Getting EVO replaced? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a used EVO off eBay works fine but I was just wondering if it gets lost or damaged or anything, will Sprint replace it? Don't know if I have insurance.

If you have insurance, any phone you have connected to your number automatically is covered. lets say If you bought a used evo and it was all messed up but you were able to activate it on your line, then you can walk right into sprint for repair.

I was just wondering if it gets lost or damaged or anything, will Sprint replace it?

Sprint doesn't handle insurance, that's done through Asurion.

Look on your bill and see if you are paying 7 dollars a month for TEP. If not, call sprint and see if you can add it.

If you have TEP, Sprint had no issues replacing the device so long as the device has been active for 30 days and has the TEP. other wise its insurance fraud.. Just fyi.

thanks guys, I just added it for my evo. I was wondering if I bring it to the sprint store, will they fix/replace/repair the light leakage on my phone? And vibrating motor is kinda worn out.
Also would they rollback the firmware?

If the phone is less than one year old (from the first activation date) then its still under warranty, and they should fix it. If its past a year, you will have to pay 100 dollar deductible through asurion.

No, as discussed MANY MANY MANY times, sprint cannot rollback firmware from 2.3.

Sprint doesn't fix the broken screens for $35 anymore. They did that for a month or two and then stopped. $100 is your deductible to get your phone replaced via Asurion (the company that insures your phone).

Its cheaper if you don't use insurance, but you gotta buy the parts and install them yourself. So it's a double-edged sword.

If I ever drop my phone I will get replacement for phone not screen only. Reason - had situation in past when dropped phone and board get damaged after which phone start having reception issues. Does anyone think about possibility that something else may be damaged too and you wont know until you pay those $100 for screen? But again that's just me.
I had my phone fixed (broken glass) by a sprint store, no insurance, for $35 on April 5th.
$100 just for a screen? That's nuts. That's the amount I payed for my phone when it was on sale.
Screens can still be repaired for $35 if you do not have insurance, but it is a ONE TIME COURTESY. We only do it for customers we know absolutely need their phone and do not have time to wait on one backordered from Asurion.

Really? The repair center I went to when this happened under 2 months ago straight up that they couldn't touch or even look at a phone that had any signs of physical damage.
Technically if the evo has less than 2 cracks that are less than 2" we can fix or replace for the $35 (free if you have TEP)
The screen is done.cracks everywhere..thanks for all the info..
Phone was old and worn anyway with power button crack light leaking out from the side of it..
Other Evo here in three days upgrade in January, can't wait for new Evo 3d..

There are also several tutorials on doing it yourself. The EVO is a very easy phone to take apart. I've replaced screen and digitizer on my friends. Only took me an hr taking my time. But then again, doing it yourself will cost you money. Up to you

FYI, if you broke the screen, sprint wont fix it. You will have to go through Asurion and pay the deductible. But to answer your question, if the screen doesnt work, there is no way for sprint to find out if it's rooted or not.

^This.
Sprint's warranty doesn't include dropping it. The insurance covers everything. You just have to pay the deductible. When you go through the insurance they don't care if its rooted or not. The only thing that matters is if hardware just stops working. Then if you're rooted and you're wanting Sprint to fix it you need to be unrooted.

I have taken my rooted Evo into multiple service and repair centers, and the techs have always repaired it. They are trained not to but they don't get paid if they don't so why would they care if your phones rooted.
Never had a problem with Sprint repairing any of my phones, rooted or not. That being said, if worst comes to worst, it's not too terribly difficult to disassemble an Evo to replace the LCD. Replacements can be ordered online for around $25-$50.

TEP and Other Questions.

My phone fell out of my pocket earlier today and cracked. I discovered that my TEP ran out a few days ago. I called in at Sprint support and a few other Sprint stores near me. They told me that they can't repair the screen without the protection plan.
I was wondering if I could buy TEP after my phone cracked and get it replaced?
What are my other options of getting it fixed?
If nothing else works, could I setup my phone to fail and get Sprint to replace it?
Thanks ahead of time.

If you're within 30 days of activating the device or upgrading, then you can still apply for TEP and file a claim.

Try contacting a Sprint rep vía the online chat to see if they can apply the TEP to your account. I've found them to be a lot more helpful.

Yeah, I don't really get the point of insurance if it doesn't cover physical damage. Where did you get it from and how much do you pay?
so looks like the guy on the phone gave me wrong info... I do have sprint's total equipment protection plan... sucks that the deductible is $150 though..
Just report your phone lost, they'll send you a new one, then go to the nearest sprint store and sell the old one, your deductible will be covered by the buyback

I thought if you report the phone stolen that they block the IMEI or something so the phone can't be used anyway.
I know when I was with t-mobile, one could just take the SIM card out and change it. Not understanding how it works with Sprint phones since they have to be activated. Google time lol.

I would go into the sprint store (that does repairs), show the person at the front your phone and tell them you want to talk to a tech to see about repairing the phone. You may be surprised, or not, at what they'll do. They'll either fix it there for less, or replace the phone for nothing seeing as you just got it. I wouldn't push that second option, but that's what they did for me without me even asking. Could have been the particular manager trying to boost her happy customer numbers, who knows. I've had sprint for 12 years, and have had SERO for 5+ of those. Still not sure why she did it, but I'm happy.
Heck, if it doesn't get you the free replacement outcome, go to a non-repair center store and try the same thing, as if you didn't know it was a non-repair store.

I guess lost things can be found...as far as ethics go we are talking about insurance, that in itself teeters on ethical behavior. we pay the premiums and sometimes need to utilize their "services". they will find a way to raise the price anyway if they need to.

I JUST HAD A WHOLE THREAD ON THIS WHY DIDN'T YOU SEARCH? It cost about 178.50 to repair per my conversation with Samsung, and this covers next day shipping there and back. I went to a Sprint Corporate store to get a repair because it was a minor crack that left the phone operating flawlessly. The tech told me that "Sprint" has a no repair on phones for some strange reason they are not allowed to repair phones.
Since Sprint is an Agent for Asurion insurance the are making money on the 150.00 deductible, and taking your phone and repairing these crack to make profit. So in essence the 11.00 fee is just gravy on top of that.
Drop insurance and just pay Sammy to fix it....the nerve of Sprint over charging for minor repairs like a cracked glass. I found an official front glass cover for 25.00. To repair it should not coast much, but you need an official repair or it may void the Samsung warranty.

Reporting the phone lost when it's not and getting a new one with insurance is really unethical and also probably illegal. If you're going to do that, though, might as well "cleanse" the ESN of the old one and sell it on ebay for $500-600.
i had sprint for 2 years now and i had over 12 replacements. I started off with htc evo and they kept braking down and I would just take it to tech people and they replaced for free and then as replacement. I got htc evo 3d and then had few of them kept braking down or something then I got a moto photon and i was really dropped it and cracked screen they had extra photon that was going back for something other bad and he swapped screen onto my photon and went thought few more and then i got a SGS2 as a replacement. Everyone was shocked I got it as a replacement from sprint and then I havent spent anything to replace or fix my cell yet and now renewed my contract and got SGS3 and i love it
sprint been best service I have had for phones (I use to work for tmobile ......and had custom plan...)

Anyone else here have Radioshack insurance?

I've got the $7.49/month (I think) radioshack insurance on my device. My device is acting up and I'm thinking I'm going to get a new one. It's a $100 deductible (not that bad) but does anyone here know of the process you go through? Am I going to be without a device for 2+ weeks? Will I get a new phone or a refurb? I just got back from work and their help desk is offline so I thought I'd ask my fellow XDA'ers, who might have RS insurance.

If it's repaired is there a deductible? Sorry, the way you worded it sounds like that.
Sorry, repairs don't cost you a dime.
There are two service plans, both cover repairs, one covers accidental damage w/ a deductible.
You pay a deductable. $100. If they deem it unfixable or too many broken things they will replace it. However for me it took a whole week. Best thing however is j can give it to a radio shack store and they will send it out for you. Secondly. U can get store credit equal to ur phone value later down the line. Like say the Galaxy S IV comes out if j vet where I'm going with this
Sent from a Galaxy SIII presented by Sprint.
So, in summary...is it a good choice to take this program over Asurion? Asurion deductible is $150 vs $100 from Radioshack and $10 monthly fee vs $7.49.
I think I have a window still to apply the radioshack insurance, but wasn't sure if it was a good deal or not :/
Well, just an update. They still have my phone as of Aug 30th or so. I talked with them via online chat last night and they mentioned that they can't repair it and they're going to send me a "comparable spec'd" device. I'm a little scared they're going to send me an Evo. I've sent them an email with a request for the sph-l710. Hopefully they're cool about it and will send me a new GSIII or a check for retail price of it.
Otherwise I'll be quite upset.
Radio shack won't cover lost or stolen tho. Have to have the device to claim....only fallback really
Hopefully they'll send an S3, an EVO would piss me the fu¢k off.

Yeah, but I got the device on July 1st. Also, Assuraunt (Radioshack's 3rd party insurance), shipped the phone and it is to arrive at my house today by 4:30pm. I have work at 4:00 so it's going to be a long day. lol
I'll let you guys know if it's an SIII or Evo. :'-(
It's a brand new SIII. Complete with a new battery, too. Awesome.
