Any work arounds for incompatible market apps? Some thing like, let me install anything I want to please? Then I'll decide whether or not its compatible with my device.
Thanks
install either the ChaCha rom or the Salsa rom, they're newer and more capable devices. market will detect your device as one of those instead of the old Slide and allow you install apps that are otherwise not compatible.
Isn't NB_Mod-2.15.531.1 Revision 2 ROM new enough? Its what I'm on now.
Thanks
nope, that's still T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide. when you install one of those two roms, it becomes HTC ChaCha/Salsa.
By new, I meant HTC standard. ChaCha and Salsa are newer than our Slides, so as long as the app identifies your phone as T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide, you won't be able to install it because of the default hardware on our Slides.
Cool, thanks.

is there an app for the desire that turns the flash into a torch???
thanks
+1 for such an app like on the HTC HD2
Not come acroos an app that utilises the flash as a torch. There is this free app, which I think may work with Android 2.1 except that it will only illuminate the screen, and not the LEDs: http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-android-flashlight-zAA.aspx
there is already one for the HD2 called HTC Flashlight! Normally installed already in the programs list (don't know about these new T Mobile ones in USA though)
no there isn't one that works on Android marketplace yet for the Desire but one will appear within a month so not long.
yes there is one, i dont quite remember the name of the app but it will only appear in the marketplace if you are rooted.
but root isn't available for the desire yet so there still isnt one that works!
I've found it in the market, I can't remember the name but just search for flash light and you should find it.
The description says it works on Motorola Droid but not on Nexus One, so there is a good chance that it won't work on HTC Desire either...
Pulled the apk from the Desire Z dump and tried to run it on my G2 but it failed , Wondering what else i would need to get this to work
i don't think it will work just like that. you need a lot of sense or such to make it work that's why it never made its way to cyanogenmod .. miui guys from japan know how to do it but i don't think they want to tell how to do it.
You can't run any sence app on anything besides the rosie launcher. You can sometimes install it but it won't work, the app is written deep in the framework.

Kernel most likely doesn't support it.

Something is definitely missing
Just to see what I got, I downloaded the attached APK and used adb to install it, and then ran “adb logcat” while trying to launch it. The result is that it force closes right away, and from the output of logcat it looks like it is definitely missing some sort of libraries.
I'd post the thing but it's huge. Essentially, though, it winds up crashing because it expects something to be present that isn't; that's likely this sense thing that others have mentioned.
I suggest reading (and following along with) the thread in the Nexus One forum about getting FM Radio going on that phone. My guess is that whatever those guys come up with should also allow FM Radio on the G2 once it becomes possible to modify the G2 kernel to get the relavent drivers running.
Like its been mentioned it usually requires sense and the kernel to support it. Only the sense roms on the nexus one could use it. Not a developer at all but from what I understand so far, it is what is required.

@cyanogen:
The amazing guys at MIUI are contributing FM radio support to CM! Support them at http://miui.com

Sorry for posting twice in a row but as soon as I wrote that last post this was posted by the man himself. Should be promising.

it's working on the n1.. i assume you will need root to use it so if u plan not to root then don't expect to see it. for now thanks miui for the help.
Isn't the FM Radio a system app? That means that we won't be able to use it until we have write access to /system. So if you want to be able to even install it properly, you need to wait until we have root. From there we have to disassemble and find all the dependencies on the sense framework and port them back in. Also, I am sure that you'll need to use some of the corresponding libs.
I have a G2 with Gingervillain 1.5, and it works great. The only thing I'd like to change is what the device "describes" itself as (couldn't think of a better way to put it). It shows up as an HTC Vision, but I'd like android market specifically to see it as a G2. Probably not a problem that it doesn't, but if it's possible to change this then I'm all about it.
So, can anyone tell me what files I need to swap in my rom, or what bits of code need rewording, if it is at all possible?
Thanks people.
Looked around quite a bit and did not see any posts similar to this. I'm blind or there really isnt any. Is there a way to get Verizon only apps to work on some of these ROMs based on phones from other networks for the Inc? For example, i installed the "shooter rewind" sense 3 ROM and when i tried to install the Skype mobile for verizon it won't give me the option to download from the market. I also tied to recover it through Titanium, but when i ran it, it told me it only works on verizon phones and closed itself. Any workaround or do need to find the apk for the app from the phone the ROM is based on? Thanks to anyone that can help.

I would imagine that it's being worked on or that we don't currently have the API. Considering Verizon doesn't have a device that currently runs Sense 3.0 stock. The only phones that run Sense 3.0 stock are the HTC Evo 3D and the HTC Sensation. Those are on Sprint and T-Mobile respectively.
Forgive me if this had been adked or explained before... the search function in the xda app is only gigving me results for custom roms... no matter what I search for... but that's besides the point.
Lately there has been a lot of apps in the market that have been saying that they are incompatible with my device, but the work on my wifes phone (original cliq not rooted) and my moms gtablet (vegantab7rc1), I'm running a cm7 nightly ( I forget which one it was around the 1st of september) I have changed my lcd density to 200... would that be the reason why?
And insight would help, thanks

If the app can run on a Cliq, your phone will have no problem running it. I'm sure its something happening that the Market is identifying your device as a "Generic HTC phone" or something of the sort, and doesn't necessarily know the specs. I've flashed many many ROMs in my time and the Market identifies each one differently, I've just stopped paying attention.
The Market isn't stopping you from downloading the apps, is it?
The market prevent's us from downloading it.

yeah, if i side load it, it runs fine, the market isnt allowing me to download it, and according to my market settings... it identifies my phone as a tmobile g2... so maybe the market is broken...
Does your device by any chance have a different LCD density then the androids default 240? If so this is your problem. this happens with mine and my brothers G2, if the G2 has a different LCD density then 240 the new market, and only the new market (not the old one), will say some apps are incompatible. Try making sure you have the default lcd density set and reboot then retry downloading the app. The only way ive found to keep your custom lcd density AND be able to download any app is to revert back to the old android market.
I have the same issue. No change in lcd density. But any rom I use that is CM7 based has some issue with an app being incompatible. CM7 nightly said Facebook was not compatible. SuperCM7 says Evernote, MexDroid said Youtube.
I don't know what is wrong. I don't know if it has anything to do with the build.prop. I did change the prop to use Netflix. But I don't know if that is really an issue, since all roms seem to have this fixed and have there own build.props.
Over all, I am at a loss. Superwipe does nothing...factory reset did nothing. Any Rom that I've used has had some issues with compatiblity

the following two parameters in build.prop are responsible for the market identification
ro.build.description
ro.build.fingerprint
i used the latest stock rom values and it works very well with MIUI
Can you post the stock values please so I don't have up download the ROM
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Hold on... I'm downloading the stock rom and will extact the build.prop. I want to know too because I keep having to install Market 2.3.3 everytime lol! Its pointless to describe the solution without the full answer... sheesh!
Here ya go! Let us know if it works okay It's straight from T-Mobile USA Gingerbread build so it should work fine...
ro.build.description=2.15.531.3 CL82286 release-keys
ro.build.fingerprint=tmobile/htc_vision/vision:2.3.4/GRJ22/82286:user/release-keys
I didn't post the values because I don't know them for the G2 stock rom
the (stock roms) market identification for G2 and DZ is different and I only know the DZ ones

It's cool... I didn't mind post them. No big deal... thanks for pointing out the problem!
