is there an app for the desire that turns the flash into a torch???
thanks
+1 for such an app like on the HTC HD2
Not come acroos an app that utilises the flash as a torch. There is this free app, which I think may work with Android 2.1 except that it will only illuminate the screen, and not the LEDs: http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-android-flashlight-zAA.aspx
there is already one for the HD2 called HTC Flashlight! Normally installed already in the programs list (don't know about these new T Mobile ones in USA though)
no there isn't one that works on Android marketplace yet for the Desire but one will appear within a month so not long.
yes there is one, i dont quite remember the name of the app but it will only appear in the marketplace if you are rooted.
but root isn't available for the desire yet so there still isnt one that works!
I've found it in the market, I can't remember the name but just search for flash light and you should find it.
The description says it works on Motorola Droid but not on Nexus One, so there is a good chance that it won't work on HTC Desire either...

Basically I'm looking for a bookmark widget for my Desire, I would use the HTC one but I'm running a base version of Froyo not one with Sense.
I thought I had found one but I've reset my phone and now I can't find it, any suggestions?
I was trying to find one too, but then I discovered "Launcer Pro Plus" for 3 usd or what ever it cost, and it was well worth it. Look it up, it's widgets is much better than HTC-Sence :-D
Perfect mate, thank-you!

Anyone tried it yet?
Saw there's lots of APK's out there already to install it - tried it on unrooted, latest unbranded firmware and working ok - looks different, but seems to be fairly similar...
http://www.google.co.uk/search?sour...roid+market+2.2.6&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=
I think most of the update though is for behind-the-scenes stuff - like the refund timer of 15 mins rather than 24 hr, apk size limit increased etc.
Out of interest, does anyone know how this would get rolled out normally? Does the market update itself? as you can't search for it in the market...
AFAIK, it only works on Froyo for now.
Yep....only for devices running 2.2......if only i did'nt have CyanogenMod i would have installed it.......hmmmm seems it has only a 15 minute refund window

CyanogenMod is 2.2 (well 2.2.1, but I thought it would work on that too?).
Yes I tried. It works on my desire very well. Smoothly. Give us some beautiful weight.

I read the google blog thing that it was designed and will be rolled out for all devices 1.6+
Not too sure about the big green banner along the top- looks like a bit of a waste of space to me... also I thought there were new categories for widgets and live wallpapers?
Got it on my Desire and it works great for me. I think its a great improvement. Running a stock WWE ROM here. There's more info and download links here http://www.eurodroid.com/2010/12/new-android-market-includes-support-for-tablet-displays/

I too couldn't wait for the official roll-out. Downloaded t'd apk, works a treat. I prefer to the old market

Would be nice if you could switch between the old and the new market

Is the change on the update window based on your market version?

Banner is great IMHO for the starting page but not on each app page. Wasted large banner space at the top and in large areas, fonts and padding dedicated for your review/similar sections (poor screen estate efficiency). They should shrink that all down, especially the font. Smoother UI and better in some respects but I preferred tabs much more (for sections I rarely use) as well as the fact that I can't manually stop/restart installs on this version anymore, like I was forced to do with previous versions due to recurring buggy market installs that get stuck.

Noob here. I brought my desire hd a month ago and so far im really satisfied with what this device can do.
In my old Nokia I used to use ovi maps which used to show my current location and the route I need to take very accurately, something I find lacking on my desire. Google maps seems to show my location accurately only when the data connection is on.. with only gps on,it doesn't seem to pin point my location at all !is there no turn by turn navigation available?
I understand there are advantages to rooting such as getting tethering which doesn't come out of the box on other phones.. but if I do not want to try out other roms what other reasons are there to root since I have tethering right out of the box
?

You do know this is a Desire not a Desire HD forum.
Rooting allows you better control to your phone. An analogy would be a car with a sealed engine bay. Unlock that and you can fiddle with engine settings to get a more suitable "beast".
You can add/remove system apps (which is not a good idea unless you really know what you're doing) and it is a pre-requisite when you try to install custom recovery, S-OFF or custom ROMs.
You do realise that there is a navigation app that comes with Google Maps right? And I also believe that with the Desire HD you have HTC Laputa which is HTC's own maps and you don't need a data connection for that. Tbh, Google Maps is really powerful if you know how to use it.

Hello,
sorry about my bad English, last shool lesson is a long time ago
Since about 4 weeks i can't longer save my HTC Zoe Clips on the phone.
Everytime i press the button "Finish" a new Windows open to Upload my Clip on HTC Zoe.
I deinstalled the App but then it would like everytime to send me to the playstore to reinstall it.
I had today contact with the HTC support and they say me!!! It's not a problem from HTC directly it's a problem with my Provider!!! :silly::laugh:
They say the Provider could erase this Function to save the clip local *LOL!!!*
I have three friends with two HTC One M8 and one with an M7 and all with the M8 have the same Problem with different Providers one of them with a free HTC M8.
Only the one with the M7 has no problem and his Zoe is like ever :crying:
I think that is ****! that is cheating!
Uninstall the new version. I am still using the old version; it works great.

Mhhh if i uninstall Zoe it only would like to install the newest Version from the Store...
Where can i get the "older" Version?
When you uninstall HTC gallery; you should get a message something like this app will revert back to an old version.
My HTC gallery version is 8.50.814092. Install this version and make sure to disable playstore auto update apps. Change the settings to do not auto update my apps.

Could you give a hint?
Hi there!
As far as U have seen, HTC 10 is a hyge hardware device but it comes with only standard Google apps pre-installed. So HTC Sense interface is basically disappeared from the phone.
Considering how much better HTC apps are compared to Google standard apps, it's a huge shame having such a great phone on hardware level running on standard google base system. People have always had hate for custom interface but they don't know what are they saying if they consider everything as a third-party apps, the evil. There are 2 different situations, one thing is customisation of network operator which install useless and buggy application, another thing is manufacturer applications, which in the case of HTC, have always been better than the standard Google applications since the beginning of android. So having no HTC apps on the sense 8 is a great loss. My question is: it will still possible to install all HTC apps on the play store of sense interface on the new sense 8?
By the way I have an HTC One M9+ Supreme Camera and I'm currenlty on sense 7 and android 5, well if sense 8 will be with google standard apps only, I hope that the update to Android 6.0 for my device will keep sense 7.0 interface. I want to use HTC apps.
I think this is a welcomed change. Simpler, faster updates, faster phone... But I do think I saw somewhere that you could install the applications from the play store. Worst case just port them over, there are so many mods that allows you to port to other phones I bet it would be easy to move it over to the 10.

I think that if you go looking to the quality of HTC apps compared to standard google apps, there is no match. If someone want a standard and free Android interface, then buy a nexus phone which is excellent. If I buy an HTC, I want a customized Android experience, at least this is my opinion. Having to struggle with MOD it's second hand option and also if HTC won't develop its apps in the future it would be impossible to do.

That's your opinion, I see very little to no difference. If this is a deal breaker for you, protest... and buy from LG or samsung. I find the google versions are more than adequate for all I need. I love that more manufacturers are going to this style, faster updates and a more streamline approach. They can add their best features to the device and keep it fast. Give it time before you protest them, you may like the change. If not you have 14 days
Well, on HTC One M8 running HTC 10 ported ROM I could easily download all the missing HTC apps from the Play Store. So, no actual difference from Sense 7 roms.
Maybe on the real HTC 10 your experience will be different.
you know if you have the apks of the older apps you can still install them right?

I suppose that it depends...if the apps has been ported to the current version of Android... and this is something that HTC have to do.

Yes it's my opinin but I still think that if you want standard google interface you can buy a Nexus or maybe HTC can realese the Google edition phone like it did in the past.
By the way I have recently swtich from an HTC One S with sense 4 to an HTC One M9+ Supreme Camera and sense 7 (also blinkfeed is nice) but I do miss some widgets from HTC (like gallery widget, bookmark widget and colored meteo widget).

It was a business decision and sadly if you hate it then you'll have to keep you M9 or buy something else. Some of us are excited about it and who knows you may grow to love it. Or maybe they will regret it and put it back in an update.
As far as some reviews said it will still be possible to download all HTC Apps from PlayStore and thus install them on the new HTC 10. In fact it is wrong that they are better than the respective Google Apps, as they are just GUI modded Google Apps.
Only App I wouldn't download is HTC Gallery App, as I read that it interferes with the new HTC Camera App, as the later one has been optimized to work with Google Pictures App.

I don't understand people sometimes. This information has been a talking point of almost every general review of the new phone. It took OP longer to ask here and wait for an answer then to just Google it! Save yourself some time and Google it first.

Google Photos, in my opinion, is only good for photo editing. A standalone gallery is sorely missing from Android. Hell, I still use a pre-CM owned version of QuickPic instead of Google Photos.
