash the hboot downgrade from alpharev then the right RUU. If that works you can root and s-off your phone with unrevoked/revolutionary. If you want to change hboot to cmr7 or data ++ (example) you MUST be s-off......

Thanks for tip, I've actually done alpharev and it also failed. Reason being it needs a rom that doesn't already have a2sd, any suggestion as to which rom is suitable?
Thanks
Edit: I've actually online done the hboot reflash, and not the downgrade. Will give that a go first and see what happens.
I think that all the rooted roms have some sort of a2sd, that's why I think you have to start from the beginning. Start with an original ruu.bring it back to its original state wich came out of the box...my knowledge doesn't reach that far ;-) its the easyest way I think.

Can you post your complete bootloader. Turn of phone, hold down volume and press power. What info does the left upper corner give you ?

MICROP-031D
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-4.05.00.11
MAR 5 2010,21:12:15
Still I think what's best is to go back all the way and install a ruu. Then go directly to revolutionary. It will root and s-off your phone and installs the custom hboot.
Maybe I have more time to help tonight, I am at work now :-(

Hey there, firstly I would like to thank you for ALL your help and of course the effort you've put in it.
I've actually fixed it by firstly going to page ~16 of the android development forum for the desire, get an old rom, flash it in and then performed the alpharev. Lo and behold it worked because the rom is reasonably old and a2sd was "new" then. Flashed it back to ICS now and I am proud to announced that I S-OFF'ED!!! Partition done and OFF I GO.
That's great !!!! Have fun with your fixed desire )))

yep .. desire s appears on video but as you can read in the memo associated in the same youtube page it works even on "HTC Desire, HTC Desire S, HTC Wildfire, HTC Aria, HTC Incredible S, HTC Droid Incredible 2, HTC Thunderbolt, HTC Evo 4G, HTC View, HTV Flyer, HTC Sensation, HTC Evo 3D and the myTouch 4G" (the memo contains also text of all procedure ..
I think is interesting for the bad_boys question, first is a all-in-one procedure to SOFF, Recovery acquisition and Root, after becouse to root a Desire already on GB require a more complicate procedure respect a froyo based one.
Revolutionary does not root your phone a jmclue said. It uses temp root (I believe) to gain s-off and flash a custom recovery.
The easiest way to obtain root after using revolutionary is to flash an already rooted custom rom.
If you want to root your current rom I think there is a zip file you can flash to do this.
I personally rooted my desire and flashed recovery using an older version of unrevoked (I think it was 3.21). I s-off'ed using alpharev some months later. It is not necessary to be s-off to flash custom roms. If you can get it to work I personally think it is easier to use unrevoked as it is a one click solution. Read all the guides before attempting this however.

Yes revolutionary is for 0.93.0001 & 1.02.0001 hboots and is very very simple and straight foward to use

S-off has nothing to do with android version on your phone or with root. Everything depends on your hboot version.
Revolutionary does the job with 0.93 and 1.02 hboot, for older versions of hboots Alpharev Reflash Utility should be used.
The problem with Unrevoked is that it cannot bypass never hboots to flash superuser to system.

imo jmcclue has given the right advice and dont do anything else. You can find detailed instructions in the guide he has referred to but the overall picture is like this:-
- Use revolutionary from revolutionary.io to get SOFF. As part of this process you will also get a custom recovery.
- Flash root package from revolutionary.io if you want to get root on current rom else choose a custom rom and flash from recovery.
Thats all

Not to my knowledge. I have been trying to install custom ROM with S-ON for 6 months now. I'm just here checking to see if there were any new developements an noticed your post.
with an unlocked boot loader it is possible to root de wildfire S, but I have not been able to install custom ROM. The main reason is that it is not possible to access keyareas in de operating system. So far I know without S-off you can only flash a new boot.img and a new system img.
It is best to unlock the bootloader and flash a pre-rooted system.img.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664533
At least this way you can use Link2SD so that the 150Mb internal storage in no longer an issue and you have root access so al other fun rooted phone stuff is available to you. You just cannot flash custom roms unfotunately...

Hey guys, i'm newbie with android phones, just bought WFS.. My buddy told me that it's possible to add a custom rom/recovery/rooting, so here's whats up.
Me and my friend has tried lots of different ways to add custom recovery for flashing custom rom (Cyanogen mod), Bootlocker is unlocked (S-ON still), its rooted (Found from here .zip what flashes custom rom(rooted) from cmd LINK HERE. Phone is i think bought in 2012 february, Android version 2.3.5 | Sense version 2.1 | Kernel version 2.6.35. [Q] int2ext in speed droid
Hi everybody, i'm using jelly king 2.0 for about a week now and, though really smooth and beautiful, I'm having data connection loss, so i'm gonna try speed droid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867712.
I was reading about int2ext scripts and if I got it correctly, they kind of substitute L2SD or similar right?
The things I dont' get about speed droid features is whether the int2ext script is already included in the rom or not. Do I have to include it using this guide? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31189532&postcount=87
In this case, adb shell should be run from pc or within the device by terminal emulator?
thanks for every help you can give me
edit: sorry guys, I read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31377729&postcount=1 so maybe i just need to flash int2ext+ script file over the rom. Am I correct?

Just flash the zip via recovery, wipe sd-ext, dalvik cache and cache. Rebot and there you have it.

Hey, thanks for creating a specific thread for inexperienced noobs like myself...
I'm using a wildfire S with 2.3.5. In the processes of trying to unlock my bootloader, I've tried to upload my token id to the HTC site. It gives me an error claiming that the is not the correct number of characters. The code is as follows:
