WTF...Sprint??? No Deals?? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

So, I'm not sure that I should be blaming Sprint or not on this one, but as far as I can see, someone has to be blamed. I am currently running with my good ol' GS1...Yes, the OG Galaxy S1 (Epic) on Sprint. I am all set to upgrade and have been waiting patiently for Black Friday.
SOOO... I have been checking the leaked ads as well as checking with stores, connections, forums, whatever....and everyone (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon) is giving away their GSIII phones on black friday through a bunch of different retailers (Sams, T-Mobile site, Wal-Mart, Radio Shack).....all except for Sprint!
Yes...I have seen it as low as $49 in Best Buy (Allegedly, after waiting in line for 5 hours), but why not Free??? I'm not trying to make a big deal out of it, but sh!t, Sprint....not for nothing, but I don't even have a good argument for you anymore.
I used to brag to my friends about the unlimited data that I had...at less of a cost than their 'Throttled' T-Mobile data, but my 'Full Speed' downloads are slower than their throttled speeds. I think should be doing everything they can to increase their customer load...since in the past 4 years, their service has gone to crap. I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years and right now I wish I didn't have other family members on the plan that were tied to contracts. They are the only thing keeping me with Sprint right now.
Ok...Off my Rant box..............
Anyone else have anything to say? Did I miss the invitation to the 'FREE' party? Should I not be *****ing about this? As far as I know, you all probably didn't get a free phone either, so I am sorry if I sound a little...*****y. I guess my question would be....Why stay with Sprint? (Maybe just looking for a little reassurance)

Sprints customer service ratings are pretty good. We have better cheaper plans. You could go get the free phone and pay more for less but you probably won't or you wouldn't still be on the og epic. Pay the 50 bucks and lose the entitlement so we can keep our data unlimited. Seems like a small price to pay.

Ya but $0.96 is a bigger steal. And only thing they really have to keep their customer base is a promise of awesome 4g ln the coming months. Question is, is that enuf for u to Stay? All while you pay for a premium data add on for 1x type speed. If tmo had the uncapped unltd data in june u better believe I'd be with them instead right now. I get where the op is comin from. Granted sprint may still come out with something nice for black Friday considering the value of this phone seems to be plummeting thanks to the note ii
My .2 cents

Update....Sams did put the GS3 on sale last night for $.96 with free activation. Good job.

we are looking to get 2 more S3's on black friday. because of our plans we must use a sprint corporate store.
has anyone got any details on their black friday deal? will it be whats in stock only? can we order it? (we don't mind waiting we just want the $50 price tag) ie how is it going to work on black friday? is there going to be like 10 and we have to be the first 10 in line?

U can get it for $50 on sprint.com on black Friday so I'd assume u could order it at the store. I guess if they wouldn't let u order it there u could do it online or by phone if your account allows it.

Hell for $49 why *****. You could have paid my price of $455 instead. I bought mine new on ebay. I still can upgrade next yr for a better phone. Because this one replace my evo design an did not have to sign a new contract.

Why would you think that a phone that's been out for 3 months should be free?

this is a capitalist environment so we literally are entitled to anything we can get our lawful fingers on
I tend to like to add some morals to that but morality and capitalism don't mix to well IE they take advantage of it and rape you.
I paid NOTHING for my 2 S3's - I made 2 Iphone 5 droolers pay for it for me hehe

EVERY CARRIER that your local Sam's Club carries will have the sg3 for .96 cents on black friday.. yes EVERY CARRIER! so if you local Sam's Club carries the sg3 for sprint then it will be .96 cents on black friday..

I sent an update reply. I did see that they had it for $.96. I'm not greedy or feel entitled. I was simply wondering why every other carrier had it for $.96. Why is that so out of line? Would anyone willingly pay $50 more for the EXACT same device just so they wouldn't have a feeling of entitlement or so that they could say that they weren't complaining?

well part of the problem is that we live in a very selfish society if we can't have something we get upset if anybody else can get it so for example if you paid 100 dollars you might be annoyed at anyone else getting it for 50 dollars so you would complain about their position or claim there entitled because they are potentially getting a better deal than or desiring a better dealg or if you would want to get that better deal you wouldn't be complaining that your part of the nature of human beings
you also see a little bit of if I can't have it neither should you mentality
our society is based around on getting the most you can at least you can and we massively overpay for cellular service in this country so we tend to look for the best deal we can get
this further create animosity when someone else manages to get a better deal than you did so we complain about it
Is normal and natural don't let it bother you

But it's not fair. I don't even buy apple stuff and they're [inadvertently] ruining everything
Apple is a menace to the tech world.
What I never understood is how carriers don't make a profit until the 11 month mark. Take two Epic Touches at $499 a pop, Sprint eats $300 of the cost if they offer it at $199. Then factor in the cost of a data plan with TEP and the data charge at around $175 for two phones. That equals $1925 in 11 months, minus the $600 Sprint ate on the devices equals $1325. So how are they losing any money? Unless my math is wrong they're making profits only a few months in to the contract based on the plan price alone. Some one explain this because I don't rightly get it.

Sure, it looks like a profit on the phone, and you can argue that. However the company will not consider it a profit until all other costs are covered. Figure it from a business owner standpoint. You have the cost of your store overhead that sold it, the employees hourly pay and commission from the sale, etc.. on a larger scale you have all the other costs you can imagine. Offices, higher ups wages, network maintenance, the list goes on. The "profit" can only be considered a true profit after a profit/loss analysis on a bigger scale. Many preferred retailers use the profit loss analysis approach to their stores when figuring how to pay employees. You have to determine how much it costs to run the business, and how much money you bring in. The difference is your profit or loss. That's why it takes so long to make a profit.
At the same time Didn't Sprint also say that another part of their loss for this past quarter was part of Network Vision as well? It's not just the iPhone for them right now considering they are building out a brand new LTE network.
So are people really saying that when phones are sold to us at a subsidized rate, that carriers actually spent more than the subsidized rate to acquire them initially & HOPE to make up or exceed the difference in the service plan?
I highly doubt it (though I could be wrong). Even when selling the phone at a subsidized rate there is always some type of markup over the initial investment, even if marginal (again I could be wrong)
How much do you think Sprint actually pays per Epic Touch?
I read that Apples subsidized rate was something like 40 or 60% more than other high end phones.
Hahaha apple they wont last long

i guess its kinda like gas... the business can only mark it up so much/state taxes and competitors
but honestly if sprint bought $630 million dollars (if im reading right) on iphones... and didnt get a "bulk" deal from apple (or any manufacturer for that matter) its their own fault....
im not gonna start a business and pay retail on 1000s of products to sell them cheaper in hope that the customer becomes a "regular"
sprint can kiss my ass there is NO way a business would make it in todays economic state if they play the foolish "hope" card
and if all carriers REALLLLLLLLY pay retail for **** plastic devices over seas then looks like i know what im gonna be investing in....
my opinion leave it at that if im wrong im wrong but seriously.... no fortune 500 company (investors/CEO's/ANYONE) would be so careless
its in my opinion its all a lie or atleast "stretched" truths
"I worked at T-Mobile for 5 years. I was the go to guy for Android phones and training. That passion didn't stop even after my departure from the company. I currently moved up from my MyTouch 3G to a Samsung Vibrant. A lot has changed in a very short time. I look forward to all the latest and greatest every time I wake up. "
no offense to the writer but you went from a mytouch 3g to a samsung galaxy s vibrant??!?!?!?!?!?!? lol they BOTH came out last year for god sakes
Can they say the same thing about Android? I am certain there are supporting numbers that account for loss for every device on the market. With so many makes and models of Android available I can imagine that we cost the carriers just as much if not more than the iPhone does. The difference is they aren’t linked to one specific device. Even though the numbers point towards iPhone as the devil, the consumers and the manufacturers are more to blame
Its the discount structure as a whole...

Any monthly subscription service is the same way. You get people in the door (so to speak) with a loss leader, and then make all your money on the OTHER things the customer buys.
Even if you paid $500 for your ET, Sprint probably wouldn't make a profit straight out on it. Say it cost them $450 to purchase it from Samsung. It also cost something to get it shipped to the store. They have rent and utilities to pay each month. They have a manager and a salesguy to pay. By the time you shell out your $500, they MIGHT be breaking even.
But then you buy a screen protector for $25 and a carrying case for $30. Those two items probably cost them a combined $10. NOW you've made them a profit on the transaction.

yeah i got it but seriously WTF lol
i mean how does wirefly/letstalk.com get their phones and sell them cheap... do they buy from sprint? or from the manufacturer? ( i know they have their own ETF if you cancel in before a certain period) but my god i wouldnt put my business in customers hand who dont even get a REAL credit check done
sprint and tmobile are the easiest carriers to get into with horrible/no credit and not pay a HIGH deposit or NONE at all... i mean seriously lets give someone with poor credit a contractual obligation for 2 years with hope that they dont just bail and leave us with the bill (like they have done already) and cry about our profit margins and increase the prices/change policies on our current customers to make up the difference.... horrible business ethics... and that is coming from a person that dropped out of college.... a CEO cant figure this out?
or the investors who put their money into a ticking time bomb? i give zero ****s to sprint and there profit margins.... for all i care they can merge with big red or go bankrupt making a deal with apple to buy 30-35 million iphones in the next 4 years was a bad move.... and if they couldnt see that from AT&T after how many years of struggling with the iphone... then they are as naive as Lance Ito (the judge for OJ simpsons murder case)

higher termination fees, no multiple purchases of world phones on accounts with spending limits, no more sprint premier... you're right, it ISNT fair to those of us who have been customers for years... ONE of the many reasons i hate apple.

i work at a preferred retailer, and i have no idea what the epic touch cost. i CAN tell you though, that the HTC Evo 4G cost my store $375 per phone, with an MSRP of $449.99. we buy ours from a vendor named Brightpoint. i have no idea what brightpoints investment is on these devices, but i believe they are owned by sprint, so it IS possible that they are taking a hit from the manufacturer to me, hoping i sell them. i REALLY hope we arent WAGERING with my employer's future here...

yes, it really is close to retail. the iPhone 4S 16 GB costs my store $645 from our vendor... the MSRP is $650... either apple or brightpoint are bending us over here. in fact, its so bad, that the managers at my store wont sell iphones out of store inventory to upgrades, only to new lines. our franchise gets more commission from sprint for new lines, thus making it more "worth it". i think this is a TERRIBLE idea, you should never treat new customers better than current ones (or am i just too old fashioned? )

loss leaders make more sense than gambling on the prospect of future business. i think this is probably what is happening. ill give you a hint though. my store's cost for a case and screen protector? >$10
and since sprint REQUIRES we go through a certain accessory vendor, i am led to believe they get kick backs from the vendor (or what would it matter?)
as for the 11 month thing with tmobile, i dont know how sprints works, but i have an idea. when a customer cancels their line from sprint within the first 181 days, our commission is charged back (to the franchise, and then in turn to the salesperson). if its beyond that, franchise gets to keep the commission. if sprint is still losing money at this point, why arent they pulling the commission back? idk, i dont run a bazillion dollar (legit amount) corporation.
thats just my 47 cents.

Interview with Sprint on Friday - a few questions for any Sprint employees

Hello. I have an interview with Sprint on Friday for a job as a Retail Consultant. I figured i would be great for the job because I have a background in sales, a big fan of Sprint and an even bigger fan of cell phones. I am very excited for the job opportunity. Was just wondering first if there was any advice any current or previous employees could give me on getting hired or do's or dont's or w/e (or any other advice regarding employment by Sprint). Second not to get ahead of my self but was also just wondering what benefits or discounts (ie free lines or early upgrades) I would receive with the job. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
2) $29.99 Free & Clear Plan, 3000 minutes, Unlimited Text, and Data, but no subsidized devices. However, Sprint Rewards Me Plus allows you to buy a new phone every 6 months for the discounted price off-contract.

Good luck. I wish I could give you a reference but everyone I know at Sprint works at the corporate office and not in retail. So, the only time you would see them is when you read the name of the person who signs you checks.
But seriously, everytime you look up something on the computer you can thank my Mom. She designed the storage systems.

I have been thinking about my skills and I that if I'm in sales then I have to love what I sell. Well I love cell phones so I think that would be cake for me since I can talk non stop about them. Question is though how viable of the career is this for someone in their mid twenties, have a three year old son, on his own... Etc... Basically is a job at the sprint store a viable option for a career for me? Or is it more of a high school thing?

I worked at sprint for almost 3 years, I now work at Chase, but you should be happy with the position as long as you dont mind retail hours and holidays, and dealing with the most demanding (and arrogant) customers in retail. Lol

I am a father of 3 and the does not work and I make enough to pay our bills in california of all places , so I would have to say it is a viable career, remember that if you do get hired this is corporate and they take care of us better than you average commission based 3rd party retailer benifits 401k stock investment and yes a free personal line for yourself + 30 advantage lines for freinds and fam.
Pretty Viable, but in sales it is about your own skill and dedication that makes it that way.
I'm not surewhat the true differences between corporate and preferred are as I seemingly get what all the corporate wigs get and more at my indirect store. Except for the advantage plus plan lol but truthfully I don't believe I would use it.

Edit: as for advice, if your hired as a tech, make sure to pitch ready now as hard as sales...it doesn't as matter as much for techs but still impresses the company. And csat is verrry important
No they didn't you can still upgrade every six months through Sprint rewards me plus. But they only have select phones. I just ordered a phone last week.

It would be great if we could get better roaming rates in Japan, but I don't think it works that way, does it? I don't think T-Mobile users in the USA get cheaper roaming in Germany.

They negotiating to get a 2/3 stake in Sprint... to get access to Clearwires spectrum that should be global in a few years...
If this helps improve their network, I'm all for it.

This has some potentials.
2/3 owning state in Sprint would give control to them.
It would give Sprint a pretty healthy infusion of cash.
It gives Softbank access to more spectrum.
It gives Softbank the roaming agreements in the USA that it wanted.
It gives Softbank access to more phone systems they may want and possibly in reverse to Sprint.
It'll drive Sprint's stock price up. Short term anyway.
It has the potential to make Softbank/Sprint and everything else they own one of the largest global cell providers.
More than likely Sprint will continue to be treated independently in the USA under the guiding hand of them. Until they figure out what they want, I suspect pricing, unl data, etc won't change for awhile. After 2 years, anyone's guess tho.
Makes me sad because the possibility of Google buying Sprint goes down further

TMo and Sprint are definitely seeing gains from Verizon's apathy toward its customers. This Network Vision could really change the game.
We may see a lot of new devices come out too
i knew my "$10 premium data fee" on 4 lines was being used for something!!! it darn sure hasn't been used for getting me "premium data" since I started paying it over 2 1/2 yrs ago!!
"By raising some new equity directly, Sprint would be able to shore up its balance sheet and potentially fund other deals such as a buyout of Clearwire in which it already holds roughly 48 percent."

Give it up already. Same post in a few different threads now? C'mon man.
We get it...you hate Sprint and everything about them. Obviously that statement pertains to the cash they'd receive in selling a majority stake in their company.
I wouldn't fathom some of that money we've all been paying has gone towards the biggest network upgrade any cell provider has ever gone through...upgrading every single of their 30,000+ towers? No, it couldn't be something like that.

and your last comment makes no sense!!!!
"Sprint, whose market capitalization was $15.12 billion at Wednesday's market close, is the third-largest U.S. carrier, with more than 56 million users at the end of June, even after losing customers for years.'
Now, how do you lose customers for years and have market capitalization GO UP????????????????? over the last few years?...you charge them ridiculous meaningless fees..and reduce their discounts!!!!thats how!!

Sprint made a "Material Change"

Just in case any of you want to get out of your Sprint contract heres how!
On page 2/7 on your Sprint Bill it will say: Tax & Surcharge Base Changes. Effective 4/1/13, Sprint will be changing tax systems for charges such as insurance & premium content. This update may cause an increase of taxes and/or surcharges on your bill for these products. For details of taxes & surcharges, visit sprint.com/taxesandfees. This is how you get out of it because it is whats called a "Material Change" meaning it will cost you more! You have to call or chat with Sprint before the end of this month (April) or you will not be able to do it. I'm leaving because I have paid full price for half the service of 4G and LTE customers for far too long.
They may tell you its not a change but it is!
Did this work for you?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
Hoss, a Material Change does not necessarily mean high costs... A material change just means a large enough change in the legalese of the contract to warrant an opportunity for the consumer to get out... Rather than being strong armed into the new terms with no chance for a way out without exorbitant ETFs.

Good to know
They're only letting people out if their bill actually goes up because it only applies to "premium" content, and so far everyone's bill has actually gone down a few cents.

So far I've only seen 2 or 3 ppl successfully weasel out on this one. There's not much wiggle room on this one since it only affects premium content and it appears the surcharges actually dropped a fraction of a percent instead of increasing. However if for some reason your bill went up by 1cent you can get out. The material change clause is only for materially adverse changes, ie effects you negatively.

I don't pay my bill personally, so I have no idea if mine actually went up. Question being. Can my Note II be sold and activated by someone else? I got a cease and desist letter when I was forcing roam on my last phone. I assumed they'd just cancel my contract and I'd get to keep my device.
Finally who is everyone changing to? Verizon is a minimum $100 with $60 of that being 2GB of data, which is paltry. I don't so much care about the money I'd like better service, but 2GB of data isn't likely enough.

Stopped at the local Sprint store and they knew nothing. I called customer service and they told me you can't get out of the contract for surcharge or tax changes. Not sure I believe it or not.
I was just looking at Ting today (Ting.com) and thinking to myself - man this would be a good deal for someone who's currently with sprint and was out of their contract. I then realized I'd owe Sprint an ETF of $350 for my Note 2 which killed my dreams. Also I want to get my wife an S4 this month.... not sure if I want to go subsidized for $250 and go another 2 years or if I'd like to try to get out of the contract this way and buy it outright for the likely $600+ that it would be from amazon or the likes.

Never believe the first level customer service person. You have to go above their head. Also, the sprint store knows nothing unless they get it in some technical bulletin (in which case you're lucky if they actually read it and aren't a 17-yr-old-dropout)

Priced Verizon today. About $9 more per month for me and my girl. Yes I know they cap the data, but it's there when you need it. Spend most of my time on wifi, so data not a deal breaker for me.

Prolly worth mentioning Ting uses Sprint's network. I would also disect their plans and compare to your usage. It's hardly a good deal at all for anyone that uses their phone.

Making that assumption about Sprint stores is absurd. Most of my team is in their 30's and have a good idea of whats going on. When they don't they find the answer.

[Q] Note 4 Pre Order Question *Please advise*(BB)

I pre-ordered the device via BB only to find out that several stores in my area only received a handful of stock ( less than 8 within a 90 mile radius .) So, I am trying to figure out if this is a nationwide thing? Whats the advantage of pre-ordering when you can go to sprint on launch day and pick one up? I called BB mobile number and they told me that they were waiting on the manufacturer. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or is this just an isolated issue for my area?
My store had 2... TWO im so pissed i even was going to buy it at sprint but they said the double buyback credit was over ...
Yeah same here in east Tennessee, pre ordered last month to only go in bright and early today and be told they don't have mine in, that I didn't pre order as early as some (also on my date of pre order the lady that helped me said "we will have enough that if you change your mind about the color you want you can change it that day" well she was wrong, and they told me to keep calling back and that they may get a shipment TONIGHT. It really blows to be let down by a terrible product release on the release date. I so happened to eyeball the cage with the phones in them and they had only around 15 note 4's, needless to say I will never pre order with them again and plus the misinformation given to me they should be held accountable due to the lack of training they give staff (that or the staff was trying to get rid of me).

YOu guys are absolutely right, I asked a manager about the issue and they blamed it on the manufacturer saying that samsung didnt deliver enough of them. Whats the point of pre-ordering if I can go to the sprint store on launch day and walk out with a phone? Sprint stores in my area are still offering the (up to 200 trade in) but not the samsung guarantee 200 with the trade in, of a phone worth atleast 10 dollars. YOU SUCK BEST BUY!
I just got off the phone with my best buy and the guy told me they got 10 in only 5 for att and 5 for Sprint.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA Free mobile app
i just called mine and they where to busy to talk or give me a idea if they had any. i left my number for the callback
I called mine, and they said they had a lot of ATT models, and I was the 3rd person from Sprint to preorder.... This guy told me that they only got 2 sprint phones. and I'd have to wait on next shipment.... Best buy is garbage. It wasn't Samsung, its Best Buy, because if sprint has a surplus and has Pre-Orders AND walk-ins, there is a gap here. They better honor the deal considering it's their fault they don't have my phone ready. I plan on going in and paying 100 + taxes give or take.
Man, this sucks that you guys are having all this trouble.
The whole double buyback thing is a farce anyway, especially if you're dealing with a relatively new device. No way would I have traded in my LG G3 for $200. I'll sell it on eBay and get at least $350 - $400 for it. This is why I normally just go with the carrier stores. Sure, their promotions aren't always great, but I paid $79 less than Best Buy would have charged me ($720 vs. $799) and I had the phone in my hands yesterday, delivered right to my door. To boot, I'll make almost double what Best Buy would have given me for my old phone. All that combined is totally worth foregoing the promotions in my book.
Regardless, I hope you guys get your phones soon That's total BS. What's the point in pre-ordering if you can't get the product on release day? Isn't that the reason pre-orders exist in the first place?
My sprint store told me the 200 buy back ended

Im actually trading in a note 2 i think its worth 10 bucks
I am quick to let my S3 go. lol, its ultra outdated. I just find it so crazy that best buy can't ever get it right come pre-orders. I think if they reserved the money aside they can come with the phones... They don't delay in taking payment, they shouldn't delay in giving the product. Now if I could go to them and say I want a pre-order and we both take our times in delivering money and product, then sure take as much time as need be.
yeah i just talked to them and they said no ETA on next shipment and mine did not come
I called my BB cause they are 45 min away. He said they had my phone set aside for me and it would be there waiting.
I believe that whole being clueless on when next shipments and things coming in, is utter crap. I've worked in retail, and for them not to know not only would be unprofessional its completely incompetent of the employees. I believe that is just what they are trained to say. Ehh, what do we do though. Might as well sit it out n wait. I think if people are just better informed things wouldn't be so bad. Don't give the "I don't know" line as a business.
