May be a stupid question, but is there anyway to extract the new version of sense from the HD Rom and add it to a EVO rom so we can have the new sense and all our other phone features working?

I think having just sense rosie, lock, music, etc is what he was talking about. A flashable zip to update your current Rom, not a camera broken port. I would love the same.
I believe is not possible since they haven't done it yet , but maybe we get an update with the new sense which imo it was supposed to be for froyo since all the features like backup all the apps is a froyo thing and we didn't get it in ours cause they wanted to show this.phone with 2.2 asap, and not another deal beaker like the hero

no thats not what he was asking if you take what he said at face value. he was asking something that he could have had an answer for just by searching or manually looking at pages past page 1

Im glad you know what people are meaning to ask
I would hope, that everything said is taken at face value and people don't try to look for some hidden message
I know about the roms floating around out there, have flashed a couple, but they all have something broken, hence "having all our phone features working." A flashable zip would be the ticket, that way we could update whichever rom we prefer using...
HTC weaves sense into android very deeply so it's easier said then done, but people are still working on it so it could happen. Even so if HTC sticks to their pattern and releases another towards the end of the month they may beat us to it. Either way it's not something you're likely to see in a flashable zip that can update ROMs, it's too drastic of a change.
Difficult :/
I have been working on such a thing for almost two weeks now. It started when I just wanted the new music ui. I tried porting that and then I found that after porting it wouldnt show up in the programs list so i needed to modify some files to get it in there. I got that far only to find that it would crash on opening. Further investigation showed that when you open the app it also loads the matching widget and DLNA stuff. I proceeded to port both of those also to find that the DLNA stuff requires a customized wifi stack. Still havnt fixed that but I also found that all of them rely on the HTC copyright apk which cannot coexist with the one already on the EVO that everything elce uses. Simply put, it would just be easier to port over everything than just parts. Sorry bud

Ditto, similar thing happened with me trying to port the "People Widget". Just to much stuff is tied together. In the meantime I am working on an app for Comcast Voice.
All,
I am interested in eliminating HTC sense and some of the Sprint bloatware from my HTC EVO 4G. Can someone please explain how to do this? Do I need to ROOT my phone, install a new ROM or BOTH? If a new ROM is required, which ROM would you recommend?
Also, in case I run into any issues, I would like to be able to restore the stock HTC EVO software (OS). Is that possible? From my understanding, this would be possible. Is that correct?
Any assistance you can offer is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Zach
Easiest way is to use launcher pro. Or any other home replacement. Other than that you will have to root and flash a senseless rom.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Root the phone via Unrevoked. Make a Nandroid backup using your new Recovery menu, and then flash CyanogenMod 6.1 (a stock Android ROM with some added features, but no bloatware or Sense). FYI ROMs without any third-party interface are called AOSP (Android Open Source Project) ROMs. If you don't feel like rooting and you just want to get rid of the Sense interface on the homescreen, install LauncherPro.
I moved this Thread to the correct location. Apologies for placing it in the wrong topic area.
you have to realize sprint is a nation wide company and have many buildings. I'd start north east and work my way west. bring lots of ammo

He wants to eliminate sprint and sense for him. That is extreme.
I say switch to a g1 on t-mobile, that will solve the issues.

Some funny sh*& man!
I am definitely interested in rooting my phone and installing a custom ROM. I despise sense and it goes very deep into the software of the phone.
Just looking for the best directions to follow, as I am new to the rooting world!
Any direction is most appreciated. I have been reading and through reading, growing more and more confused!
Thanks,
Zach
To remove bloatware you definitely have to root. Use unrevoked as others have mentioned. Launcher pro gives you a different home launcher, but sense is still on the phone. If you want a completely sense/sprint free experience, the Cyanogenmod is what you need. Just keep in mind 4g doesn't work on it yet. Once rooted, install ROM manager and back up your current ROM before going custom.
You can always purchase Sprint then rape it till they go bankrupt. Then with all the money you made, you can buy HTC and do the same. Heck, you can even do that to Verizon as well while you are at it.

Don't use a "Sense-less" ROM. Most of them don't support 4G/HDMI (like Cyanogen for example). I'd suggest rooting, flashing a Sense ROM (I use Fresh 3.4.0.1), and remove HTC Sense and other Sprint bloat ware via adb. I use the MoDaCo 2.3 launcher and completely removed HTC Sense.
In all seriousness to remove the Sprint stuff, you have to root. You cannot fully remove Sense otherwise you lose 4G, and HDMI (IIRC). Now you can strip alot of the Sense UI stuff out. There are two removal scripts on XDA that you can flash that do just that. Again you have to be rooted. I took the script from OmegaSunS which I tweaked to my liking, and flash that when I flash a ROM. The Sense UI is almost gone, and a good amount of the bloatware is gone as well. Otherwise your only other choice is CyanogenMod.
If you're about to root, it has gotten very confusing lately, I see. I rooted in July when it was easy. Now there are several hardware versions of Evo floating around, and a few different versions of hoot. AND a few different versions of unrevoked.
If you're about to root on a newer phone, make sure you know your hardware version (you can find it in settings), and know your hboot version, use VOL down + power button. (Keep finger holding down volume while press and release power) that will put you in bootloader, read and remember the info on top of bootloader screen (hboot version # etc).
Good luck. I'm praying I don't break my Evo, cuz from what I've seen, it's become very complex to root. One of the versions of unrevoked will screw you, I just don't remember which one cuz it's not really my concern , and, I'd suggest use amonRA for your recovery, rather than clockwork (amonra at least tries to backup your Wimax - though there seems to be some recent speculation as to whether it does for everybody).
Not trying to instill fear, just making sure you know there's a lot of different info out there right now to look for. Good luck. it IS definitely worth it

hey man, my suggestion to you is that if you want to keep 4g and hdmi is to install a sense rom (myns rls4 is great!) then install Launcher Pro (best home replacement in my opinion) and then a guy on here by the name of calkulin has a flashable zip to remove sense. boom all problems solved
yeah just download launcher pro from the market for free. And that should help.
Ok, got psyched OnStar added 2010 models. However, could not even find the app on my phone - Redemptive Revolution 2.3/Lou's # 9 kernel. So I went to the market on the internet, and it says this application is not compatible with my phone (but has no problem with my Eris, which has been off the VZW network and unused for months).
So I ask around on another forum, and other Dinc folks can get the app, some rooted, some not.
Anyone else having this issue? I have checked the help forums over at the android market, and it seems many, many folks have similar problems, for example, they get a replacement phone, and it's not that they can't reload an app, it's that the market says the phone is not compatible, even though really is. No user or Google-type person has been able to address or even explain the issue.
This is the smartest bunch of android folks I know of, so if anyone has any thoughts, I'd really like this app for my phone, and I would be eternally grateful (for while anyway).
I've not had any issues with the Onstar app myself. I've used it on stock & stock+root, CM6 and CM7 RC1 and RC2 with my Droid inc. Only minor 'issue' was it forgot my login creds.
What ROM are you on. Works fine on my Z ROM on Incredible. Your ROM may be telling the market the wrong phone.
still on Redemptive revolution, which is an Inc-Evo hybrid. But it should not matter. It is still Froyo, and this issue seems to run deep in the market, just so happens I really want this app.

The Froyo part should not matter it is what phone the Market thinks it is talking to.
Try a different ROM like mine or one of the other Z ROM's and if it installs you can copy it from /data/app/ to your SD card and go back to your current ROM and install it. If you do a nand backup of your current you can install another and get back to yours easy
FWIW, I am running CM7 RC2, and the OnStar app works fine.
Some people hate the verizon apps , I actually like them because I am the account manager. I need to make sure there is no overages from time to time on my numbers also I like the My Verizon Widget.
Ever since 4.0.4 , all 4.0.4 roms it never works.
It says your device is not compaptible is there any chance someone provide me APK for Verizon Login or tell me how to load it ignoring the error in play store? thank you

Are you referring to 4.0.4-based custom ROMs? Because I'm running the official Verizon 4.0.4/Build IMM30B that was pushed over-the-air to some people, and Verizon login works fine, as do the Verizon-branded apps like NFL Mobile.
I have run into this issue on custom ROMs though, particularly on my Motorola Xoom. Unfortunately, I believe all the Verizon-branded apps are designed to specifically check for Verizon-blessed ROMs, not just whether or not you're a subscriber. As far as I know, none of our devs here at XDA have ever found a way to circumvent that protection.

Well 4.0.4 built from source isn't an official Verizon ROM, so therefore the Verizon-branded apps aren't going to work for you, unfortunately. That's so lame isn't it? Being a subscriber isn't enough...you have to be running officially blessed firmware as well.
Also, that "leaked" 4.0.4 wasn't really a leak. Verizon did actually push it OTA to some users but the OTA was ultimately stopped for unknown reasons. Regardless, if you want 4.0.4 AND the Verizon apps, I think the 4.0.4 OTA IMM30B is going to be your only choice for now until Verizon pushes an official IMM76D ROM, which hopefully will be soon.
So is there still no way to circumvent this problem? I'm running Apex on 4.0.4 and Verizon Login isn't compatible with my device. Is there no way to sideload the apk, or is that not enough? I can't imagine not being able to use the NFL Mobile app once football season starts up.

Is there an online version of the kitchen? I ask because it is the last resort to get a fully functional Rom on my evo before I allow my daughter to have it other than using my nandroid of my original and unrooting.
I use a 64-bit system Windows 7. Done research and it says a 32-bit Java will work but that is false. I have spent from 9am until an hour ago (3:30pm here now) formating my hard-drive and reinstalled my OS because it didn't work. Still the kitchen doesn't find Java although I tried to instal a 32-bit version. Online is the only way I can do anything or I need a step-by-step on what I need to do to an apk where I can do it on my phone or I am in need of someone building a Rom. So.....is there one online?
What are you doing? Making a fully functional ROM? Why not take a stock rooted or a working GB ROM like reloaded?
Yea just get a stock 5.07 rooted rom. Not really sure what you're trying to do

I am letting my daughter have my Evo. She has been hardcore blackBerry but given their status she is wanting to try Android. I have flashed every Rom on the first 10 pages of Development and what she has settled on as far as wanting most is Energy Rom. There are 3 problems stopping her from being totally happy with it. First is the 9016. After a lot of searching all I can find is it is tied to the Phone.apk. I have been unsuccessful at changing it out. The carousel shows only a grey screen when looking in Personalize but have been unsuccessful at getting the one from Mik3D installed and working since I know the one from that Rom works. The browser not going to mobile view and being to wide unless in landscape has been the only thing I have fixed. i used Root Explorer and deleted it and moved a basic stock in. Somehow it worked although the other things haven't. I had decided to try my hand at the kitchen to see if I could make the changes that way but it doesn't work on my PC regardless of what i try and believe me when I say I have taken extreme measures to make it work. So my hopes are that either someone can point me in the right direction on how to exchange an apk using only what tools I can find for my phone or in the direction of a kitchen online. For my phone I have installed: Root Explorer,File Manager and ZipSign2.

She's that picky? Tell her to get an iPhone. LOL
Even she is smart enough to know the first flip phone I ever purchased from Sprint way back when they finally got small enough to fit in your pocket is still better than the best Apple ever released.
However, with a little help I think I can make my life easier. I flashed Derp3D again and only 2 small things needed. First is the keyboard. How do I get the HTC back on and with dictionary? Last is how do I get the weather widget with sound? Those are the only things needed. Themes will be easy enough to handle.
Have you tried MikG v3.11 ? Uber Stable. Has a lot of Themes, and Mods available.

The kitchen won't help you for fixing the things you want to fix )besides the fact that there isn't an online version). The kitchen just essentially makes it easier to do the things you're already doing. But EnergyROm is a Sense 3.5 ROM, which is not what the EVO natively comes with. So, there will ALWAYS be issues with it, like the VVM 9016 texts, no 4G, etc. And trying to swap things in from a Sense 3.0 ROM (Mik3D) will only cause more issues. I think you're going to have to "put your foot down" and let your daughter know she can either have a fully functional ROM that doesn't look exactly as she wants, or she can have the eye candy she wants without full functionality.
There are plenty of fully functional ROMs out there with a Sprint base that don't have the 9016 issue. Honestly, those all seem to be extremely minor issues to me. Sounds like you should just bite the bullet and get her an EVO LTE, lol.
I have seen a lot of good reviews of Kendall's ROM, though. But I'm going to assume that's not what your daughter is looking for. Sounds like she likes the look/widgets of Sense.
I remember back in the day I tried a sense 3.0 rom that didn't do the 9016 or whatever, but I don't see how that bugs her. Its just a text message that would only take 2 seconds to delete. When I ran those roms, it wasn't a big deal to me.
With the sense weather part, still didn't have a problem with that either. Just had to turn sound up.
