EVO 3D price? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay I am not sure if I am a gold member or silver. On a $129 family plan and a premium customer. Say I wanted to switch to the 3D. How much would it cost since it's only been a year? $200, $270, or another price..? Thanks in advance.

You are only going to be a silver member with that plan, which means you will get $75 for upgrading at a year. Sprint would probably buy your Evo for $50 right now.
If you bought your Evo, or have been with Sprint long enough that you were gold before. Then you should be able to call them and get your upgrade re-instated. They also might give you $50 for agreeing to stay with Sprint.
And here is a real easy way to check without calling them. http://www.goodandevo.net/2011/05/how-to-check-htc-evo-upgrade-eligibility-via-text-message.html

I have done that text thing a few times. Due for my 1 year in August. I tried having my Sprint buddy explain it but he was somewhat busy. It's 75 instant savings and I think I'm silver member. Not at the 10 year mark yet. I just want to know the cost up front or should I wait. I'm looking for something with a better screen and dual core.

Evo is $150 on buyback right now. Call Customer Care to see if you qualify for a "Silver Tier Override". If so, you can upgrade now and buyback your Evo, making the 3D only $50.

$150? Where at? I have a 2 year upgrade available, I just want to wait for a better less phone that's less of a gimic...I don't wanna leave HTC phones because sense is the ultimate UI for syncing info but it looks as if I'm headed to a Samsung device in the future...

to be honest, I dont like the 3d screen at all.. the Evo 4g screen has a wider screen even though they are both 4.3" the Evo 4g has my props more then the 3d.. and i've played with a 3d for a day and I didnt care for the color.. the 3d tends to hurt the eyes a bit

Do you know how long the $150.00 buyback program is going to last? I am wanting the Photon which comes out next week and was wondering if it would still be in effect.
And to everybody out there, I know I could probably sell it on Craigslist or the MarketPlace here, but don't want to deal with selling it if Sprint will just hand me $150.00.

what kind of deals can be negeotiated for a new phone?

i want a evo 3d, and the sells rep told me that i would be eligible for $75 off the contract price in aug 2012. lol.
is there any room here for them to budge, i'd be ok with paying contract right now, but they said since i was already in a contract i couldn't get it for the contract price so my price that day was around $500 i think.
are there any angles to get this cheaper?
i have a evo 4g
the charge port is bad and is covered by warranty, so i get a free replacement.
they told me it would be a about 4 business days for a replacement, it has been 8 days and i haven't heard a thing.
also i just moved and at my new home and at work i get virtually no signal and i am missing calls, dropping calls and my battery is draining very quickly because of the lack of signal, in their defense the small city i live in has the best 3 g speed of anywhere i have been in the midwest. but still i cant hardly use my phone where i spend 95% of my time during the week.
all of the above are true and i dont want to scam anyone, but i would like to know if there is any way i can talk them into making me some awesome deal.
can any of this be used as an angle to get a 3d?
Bets bet would be to try to go through the buy back program, sell your evo for 150$, then I think you can get it for 100 or 50.
I still haven't heard back from the sprint store as of this morning. Apparently my shine has been there waiting me but no one called to inform.
Anyways, any negotiation tactics out there?

They'll give you their own arm if you sign up for a 20 year contract. :-D no upgrades. :-D 5 phones and only 250 minutes, so you have to go over every month. LOL!
This is the number to Account Services: 1-888-273-9460
They're the dept that can wheel and deal. You best bet is to claim ****ty signal and say what you've been reading online says the 3D gets better signal. Probably BS but who are they to argue with a customer?
If you've had the Evo since Aqugust you're most likely SOL on any kind of trade up. Your signal issue might be solved with an Airrave, a device that enhances Sprint signal. You'd need a landline-based internet service first but if you do the Airrave is the ****.
That Buyback idea is well worth looking into. With the Evo going down in price the 3D will be more affordable with a trade-in. If you think you can sell for more on Craigslist or something go for it, but the Buyback program lets you trade in then and there for instant money off that 3D.
Plus there's already temp root on the 3D so a full hack should be available anytime now.

Keep in mind it's entirely up to the person you talk to as far as what they charge for the device and if there's a monthly fee. The device normally goes for $100 with a $5 per phone line using it charge. If the account has been open more than 13 months/if you've never had a late payment or service suspension/if you don't have a spending limit on the account currently...there's a good chance the device will be free wih no monthly fee. Especially if you just moved into a ****ty service area. That's how I got mine free, I moved into ****ty service and my mother knows how to yell at them properly

Cheapest method to get an ET4G with $75 upgrade?

I only have $75 off from Sprint to upgrade, so what is the cheapest method into getting the ET4G? Many websites unfortunately only take account the upgrade price if you're 2 years in, but most don't give you an option if you're between 1 and 2 years between contracts.

Cheapest way is through Sprint. Their retail price is $499 for the phone at Sprint stores. That's quite a bit cheaper than through other resellers.
Depending on what your coming from, you may be able to sell your old phone on ebay or craigslist to recoup some of the cost.
The other option is to wait. I have no doubts that this phone, while impressive right now, will be outclassed in a few months. By the time you can cash in your full discounted upgrade, there will be something bigger and badder... or the E4GT will be much cheaper.
Keep in mind, you'll have to go another two years if you cash in that $75. Not worth it in my opinion... it's just a phone.
$75 is NOT worth re-upping your contract for 2 years. I went ahead and paid pull price for the phone and I will keep my full upgrade for next spring when the hopefully the LTE phones are out
Best Buy gave the phone for$399.99 and I also was only qualified for a $75 discount. That and the gave me $97 bucks for my old Epic thus I got this bad boy for about $300 and change.

What i did was early terminate for $80 and started a new contract and got the phone for $199 plus acctivation. If you already got the phone wih only a 75 discount have ur accout reversed and do the early termination thing
p.s. If u do the account reversal you will need an old sprint phone to temperarily put ur number back on or they will charge u a restocking fee of 35 dollars

I was thinking of early terminating too. I am 1 year into my contract so it would be $100 for the ETF. Start a new contract and get the phone for $100 at Wal-Mart plus tax and $36 activation fee. The only thing is I want to keep my number so I would have to port it over maybe a prepaid phone or Google voice and then port it back to Sprint?

I did this exactly and traded in an Evo which they gave me an 87 credit for. I know I could of got more but it was too easy this way, totally off set the ETA. Phone number change for me wasn't a problem as I give out my Google voice number. I asked the guy at the store if he would just give me the full upgrade price instead of doing this but he said no. It was easy enough.
I was in the same situation. Got one from sprint, did not use it and sent it back because I realize that I could get a brand new one from eBay for cheaper and not use my $75 upgrade and be eligible for the next s3.
Maybe I might wait until after October 11 and see if Samsung and Google will announce the new Galaxy Nexus for Sprint hopefully. If it does come to Sprint I may just ETF and port my number out to a cheap prepaid phone and open a new contract.
Whats your current phone now? I personally think its worth it if you can sell your current phone for a decent amount and use it towards the 4g touch on eBay.
The best way is the Best Buy method. I sold my Evo and a Zune HD straight to Best Buy for about $210...I ended up paying $14 for mine (I had a full upgrade though).
If you've got some other old electronics you never use, I suggest going that route, Best Buy pays out pretty well.
Also, they won't be announcing the Nexus S in October. It'll be the iPhone 5 and MAYBE switching to LTE. IF we get the Nexus S, it won't be til later on.
I sold my Epic on Facebook in 20 minutes for $150, then used the $75 discount. I put down another $75 and billed the rest to my account. Ill have a huge bill next month, but I'm OK with that. But that's really the cheapest route.

I had the same problem and I was willing to just buy the Epic Touch full price without renewing my contract BUT I decided it was worth a shot calling customer service to see what they could do for me.
I got:
$100 account credit
$75 renewal
$75+ phone buyback (I had a bunch of old phones)
Which left me at less than $249 out of pocket.
Then I transfered my OG Epic to my wife, and she ended up getting a brand new OG Epic because the Sprint store couldn't figure out how to swap things over to her correctly and I wasn't about to tell them how
I'm happy with it because we both have brand new phones and like I said before I was ready to just buy it full price... and I still have a full upgrade next spring...

I see, yeah the 11th is coming up pretty soon anyways. I've noticed that the epic 4g touch prices have dropped quit a bit since I bought mine on eBay. I believe the going rate now is close to $450-60 shipped, I paid $480 for mine. Hopefully I can see my Evo for a decent amount. If you opt out for the new Nexus the price might be a bit lower too for the epic 4g touch.

Sprint launches early upgrade promo

In an industry where customer churn can be likened to the fearsome troll under the bridge, Sprint has launched a program designed to keep its favored subscribers around for another two years. While not everyone is eligible -- those who've upgraded less than eight months ago, corporate outfits and those in collections need not inquire -- the program lets customers buy their way out of their current commitment and become eligible for a new, subsidized handset. The promotion begins February 12th and is set to run through the 14th of April, where the amount you pay correlates to the time since your last upgrade. So if you're currently pining for the Epic 4G Touch or the iPhone 4S, just give your local Sprint store a call this Sunday. They just may be able to hook you up.

IMO opinion this is more of a contract buyout to get new user pricing than it is an early upgrade promo like the Sprint Premier Gold program was.
It makes 0 sense to pay $55 to buy out for early upgrade if you're like 1-4 months out.

Keep in mind though, that we live in a world where people will happily spend well in excess of $55 to "upgrade" from something like a IPhone 4 to a 4s. Sometimes, "sense" takes a back seat to a desire to be instantaneously satisfied... lol

I have to agree, people at my store will pay a lot to get their upgrade now to get the phone they want now. I think a lot of it comes from people who buy cheap phones and just can't take having them anymore and will do anything to get out of that phone.

This actually isn't a promotion. It's just a last resort offering by Retention as of right now. You pay on average $10/month remaining on your contract with an average maximum of 6 months to move your upgrade up. We've been doing it for months for customers in my stores, but it's never really been publicly advertised.

My wife is only 2 months away from an upgrade; if she waits, she still pays 36 dollars "activation fee", or, if she does it tomorrow, its the same 36 dollars, so, if you are a month or 2 away, it doesn't cost you a dime more to do it now..
yes, i am sure its to clean out the existing inventory before the "new" network is in full swing..

I work at a preferred dealer as well, just tell your customers to call customer care and see if they can do an early upgrade. If that doesn't work have them be transferred to retentions and say someone they know was able to buy out their remaining contract and get an early upgrade. That easy. I have my upgrade still, saving it for the GSIII because I'm not stupid like some people.

i have an airave for that
Ok I called Sprint customer care today inquiring about the upgrade. My girl's line is due for upgrade in October and I am tired of her complaining about her Evo3d restarting all the time. So I called to see if I can get that upgrade for an Iphone for her. I was told that the new promo is only for people who's upgrade is in April or earlier and are also having phone issues. I think I'm going to call a corporate store tomorrow. Any advice or am I wasting my time? The Engadget article said if you upgraded within the last 8 months your or not eligible. I didn't upgrade this line within the last 8 months.
To upgrade or not to upgrade....
I saw this on Friday and wandered into a Sprint store on Sunday. The fella at the desk told me this was all legit and that I would need to call customer service because he could not do anything from the store (he said to ask for the "retentions" department).
I've been suffering with a Hero for the last 18 months. Loved the phone when I first got it, but it didn't take long to realize that it was not powerful enough to keep me happy. My wife is on her third Moment because everything about that phone just doesn't seem to work. I was hoping to hold out for an LTE phone but it appears those won't be dropping until late summer, and I'm not sure if we can hold out that long.
On the Sprint website, I get a message that I am eligible for $150 off a new phone on April 1 (remnants of the Premiere Program). From what I read, I'll have to pay $36 to upgrade in April or I can pay $55 now.
So my question(s) to all you Sprint people out there, am I reading all this correctly? Will I still qualify for the $150 off the new phone? Am I absolutely crazy for not waiting for LTE? Should I take the SGS2E4GT (Galaxy S 2) or hold out for the Nexus?
Thanks for the input.

I would buy a used phone off Craig's list or something now and hold onto you upgrade for an LTE device. You can get an E4GT for around $300 and EVO 3D for much less or an Nexus 4G for even less then that.
That is what I would do because once the GN drops you know you will want it or whatever cool LTE phone comes out soon after that...
The way I read this is that they are just pro-rating your ETF (the way they all should do anyway).
In theory, it works like this:
A high end handset costs ~$600 but in exchange for signing a 2-year contract, the cell phone carrier will subsidize $400 of the cost and roll the cost of that "loan" into the cost of your monthly service. You get a new phone without as large an initial outlay of cash and they gain a steady source of income for at least the next 2 years.
In theory you should be able to bring your own phone and get service at a lower cost off-contract because you aren't paying off a subsidy but since the top 3 providers don't offer this, there is not really any benefit to not taking the subsidy. You are already paying the same monthly rate so other than not being locked into a service contract, you gain nothing financially from not taking the $400 subsidy.
Along with this, in theory, your ETF should drop by 1/24th every month as you are basically paying off the subsidy one month at a time over two years. Once again, it doesn't quite work that way. At least this is an attempt to let people pay off the remaining subsidy before signing a new contract and taking a new one.
I would prefer to just pay $600 for my phone and then pay $17 less per month (approx 1/24 of $400) with no contract but since the US market seems accustomed to cheaper subsidized handsets on contract I don't know it would ever take off much. The contracts, handset exclusives, and lack of porting options have made it so the carriers have little incentive to compete on price or plan options..but that's another topic for another day.
Well I got mine it was 40 bucks but.my Gf needs a new phone had so, iPhone 4s and she can have my day 2week old epic touch 4g
Update: I got my upgrade and the fee was added to my bill and my upgrade is now waiting. Pretty cool. I have another upgrade in August so I will se what they have then.

ET4G Amazon :O

I really doubt this is thread worthy :O but I had to tell someone. Lol frustrated that both my girlfriend and I paid $200 for our Epics...
then today I convinced my aunt and uncle (with 2 daughters) to join sprint....
they got FOUR of our phones for $.04 :O
Why would Amazon be doing this? Is it just because the Nexus is coming out?
Well anyone who has friends thinking about Sprint looks like now is the time
Damn, I got my white e4gt for $99 a month ago. Well, eventual savings pale in comparison to the monthly rate. I do admit, it is a steal.
I wouldnt mind getting a nexus s for a penny, but I'm all out of upgrades. My guess is Amazon is dumping their Wimax inventory phones because sprint is moving to LTE.
I got mine for a penny back in November. Amazon randomly has sales where they sale Sprints 4G phones for a penny.
Not for upgrades, sadly. Just checked. New customers only. Makes me sad that people who haven't given Sprint a penny have all the best offers, while the loyal customers (been with Sprint since '99) are left in the dust.
I been with sprint like 10 years too. I got this phone for a penny. I closed my originl line and opened a new 1 and got it ^^ #WIN!

Upgrade fee is the same as an activation fee.
As for pricing on new lines, it usually is only third parties that offer better deals for new line vs upgrades, which makes sense because they get paid more from Sprint on a new line. Corporate does it sometimes, usually only on eol devices as a way to clearance them out. Like it or not, every carrier spends more money to attract subs than they do to keep the ones they already have.

I sincerely need to thank the OP here. I bought mine this past Thursday for $49.99, which considering that Sprint charges $199 with the 2 yr contract, thought it was a fantastic deal. I got my phone on the mail yesterday night and still have to activate it, but when I saw this thread today, I called Amazon and told them that I wanted to have a price match as I had purchased this thing less than 3 business days ago. Long story short, they agreed and I am getting $49.98 back...
I am one happy camper right now
Thanks OP!
Amazon has all of the Sprint WiMax devices for sale at 1-cent a piece, new customers or new lines only. If you ask me, it's because of A) They have an abundance of WiMax devices in stock and they know WiMax is going to be fazed out and don't want a surplus or B) Their Sprint sales have taken a slump. Plus, remember that a deal on a phone for a consumer may lead to increased accessories with with the purchase.

How do you guy keep up with the latest phones?

Ok so i'm realizing as i've been reading the threads, that many of us came from evo 3d, and photon, and nexus s. How are you guys able to get e4gt without your contracts being up? I know that some of those phones are less than a year old. and i'm pretty sure some of us will move on from e4gt to galaxy nexus when it comes out. Whats your trade secret? I can't really imagine, people cashing up $500 + every few months? even if you were to sell your old phone to off set the difference.
can you guys please tell me your secret? because i would love to get the latest phones, with minimum money spent.
I'm an avowed gadget freak and when Sprint still had the BTA (bill to account) option, I bought many phones at full price but since they disbanded that lovely feature I've had to resort to calling in and requesting an earlier upgrade (worked once and I used it for that pos EVO 3D). I also used to have 5 active lines, most of those I only activated to get a new phone lol so I paid probably 3 times as much with service, etc.
Some people have better luck than others and get an early upgrade often, I'm guessing it's a case of who you know over blind luck.
Sell the old one to put towards the new one

It is actually REALLY easy.
It is called Sprint Total Equipment Protection
As you can see below I have had a few phones, Only the Samsung Epic1 was actually upgraded. Everything else is thanks to TEP.
Before I would get broken phones and use TEP to get like new phones and sell them to buy a new phone, but it is even easier now, they offer similar phones to yours. So, In June I bought the Evo 3D, got bored with it by december. Wanted the ET4G, that wasn't available through TEP, so I got the Photon. Got bored of that, then swapped my Photon for the ET4G.
Seriously, that $8 a month is well worth it, AND if you brick your phone, you get a new one!
I sell my girlfriend for money.
now you know.
for me, I just make sure to keep my devices in pristine condition. That way I can sell mine on craigslist and just put in the difference against the retail price of new phone. so im usually out of B/T $200-$250 for new phone
Well, I used to get the Premier subsidy every year so I could get a brand new phone every summer for $200. That's how I've gotten my last several phones. Went from a Sanyo flip phone (before Premier) to a Palm Treo 650. Kept that for 2 years, got a HTC Mogul, that crapped out and TEP replaced it with a new or refurb HTC Touch Pro. This is around when the Premier perks started. Had that for maybe a half a year and then when my contract was up I got a launch day Palm Pre. Had that for a year and got a Premier upgrade to an HTC Evo. That just broke on me a few months ago but I had talked them into keeping my last Premier upgrade on my account so I was able to sell back my broken Evo for $90 and pay like $110 out of pocket for the E4GT.
Trying to keep it in good shape (probably will have to get the USB jig to reset the flash count) so I can sell it and buy the SGS3 whenever it shows up on Sprint in the Fall or whatever.
Its very simple....craigslist lol. I sold my evo 3d for $240 and found a guy selling white epics for 350. My girlfriend did the same thing

Wait...so if I ever sell my soul to the Devil and jump to the iPhone, it would cost me $100? Do you have to give them the phone you have now or can you flip it? Just say you lost the phone on the airplane lol...
I get money!!!!

They kill the ESN so it can't be reactivated on Sprint but there are lots of phones with bad ESNs still being sold on ebay and elsewhere.
One of the benefits of having a real job, I suppose.
Having a job with no debt. And the fact that I got a pristine et4g off craigslist for 275

I personally have a friend that does work with Sprint and he can get phones brand new at "New Contract" prices... Then I just sell my phone on craigslist!
That's like when the Galaxy Nexus comes out, it will most likely be $199-$249 and I can get $300 for my E4GT when I decide to sell it!
With this method, I actually come out on top!

"phone-feens" always find a way to get the newest ish, most of the time its flipping a old phone for a new one... with little cash difference. you be surprise how a head of normal people us xda members are in regard to the newest technology, for example I sold my g2x for $200 and got a epic touch for $260.... $60 difference. But the point is some1 though the the g2x was worth $200, while in the xda world, thats old technology... I switch phones at least 3-4 times a year... I love playing with the new ish! I think we all do! If I don't root my phone then I root my girl, but i'm rooting something, lol

You do know three claims in 12 months will get your insurance terminated, correct?
