I have a G2 with Gingervillain 1.5, and it works great. The only thing I'd like to change is what the device "describes" itself as (couldn't think of a better way to put it). It shows up as an HTC Vision, but I'd like android market specifically to see it as a G2. Probably not a problem that it doesn't, but if it's possible to change this then I'm all about it.
So, can anyone tell me what files I need to swap in my rom, or what bits of code need rewording, if it is at all possible?
Thanks people.

May be a stupid question, but is there anyway to extract the new version of sense from the HD Rom and add it to a EVO rom so we can have the new sense and all our other phone features working?

I think having just sense rosie, lock, music, etc is what he was talking about. A flashable zip to update your current Rom, not a camera broken port. I would love the same.
I believe is not possible since they haven't done it yet , but maybe we get an update with the new sense which imo it was supposed to be for froyo since all the features like backup all the apps is a froyo thing and we didn't get it in ours cause they wanted to show this.phone with 2.2 asap, and not another deal beaker like the hero
sent from my Evo running Myn's Rom

no thats not what he was asking if you take what he said at face value. he was asking something that he could have had an answer for just by searching or manually looking at pages past page 1

Im glad you know what people are meaning to ask
I would hope, that everything said is taken at face value and people don't try to look for some hidden message
I know about the roms floating around out there, have flashed a couple, but they all have something broken, hence "having all our phone features working." A flashable zip would be the ticket, that way we could update whichever rom we prefer using...
HTC weaves sense into android very deeply so it's easier said then done, but people are still working on it so it could happen. Even so if HTC sticks to their pattern and releases another towards the end of the month they may beat us to it. Either way it's not something you're likely to see in a flashable zip that can update ROMs, it's too drastic of a change.
Difficult :/
I have been working on such a thing for almost two weeks now. It started when I just wanted the new music ui. I tried porting that and then I found that after porting it wouldnt show up in the programs list so i needed to modify some files to get it in there. I got that far only to find that it would crash on opening. Further investigation showed that when you open the app it also loads the matching widget and DLNA stuff. I proceeded to port both of those also to find that the DLNA stuff requires a customized wifi stack. Still havnt fixed that but I also found that all of them rely on the HTC copyright apk which cannot coexist with the one already on the EVO that everything elce uses. Simply put, it would just be easier to port over everything than just parts. Sorry bud

Ditto, similar thing happened with me trying to port the "People Widget". Just to much stuff is tied together. In the meantime I am working on an app for Comcast Voice.
Hi all, I'm looking for a solution here,
I have an HTC Wildfire S, but I'm experiencing low memory issues too frequently for my liking so off to buy another budget android to use as a phone, but would like to keep using my Wildfire S possibly as a tablet.
When I say as a tablet I mean removing all the phone related features like messaging, phone, contacts and so forth, so would like to know if there are any good roms that are in this way. Or if possible editting the prop files to make the market think it is a tablet with similar specs, so if anyone can guide me here or give me any ideas on this it would be a great help.
As a quick solution to the low memory I'm doing a full wipe of my phone tonight until I get my new phone, which isn't ideal but I guess I will have to!
HTC Wildfire S A510e CDMA running robotomod
Rooted but S-On so cannot access system files to delete crap that's in there!

Honestly if you want to remove all these apps you need root, and with root you can simply increase your internal storage
But there is a ROM, Paranoid Android, for ICS or Jelly Bean, and it allows you to choose your UI (Tablet or Phone) for each app and to "zoom" these apps if they are too small or too large with Tablet UI.
If you want to delete messaging, phone, etc. , as far as I knows, you'll need do delete files yourself beacuse there is no tablet ROM on a phone :silly: . Be very careful, make a full backup and delete just files you want to delete. But I don't advice you to delete contacts because many apps use them.
However I think it would be a lot easier just to use int2ext+, s2e, data2sd, link2sd or whatever because it is a simple flash through recovery or just an app to install and that's done
contacts are also on tablets without 3G so dont remove it
Hello, extreme newbie here, with practically 0 experience with roms and various tweaks and stuff like that (I played around with these things a little back when gingerbread was THE thing, never touched Android since, till recently).
I've been using a One X for the past 6 months or so and I decided to finally get rid of all the gaming problems (due to HTC's power management, etc) and to benefit from various improvements that helped improve the experience for lots of people, unlocked it, rooted and installed the latest JB sense ARHD without a single problem + the advanced power menu and the mod pack. Everything works fine and seems like it'll work no problem, but there is only one small problem, the phone is now recognized as EndeavorU instead of One X, in the phone specs, on HTC sync and google account, it's a little annoying to see it named like that and my question is, or should I say questions:
1. Is this name change relevant to the overall functionality of the phone, in other words, did I mess something up that needs to be repaired?
2. Can it be changed back to its brand name instead of code name without having to restore the stock settings?
Thanks for the possible solutions and sorry if this has been asked before, couldn't find much info about this, only one random thread on some other forum where a guy had his phone revert to One X after a reboot, then back to EndeavorU and finally back to One X when he connected it to HTC sync, none of that worked for me.
The name EndeavorU is the official name of out phone. It doesnt matter and no need to be "fixed" .
Yes you can by editing the build.prop in system. You can use build.prop editor from play market for this. ( ROM toolbox includes this feature ).
But you need to find the actual variable you need to edit and it can be a bit confusing.
ADVICE : Leave everything as it is. It doesnt matter
Thanks for the answer, was mostly worried about it affecting the app compatibility detection (no idea how complex Google's database is with their devices and various names), but doesn't seem to be the case so far and if you say it does no harm to the functionality then I'll probably leave it like that, thanks again.
Couldn't help it , wanted to know more about this, got informed a little and understood especially that I shouldn't tweak what I don't know enough about because it might damage the phone, with the app you suggested it only took a minute to back up the original file and edit the name, yet another thanks.
Currently I am having an issue with 15 HTC wildfire S's.
Our company put on our own app onto different devices (Samsung Xcovers, Galaxy aces).
7 out of the 15 won't allow the app to work, force closing it every time we open it. I have already tried hard resetting the device and re installing several version of our app yet it still wont work on 7 of them.
The other 8 however do work, and the only difference between them we can find is the software number.
software number for devices not working - 2.26.401.3
software number for devices working - 2.13.401.3
I am guessing that I will be flashing the phone at some point to fix this, but I thought I would check before I end up breaking my client's phones
(I've only ever flashed my personal phone)
Is there anyway to change the software number? If so how?
Hi, and welcome to XDA.
If I may ask, what kind of app is it ? I've never heard of an app being broken on Gingerbread :/

Thanks,
It is basically a taxi management system app where the driver receives jobs and navigation details from base. We use the same .APK across all the different phones we deal with (which i'm sure can cause some compatibility issues).
Doesn't sound like something super hardcore, theoretically gingerbread apps are supposed to be horizontally and forwards-compatible, especially since your app runs fine on 8 phones.
Changing the software number won't fix it, at worst it has something to do with a small line of code that changed during the version updates. Flashing won't do any harm to the phones, be sure to backup first just in case.

OK then.
Thank you very much for the response
I will go have a word with our programmer about it and get him to check his code.
So, I just got the G3 (jumped from the g2) and was wondering if there is any way to add (or customize) the apps available on the dual-window screen?
The reason I ask is I had rooted my g2 and someone was able to port a version of the dual window app over to it (from the original phone it was launched on, the g-flex). I have looked but have not been able to find anything for the g3 yet? This would be awesome as I really think this is the only major flaw I have found in my g3, at least for me anyway?
I don't know if there is another way, but I used this apk and it allowed me to add all my apps to dual window. I know it says its for lg flex but it worked on the G3 as well. Of course, make a backup before hand just to be safe.

You change a setting in your build.prop to allow ALL apps to be used in dual window, amongst other things.
