Hi everybody.
A bit of help will be appreciated.
I have updated my DHD from Android Revolution 5.xx ROM to the latest LeeDrOiD HD V3.2.0 GB ROM. The flashing went fine. Then I tried to flash new radio with fastboot and the message is :
C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>fastboot flash radio radio.img
sending 'radio' (24960 KB)... OKAY [ 4.074s]
writing 'radio'... FAILED (remote: not allowed)
finished. total time: 4.075s
Is it bricked and what can I do? It is still in Fastboot USB mode and I have not rebooted the phone.
try this maybe you havent done S-off

Thanks for replay. I had Android Revolution ROM and radio flashed before, without any problems. The main Fastboot USB screen shows S-OFF.
I have rebooted the phone and it works. Still do not know why radio flashing failed as radio is S-OFF. The radio version I wanted to re-flash was the same as on the phone.
same version of the radio might be the problem
i had your same issue once.
you need ENG S-OFF to flash radio through fastboot.
if it says "SHIP S-OFF" in the bootloader then you dont have ENG S-OFF.
find the thread (google it, u'll find it) and it'll (hopefully) work

Yes, you need eng s-off. Strangely you can upgrade the radio without it, but not revert back.

I learned the hard way that a failed radio flash does not *always* brick your phone. THANK GOD. (not that I'm religious )
I had this same issue trying to flash my radio last week. Everyone is correct, you need to get S-Off, yes, but then you need Eng S-Off. It's not difficult, just search the development forums and there's a one-click style tool that will get'er done.
Good luck, happy flashing.
Thanks for all your suggestions. The phone was locked and branded when new. I managed to downgrade, unlock and flash to the latest Android Revolution 5.xx ROM. There seems to be a problem with ENG S-OFF and that's the reason for Fastboot flash failure. I have used Easy Radio Tool, but for whatever the reason it only worked for unlocking. I just wonder how did I manage to do all the flashing before. Will have to read Easy Radio Tool guide and do it again.

Hi noooob - first post
HTC Desire with SLCD O2 UK ROM froyo (2.2) and GSM I gather.
I have used unrevoked 3 to enable me to free up more space by using Superuser and a2SDfroyo.
This all work well I know there is better out there and I'm toying with the idea of installing a new 2.3 ROM.
Now I have tried to change my O2 splash screen but i get the error signature verify fail:
fastboot flash splash1 htcsplash.img
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
T:\Build\android\sdk\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools>..\tools\fastboot flash splash1 htcsplash.img
sending 'splash1' (750 KB)... OKAY [ 0.124s]
writing 'splash1'... INFOsignature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 0.212s
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am unsure if this is my problem but I have superuser of which I thought was synonomous with S-OFF
but I note that when I boot into bootloader that my details say S-ON or does the SHIP S-ON simply mean that the phone was shipped as S-ON
--------------------
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
TOUCH PANEL-SVNT0101
RADIO-5.09.05.30_2

--------------------
I'd also like to know if altering the splash screen is reversed, with a restore of the O2 stock ROM, incase of a warranty requirement.
So 3 Questions really:
1. How to flash my splash1
2. Can I restore the O2 splash if warranty required and will the RUU for a stock rom do the trick
3. Is my S-ON or S-OFF
I have lots more questions but i'll carry on surfing the forum for now.
You need to be S-OFF to do that
Thank you EddyOS.
OK - so Superuser by using unrevoked3 has not installed a new hboot that switches to S-OFF, I'll need AlphaRev for that I guess, or another ROM that replaces the HBOOT for one that'll switch S-OFF.
Will an original RUU O2 rom will put things all back if I need to return to HTC if it develps a fault whilst under warranty. I think the answer is yes just would like a confirmation so that I a little more confident about how these great devices work.
Yes, use Alpharev to gain S-OFF so you can change your splash.
And yes, running an O2 RUU will get you back to stock, no root and S-ON.

[Q]+[A] flash splash1 and is S-ON or S-OFF

hi,
i've been trying to update my radio.
a while ago i flash back to a stock orange rom so i could do s-off which seemed to go ok.
since then i have tried various ways (AMT 1.1 & 1.2 and Android control) to upgrade from radio from 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M to 12.35d.60.140f_26.06.03.24_M2 as recommended by mike for his Android revolution ROM.
everytime i do it, the phone boots into fastboot and appears to load the new radio, the phone re-boots and everything tells me its been done successfully, but when i check the version reported in settings hasnt changed.
i checked by going into fastboot myself and it reports "ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF " which should confirm that the s-off has worked and i can flash a new radio.
can anyone confirm that i've done it right, or am i missing something obvious?
many thanks
To flash radios via fastboot you need ENG S-OFF.
You also should have Radio S-OFF.
Check these threads ENG S-OFF & Radio S-OFF
ahh, sorted now
many thanks
You need ENG S-OFF in order to flash your radio. Just use the search form and you will find a 1-Click-Tool in the forums.
I did that yesterday and all worked fine
All right. U need Eng OFF and S OFF.
I did it with Easy S-Off software and flashed radio with QFP.
Hi everyone,
I'm using leedroid rom and it's very nice of him to produce such an excellent rom.
After flashing rom, I continued to flash "radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2" as he recommended.
I just wondered how to flash this radio version.
Please help!
Head to my site, into Radios, then Radio Flasher Packaged. You will see that radio version.
Download that, unzip & run. It will guide you through the whole process.
I would like to say thank you to what you have provided.
I followed your steps then checked my radio version on Bootloader screen. The results are as follow:
"ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT - 0.85.0007
........
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M"
That means Radio version is still the same.
someone says that I have to do the two work simultaneously: eng S-Off and Ship S-Off.
What exactly do I have to do?
Search for 'one click eng s-off' and use the tool
Once thats done you'll be able to flash a new radio via fastboot
Also, don't post your question twice.
Use the search function too. If you did, you'd know you had to have S-OFF.
Closed.
Hello
I am using ARHD 6.1.2 and i have a radio flashing problem.
I start the cmd and write "adb reboot bootloader" and when it is in bootloader i type "fastboot flash radio radio.img"
then it starts to flash. Everything is okay before the writing part starts. It says FAILED Remote: not allowed
Radio is 12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19_M.
What should i do?
When i go to the bootloader it says ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF, so that means i have radio s-off anfd eng s-off?
please help me!
I believe this means that you don't have ENG S-OFF. I flashed that same radio yesterday with the same method and it worked fine.
thank U very much.
My friend told me wrong then.
So i downloaded the eng s-off tool and everything went fine.
Hi How do u get the S-OFF tool to work on ARHD6.1.2/3 ?
I tried and it says "Incompatible kernel"
best way to flash without ENG OFF IS TO DOWNLOAD THE RADIO FILES IN "PD98IMG.ZIP" format (search the forum for them) place them in root folder of sd card power off the phone then holding vol down and power key enter the bootloader the device automatically prompts for radio update press vol up button voila you are done. most important is you make sure you checksum the file after you copy to to sd card...
Thanks tommy , i tried that and it worked.
Just curious, is there any way to get Eng Bootloader and Radio S-Off once I am on AR HD 6.1.3? Those tools seems to only work on the stock rom.

this method worked for me
i ran the tool as administrator on windows 7, clicked "I have radio s-off" (which you must already have since you have a custom rom on your phone) then clicked "s-off it!" and it was done.
read the thread thoroughly before trying, YMMV
Ah thanks maatsby! Guess all i needed to do was tick the checkbox.
My bad for not reading the requirements clearly.
Hello, i have flashed new ROM on my phone (DHD) ROM - ARHD 6.3.1
then i wanted to flash radio too. I did it like is written at instructions, but i have a problem.
When i wrote to black command prompt "fastboot flash radio radio.img
It wrote: sending -> done
writing "radio" -> failed <remote: not allowed>
Can you help me what to do please? of course i had USB debuging enabled.
It sounds like you don't have ENG S-OFF on your DHD - to flash any file using the fastboot.exe method, you need ENG S-OFF.
See this thread to flash an engineering hboot to your phone and get ENG S-OFF:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403
Or this thread for an alternative way to flash radios without replacing the hboot on your phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054304
Hope that helps.
I hadn't S-OFF thank you!
But i dont understand why, i have custom ROM so i had to do ENG S-OFF, didnt I?
You have SHIP S-OFF. Not ENG S-OFF.

Yes, thank you
i am beginner in this, i dont know many things about it. Its too many informations for me right know, so excuse me please
Well you got as far as rooting your phone and flashing a custom ROM, so you're doing good. Mind you, a search on the error message would have turned up lots of results, so it's always a good idea to search first before asking questions.
SHIP S-OFF (also called Radio S-OFF) is a way of changing a security setting on your phone that allows you to write to parts of your phone's memory that are usually protected, such as the system partition where the ROM is. It also allows you to set the "Super CID" which allows carrier-locked phones to work on any network. However it doesn't allow you to use fastboot.exe to flash things to your phone.
ENG S-OFF is a complete replacement for the normal hboot (or bootloader) on your phone. It's an engineering version of hboot, and pretty much allows you to write to any part of your phone's memory, including using the fastboot.exe tool - which allows you to flash radios from the command line.
They're both ways of removing security on your phone, but they work in slightly different ways and complement each other.
You only need SHIP S-OFF to flash a custom ROM, but you need ENG S-OFF to flash a radio - unless you use the PD98IMG.ZIP file method from the second thread I linked. That will work with just SHIP S-OFF, since it doesn't make use of the fastboot.exe tool.
Hope that helps a bit rather than confuses things further.
