what kind of deals can be negeotiated for a new phone? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i want a evo 3d, and the sells rep told me that i would be eligible for $75 off the contract price in aug 2012. lol.
is there any room here for them to budge, i'd be ok with paying contract right now, but they said since i was already in a contract i couldn't get it for the contract price so my price that day was around $500 i think.
are there any angles to get this cheaper?
i have a evo 4g
the charge port is bad and is covered by warranty, so i get a free replacement.
they told me it would be a about 4 business days for a replacement, it has been 8 days and i haven't heard a thing.
also i just moved and at my new home and at work i get virtually no signal and i am missing calls, dropping calls and my battery is draining very quickly because of the lack of signal, in their defense the small city i live in has the best 3 g speed of anywhere i have been in the midwest. but still i cant hardly use my phone where i spend 95% of my time during the week.
all of the above are true and i dont want to scam anyone, but i would like to know if there is any way i can talk them into making me some awesome deal.
can any of this be used as an angle to get a 3d?

Bets bet would be to try to go through the buy back program, sell your evo for 150$, then I think you can get it for 100 or 50.

I still haven't heard back from the sprint store as of this morning. Apparently my shine has been there waiting me but no one called to inform.
Anyways, any negotiation tactics out there?

They'll give you their own arm if you sign up for a 20 year contract. :-D no upgrades. :-D 5 phones and only 250 minutes, so you have to go over every month. LOL!

This is the number to Account Services: 1-888-273-9460
They're the dept that can wheel and deal. You best bet is to claim ****ty signal and say what you've been reading online says the 3D gets better signal. Probably BS but who are they to argue with a customer?
If you've had the Evo since Aqugust you're most likely SOL on any kind of trade up. Your signal issue might be solved with an Airrave, a device that enhances Sprint signal. You'd need a landline-based internet service first but if you do the Airrave is the ****.
That Buyback idea is well worth looking into. With the Evo going down in price the 3D will be more affordable with a trade-in. If you think you can sell for more on Craigslist or something go for it, but the Buyback program lets you trade in then and there for instant money off that 3D.
Plus there's already temp root on the 3D so a full hack should be available anytime now.

Keep in mind it's entirely up to the person you talk to as far as what they charge for the device and if there's a monthly fee. The device normally goes for $100 with a $5 per phone line using it charge. If the account has been open more than 13 months/if you've never had a late payment or service suspension/if you don't have a spending limit on the account currently...there's a good chance the device will be free wih no monthly fee. Especially if you just moved into a ****ty service area. That's how I got mine free, I moved into ****ty service and my mother knows how to yell at them properly

EVO 3D price?

Okay I am not sure if I am a gold member or silver. On a $129 family plan and a premium customer. Say I wanted to switch to the 3D. How much would it cost since it's only been a year? $200, $270, or another price..? Thanks in advance.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You are only going to be a silver member with that plan, which means you will get $75 for upgrading at a year. Sprint would probably buy your Evo for $50 right now.
If you bought your Evo, or have been with Sprint long enough that you were gold before. Then you should be able to call them and get your upgrade re-instated. They also might give you $50 for agreeing to stay with Sprint.
And here is a real easy way to check without calling them. http://www.goodandevo.net/2011/05/how-to-check-htc-evo-upgrade-eligibility-via-text-message.html
I have done that text thing a few times. Due for my 1 year in August. I tried having my Sprint buddy explain it but he was somewhat busy. It's 75 instant savings and I think I'm silver member. Not at the 10 year mark yet. I just want to know the cost up front or should I wait. I'm looking for something with a better screen and dual core.

Evo is $150 on buyback right now. Call Customer Care to see if you qualify for a "Silver Tier Override". If so, you can upgrade now and buyback your Evo, making the 3D only $50.

$150? Where at? I have a 2 year upgrade available, I just want to wait for a better less phone that's less of a gimic...I don't wanna leave HTC phones because sense is the ultimate UI for syncing info but it looks as if I'm headed to a Samsung device in the future...
to be honest, I dont like the 3d screen at all.. the Evo 4g screen has a wider screen even though they are both 4.3" the Evo 4g has my props more then the 3d.. and i've played with a 3d for a day and I didnt care for the color.. the 3d tends to hurt the eyes a bit

Do you know how long the $150.00 buyback program is going to last? I am wanting the Photon which comes out next week and was wondering if it would still be in effect.
And to everybody out there, I know I could probably sell it on Craigslist or the MarketPlace here, but don't want to deal with selling it if Sprint will just hand me $150.00.

NO option to buy full price on a no commit plan for a new customer?

Is this a Sprint thing?
I just called two corporate stores and they said that a new customer can't buy the phone for full retail price without a 2 year contract.
In other words, you must sign a two years contract if you are a new customer.
Can anyone here confirm this?
Go here

Then goto the Samsung Epic 4G Touch order page and you can get it at full price.

Nope! Even if you buy at full price, no matter where you buy it, there will be a contract. Sorry guy.

EDIT: Answered above.
Not sure if that is the correct answer, there is an Sprint employee in the Evo 3d forum that said yes.

Thanks all for the replies. What is the ETF on this phone ? It might end up costing the same as full retail price.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I AM a Sprint employee. I deal with it every single day. Even if someone buys a phone off Ebay, some guy off the street, or buys it in the store, there is going to be a two year agreement. The ETF is going to be 350 for the first six months and starts to decrease from there. If you are going to get one, you may as well get the discounted price.

Im not saying that you are wrong, but this a an example of what customers have to deal with. One rep state one way, then the other rep.....

Funny thing is, when the OG EVO came out, i bought from craigslist and was able to activate it on a month to month plan as a new customer while i was not able to get the same if would buy it at the Sprint store. but i think i got lucky that time and that Sprint policy is really to have a 2 year agreement regardless of the amount you buy the phone at.
The questions is what is the ETF. it might come out the same if i buy it for $199 and pay an ETF when i want out. i never keep a phone more than a few months and i have zero carrier loyalty. Sprint is the only carrier that does not allow month to month contracts it seems.
hold on hold on ... lol
you are wanting to buy a phone at full price then activate as a new customer without a contract??? on month to month? dont know about that one... i totally misread your post and thought you were already a customer and thought this guy was really giving you bad advice to be a sprint employee but now that i reread your post his answer sounds about right... sorry dude
Actually...they are both right. There is a new thing called business freedom. Which is where if you open a new business account with a federal tax ID, you can get this new plan that is a no contract commitment deal. If you interested in more information PM me so we can further discuss this.
Just come tome from now on with all your Sprint needs
Yeah, but you have to have a business and it is more expensive every month since there is no contract. Unless you actually have a business with seasonal employees I really wouldn't recommend it. If you get a new Tax ID just for this, you are GOING to have a deposit. You could run a blended credit but that might only knock it down fifty bucks. Sprint may also want proof that it is a real business so they may need bank statements with the business name, so you have to have a few months worth of that. Would you really want to go through all that just to pay more every month anyway? The average consumer would do best just to sign the contract.

You might be able to find a friend who wants out of their contract and are near the end of it. Well, right now they can get out for free...
In all seriousness. I wouldn't mind helping someone out if I ever lost one of my members in my family plan. Charge them something like 30 dollars +10 dollar for smart phones and I wouldn't hold you to a 2 year contract if you brought your own phone to use.
That's actually a very good idea. If you pay full price you don't have to sign a contract if you put the phone on an existing line. Maybe you could find someone who wants to switch to your current provider from Sprint and you could just take over each other's lines.

Sprint launches early upgrade promo

In an industry where customer churn can be likened to the fearsome troll under the bridge, Sprint has launched a program designed to keep its favored subscribers around for another two years. While not everyone is eligible -- those who've upgraded less than eight months ago, corporate outfits and those in collections need not inquire -- the program lets customers buy their way out of their current commitment and become eligible for a new, subsidized handset. The promotion begins February 12th and is set to run through the 14th of April, where the amount you pay correlates to the time since your last upgrade. So if you're currently pining for the Epic 4G Touch or the iPhone 4S, just give your local Sprint store a call this Sunday. They just may be able to hook you up.

IMO opinion this is more of a contract buyout to get new user pricing than it is an early upgrade promo like the Sprint Premier Gold program was.
It makes 0 sense to pay $55 to buy out for early upgrade if you're like 1-4 months out.

Keep in mind though, that we live in a world where people will happily spend well in excess of $55 to "upgrade" from something like a IPhone 4 to a 4s. Sometimes, "sense" takes a back seat to a desire to be instantaneously satisfied... lol

I have to agree, people at my store will pay a lot to get their upgrade now to get the phone they want now. I think a lot of it comes from people who buy cheap phones and just can't take having them anymore and will do anything to get out of that phone.

This actually isn't a promotion. It's just a last resort offering by Retention as of right now. You pay on average $10/month remaining on your contract with an average maximum of 6 months to move your upgrade up. We've been doing it for months for customers in my stores, but it's never really been publicly advertised.

My wife is only 2 months away from an upgrade; if she waits, she still pays 36 dollars "activation fee", or, if she does it tomorrow, its the same 36 dollars, so, if you are a month or 2 away, it doesn't cost you a dime more to do it now..
yes, i am sure its to clean out the existing inventory before the "new" network is in full swing..
WOOT, 3000 POSTS!!
I work at a preferred dealer as well, just tell your customers to call customer care and see if they can do an early upgrade. If that doesn't work have them be transferred to retentions and say someone they know was able to buy out their remaining contract and get an early upgrade. That easy. I have my upgrade still, saving it for the GSIII because I'm not stupid like some people.

Ok I called Sprint customer care today inquiring about the upgrade. My girl's line is due for upgrade in October and I am tired of her complaining about her Evo3d restarting all the time. So I called to see if I can get that upgrade for an Iphone for her. I was told that the new promo is only for people who's upgrade is in April or earlier and are also having phone issues. I think I'm going to call a corporate store tomorrow. Any advice or am I wasting my time? The Engadget article said if you upgraded within the last 8 months your or not eligible. I didn't upgrade this line within the last 8 months.
To upgrade or not to upgrade....
I saw this on Friday and wandered into a Sprint store on Sunday. The fella at the desk told me this was all legit and that I would need to call customer service because he could not do anything from the store (he said to ask for the "retentions" department).
I've been suffering with a Hero for the last 18 months. Loved the phone when I first got it, but it didn't take long to realize that it was not powerful enough to keep me happy. My wife is on her third Moment because everything about that phone just doesn't seem to work. I was hoping to hold out for an LTE phone but it appears those won't be dropping until late summer, and I'm not sure if we can hold out that long.
On the Sprint website, I get a message that I am eligible for $150 off a new phone on April 1 (remnants of the Premiere Program). From what I read, I'll have to pay $36 to upgrade in April or I can pay $55 now.
So my question(s) to all you Sprint people out there, am I reading all this correctly? Will I still qualify for the $150 off the new phone? Am I absolutely crazy for not waiting for LTE? Should I take the SGS2E4GT (Galaxy S 2) or hold out for the Nexus?
Thanks for the input.

I would buy a used phone off Craig's list or something now and hold onto you upgrade for an LTE device. You can get an E4GT for around $300 and EVO 3D for much less or an Nexus 4G for even less then that.
That is what I would do because once the GN drops you know you will want it or whatever cool LTE phone comes out soon after that...
The way I read this is that they are just pro-rating your ETF (the way they all should do anyway).
In theory, it works like this:
A high end handset costs ~$600 but in exchange for signing a 2-year contract, the cell phone carrier will subsidize $400 of the cost and roll the cost of that "loan" into the cost of your monthly service. You get a new phone without as large an initial outlay of cash and they gain a steady source of income for at least the next 2 years.
In theory you should be able to bring your own phone and get service at a lower cost off-contract because you aren't paying off a subsidy but since the top 3 providers don't offer this, there is not really any benefit to not taking the subsidy. You are already paying the same monthly rate so other than not being locked into a service contract, you gain nothing financially from not taking the $400 subsidy.
Along with this, in theory, your ETF should drop by 1/24th every month as you are basically paying off the subsidy one month at a time over two years. Once again, it doesn't quite work that way. At least this is an attempt to let people pay off the remaining subsidy before signing a new contract and taking a new one.
I would prefer to just pay $600 for my phone and then pay $17 less per month (approx 1/24 of $400) with no contract but since the US market seems accustomed to cheaper subsidized handsets on contract I don't know it would ever take off much. The contracts, handset exclusives, and lack of porting options have made it so the carriers have little incentive to compete on price or plan options..but that's another topic for another day.
Well I got mine it was 40 bucks but.my Gf needs a new phone had so, iPhone 4s and she can have my day 2week old epic touch 4g
Update: I got my upgrade and the fee was added to my bill and my upgrade is now waiting. Pretty cool. I have another upgrade in August so I will se what they have then.

$30 upgrade fee

My contract is up on May 15th, and now Verizon is charging $30 bucks to upgrade!! WTF??? I'm looking to change to ATT (HTC ONE X) or prepaid as I am not going to give these fookers anymore money. I'm so tired of corporate greed. They say this because it is to "provide customers with the level of service and support they have come to expect." ???? Really? whenever I go into my local verizon store, they ask me about new phones and my newest roms. I'm so pissed right now at them.
As far as I can remember Verizon has always charged a 30 dollar fee..... they waived my last upgrade fee though because the lady messed up.

Just read an article that said this is a new fee and starts on April 22. Apparently, in addition to data limits, this is a new fact of life. Sad. Might be time to shop around again though.
If only they knew how right they are with the "provide customers with a level of service and support they have come to expect from Verizon"... Over the years big red has become so greedy, I actually do expect a level of fees and charges that make absolutely no sense. I think the $30 this time might be for the Vaseline... Lol.

I usually have pretty good luck when calling customer service, and emailing them, but all I keep hearing from them is "blah blah blah". I emailed the director of customer service and the East Coast Regional manager, both have yet to get back to me. They keep saying how everyone else does it, they are 6 dollars cheaper, they have smartphone workshops, and it helps them with serving the customer better. The only thing they are serving is lining their pockets! I WILL go to ATT and get the ONE X, if they keep this up! My company waives the activation fee, so I don't have to pay that either. Greedy Bastards!
Guys as a few of you know I work for Verizon in sales. The $30 fee being added to upgrades is new. The other fees that you are referring to. The 30 being waived for early upgrades it's a fee that is done in stores to cover cost. alot of stores don't do this fee.
Just for reference. Verizon it's the last of the big 4 carriers to implement this upgrade fee. I don't agree with it at all but changing carriers will only led to the same thing. It is like comparing a Apple to an apple wearing a orange costume.
Still it looks like this is going to bite big red in the ass. Sales will be affected. Verizon will feel the blow financially.

I never go to the stores to do anything. I deal with customer service exclusively because it is the only way I am ever able to get anything done. I doubt ill leave Verizon anytime soon. I still have unlimited data and I intend to keep it as long as I possibly can. I may pay out the ass but nobody else offers it that's worth a crap in my area. The customer service with Verizon isn't half bad anyway.

I have the unlimited data as well, but as most everyone knows, we "elite" customers get throttled (often!) because they offered to grandfather our plans and we took it. When I got my phone, music and netflix streamed without a hiccup, now because I'm not a "tiered" customer, I get throttled (and labeled as an "excessive use" customer).
The point; you either get it from one end or the other, either way they're going to stick it to their customers because we all want smartphones and they know they can plug us along the way for it. Atleast here, we can work together to screw them back!

No More Free Phone Upgrades: Verizon’s $30 Fee Starts April 22nd
On April 22nd, Verizon will begin charging a $30 upgrade fee when existing customers buy a new phone on a new contract. It's the sad end of the free upgrade era.
FYI: if you look on eBay you can find new phones for the same price as buying one on contract. I was looking at Galaxy Nexus phones a month ago and you can find the CDMA version easily for 250-300 or right now the Rezounds are going for 150-200.
Does it suck to pay $30 for an upgrade? Yeah it does but I probably wont shift to a new carrier because I'm on a loyalty plan, getting an employee discount AND have my unlimited data grandfathered. I'll deal with paying the $30 every two years.

One thing about the upgrade fee is that some of the other carriers are talking about not even letting people upgrade.

WTF...Sprint??? No Deals??

So, I'm not sure that I should be blaming Sprint or not on this one, but as far as I can see, someone has to be blamed. I am currently running with my good ol' GS1...Yes, the OG Galaxy S1 (Epic) on Sprint. I am all set to upgrade and have been waiting patiently for Black Friday.
SOOO... I have been checking the leaked ads as well as checking with stores, connections, forums, whatever....and everyone (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon) is giving away their GSIII phones on black friday through a bunch of different retailers (Sams, T-Mobile site, Wal-Mart, Radio Shack).....all except for Sprint!
Yes...I have seen it as low as $49 in Best Buy (Allegedly, after waiting in line for 5 hours), but why not Free??? I'm not trying to make a big deal out of it, but sh!t, Sprint....not for nothing, but I don't even have a good argument for you anymore.
I used to brag to my friends about the unlimited data that I had...at less of a cost than their 'Throttled' T-Mobile data, but my 'Full Speed' downloads are slower than their throttled speeds. I think should be doing everything they can to increase their customer load...since in the past 4 years, their service has gone to crap. I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years and right now I wish I didn't have other family members on the plan that were tied to contracts. They are the only thing keeping me with Sprint right now.
Ok...Off my Rant box..............
Anyone else have anything to say? Did I miss the invitation to the 'FREE' party? Should I not be *****ing about this? As far as I know, you all probably didn't get a free phone either, so I am sorry if I sound a little...*****y. I guess my question would be....Why stay with Sprint? (Maybe just looking for a little reassurance)
Sprints customer service ratings are pretty good. We have better cheaper plans. You could go get the free phone and pay more for less but you probably won't or you wouldn't still be on the og epic. Pay the 50 bucks and lose the entitlement so we can keep our data unlimited. Seems like a small price to pay.

Ya but $0.96 is a bigger steal. And only thing they really have to keep their customer base is a promise of awesome 4g ln the coming months. Question is, is that enuf for u to Stay? All while you pay for a premium data add on for 1x type speed. If tmo had the uncapped unltd data in june u better believe I'd be with them instead right now. I get where the op is comin from. Granted sprint may still come out with something nice for black Friday considering the value of this phone seems to be plummeting thanks to the note ii
My .2 cents
Update....Sams did put the GS3 on sale last night for $.96 with free activation. Good job.

we are looking to get 2 more S3's on black friday. because of our plans we must use a sprint corporate store.
has anyone got any details on their black friday deal? will it be whats in stock only? can we order it? (we don't mind waiting we just want the $50 price tag) ie how is it going to work on black friday? is there going to be like 10 and we have to be the first 10 in line?

U can get it for $50 on sprint.com on black Friday so I'd assume u could order it at the store. I guess if they wouldn't let u order it there u could do it online or by phone if your account allows it.

Hell for $49 why *****. You could have paid my price of $455 instead. I bought mine new on ebay. I still can upgrade next yr for a better phone. Because this one replace my evo design an did not have to sign a new contract.
Why would you think that a phone that's been out for 3 months should be free?

Entitlement, lol. $50 is a hell of a deal on the sgs3, even if some places are selling it for .96, I got mine free but would have gladly paid full price for it.

Well if he is liberal, he probably expected it to be a free Obama phone..

People.... always thinking they're entitled to something. Did we forget Sprint is decommissioning iden, creating a whole new network through network vision and adding lte all at the same time? Pay your $50 and quit crying. Trade in your phone and boom its $0. /thread

this is a capitalist environment so we literally are entitled to anything we can get our lawful fingers on
I tend to like to add some morals to that but morality and capitalism don't mix to well IE they take advantage of it and rape you.
I paid NOTHING for my 2 S3's - I made 2 Iphone 5 droolers pay for it for me hehe
EVERY CARRIER that your local Sam's Club carries will have the sg3 for .96 cents on black friday.. yes EVERY CARRIER! so if you local Sam's Club carries the sg3 for sprint then it will be .96 cents on black friday..

I sent an update reply. I did see that they had it for $.96. I'm not greedy or feel entitled. I was simply wondering why every other carrier had it for $.96. Why is that so out of line? Would anyone willingly pay $50 more for the EXACT same device just so they wouldn't have a feeling of entitlement or so that they could say that they weren't complaining?
well part of the problem is that we live in a very selfish society if we can't have something we get upset if anybody else can get it so for example if you paid 100 dollars you might be annoyed at anyone else getting it for 50 dollars so you would complain about their position or claim there entitled because they are potentially getting a better deal than or desiring a better dealg or if you would want to get that better deal you wouldn't be complaining that your part of the nature of human beings
you also see a little bit of if I can't have it neither should you mentality
our society is based around on getting the most you can at least you can and we massively overpay for cellular service in this country so we tend to look for the best deal we can get
this further create animosity when someone else manages to get a better deal than you did so we complain about it
Is normal and natural don't let it bother you
