I've got the $7.49/month (I think) radioshack insurance on my device. My device is acting up and I'm thinking I'm going to get a new one. It's a $100 deductible (not that bad) but does anyone here know of the process you go through? Am I going to be without a device for 2+ weeks? Will I get a new phone or a refurb? I just got back from work and their help desk is offline so I thought I'd ask my fellow XDA'ers, who might have RS insurance.

ypu will be without a device for about 3 buisness day. first off they will try to repair your handset, if thats not possible they will either send you a new device if they are in stock or a gift card for the total retail price of the handset.

If it's repaired is there a deductible? Sorry, the way you worded it sounds like that.
Sorry, repairs don't cost you a dime.
There are two service plans, both cover repairs, one covers accidental damage w/ a deductible.
You pay a deductable. $100. If they deem it unfixable or too many broken things they will replace it. However for me it took a whole week. Best thing however is j can give it to a radio shack store and they will send it out for you. Secondly. U can get store credit equal to ur phone value later down the line. Like say the Galaxy S IV comes out if j vet where I'm going with this
Sent from a Galaxy SIII presented by Sprint.
So, in summary...is it a good choice to take this program over Asurion? Asurion deductible is $150 vs $100 from Radioshack and $10 monthly fee vs $7.49.
I think I have a window still to apply the radioshack insurance, but wasn't sure if it was a good deal or not :/
Well, just an update. They still have my phone as of Aug 30th or so. I talked with them via online chat last night and they mentioned that they can't repair it and they're going to send me a "comparable spec'd" device. I'm a little scared they're going to send me an Evo. I've sent them an email with a request for the sph-l710. Hopefully they're cool about it and will send me a new GSIII or a check for retail price of it.
Otherwise I'll be quite upset.
Radio shack won't cover lost or stolen tho. Have to have the device to claim....only fallback really
Hopefully they'll send an S3, an EVO would piss me the fu¢k off.

If you got it less than a month ago, get sprint insurance. $11 a month, deductible $159 ONLY if it is lost or stolen, liquid, or physical. GPS issues, they'll replace it for free.

Yeah this is why I have Sprint TEP. More expensive yes but they replace for free if you have issues with gps and other stuff. Obviously if the device is physically damaged they will tell you to go to asurion.

Yeah, but I got the device on July 1st. Also, Assuraunt (Radioshack's 3rd party insurance), shipped the phone and it is to arrive at my house today by 4:30pm. I have work at 4:00 so it's going to be a long day. lol
I'll let you guys know if it's an SIII or Evo. :'-(
It's a brand new SIII. Complete with a new battery, too. Awesome.

Ok, I bought my Evo on launch day so I am way past BBuys warranty period of 30 days but I know it has a manuf warranty of 1 year. Has anyone had warranty work done through HTC, not Sprint?
Fyi, the reason why I need it replaced is because it has a big burn-in? spot that you can clearly see when it boots on the white HTC EVO 4G page
you can always check with best buy. My understanding is that they will do MFG returns if the MFG permits it. I have done this with HDDs and headphones and such that have gone bad, and would have taken weeks sending to the MFG.
so you can have them straight up exchange it, else wise go to a sprint repair store and they might fix it on the spot. Either way you'll probably need to unroot.
No go. I just got back from Best Buy and they basically told me to pound sand. He suggested next time "maybe you'll try our black tie equipment program" lol
So nobody on this board has ever went thru HTC for a replacement under manuf warranty?

If you go in there complaining a storm up they MIGHT swap your phone.
Believe it or not Sprint loves getting their monthly fix off of you.
Take it to a Sprint Repair Center. BB is not responsible for warranty repairs, those are done though sprint.

Well you certainly CAN go through HTC, but it will take up to a month, and you will be without a phone for that long, and you have to pay to ship it.
I just got my phone replaced by sprint but it cost me $35. I called Sprint, said my phone was acting funny and that I use it for work and needed a new one ASAP. The girl said no problem as long as I cover the shipping and processing $35. I got a new phone the next day and shipped my old one back.
No insurance.

i think that is pretty good. although u probably could have gone to the sprint store and gotten it replaced without the $35 fee
So, is the one they sent you a Refurb or NEW one??
I managed to crack my screen and was going to take it in to see if I could get service on it at Sprint, and was wondering how much trouble I'm going to get for having a custom ROM and 'suspected root' on the device?
I have a doc from 4/4/11 from sprint itself that says they are supposed to service it anyway and 'counsel' me on not rooting - is this still current policy or is there a newer doc to have on-hand if I catch flak for a custom ROM?
You'll have to pay a deductible even if you have TEP. They changed things.... so they can't refuse you service for a rooted phone.

Apparently the last time they did an in-store repair of the phone was a fluke - I got told they don't do any physical repairs at the store anymore.
Now the fun part is to file a claim and get my phone cloned and restored to the new device. $100 - yay. Half tempted to take that money and put it towards the Note I've been looking at for a while.

I was just told that my wifes screen was too cracked to repair and I had to file a claim and pay the $100. I asked what it would cost me to pay them direct to replace the screen and I was told they could not do it. Neither he nor I understood that but he said that was policy because the crack was too big. If the crack was smaller they would replace it for me.
Who knows anymore?

I just cracked my Epic 4G screen tonite.
I love my phone, but I've been jonesing for a Note too.
I have TEP.
A Samsung Note in my neighborhood is going for $549 plus a two year contract through ATT. Better deal on EBAY, at least if I don't miss 4G too much.
Glad they are no longer prejudiced against rooted phones.
I have CleanGB 1.1.2 MTD, and my USB computer access doesn't work any more, so I signed on to see how I could best brick my poor little Epic 4G so they wouldn't notice it's rooted, since I can't connect to ODIN to return to stock.
I expect that installing a BML rom might do the job, but I'm glad I won't have to figure it out.

Sprint does service and/or rooted handsets but DOES NOT repair root devices with cracked screens where there are 3+ cracks and the length of the crack on any of them exceeds 1". There is value to their $8 or $11 TEP considering if you took advantage of a handset discount less than 20 months ago, you would be purchasing a replacement device at full retail price. I'd rather pay $100, $150 or $200 for the TEP deductible than have to pay up to $600 for full price.

For $99 I could send my phone away for repair or buy one buy one off EBAY or Cowboom. Sprint will give me a refurbished phone for my $100 deductible. Assuming they have another Epic 4g Galaxy S in stock, the only advantage of dealing with Sprint is convenience of not having to wait for one to come in the mail.
I have a hope they will have one in stock only because it's the biggest corporate store in New York City.
Else they are all mail options for the same price with absolutely no reason to pay $7 monthly to sprint.
If I had a brand new Galaxy Note, however, then it would be worthwhile cos I see those suckers Ebay for a Grand!. It gets like gambling.

So last Friday I bought my SGSIII at Radio Shack. Dude asked me if I want their insurance. I tell him "No I already have insurance through Sprint" last night I get home and my phone falls out of the car. Screen cracks in the upper right corner. I call Sprint to file a claim and they tell me that Friday July 27th the insurance was removed from the account. LOL WTF? Radio Shack guy deleted my insurance. Now I have to go in circles with Sprint and Assuron to see if they will add the insurance back on and take my claim. But I'm thinking that I should do into Radio Shack and demand a brand new phone free of charge. Who agrees?
Im guessing your from the states and Im from the uk. But if i had this problem then i wiuld honestly go to Radio shack and ask if you coukd still have the insurence. As it is still withing a 14 day prerod. And then if they agree and it all gets set up then i would wait a few after the insurence is active and then claim on the insurence lol.

I'm not sure if Radio Shack has that and if they cover damage. I think the 14 days is if you are not satisfied with the product.
"If you are not satisfied with your purchase for any reason, and it is in its original new condition, simply call us within 14 days of the activation or process date shown on your sales receipt"
However I will talk to the store manager because I do not feel that I should have to wait for Sprint to determine if they will accept the claim because of Radio Shack's error. With a crack there is always a potential for more damage. Crack gets larger etc... We'll see what they say
If he removed your insurance without telling you, you should try demanding a new phone.

same thing happened to me when i tried to activate phone when i got my s3 luckly i caught it in time was able to get my battery replaced becuase they added insurance back to my account when i got activated
demanding a new phone from the shack wont work. They wont even think about covering damage done by the consumer. Your best bet is to call asurion and sprint and hope they feel it was a misunderstanding. Did you always have insurance b4 getting the s3?
I work at radio shack..
From my experience, it was the sales mans fault for not putting it back on.
We aren't supposed to sell sprints insurance. So when he upgraded the phone he had to select premium data and didn't check the tep insurance. It usually gets removed and you have to add it back on. Then again you could've had some **** of a salesman.
Usually we're pretty good at radio shack, we help the customers out alot.
Go in there let them know the situation. It could've been an inexperienced sales guy. Bring in proof of having insurance as well from your last phone

If not, you can get radioshqck insurance BEFORE you complain. Go the next few days and turn your phone in. The deductible is less than sprints but they have to ship the phone out so you need a backup phone. Usually takes 3-14days from my understanding
Sent from my galaxy nexus using xda app-developers app
Same thing happened to me when I got my phone from best buy. Declined their insurance because I had sprint's. Got home and checked online to make sure insurance was still there, but it had been removed. Chatted with sprint and was told they themselves removed it because instead of paying the usual $8 it had gone up to $11 because of the "suggested retail price when it launched and the rising replacement cost of high end phones, they found it necessary to increase TEP monthly charges". They put it back once I agreed to the change in price

I'm waiting for the store manager to call me back on it. Hoping she will do what's right and exchange the phone. Sprint is looking into weather or not they will honor a claim like I said but there's a chance they may not and there's also this waiting time now.
I got my G3 at Radio Shack and the salesman assured me I could get my $38 Activation fee waived given my 10+ tenure with Sprint.
It's not that he was wrong it's that he was very wrong. He was either ignorant or deceitful. Get it in writing.

Radio Shack isnt doing anything for me. I feel that they should replace it. I should not have to wait and risk further damage
We always have nothing but problems regarding insurance with customers that purchase their devices at RadioShack. Most customers do not return to RadioShack when they have a problem, they go to Sprint repair location. Then we have to explain that they don't have insurance and RadioShack duped them.
It's an all-around headache for me at least. I'm not knocking any employees here, but RadioShack's marketing on their insurance is deceitful and shady.
EASY.. Demand the manager log in to sprint terminal and add the insurance back, it can be done.

Radio Shack did not do anything for me. I talked to the store manager. She talked to her DM and they sand they will not replace the phone. I faxed her my current Sprint account info showing there is no insurance and faxed her my last bill showing I was billed and had it prior and still nothing. She is supposed to be contacting their Sprint sales rep to see if he will do anything about it. It's not a matter of getting the insurance added back on. it's a matter of getting the phone replaced and not having to pay full price for another.

I would go into the sprint store (that does repairs), show the person at the front your phone and tell them you want to talk to a tech to see about repairing the phone. You may be surprised, or not, at what they'll do. They'll either fix it there for less, or replace the phone for nothing seeing as you just got it. I wouldn't push that second option, but that's what they did for me without me even asking. Could have been the particular manager trying to boost her happy customer numbers, who knows. I've had sprint for 12 years, and have had SERO for 5+ of those. Still not sure why she did it, but I'm happy.
Heck, if it doesn't get you the free replacement outcome, go to a non-repair center store and try the same thing, as if you didn't know it was a non-repair store.

I guess lost things can be found...as far as ethics go we are talking about insurance, that in itself teeters on ethical behavior. we pay the premiums and sometimes need to utilize their "services". they will find a way to raise the price anyway if they need to.

I JUST HAD A WHOLE THREAD ON THIS WHY DIDN'T YOU SEARCH? It cost about 178.50 to repair per my conversation with Samsung, and this covers next day shipping there and back. I went to a Sprint Corporate store to get a repair because it was a minor crack that left the phone operating flawlessly. The tech told me that "Sprint" has a no repair on phones for some strange reason they are not allowed to repair phones.
Since Sprint is an Agent for Asurion insurance the are making money on the 150.00 deductible, and taking your phone and repairing these crack to make profit. So in essence the 11.00 fee is just gravy on top of that.
Drop insurance and just pay Sammy to fix it....the nerve of Sprint over charging for minor repairs like a cracked glass. I found an official front glass cover for 25.00. To repair it should not coast much, but you need an official repair or it may void the Samsung warranty.

Just report your phone lost, they'll send you a new one, then go to the nearest sprint store and sell the old one, your deductible will be covered by the buyback

Reporting the phone lost when it's not and getting a new one with insurance is really unethical and also probably illegal. If you're going to do that, though, might as well "cleanse" the ESN of the old one and sell it on ebay for $500-600.
i had sprint for 2 years now and i had over 12 replacements. I started off with htc evo and they kept braking down and I would just take it to tech people and they replaced for free and then as replacement. I got htc evo 3d and then had few of them kept braking down or something then I got a moto photon and i was really dropped it and cracked screen they had extra photon that was going back for something other bad and he swapped screen onto my photon and went thought few more and then i got a SGS2 as a replacement. Everyone was shocked I got it as a replacement from sprint and then I havent spent anything to replace or fix my cell yet and now renewed my contract and got SGS3 and i love it
sprint been best service I have had for phones (I use to work for tmobile ......and had custom plan...)

I thought if you report the phone stolen that they block the IMEI or something so the phone can't be used anyway.
I know when I was with t-mobile, one could just take the SIM card out and change it. Not understanding how it works with Sprint phones since they have to be activated. Google time lol.

Go to your local store and talk to a tech when the manager is not around. Pay the guy/girl $50 bucks to do it on the side.

I must have missed something, what would have SEARCHING done in my case? Or, how would it have changed my post in response to this person's problem? Please enlighten me.
So my wife got a S3 and its really the first NICE phone she has ever owned, well she was startled by a Water Moccasin (snake not the shoes) and dropped it on concrete breaking the screen.
My question is, what happens when I take it to T-Mobile and use the replacement insurance? Will they take the phone and give her a new one?
Basically what I was thinking was if they let us keep the one we bought and give her a new one (with the $200 deductible) I could replace the $220 screen and digitizer and take the old fixed S3 for myself. So that would be around 440 bucks for me to upgrade (I'm about a year away from an upgrade).
I have an S2 T989 so its not a giant deal I upgrade this way, but I thought maybe you all had some better ideas.
Thanks
Tony

Unless it's was lost or stolen then they usually require you give them the damaged phone.

Just out of curiosity, if you claim a phone lost, do they flag the phone so it can't be used again?

They usually do so no one else can use it or reactivate it. Whether that's automated or they have to manually do it, that I dont know. But once its blocked its paper weight. But maybe you can activate it on Straight talk which can use Tmo towers.
I think the deductible is $130, but maybe Im wrong.

The reason I say is 200 is because she had the G2X, I screwed up the baseband and it would make stupid crazy noises when in call, so we took the phone to Tmobile, after I returned it to stock, and the replaced it with the s3 and she handed the G2x over to me.

doubt they would do that for you with an S3, the G2X was a curse they didn't want it back in their store any longer. By the way there was a baseband flash fix that is all you had to do to fix the crazy transformers sounds... But ya they will more then likely take the S3 from you guys.

Yeah I knew what was wrong with the phone, I just wanted that phone gone.
I once lost my Sensation 4G and filed an insurance claim. I received my new one the next day and used it for about a week. Then I actually found my old HTC and gave it to a family member who is still using it today. Phone was never blacklisted or anything like that.
I think you'll be fine.
Hey OP, So you had a G2X and did a replacement claim through Tmobile on it and received a S3?
Thats awesome lol
I've been waiting for them to stop sending out g2x's as replacement so that I can finally throw my g2x at a wall and receive something else.

Yup that's what we did, unfortunately we had to pay the $200 deductible for it to happen, but with all the trouble that phone caused my wife its well worth it.
Also, my wife went in to the store and talked to an actual person that understood her frustration. I think most T-Mobile employees know how ****ty that phone is, and personally, I thought they stopped using the G2x months ago. At least they should have.
I paid $80 to get a replacement phone. They ship refurbished units. I regret i didnt just say it was stolen and sell the broken screen one as is to some guy that would use it overseas.

Deductible is $130 and are you guys seriously discussing insurance fraud on a public forum??
Why does this $130 deductible come from? Why did we have to pay 200 just a month ago.
As far as the fraud comment, I was just curious and was asking questions about Tmobile's policy.
Almost all insurance has a deductible. If you read the pamphlet that came with the paperwork for the plan it's like $7.99 a month and a deductible of $10, 20 , 30, 130. I forget the exact amounts but it's based on the value of the phone. The deductible is why I said NO THANKS! It's not like those old Best Buy replacement plans, those were sweet deals.
