Has anyone had to replace the screen on their evo? Roundabout how much did it cost? Im trying to figure out whether to fix the screen on my phone or just get a new phone all together.
I got a replacement on Amazkn for like $28, and it wasn't too hard to replace. Just be careful with the other wires in the phone.

Well I got very lucky. The screen on my device started forming a very noticeable white spot in the middle, took it to Sprint and they replacee it for free. I also got the ear piece and the speaker replaced at no charge. All I did was call ahead and set up an appointment.
Prices can vary on eBay, but I just replaced my wife's Evo LCD, and Touch Digitizer. I got both parts preassembled for about $50. For instructions I went to ifixit.com and searched for HTC Evo, but it only took me 20 minutes total.
like others have mentioned, its not difficult at all. Their is a video on you tube telling you exactly how to do it. I think total with the tools and screen replacement total was around $35.

Any suggestions on how to go about fixing/repairing it?
Screen and buttons seem top be fine, just the glass that needs fixing.
Would live to great some success stories on the same. I need my evo healthy!

Just replace it yourself.
I replaced the glass and digitizer on an iPhone 3g once and it was pretty easy. I just had to pull off the glass with a suction cup and the pull out any pieces of the cracked glass (heat gun or hair dryer helps alot) then connect the ribbon and place the new glass on by peeling off the paper backing and placing it on the frame. They have adhesive on the back so no gluing or anything like that. The Evo's look like they work the exact same way and the replacements can be found on ebay for $26
I tried to post the link for ebay but it would let me. Just search it.
the evo has the screen, bezel, lcd, and digitizer all in one component, so it should be a little harder. i've never done it, but i think you unscrew the torex screws under the battery cover, then just pull off the screen/bezel/lcd/digitizer.
Why not see if the store will still repair it for $35 like they were doing not too long ago?
Checked with Sprint Store, they said they no longer do screen repairs. My only recourse with them would be to buy a new EVO at retail, since I dont have a protection plan.
I found a cell repair store at the mall that will do it for $100, and guarantee their work.
I also found replacement parts for as cheap as $45, there are also youtube videos showing how to disassemble the beast. And I do mean disassemble, you have to take it basically completely apart to get at the screen, thanks to how the bezel works. Would also need to purchase a T5 torx head screw driver. It doesn't look to be too hard, but its definitely not something I would ever want to screw up.
All things considered, I'll go for warrantied work at the mall shop. But just wanted to post my findings for anyone else searching for this in the future.
They no longer do screen repairs period? So if u have TEP and come in with a broken screen, do they order you a free refurb, or make you go through Assurion for $100?
If they replace it free under warranty and your cool with a refurb, just add TEP on your line. All you need to do is activate any Sprint phone on your line. Call in and add TEP to your line. Then swap bacj to the EVO use it for 2 days and take it in for repair.
That's all I did, when I wanted the screen repaired on my old TP2 before I sold it. Activated, added TEP, took it in and got a refurb 2 days later. Of course, this is if you want a refurb and if they will replace it free.

Sprint will tell you to go through Asurion. I just had to do this recently, but I was fortunate enough to get a brand new phone from them instead of a refurb.
OP = Replacing parts is not as easy as you see in the Youtube videos. You can't tell if the LCD is cracked along with the digitizer until you take it apart, so you may need the LCD and not know it. The LCD/digitizer combo will run you $60-$70, so if the mall will fix it for $100 with parts, labor and warranty, I would go that route, too.

I know I seem to be advertising a lot lol but for cheaper than that I can sell you the LCD and digitizer all together already pre put together with the plastic direct form htc manufacturing...like I told ruge as he probably remembers things may not be so easy as thought out before you attempt it, stupid things can go wrong and you can end up wasting your money
Does anyone have some recommendations on a good screen repair kit for me?
My 1 year old just scratched the screen up real good when I left my phone on our coffee table.
Its still usable but annoying to have scratches in it.

See if there is a Sprint repair center nearby. Stop in and see what they say, sometimes they can swap screens from other phones they're sending back, as long as they're not "Damaged beyond Repair".
Thanks for the info. I'll look into that option.

Another option is simply ghost armor, just do the screen protector. They're by far the best protectors I've seen on many levels n do wonders to existing scratches. Try n find a store n at least let them show you n you can decide

Its a $100 deductible if you have the TEP plan. If ypu have a bricked device and no insurance, sprint will do a warranty exchange for $35. I know, i had a photon and had to do this twice. The second time, i got a et4g.
But please dont go bricking a device just to get a replacement screen.
whoa whoa whoa, i hope thats for a bricked phone with no tep only, because ive had 6 or so cracked screens over the last 2-3 they've absolutely REFUSED to fix without going thru asuiron

Corning never claimed it was scratch proof. If that were the case there would be many lawsuits.
As quoted from their site:
" Gorilla Glass features exceptional damage resistance to the scratches, drops, and bumps of everyday use"

whoa take it easy... it is an definitley an option just not one that all tech centers will do there are plenty of techs who root and play with there devices as we do on here and they all seem to be a lil more sympathetic to our problems then there are the older techs who believe they went to school a billion years to make a phone work as the manifacture intended lol.
ok now for a useful helpful tip... If you have an mechanical skills and some patience you can get a screen off the web for a decent price and swap it yourself there are 3 screws on the mother board and I believe 3-4 lil plugs that you need to unplug but BE Careful as these are thin and the life of our device other than that its butter and to make it even easier they are actual philips head instead of some torqe bit or allen.
Well hope that helps and if you decide to do it and want a step let me know Ill shoot you some pics

This is very common confusion so let me clear it up for you:
Sprint repairs phones which have issues caused by manufacturing defects. The same things that Samsung (or whatever OEM) would cover in their device warranty. (e.g. the headphone jack stopped working for no reason. Really any failure that can in no way be attributed to the owner doing something to cause it). You cannot convince a repair tech that your screen has scratches on it due to a manufacturing defect - just not a reasonable thing unless you bought it the same day and show them the scratches before you left the store they will have to assume you scratched it.
Cost: Free if you have TEP or $35 if you don't have TEP.
Assurion covers phone replacement for ANY reason. (E.g. you spilled coffee on it, you bricked it with a bad flash, you lost it in a bar)
Cost: $100 (deductible)

Yeah the two parts are fused together. I read some stuff about cheap/fake gorrila glass units on ebay so I sent mine straight to Samsung for repair. Cost 180$ including shipping to and from. Even the "oem" screen digitizers cost 200–300 on Amazon or cell repair sites.

Yeah it took a good week. It looks and feels like brand new. They even replaced the button at the bottom. And about the comment of just getting good a refurbished one in return... Check your serial afterward. I got my original phone back. And to folks who offer to fix these my main concern is genuine oem parts. Some ppl have said after they fix there's the phone simply doesn't feel like it's oem state.
Dose anyone know if I can replace only the digitizer?? All the tutorials I see online is replacement of LCD and Digitizer..
Digitizers are $25 on ebay Digitizer and LCDs are over $200...
After further investigation I found out why you can't replace just the glass..

Samsung Galaxy S3 Screen Repair
Acutally there are several tutorials on just replacing the screen. It is a bit tedious and will require patience but is very doable. From all I see, the outer metal/chrome/etc frame is part of the digitizer is and will not be part of the screen only replacement. Screen assemblies alone are around $30 on Ebay

the price for the replace screen is so expensive
YOU CANNOT JUST REPLACE THE GLASS OR JUST REPLACE THE LCD! THEY ARE FUSED TOGETHER!
IN ORDER TO UNFUSE THEM YOU NEED AN OVEN DESIGNED JUST FOR THAT DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO IT ON YOUR OWN!
Buying just the glass is a scam and will not work!!!!!!!! YOU MUST BUY THE GLASS WITH THE LCD FUSED TO IT ALREADY!
I have an LS970 and I recently dropped it pretty hard onto a desk. The bottom quarter of the screen stopped working after the drop along with the capacitive touch buttons at the bottom. I was able to deal with this but today when I sat on the couch my phone fell again and a crack went down the middle of the digitizer. Now only some areas work and I am not able to unlock it. Before I buy a new digitizer and lcd I want to know if it could have also been main board issues that made the bottom part of the screen not work since no cracks appeared after dropping it on a desk. Thanks

It's the digitizer. I have a wonderful wife whom I love very much who has broken her screen three times. Each time that the screen broke, the digitizer went with it. It has to do with the fact that there is essentially no separation between the two on our phones, so drops that damage the screen almost always damage the digitizer.

I just picked up a broken LG Optimus G off craigslist and toward the bottom of the screen it has a hairline crack. Also the capacitive buttons do not work either....my problem sounds exactly like the OP.
Can anyone suggest a good place to buy a cheap digitizer/glass/ LCD?? I'm lookin on ebay and they seem to be about $80
Thanks,
Kevin
I've been looking around ebay too and they're all about 80 for the cheapest. I checked out a few phone repair websites and prices are much higher there. If you find anything cheaper let me know. I plan on buying it soon.
EDIT: The best I found on ebay was 78 was from the US and 69 from China. I know they are all from china but it's just a shipping time thing.

Based on the dialogue I had when my wife's screen broke not only with the insurance carrier but also a repair shop, replacing the screen or digitizer on this phone is always going to be very expensive because both parts almost always have to be replaced together. $80 sounds very inexpensive to me based on those conversations.

Just a few days ago there was a guy looking for digitizer only... So, I'll just quote myself.
As was written on iFixit
The front glass is adhered to the display frame, meaning you'll need a heat gun to get the LCD out—or replace the whole front panel.

The all above is true unless you have a heat gun or someone who has it and knows what to do. In service center, I think, they'll just replace the whole front panel with glass and LCD.
It's possible to replace one without replacing the other. However, they are initially stuck together and separating them is a pain and sort of difficult if you are not familiar with these types of repair. Our repair centers, indeed, replace the entire assembly.
I went ahead and ordered the LCD+digitizer from repairs universe.. should arrive in a day or two. $200 man, I essentially spent almost $500 on this tablet, but I love it, so I guess it's worth it.
