I decided to have my Evo 4G Digitizer replaced locally. The Glass cracked, otherwise the Screen functionality is the same as before regarding sensitivity, responsiveness, etc.
I want to make sure I am getting an OEM replacement, and not a cheap chinese knockoff. I have seen many chinese manufacturers selling Evo 4G Digitizers and other Parts.
I have a Novatec LCD at present.
The shop told me over the phone they have OEM, But I want to be sure when I go there tomorrow. Any help is appreciated............
Btw, the Evo fell on its corner, so part of the Plastic frame is notched (slightly) where the glass fits into and I want to replace the frame also. The reason is that without that section (1/4") of plastic (the lip,) the Glass may be susceptible to damage in the future.
The frame and the glass are 1 piece. Just go direct to sprint and for 30 dollars you will get a new screen. I just did it last month and it took less then an hour for them to install it

I wish it was that easy for me. Every Sprint store I've called told me I have to go through insurance.
But what they will do is replace the screen if you buy one online...but you have to get the lcd and digitizer. You (the op) might wanna do that since a lot of people have a hard time putting the new screen in.

I have seen this one at Amazon with excellent reviews >
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00427PUMK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A1M0J6UC9S4O6R
The repair store (Not Sprint) wants $130 for the Digitizer and Install. I didn't know the Digitizer comes with the frame/bezel. I have seen them separately.
Correction to above > I see in the pic that the glass/digitizer is already in the frame.
Regarding Sprint Repair, I have read they no longer replace the glass. I called the local Sprint Store that does repair. They said they don't have the parts and that they no longer replace the glass, and that I have to go through Asurion. I may have to call another Sprint Repair shop to inquire.
I didn't know Sprint Repair replaces Digitizers that are Customer bought. I doubt they do that in NY especially, but I may be wrong........
I have a replacement coming from Asurion tomorrow, But figure I can get the Digitizer replaced locally so I can keep my Evo as other than the Glass, it was working perfectly. I don't feel like having issues if the replacement has problems.
I do have TEP obviously,

For what it's worth, $100 can fetch you an evo in like new condition on the right day on craigslist (or IRC for that matter...)..
Sell the broken one for parts & use the difference to buy one if you really want it.
I hear ya.
But I already have a replacement coming from Asurion later today if I want to keep it.
It's all about who you talk to. The first time I went into the store they said they wouldn't replace it. I went in the next week talked to someone else and he did it
I can get my Digitizer replaced for $80 at a Sprint store
But I just picked up my Asurion replacement Evo and it is Brand New with Froyo 2.2 installed.
I'm gonna keep the new one and Root it.
Can I put my old SD card in the New Evo before Rooting the New Evo, or should I put my old SD card in the New Evo after Rooting?
I have the Rooted Gingerbread and a bunch of other stuff on my Old SD card.
UPDATE:
Put my original SD card in my new Evo and Rooted it
Everything working well.............

So sometime between friday and today I've managed to crack the glass over my camera. I have no clue how this could have happened since I have it in a seidio innocase, and the camera rests below the case. I don't get why they didn't use the same type of glass for the camera as they did for the scree!
In any case, I'm not sure what to do to fix it? I'm still within my 30 days (barely!) but I'm not sure if it's a widespread enough issue for me to try and get them to replace it.
Any advice you guys can give me would be appreciated.

They have to replace it if it's within 30 days. Go replace it no way you can fix that.
So basically tell them to fix it or that i'll return the phone and cancel my service? (i'm also a new customer)
well if you have the insurance that may help a little.. but im not sure if you would have to pay that crazy $100 fee
I'm not sure they'll take it back in the 30 days, since it's not a defect and the phone isn't in "like new condition." You broke it, so they probably won't accept it.
If you haven't purchased the phone insurance yet, I would just purchase that and then wait a while and attempt to get it exchanged that way. Also, a repair facility might be able to replace it..?
As I said on another forum, if you end up pulling out the glass (because it is very easy to replace yourself), take some measurements. We should be able to get a sapphire lens that will replace it and be much more durable.
I read somewhere, either here or one of the other forums that the camera lens cover is actually made of plastic. The poster said he heated a pin and was able to push it through like a hot knife through butter.

Interesting... Got a link?
I turned the phone over on day 18, and yes, my glass has a "popped" right down the middle. I babied this thing in a gooey case, b.c even though 2.5 years with an iphone with no case and no issues, i thought htc was being gusty with their protruding camera, so for that reason alone I went with a case.... and NO WAY, crack. and i did the run around yesterday. I called HTC, and even thought the person who called the rep right before me complained of the EXACT same issue, short ownership and glass crack, they said sadly the crack is considered physical damage and not yet a issue htc is aware of. so i called a local Sprint store who said oh yeah, no problem, your within the 30 days right? yes, call this number at sprint headquarters, they will send you a new one and a box to send the old one, bla bla bla like its totally no problem, however, the corporate sprint rep kindly regrets i have been misinformed, and its physical damage. then i call the local store back and they are bummed and send me to a different store, a cooperate repair place who they believe would swap it out. this guy says, bummer, looked at it via a microscope, says its a plastic sheet cracked straight through with small perpendicular cracks and due to popularity they don't even have any repair parts... basically they get them as people smash their front screen, then they part them out. b.c. the phones are so new and popular, they don't have any (i'm in a 4g area). so he just said take the phone to any cooperate store, not bestbuy radioshack, (third party dealers) and say that i received the phone damaged, and just noticed it now, and they should they will swap you with one due to being in 30 days. So i will try that today, but i feel caught in a catch 22. its not even 30 days and the device breaks, which qualifies as physical damage from the customer, so no one will swap phones with you, and b.c its so new and hard to get, no one has parts even, repair facilities, so our 30 day window will run out before we can get it fixed for free... Next day i try a second corporate store, for sure the cracked high strength plastic is considered physical damage so there is no way to return phone and cancel service, you will still be stuck with the cost of the phone. so. because its still early, you can add insurace 7 bucks a month, 100 buck deductible. so basically my options are 107 for a phone with a perfectly sealed camera that doesn't create any glare in low light pics or pics shot into a light source, or i can just ride it out, and hope over time htc does something or parts become available via ifixit.com. so. mega bummer no idea how it broke, obviously everyone who looks at the single crack has to believe you somehow maliciously directly hit it on something with a protruding point, and i'm pretty sure it wasn't there when i got it, but i do know i didn't do anything out of the ordinary, so its a real puzzler. but, i would say if you have this issue, take it to a sprint repair facility if only to have the tech log the problem on thier system ,b/c then more techs will add notes to the issue and sprint/htc will have actual legit feedback to see if its a trending problem. even though you are going to get nowhere, even within the 30 days, make the complaints so the problem get's noticed. oh and did i mention i bought 2 one for me, one for my wife... with hers, so far so good. would love to hear if any others had luck fabricating one out of sapphire or something else really durable. its got to be a 20 cent piece of plastic.
That sucks man, sorry to hear that. I know other people have had the same issue. Hopefully htc owns up and fixes it.
Any suggestions on how to go about fixing/repairing it?
Screen and buttons seem top be fine, just the glass that needs fixing.
Would live to great some success stories on the same. I need my evo healthy!

Just replace it yourself.
I replaced the glass and digitizer on an iPhone 3g once and it was pretty easy. I just had to pull off the glass with a suction cup and the pull out any pieces of the cracked glass (heat gun or hair dryer helps alot) then connect the ribbon and place the new glass on by peeling off the paper backing and placing it on the frame. They have adhesive on the back so no gluing or anything like that. The Evo's look like they work the exact same way and the replacements can be found on ebay for $26
I tried to post the link for ebay but it would let me. Just search it.
the evo has the screen, bezel, lcd, and digitizer all in one component, so it should be a little harder. i've never done it, but i think you unscrew the torex screws under the battery cover, then just pull off the screen/bezel/lcd/digitizer.
Why not see if the store will still repair it for $35 like they were doing not too long ago?
Checked with Sprint Store, they said they no longer do screen repairs. My only recourse with them would be to buy a new EVO at retail, since I dont have a protection plan.
I found a cell repair store at the mall that will do it for $100, and guarantee their work.
I also found replacement parts for as cheap as $45, there are also youtube videos showing how to disassemble the beast. And I do mean disassemble, you have to take it basically completely apart to get at the screen, thanks to how the bezel works. Would also need to purchase a T5 torx head screw driver. It doesn't look to be too hard, but its definitely not something I would ever want to screw up.
All things considered, I'll go for warrantied work at the mall shop. But just wanted to post my findings for anyone else searching for this in the future.
They no longer do screen repairs period? So if u have TEP and come in with a broken screen, do they order you a free refurb, or make you go through Assurion for $100?
If they replace it free under warranty and your cool with a refurb, just add TEP on your line. All you need to do is activate any Sprint phone on your line. Call in and add TEP to your line. Then swap bacj to the EVO use it for 2 days and take it in for repair.
That's all I did, when I wanted the screen repaired on my old TP2 before I sold it. Activated, added TEP, took it in and got a refurb 2 days later. Of course, this is if you want a refurb and if they will replace it free.

Sprint will tell you to go through Asurion. I just had to do this recently, but I was fortunate enough to get a brand new phone from them instead of a refurb.
OP = Replacing parts is not as easy as you see in the Youtube videos. You can't tell if the LCD is cracked along with the digitizer until you take it apart, so you may need the LCD and not know it. The LCD/digitizer combo will run you $60-$70, so if the mall will fix it for $100 with parts, labor and warranty, I would go that route, too.

I know I seem to be advertising a lot lol but for cheaper than that I can sell you the LCD and digitizer all together already pre put together with the plastic direct form htc manufacturing...like I told ruge as he probably remembers things may not be so easy as thought out before you attempt it, stupid things can go wrong and you can end up wasting your money
Has anyone had to replace the screen on their evo? Roundabout how much did it cost? Im trying to figure out whether to fix the screen on my phone or just get a new phone all together.
I got a replacement on Amazkn for like $28, and it wasn't too hard to replace. Just be careful with the other wires in the phone.

Well I got very lucky. The screen on my device started forming a very noticeable white spot in the middle, took it to Sprint and they replacee it for free. I also got the ear piece and the speaker replaced at no charge. All I did was call ahead and set up an appointment.
Prices can vary on eBay, but I just replaced my wife's Evo LCD, and Touch Digitizer. I got both parts preassembled for about $50. For instructions I went to ifixit.com and searched for HTC Evo, but it only took me 20 minutes total.
like others have mentioned, its not difficult at all. Their is a video on you tube telling you exactly how to do it. I think total with the tools and screen replacement total was around $35.
Hello fellow n7100 owners. All input welcome, but especially from other US residents who own n7100s.
So I did something stupid this weekend. I wore these loose shorts with loose pockets and dropped my phone when I sat in my car.
The screen is cracked now at the top right. It turns on just fine, works as usual, and the touch sensitivity also seems to be normal in the area of the crack. So it seems like the problem is just cosmetic at this point, , and in a darkly lit room, it's hard to even see the cracks when the screen is own.
But it's bothering me to look at it, I really liked the way this phone looked and kept my screen and everything in absolutely immaculate condition before this. What are my options?
I figure I can't send it to samsung, since I bought it off ebay, and obviously it's not a domestic galaxy note 2.
I'm thinking self repair is a no go, unless it's very easy and doesn't require a lot of tools because I am not handy at all with those types of things. I was thinking of taking it to a local repair shop that I found online, but I don't know how much it's gonna cost...and if I do take it there, if I should buy the parts I need beforehand so they don't overcharge me on those.
Any thoughts?
Anyone? Someone?
I wouldn't even think of trying it yourself. I wouldn't even try it myself. Your out of luck when it comes to warranty as you bought the device second hand. Your best bet is to find a store like you have and get an estimate
If I am correct, I know you could go to Samsung and let them repair it. Just say you'll pay for it.
I changed only the glass on my 2nd s3 it cost me £15 for the glass and £20 for the heatgun. Check out youtube for tuts

Call up mobiletechvideo.com. they're located in Texas. They swap out emmc chips in Samsung phones so I would assume they can do screens too unless they can't source them.

I got my note 2 as a gift, but when I received it, the screen near the front camera was cracked out the box. So, called Samsung service centre, they say they wouldnt repair it because it was out of their warranty, and if I wanna fix it, it will cost approximately $200 dollars (converted from Indonesian Rupiah).
Hi,
I dropped my S2X today and broke the screen.
The picture is okay in the back.. but the glass on the front is broken. So, is it called digitizer or LCD? and how much should I pay to repair it? People are asking from $100 to $175!! And seriously, the price for the new phone when I bought outright was $150!!
I found something on eBay for around $15..
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-Black-Di...cement_Parts_Tools&hash=item3f1b029e5d&_uhb=1
So, is this what I am looking for? or something else?
I live in GTA, so I was thinking there might be more options to repair the thing in some store or something but no luck on Kijiji! Asking for 3 digits is insane!!
Let me know what should I do!
Thanks,

Well, the cost of a smartphone can easily be $500-$800, so paying only $100 to get it fixed can be a deal. I see people complain all the time that Apple charges $149 for Out-of-warranty work, when they "only" paid $199 for the phone. An iPhone can cost $649-$849, the "$199" paid is the on-contract, subsidized price.
And, if the design of Samsung's phones are similar to the iPhone, you may need more than just the digitizer. The iPhone 4 and newer have the Digitizer (the outside part that you touch) and the LCD (the inside part the displays the picture) fused together, as one piece. You cannot replace "just" the digitizer or "just" the LCD. You must purchase a "display assembly" - both pieces together, as a single unit.
When I check eBay for "T989 Display Assembly", I see many going for around $250.
Again, if people are only asking for $100 - $175 to fix it, I'd go for it. Consider it a lesson learned and try to be more careful with the device.
Another 100 and you can buy a new N4.
Sent from my cellular telephone
The glass is separate from the digitizer. If it is anything like the s3/s4/note2, the glass is attached with a layer of adhesive to the front of the entire lcd. You can order just the glass for $10 USD. It is possible to change. It just takes patience. You must heat up the front of the glass using either a heat gun or hair dryer in order to soften the glue that holds it all together.
Yes its a pain, but very doable. Look at the YouTube guides carefully. Heres a link for the white and the black glass both under 10 bucks on ebay.

If you aren't careful, you can and will crack your LCD, in which case you are SOL. Always keep the glass heated ( roughly 185 degrees ) and work slow prying upwards, not downwards.
