Bootloader corrupt while ENG S-off -Pls Help me - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
i know there are other threads like this. But i could´t find the right answer for me.
I just wanted to flash a custom rom.
I downgraded my dhd to 1.32. Then I used visonary to get root and did the radio s-off with the easy tool.
But when i tryed to do the ENG S-OFF, easy s-off always gives me the message "Bootloader corrupt, DO NOT REBOOT".
I guess, this is to hot for me now. What can I do to NOT brick my Phone and get my good old stock rom back??
I really look forward to your answers
EDIT: Ok.. After the first excitement I found a helpful post. Can i install a stock RUU to recuse my Phone or will it restart before it and my phone is trash?

Please use pre existing threads when posting.

[Q] confused with s-on/off....

So I will be unrooting my phone tonight so I can take it to sprint tomorrow. Before I do the unroot can someome please clear some confusion up for me? Ok so I rooted with 3.21 the other day. I have read and watched the video by djr3z regarding the unroot in 2 steps. I know he says you need to use the s-on tool only if you used UR forever... which i did not use. As I read on further, people were saying sometimes the boot loader says s-off even though it is not off which mine is s-off. So I noticed that guide was posted on the 12th prior to 3.21 being released so I'm not sure if anything changed. So my sort but sweet question is do I need to apply the s-on zip prior to actually unrooting? Sorry for so much crap but i have been searching and can't get a precise answer..Anyways anyone who can clear this up for me would be the man or woman! As always THANKS!
Maybe I should have put this in the general section.. oops.

Flash the s-on file. It might still say s-off on your boot screen, but after you flash the rom it should then say s-on. So in short, yes, use the s-on file.

Sorry man I had a brain fart and accidentally posted it here. Once I realized it was already too late. I'll pay more attention next time!
I'm afraid you might be still slightly confused. the S-off you're seeing is more likely part of the ENG Bootloader instead of the same as the unrevoked s-off
both do the same thing, but the eng bootloader needs to be replaced for the s-on to re-appear.
That's initially what I was thinking too since I installed Unrevoked 3.21 NOT Unrevoked forever. Installing the s-on just for ****s and giggles wouldn't hurt anything right? I just don't want to unroot and then realize it still has s-off, then have to re root and start over. Any thoughts?
no, it shouldnt hurt anything. Just might not solve your problem if its the bootloader that is s-off

[Q] having trouble with ENG S-OFF

Im using the easy radio tool to set the eng s-off but everytime i try to run it it fails and says it cant find the file, and yes my phone is rooted and running coredroid 4.6, just trying to flash radio, can anyone point me in the right direction

easy radio tool is for radio s-off.. not eng s-off
for eng s-off use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403 also from jkoljo
if you have any problem using that, ask him in that thread. he reply quite fast.
thanks . ... .. . . .. ... . .. .
s-off tool not working
Hey I may be having a similar problem but I am such a newb to the forum, it won't let me ask in this in the thread that I would like to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403&page=55
Anyway, I have permrooted but when I try to run either the eng tool or the s-off tool I get a "the application failed to initialize properly"
I obviously have reverted down to a 1.32 boot loader from a 1.8x. Everything has work well up until this point.
My only thought is maybe cause I trying the executable tool on an xp computer but I havn't found anyone with the same problems....
thoughts?

[Q] ENG HBOOT: flash it after gfree S-OFF?

Hi,
This thread didn't answer the question, so i still need to ask it
My Desire-Z is fully S-OFF (gfree method), rooted all that stuff, but the HBOOT is SHIP, not ENG. It runs Virtuous. As i'm playing with Radios, i would like to have the ENG HBOOT (it's said that the radio files need to be flashed through ENG HBOOT, i guess it's true, anyone?).
Anyway so what i need to know is how to put the ENG HBOOT on my Desire-Z which is already S-OFF and rooted?
The wiki gives a method to do eveything at once, but i do not need all the other stuff (gfree, recovery...)
Thanks guys!
i have replied to your original thread .. please dont post questions in rom development thread
Here read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809 I don't want to be rude but use the search feature before you start a new thread.
Hispeedworm: which one do you speak about? The one i mention in my first post does NOT answers my problem, as i wrote. You may be speaking about something else, but which thread? Thanks anyway.
Dear Richard, how do you think i found the thread i mentionned at the beginning of the post? By divine light? Why is there a kind of posters that always think people don't search? Now for the link you mentionned, i'm a subscriber since the first post, but could you tell my where i can find there the way to install ENG HBOOT, which is my question here? I couldn't find it even by searching the thread many times. Thank you.
As for asking that in Android Dev, my bad, i did something wrong, sorry. A modo fixed it, thanks
you do not need engineering hboot in order to flash radios. you DO need engineering hboot to flash them via fastboot, but if you grab the PC10IMG.zip version (of anything, not just radios) you can flash them without eng-hboot.
if you'd like to install eng hboot anyway, feel free. there are instructions on the wiki.
here is the hboot .img you need: HTC Desire Z: vision.hboot-0.84.2000.zip (md5sum 2CE1BDD5E4C1119CCFCECB938710D742)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Restoring_Stock_Hboot
Follow link above, and scroll up until you find step 8 (Installing eng hboot), proceed from there until the reboot command.
Thank you pmcqueen for answering to my main concern. I know i don't need ENG HBOOT for radios, the zip files do the trick through bootloader when rooted, and that's the way i did it already many times. But i like the fastboot method for some tricks, that's why i would like to install ENG HBOOT.
So i will take a look at what you linked, though i already saw the wiki instructions, but installing the ENG HBOOT seemed to be a whole with other stuff i didn't want. I'll try as you suggest and give my feedback here.
One question though: is that dangerous for me since i'm already S-OFF, rooted, SuperCID, debug USB on...?

[Q] [SOLVED] Final question before rooting my DZ

Hi,
I've got my DZ a couple of days ago. It's a secondhand DZ. Previously i've used HTC Touch, Touch Dual, TP2, so this is my first Android experience. I did lots of ROM playing on previous winmo phones, but after reading for these couple of days of Android modding, i learn that flashing another Android ROM is not so simple as winmo ROM.
This is my DZ info:
Android version 2.2.1
Baseband version 12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2
Kernel version 2.6.32.21-g6e170e7
Build number 1.82.707.1 CL317545 release-keys
Software number 1.82.707.1
VISION PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT - 0.85.0009
MICROP - 0425
RADIO - 26.04.02.17_M2
eMMC - boot
Dec 13 2010
I've check with root checker and Titanium Backup, it says NO root access.
I've learned that with 1.82, i will have to downgrade first to 1.34.
In the steps for downgrading, i found that i will have to flash signed PC10IMG. But i also found in the sticky thread there's a warning, not to flash signed PC10IMG if i have S-OFF. So before i can downgrade, i have to get the S-ON.
I've read in a thread :
If for some reason (sending phone for warranty or repair, etc) you want to go back to S-ON:
- If you got S-OFF by flashing an Engineering hBoot, download the official HTC RUU for your phone version and flash the stock firmware back again. S-ON will be restored. This forum contains many threads with official RUUs.
- If you got S-OFF with gfree, it saved a backup copy to your SD card called "part7backup-xxxxxxxxxx.bin". It can be flashed back from a terminal emulator or from an ADB shell:
"dd if=/wherever/your/part7backup-xxxxxxx.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7
The problem is, i got a secondhand unit without microSD card. How can I get S-ON? I don't know how (what method) my DZ got S-OFF at the first place.
Any help is much appreciated.

You are already S-OFF? I'd find it strange that you'd be S-OFF and not be rooted.
install rom manager and check if there has been a recovery already flashed. Might answer your question
Why do you want s-on? S-off is a good thing
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA Premium App
You can check if you got S-OFF or S-ON
by entering bootloader
Power off your phone, then, hold the volume down key and the power key.
You might need to disable fastboot

I've already installed Rom manager and there's no clockwork recvery installed.
I want to flash custom rom. I need a root to do that. To get a root, i need to downgrade. To downgrade, i need to flash signed pc10img. And there's a warning here that said DONT flash pc10img with S-OFF. That's the problem.

I already did that. Bootloader says VISION PVT SHIP S-OFF. So that means i definitely have S-OFF.
I've learned some more from the post here and there. I think i figured out what happen with my DZ. I think the previous owner rooted and S-OFF the phone in the old firmware 1.34 then got an OTA update to 1.84. That update destroyed the root but somehow still S-OFF.
If I follow the direction in this thread, i assume that i can downgrade and root again. I will not need a goldcard to downgrade because currently i have S-OFF.

I am not sure whether it will work. But I am curious too.
I once upgrade via OTA and then I downgrade it following the instruction as per your link reference too. I rooted succesfully.
But, my DZ was S-ON.
Now you are in a different situation. You want to downgrade and root it but you already S-OFF.
Do you want to try it?
Cheers

I guess i have to try it.. will report after trying. Thnks all for the help..
Your theory on the previous owner having used the over the air update after rooting seems right to me. I've read more than a few times it will still show S-OFF but not be true S-OFF. Because you can't get S-OFF without root (well surely not on the newer 1.82's)
I'm not familiar with the 1.82 issues (why normal root methods fail on 1.82) but I wonder if temp root works, if you have radio S-OFF and temp root works it might be as simple as:
1. Obtain Temp Root (even Visionary could work)
2. Flash CWM Recovery (I'd use the flash_image method and not ROM Manager)
3. Reboot into CWM recovery
4. ...
5. Profit (Install a new pre-rooted ROM)
Of course this all depends on if temp root works with 1.82 and if your S-OFF is really S-OFF but it seems like a quick & easy thing to try.
I did it guys. It went smooth. Still needs goldcard though due to unmatched CID.
I'm on 1.34, rooted and S-OFF. Next find out ROM that i like most. Any recommendation? it has to be cool and fast..
So i figured that the warning "do not flash signed PC10IMG if you have S-OFF" is before we have the misc_version method. With misc_version "main is older" problem will never occur, provided misc_version done correctly.
Thank you all guys for your help and time especially for those guides starter. You guys are the ones who make this forum SO GREAT!

Help DZ noob to flash KitKat onto it

So today I got Desire Z. It's nice, I really love Sense 2.1 (or mostly it's LockScreen), but KK (with it ) would be better.
Now, as it's old phone and old forum, cannot find what and how to do.
I found this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-desire-z/help/complete-guide-to-root-downgrade-t3332619
Is that would I need to do or there is something easier?
Right now I have stock 2.42.405.3 and available update (6,55Mb so probably .4) and HBOOT-0.85.0013 with S-OFF (so previous user probably was playing with this device).
What I should do now?

Hey buddy,
Take a look through the first few posts here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2348266&page=16
It may seem like a lot but it will be worth it
So it seems that for fastboot I need this Engineering HBoot or after S-OFF I have full access?
Coz all guides for Eng HBoot are for downgraded devices and all the guides for downgrading are for S-ON devices...
However I've also found that Eng HBoot was used when S-OFF was not possible and now it's not recommended, what can mean that S-OFF gives access to Fastboot same way the Eng HBoot?
If ti is true, than flashing Recovery will be easy and than I can check Roms
I know I'm missing something, but cannot find it...

Correct, you have what we call fake s-off and only gives you a bit of help flashing your phone, to get true s-off the preferred method is to go back to stock and then downgrade and root with gfree
Relatively easy but a few steps needed first
If you have a chance to go to g2root on freenode iirc there is a good likelihood that guhl is there and will walk you through it all
If not then feel free to ask again and i can lay out some instructions for you hete

EDIT: It seems I have more time that I thought, so I'm checkin this g2root irc and waiting for someones answer
However if somebody could answer me one thing: With this fake S-OFF is it safe to downgrade using this method: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
Is it needed?
And what exactly S-OFF gives? Fastboot access like this Eng HBoot (at the beginning thought that it's HBoot from UK DZ/G2 )? Coz thats what I need : to flash CWM and than KK.
Downgraded, flashed Eng HBoot and CWM and KK is here. But I dont like it [emoji14] GB is coming...
