n7100 owner in the USA, dropped my phone and cracked screen - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello fellow n7100 owners. All input welcome, but especially from other US residents who own n7100s.
So I did something stupid this weekend. I wore these loose shorts with loose pockets and dropped my phone when I sat in my car.
The screen is cracked now at the top right. It turns on just fine, works as usual, and the touch sensitivity also seems to be normal in the area of the crack. So it seems like the problem is just cosmetic at this point, , and in a darkly lit room, it's hard to even see the cracks when the screen is own.
But it's bothering me to look at it, I really liked the way this phone looked and kept my screen and everything in absolutely immaculate condition before this. What are my options?
I figure I can't send it to samsung, since I bought it off ebay, and obviously it's not a domestic galaxy note 2.
I'm thinking self repair is a no go, unless it's very easy and doesn't require a lot of tools because I am not handy at all with those types of things. I was thinking of taking it to a local repair shop that I found online, but I don't know how much it's gonna cost...and if I do take it there, if I should buy the parts I need beforehand so they don't overcharge me on those.
Any thoughts?

Anyone? Someone?

I wouldn't even think of trying it yourself. I wouldn't even try it myself. Your out of luck when it comes to warranty as you bought the device second hand. Your best bet is to find a store like you have and get an estimate

If I am correct, I know you could go to Samsung and let them repair it. Just say you'll pay for it.

I changed only the glass on my 2nd s3 it cost me £15 for the glass and £20 for the heatgun. Check out youtube for tuts

Call up mobiletechvideo.com. they're located in Texas. They swap out emmc chips in Samsung phones so I would assume they can do screens too unless they can't source them.

I got my note 2 as a gift, but when I received it, the screen near the front camera was cracked out the box. So, called Samsung service centre, they say they wouldnt repair it because it was out of their warranty, and if I wanna fix it, it will cost approximately $200 dollars (converted from Indonesian Rupiah).

[Q] I broke my GSM Galaxy Nexus screen already

I have had vertical banding issues since day 1 with the LCD, and I contemplated returning the phone (to China) because of it. Instead, the seller notified me he'd pay to have the LCD replaced, either in the US at my choice of phone repair stores, or send it back to China and he'd send to a shop to do it. I'd do it myself if I could find a supplier for the LCD/glass digitizer (I have done it on multiple Nokia phones, including a 5800XM). Alas, while finding a suitable repair shop, I cracked the glass.
Am I the first one to drop the Galaxy Nexus? It fell about a foot onto bricks, and now I have a crack in the glass extending from the earpiece to the power button. I called around and I am the first in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area to break their Galaxy Nexus.. great. My case and screen protector haven't even come yet.
Does anybody have any advice on where to go from here? Do I ship the phone back to China (expensive, and I'll be without a phone for 3-4 weeks)? I can't believe I had my Nexus One for two years, dropping it all over the place, and it's still in beautiful shape, while this one has LCD issues from day one, and now cracked glass after a single small fall (that the Nexus has taken many times.. I need to stop driving with the phone in my lap).
done it many times (phone on lap when driving) then forget when i get out and it gets thrown out of the car onto the ground.
many places dont have nexus accessories yet ... ghost armour needs 10 days to even get a screen protector in (they put on a htc sensation cover for now - doesnt even cover the screen itself, let alone the entire from !)
I took a look at the Galaxy Nexus teardown on ifixit. Link HERE.
If you look at steps 6-8 you'll see that popping the screen/digitizer out really isn't too bad at all. The real issue will be finding the screen/digitizer in one piece for a decent price. I looked around on Amazon and EBay and failed at finding any for sale.
However, if you can find a screen/digitizer for under $200 somewhere I would follow the ifixit instructions and change it yourself.
I browsed through the teardown and it doesn't seem like that'd be an issue at all. I have done a fair amount of phone repairs previously, including lcd replacement and smt soldering on the phone's main PCB. The problem is that I can't find anywhere that sells the digitizer/LCD. Looks like it's back to china for this guy.
Yeah I've thrown the N1 out of my lap probably twenty times in the past two years. It's always taken it like a champ. I wish they had used gorilla glass on this phone.
I've dropped my GN twice already, once onto a concrete floor. So far, I've been lucky. Can't find any damage. It's not too reassuring to hear that it will crack so easily, though.
FYI, even Gorilla Glass isn't shatter-proof. Highly scratch resistant, but not shatter-proof. Give it the right point-load, and it will also shatter.
I know that Gorilla Glass isn't shatterproof, but I have seen unspeakable things done to my N1 and nothing has ever come of it. I'm still putting off sending this back to China.. I have a feeling it'll be gone for a month or more.
Ouch Sorry To Here Better Send Back 2 Repair
Mine's fallen from my lap onto pavement twice, getting out of the car of course, but so far my Otterbox Commuter has saved it.

Maybe it’s the new fortified glass design that’s flawed?
Maybe it’s weather related, from indoor to cold outdoors?
Maybe it’s just a bad design overall?
I just want to warn others of it’s extreme fragility.
Maybe it's you, bumping into something hard and pointy?
I've dropped mine twice on ceramic tile from waist height and had no damage other than a couple of scratches on the screen. Maybe it was just a particularly unlucky drop?
lol yeah phone on lap while driving is death for phones.... done that many many many times with too many phones.
update
BestBuy Canada's mobile communications manager Danielle has worked out a 50% off new phone option for me, as their policy they say is no "physically" damaged phones can be returned.
I have asked for an Iphone 4s 64gb in order to resell it and recoup my loss with via the accelerated deprecation screen defect of this galaxy nexus.

I've had my phone for about 2 months or so. Found out the hard way how fragile the glass was when my keys left a few minor scratches on it the second day of use. Well yesterday the hairline crack appeared between the power button and the volume rocker. Samsung says its physical damage caused by dropping the phone or having it in my pocket. What... I can't put my phone in my pocket anymore. Well the long and short of it is I have to send the phone back to the country of origin England in this case and I have to pay for the repair. I'm trying to find the glass assembly so I can replace it my self. So far no luck on Google. I agree with all the comments about the glass being too weak on this phone. Long live the Nexus one which I've switched back to till I figure out how to get this galaxy broken glass fixed.
I've got a broken line on Glass of my Gnex, I hate, very hate, this at only 4 month of usage.
Can i send my Gnex to Samsung and use a Warranty to change it?
This is a genuine question so I'm not trying to get anyone's back up, but is mobile insurance not that popular outside the UK? You can barely leave the stores here without being sold it!

I'm pretty sure phone insurance is popular in a lot of places. Asurion here in the US is only like $2 or $5 a month, with a $100 deductible for any smartphone that has been lost, damaged, etc...

I assumed so, but tend to see a lot of similar posts of damaged or defective phones and no mention of insurance. Always seems to focus on returns or DIY repairs. Just wondered if insurance was particularly costly overseas. Seems not.

In the UK you get either a cash value or a replacement nexus. You would only get a substitute if the goods are no longer on general sale. Usually electronic goods I have claimed on have been cash (minus the excess) to the phones purchase price. Make sure you have advised them and can prove the cost or you may end up with a settlement below the phones true value.
For example, my laptop was worth £500 when new, but I have only insured it for £300 as I know I can get a decent replacement and keep my premiums down. I have my nexus insured for £400 as I know this will buy most new phones outright should I lose it

replacing screen glass

Hi All
had a bit of a mishap this morning and dropped my phone off the couch, normally it would of landed on the floor (carpet) but it bounced off my morning cuppa so i now have an Xperia play with a cracked screen
luckily (sort of anyway) the main chip is on the side and the screen only has 4 very clean cracks across it and it is still perfectly smooth and still works fine
ive looked on ebay and it seems you can get the replacement glass for around £20, my main question is it hard to replace as they all come with some tools and a guide, i am very good with fiddly things so i would be happy doing it but i dont want to waste £20 if it ends up not looking right
so any advice please guys
Sorry I can't give you a link but try to.search youtube on how to.dissamble your xplay model. You need to take the whole phone apart to get to the damn screen. A very long looking process

Check with your carrier and ask about repairs outside of warranty. The carrier I'm with, Rogers, pays a subsidy for repairs that warranty doesn't cover. For example, screen costs 50 bucks at a repair centre, they cover it. Main board costs 150, they make me pay part of it.
Just a shot in the dark, but if a greedy company like Rogers will do that, yours might too.

Hi,
unfortunatly my phone contract is for a Samsung Galaxy S as they didnt have the XP in stock at the time so i took it home sold it on ebay and purchased an XP so i dont think they will help
ive seen the vid on youtube and it seems a long and fiddly process to remove the screen so i think i will pass and come payday sell the cracked one and just buy a good condition new one looking on ebay it will end up costing me less then £50 so its not too bad
Dude, i dont know if is the best thing to do but i disassembled my XP and it is not hard, the only problem that i see is the dusty, it enters on screen and you dont realize, after assembled you will see and cry. Now deppending of the time of use and price i m a candidate to buy your cell . By any way if you decide change by your self take a look on the advice of the Hair Cleaner, it softens the glue that hold the screen.
And do not tighten the screw of the mother board too much, this will save your gamepad.

Need advice with a bad digitizer from ebay

http://db.tt/ANyYkLH1
That link is a video that I filmed with my amaze. I made it to prove to a guy that sold me the digitizer from ebay that I didnt damage it during installation. Basically, I installed the digitizer assembly last week, and I noticed the dead spot when texting a friend, and everytime that I try to type thw S or E key, a W would pop up, and also, while in recovery, I cant select any options that appear in the spot that is, in this video, a horizontal line where the day of the week is displayed on my weather widget in the lock screen.
I informed the guy of this problem, and he offered me $50 partial refund (it cost me $150) or if I can remove the assembly without damaging it, he will exchange it. Here is the problem, if I do damage it in the slightest, not only will he not warranty it out, but I would have to just throw my phone in the trash, because $300 is too much money to pay for just the screen. So I told him that I cant take the chance of removing it if I will be penalized for damaging a defective screen. So I was thinking about sending him that link to show him that the screen is good, the amoled isnt pierced, and the ribbon isnt damaged. I mean, I would know if I damaged the assembly, because I installed it myself, besides, unless he is accusing me of damaging this digitizer/amoled assembly with psychic powers professor x style, he has to know that he is just discouraging me to pursue a refund/exchange. I even offered to send him my phone, so that he can see for himself that its defective, yet not physically damaged before its removed. If he damages it during removal, atleast he will know that it was originally defective when I recieved it, before I ever installed it.
This is doing the same thing that happened to a friend of mine when he didnt line up the lcd to the digitizer, and I paid so much for this assembly for the very comfort of knowing that it was done right. He still insist that he tested that screen before he shipped it (he claims that all digitizer assemblies are tested before being shipped on his ebay page), but from watching the video, atleast in my opinion, its pretty obvious that something is wrong here. I opened a case with ebay, but until june third, I cant escalate the case to ebay, and it says that I should try to work it out by ourselves, but he is stalling and discouraging me. I think this is all bs man. So if anyone has any advice on how to get this situation resolved, please chime in. I am stuck at a stalemate now. Plus, I need my phone fixed. Thanks.

It'll be your word against his on weather you damaged it during install. EBay will probably stay out of it if his feedback on eBay is overall positive.
Afraid it sounds to me like your best option is to remove it carefully and go for the exchange. Or take his 50 and cut your losses.
Sorry, but that is how I see it going. If he has a solid eBay reputation, they aren't gonna force him to do anything.

Yea, thats why I went with him, because his reputation is 99.1%, where mine is a 100%, but I only purchased items, so its really hard to get negative feedback from purchasing anything on ebay when all of your purchases are the buy now type, and your payment isnt declined.
So, what if I do remove the display without damaging it, could I send it to someone at ebay first to independantly verify that its a defect and not physical damage? Do you think that my video will suffice for evidence that no physical damage has occured? I mean, look, the screen displays fine, which these are so sensitive that if I pierced the amoled display, it wouldnt light up right? Then the glass, its not cracked, not even a scratch, so surely no physical damage there. The third possibility that he listed was a torn ribbon, but again, as I am typing this up on the phone now, if I tore the ribbon by installing it, surely it would either work, or not work right? I am not an expert, so my only recourse is applying logic using common sense.
What bothers me is that he knows that I bought this assembly to permamently install it, its not like removing a sim card. I am going to write him back and link him to the video right now. I dont know what else to say.
Well, I hope it works out for you. I just can't see eBay doing anything about it....and if they were gonna, probably take forever.

The guy told me that he doesnt want to separate the screen because if the cable rips, he cant prove that it wasnt already like that. I don't know, I just can't believe that there isn't a solution for this kind of problem. I need some objectivity here, am I just being paranoid? Its so easy to break these things, and if I damage it pulling it out, I wont get a refund or exchange, and if he would have really tested this thing, then I wouldnt have recieved a defective digitizer, and I would have no reason to remove it. Thats what really bothers me, I shouldn't even have this problem, but then again (might as well admit it before someone else says it), life isnt fair.
By the way, the guy said to process my refund or exchange by clicking on that link above, but ebay says not to respond if there is an offer to complete a transaction outside of ebay. I clicked on the link and saw the ebay logo, but the words are really fuzzy and I cant make em out. Anyone ever seen a page like this? Is this what the official ebay return page looks like? I cant get used to the screen like this, so if I have to accept the $50, then essentially I just lost $100 because I will have to buy another one, or sell this thing for $450 to be fiscally neutral. Thanks for answering back, I dont have much experience with ebay.
If it were me.. I would do a partial return and get the 50.
I don't know how hard it is to take the digitizer off but my past experience with ebay related purchases are never great. If you do manage to get it off without damaging it I'm sure he might even throw up the excuse that it is damaged on his end, and you will have to do an insurance claim through whoever did the shipment.
Speaking on the ebay site, that is definitely not a legit ebay affiliated site.
It's probably his own site use to track his sales and whatnot. I would say it's fine to use but dont put any personal information into it.
That first portal with item # and your ID seems ok to put in, but I wouldnt do any passwords or **** like that.

I have no clue how this guy has such a good reputation, I mean, does that short video clip not demonstrate that the glass doesnt have a single scratch, much less any cracks, the amoled display is perfect, so I obviously didnt pierce the display, and well, I dont think that the screen would show any sign of life if I tore the cable. He is pulling sneaky tricks to avoid refunding my money. I dont even want an exchange from him, because I don't want to deal with this type of situation. I have to wait until June 3rd to escalate to ebay, and I am going to stand my ground.
Hell, I really dont have a choice, it says right above his message that if I complete any transaction outside of ebay, I forfeit my buyer protection from ebay.
Thanks to everyone who responded to my thread, ebay sided with me, and told me to send the item back, and I would get a full refund, so I printed the shipping label that they supplied me, and I tried to be careful removing it, packed it up and shipped it last thursday, and just a few hours ago, it was delivered, ebay refunded the money to my prepaid credit card. So while I wait for the funds to post, im wondering, should I just keep the money, and just sell the phone without a screen, or is it worth ordering a digitizer from a different guy and try it again? You think that I could get any money for the motherboard and all of the pieces, or should I just put it back together and sell my htc amaze (what im using atm)? Thanks again for the advice!

Me ... for the money I would look online for a used one in your local area, online classifieds, etc. At least then if there's an obvious problem you can see it before handing over cash. I don't know about your area but the S2's come up pretty regularly where I'm at in the $125-200 price range. Everyone is onto the S3/4 band wagon. With your current phone ... if nothing else you'll have a spare for parts.

I live in jacksonville, florida, and typically s2's go for atleast $200-$225, sometimes even $275 if the screen and bezel don't have a bunch of scratches, so I have been looking online for those digitizers that include the midframe, and they are around $175, but it seems pike all that I have to do at this point is transfer the motherboard, front facing camera and earpiece/mic jack, and it would be mint. I just sanded down the bezel since it was all apart, and what a pita to get that chrome off, and make it all look uniform!
Btw, whats up with the led for the charging light? I never noticed it light up when I plugged it into charge. My htc amaze shines green when fully charged, and orange when charging. I already read that we dont have a notification led, but I see these tiny little round crystal looking dots next to the front facing camera, but no ribbon coming off of them, are those just samsung ricing out their phones like a civic with an exhuast tip?
I thought those were sensors.

[Q] Worrying Samsung repair service experience.

So,
Just got off the phone with Samsung customer services, and I've got to say it left me worried about the competence of their "engineers". There's a single hairline split on the glass originating at the receiver aperture. Fair cop, I can see why they would want to charge for that at first glance. However, according to them, the crack has damaged the LCD panel causing it to leak onto the main circuit board and damage that..... Couple of problems with that - it doesn't have an LCD panel, it's OLED. Nor will an LCD (or an OLED) "leak" even when damaged. And finally, the main board is not damaged and is working 100% perfectly. Is this level of utter, utter incompetence, technical ineptitude and fraudulent behaviour normal for Samsung, or is it just Regenersis? What's been your experience with either? Have I just been unlucky, or are they better than this? What are my options, as they gave me none. Apparently their "engineers" are "highly trained" and their judgement cannot be over-ruled....
Cheers
Previously I was having Galaxy Fit and got my lock button damage somehow when I give them to repair they return it after 3 days and with no screws inside
I have no idea why such hurry then I mailed on customer support then they called and apologise on behalf and said to give phone again to service centre.

When I lost my IMEI, first thing I did was to take it to the Samsung customer service, they took my phone inside and after about 5 minutes one of the stuff came back with the phone in the hand and told me that they have to change the entire motherboard and that will cost me $370 USD.!!
Something that I did it by myself and for free after googling around for couple of weeks or so and restored back my IMEI.
They also bent me over. Sent mine for repair, they charged me a rediculous ammount and then sent back somebody elses phone.
I'm anal when it comes to my phone, mine are always kept pristine. I knew as soon as I opened the JIFFY BAG (unprotected inside) that this wasn't my phone. The one they sent back was battered as hell. They swore it was mine and lucky for me I still had the original reciept that had the IMIE on it. When I sent them that they conceded and "found" mine. Then when I got mine back there were pick marks around the bezel where they had opened it. I'm not a happy buuny. The stories and lies I heard over the phone were incredible.
Love the phone.... don't trust the repair centre.
To add insult to loss all told I had to drive an accumulated 120 miles to and from the authorized repair centre.... which couldn't carry out the repair so they sent it off anyway.

Cracked Screen? Repairing the Samsung Galaxy TabPro 8.4 LTE (SM-T325)

Hey guys, I bought the Samsung Galaxy TabPro 8.4 LTE variant (SM-T325) and unfortunately, just after 2 weeks of use, my friend dropped it and cracked the screen and scratched the bezels. I live in the UK and I bought this tab online. I know dropping the tab is out of warranty and I have to pay for the damages but I have contacted Samsung which they referred me to some of their repair centres but with no hope as they couldn't replace/repair the damage because my tab is the LTE variant and it's not of European Region.
I'm pretty pissed that my beautiful TabPro 8.4 is cracked and I'd do anything to fix it.
I just want to ask you guys for advice on how I should fix my tab if official samsung repair centres here can't do it because they don't have the parts? Or is my best bet taking it to a repair centre in Asia (where it's most likely from)?
Thank you if anyone replies ;_;
Not good when you crack your screen
The only and best advice i can give you is check Ebay, look up LCD & Digitizer for Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 LTE, you should find it there. The best of luck Buddy..

I hate that it happened to u too but if all u did was crack the digitizer glass then consider yourself lucky because that part can be found all over the internet for as low as $40 (i'll link to a site below but as the user above said they are also on ebay...although for a higher price)...how about I also have the lte version BUT I broke the actual lcd display and somehow managed NOT to shatter the glass (weird but true). The crazy thing is I didn't even drop it...just picked it up and it was cracked/bleeding inside...not even sure if its something I did & not looking forward to arguing with Samsung about it either not to even mention the fact that's its actually a hong kong unit. The ironic part is I actually fix these things for a living but I cant find the screen anywhere online yet...if u decide to get rid of it for whatever reason then I would be willing to purchase the lcd from u (assuming u didn't break both screens) for a reasonable price & in order to help u make your money back. I could also part it out & put it on ebay for u...the motherboard alone should get a pretty penny

Thanks guys for replying, I totally appreciate it but yeah, my LCD itself isn't broken, just the glass so the touch screen digitizer is what I need. However, if I buy from eBay or from the given link, will the glass be of the same quality/made from the same thing? Cause the touch screen glass on the TabPro 8.4 feels so smooth and not cheap so I don't really wanna change that :/
And also, do you guys now if they sell the bezels? since they scratched too
Thanks again!
Wow.
Im sorry to read the situation the both of you are in, as for the first post i replied to i did mention the LCD & Digitizer, however doing the research on Ebay the Digitizer Cant be found, that really sucks, just makes me MUCH MORE aware of NOT dropping my device, they do feel really light a delicate, with that said I love watching movies on it in 1080p, the clarity is unbelievable. I'm loving this device, But on the other hand there isn't any development for it out, really sucks cause i was looking to switch it to the Google Addition of Android.. Or if a developer can cook up a Custom Rom from the S5 Operating System that would be SICKKK... That how i have my Note 3 running, exactly like the S5, its hottt... the best of Luck to you both, hope it works out. BLESS..!!

I actually replied to your thread about custom roms with something I was working on before the incident happened...its an extremely basic test build so its probably no where near what u want (no s5 setup) but if u want to test it out I posted the link in the other thread. I wish it was just my glass that was broken right now because it would already be fixed....I was able to find the digitizers on ebay althought there are only a few listings I'll post the lowest link below
EDIT: nevermind...probably should have checked my pm first. As far as the selinux function...if u go to "settings-general-about device" and scroll down to the very bottom u should see "se for android device" which will probably say "enforcing" although hopefully it will be set to "permissive" which would allow us to connect NTFS(WINDOWS) formatted hard drives to our device as well as other things

@Zakanam as for the quality of the part as far as I know most lcds are factory originals while most digitizers are usually aftermarket reproductions although I haven't EVER had an issue with any I've replaced as far as registering touches or smoothness. As I stated above device repair is part of what I do for a living although i'll admit I may have just been lucky...u will most likely have to wait until someone puts an 8.4 up for parts on ebay before u can find the bezels however I hope this helps

^CHEAPEST DIGITIZER ON EBAY
Does anyone know where I can buy the OEM backplate and possibly the cheap silver trim between the backplate and the screen?
I wrote a review on Amazon about what happened under the same name. Got nowhere with Samsung support, while looking for parts I found this post. Figured someone here may know.

In the same predicament. The lcd display on my 8.4 LTE T325 is broken, but the digitizer still recognizes touch. Finding a replacement screen is a pain, especially in the UK. Only quote I've managed to get is for £169, which is more than what I paid for it on ebay....decisions decisions...

Similar situation when I broke the screen on my Note 8. While glass was available at a reasonable price, the process to get it unglued from the digitizer looked too involved for me. The price for screen + digitizer was similar to the price of buying a new Note 8. So my solution . . . was to buy the Pro 8.4!

Lol. My solution was to buy the tab S 8.4 LTE. Still wondering whether it's worth fixing the tab pro or not
Hello, i broke my lcd a week after buying it and found only one place that has the digitizer and lcd as one unit. Its costly! $159.00 + $10.00 shipping from Singapore! here is the link
http://www.parts4repair.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-pro-8-4-t320-parts/
I did it on mine but proly could have found a new tablet for the cost! The repair was very easy.
Hi I have a similar problem but with a different tablet thr tab 4 7 inch which does not have gorilla glass so whatever glass is put in it does the tabpro have gorilla glass?
Anyway 2 days after buying it I sat on my tab 4 by accident while it was sitting in its box on my bed, the tablet just sunk to 1 side and collapsed in the box so I am hoping I didn't do any damage. Ive been so worried about it when I look at the screen and lcd thrre is no damage or cracks I can see is it possible the lcd at thr back of it cluld be cracked? Or is it pretty obvious if it is cracked?
Looking at youtube for vids I see cracked screens but if thr lcd is cracked even just a little bit will it show?
I put thr tablet back in thr box an d pushed down on it with my fingers to try to see how mufh pressure it takes to collapse in the box again..and I heard a crack sound im so stupid..I don't see any damage still and I think the crack sound was from the see through plastic sheet inside rhe box and the cardboard pressing dosn against it.
If I dont see any cracks or damage to thr lcd is it most likely ok? Im so paranoid now. Maybe I should return it just ij case and get a replacement seeing as I am in my 28 day returns period
Is it safe to assume if I can't see any cracks its unlikely to br damaged?
i may say had a bad luck when buying online via lazada.my , CANT claim warranty . still under warranty, not caused by dropping, its factory defect.. sent to singapore but not fixed, send to local seller and returned back. this is my timeline https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DD4dz3VTUs
no choice i gotta put aside till have enough money by myself. looking at aliexpress and dhgate, price still beyond my budget
fyi, aliexpress and dhgate i had good purchase track record
please watch and spread this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DD4dz3VTUs
price complete set http://www.aliexpress.com/item/For-...2272498413.html?spm=2114.32010308.5.11.WBmYM2
might be mean but if your friend dropped it, he should be paying
this happened to me to, but about a month, and a half latter.
THE ONLY ADVICE I would give you is to go take it somewhere and get it fixed by a professional. If you follow that one YouTube Video, all your going to manage is cracking the Actual Display underneath the Glass. As it is these pieces are fused and, are essentially one unit. While it might be possible to just replace the Glass. It's doubtfull that finding the right fixer (i.e. Glue) would-be that simple. It also (to me) seems like the Tab Pro also has a thin polarising film between the Glass and the LCD display. Which was too easily damaged with the String technique. Not so much a problem if you have an extra 50.00€ for a pack of 25 Strips @ 8.4"
About your best option is to locate the next Samsung Depot (for myself that would be in the Netherlands), and they want ca. ~120.00€ (Before Tax!), for a replacement unit. (i.e. the Touchscreen + LCD + Frame. e.g. more like 169~€ by the time you work out shipping & tax.
Having a thought about it... It was just cheaper in the end to by a totally new neused Device. Which then set me back a 175.00€.
but those Displays from Fleebay, are as I gather chepo counterfeit Chinese Displays which are not as good as the original ones. Be that as it may... I'd have yet to find one that came with the Frame (i.e. with the Home Button.), cause for ~115€ they sure don't, and again you'd have to figure out how to reglue that bit without destroying the new Display.

My guess is your supposed to recycle the Backplate from the Original Screen. I guess getting it off the old one may be one thing. But how you'd go about regluing it back to the new Screen is to me questionable.
The 'Silver' bit is the rear cover. So One would think you already had that bit. in fact it's between this and the Glass Panel where you need to take a thin but very stiff like a Driver's License. To pry open the Device.
Again the best way to go is either though Samsung Direct, or one of its other partners.
It would also be helpful to know the Part Nr. Which are:
GH97-15740A (White)
GH97-1574B (Black)
Needless to say at those prices... You may well be better off buying a whole new Device.
I have an excellent condition digitizer but the glass is cracked. If wants to buy it they will have to remove the glass. Its from a T705
I too have a replacementWhite Digitizer Screen (White), still in the Envelope it came in with. Which I bought in a panic, after having also dropped my first T325. T_T.
Unless your very skilled, or know someone who is, at removing said Damaged Digitizer. I would forget this exercise. As you will at the least of it damage the Polarising Filter (Between the Digitizer, and the LCD Display), and at worst actually damage the LCD Display.
Having replaced a few Chinese Devices with their cheap plastic Digitizers is nothing like the way Samsung have done it. Unfortunately both the Digitizer, and the LCD have been fused together, as One unit. Again with a sandwiched Polarising Filter in the Middle.
There have been some Videos of People fixing the T320 that way, but the T320 doesn't have a Speaker Grill on it either. When I tried it on m, first One, the Dental Floss kept getting caught on it, an eventually damaged the underlying Filter (Which if you had done this would appear as just White Light.) Eventually in that game of tug, and war the LCD completely disintegrated.
I eventually found the Part Number (from a Samsung Tech Manual) p, and was able to locate two possible locations from which to order a replacement Screen from. Samsung in the Netherlands, and some other 3'erd Party from Poland. But either way you were looking at about 160€'s before Postage, and VAT (e.g. Sales Tax, which was higher in the NL). Making a total replacement, both simplier, and more cost effective.
Did you try heating it up like in the videos? I think the key is getting the glue loosened up
