Does anyone have some recommendations on a good screen repair kit for me?
My 1 year old just scratched the screen up real good when I left my phone on our coffee table.
Its still usable but annoying to have scratches in it.

See if there is a Sprint repair center nearby. Stop in and see what they say, sometimes they can swap screens from other phones they're sending back, as long as they're not "Damaged beyond Repair".
Thanks for the info. I'll look into that option.

Another option is simply ghost armor, just do the screen protector. They're by far the best protectors I've seen on many levels n do wonders to existing scratches. Try n find a store n at least let them show you n you can decide

Its a $100 deductible if you have the TEP plan. If ypu have a bricked device and no insurance, sprint will do a warranty exchange for $35. I know, i had a photon and had to do this twice. The second time, i got a et4g.
But please dont go bricking a device just to get a replacement screen.
whoa whoa whoa, i hope thats for a bricked phone with no tep only, because ive had 6 or so cracked screens over the last 2-3 they've absolutely REFUSED to fix without going thru asuiron

Corning never claimed it was scratch proof. If that were the case there would be many lawsuits.
As quoted from their site:
" Gorilla Glass features exceptional damage resistance to the scratches, drops, and bumps of everyday use"

whoa take it easy... it is an definitley an option just not one that all tech centers will do there are plenty of techs who root and play with there devices as we do on here and they all seem to be a lil more sympathetic to our problems then there are the older techs who believe they went to school a billion years to make a phone work as the manifacture intended lol.
ok now for a useful helpful tip... If you have an mechanical skills and some patience you can get a screen off the web for a decent price and swap it yourself there are 3 screws on the mother board and I believe 3-4 lil plugs that you need to unplug but BE Careful as these are thin and the life of our device other than that its butter and to make it even easier they are actual philips head instead of some torqe bit or allen.
Well hope that helps and if you decide to do it and want a step let me know Ill shoot you some pics

This is very common confusion so let me clear it up for you:
Sprint repairs phones which have issues caused by manufacturing defects. The same things that Samsung (or whatever OEM) would cover in their device warranty. (e.g. the headphone jack stopped working for no reason. Really any failure that can in no way be attributed to the owner doing something to cause it). You cannot convince a repair tech that your screen has scratches on it due to a manufacturing defect - just not a reasonable thing unless you bought it the same day and show them the scratches before you left the store they will have to assume you scratched it.
Cost: Free if you have TEP or $35 if you don't have TEP.
Assurion covers phone replacement for ANY reason. (E.g. you spilled coffee on it, you bricked it with a bad flash, you lost it in a bar)
Cost: $100 (deductible)

They don't just give you a new one or refurbished one. If all he has is a broken digitizer and LCD they can replace that. They usually carry 003 and older parts in stock. If the damage is beyond repair then they might give him a refurb but not without verifying that the phone is repairable.

Maybe. Not sure about the water damaged ones. But I would suggest buying it keeping on the account for a while then taking it to get repaired. You don't want to raise suspicion and then have sprint cut the repair policy.

Thanks for this post. My screen broke yesterday. I was running upstairs to my apartment with the phone in my hands and I tripped and had to brace myself with my hands. I didn't even know the phone was broken till a few minutes later when my gf saw it.
I'm so glad Sprint will fix it for $35 I thought I was going to have to wait a month at least to save up @$100 and buy a replacement screen. At $35 I'll have it fixed next paycheck or maybe the next one cause of xmas.

You are going to have a tough time replacing the screen. The advantage of amoled screens is they are fused to the glass, meaning no annoying dust under the glass that plagues LCD screens.
The downside is, if you crack it, you pretty much have to replace to whole phone.

You don't have to replace the entire phone. It's not really a complicated repair, but getting the part can be difficult since this phone is so new.

Agreed. I can't tell you how many people come into my repair shop kicking themselves for not buying the insurance.
If you have a friend that's a Sprint technician, ask him to harvest a screen from a 14 day exchange phone.
Dropped my GSIII face-down on concrete Saturday morning....phone didn't bounce. When I picked it up, majority of the screen is cracked, much more near the bottom...however there are no scuff marks along the sides and back....and the touchscreen and phone still work. After I get back from vacation, which will be 10/27, I will more than likely buy another one. So after I do that, how much should I expect to get for my current one if I put it up for sale?
ive seen a lot of cracked gs3 for around 250 but never more than 300.

idk that seems a little ..Keep in mind your looking at ~$300 to replace the screen alone. id be happy walkin away with $150 200 max

Ill give you $150 for it.
dont sell that thing for less than $225-250.
if you look hard enough you can find a replacement screen+digitizer+entire front assembly for $100-150, then you can just fix the phone yourself. Thats what I did when my screen broke, and I have pretty much zero technical expertise and confidence fixing things. It really is that easy replacing the screen yourself if you buy the whole front assembly including digitizer.
Here's a bunch for $150 ---this is all you need to fix your busted screen!

I'm going on vacation tomorrow...will decide what to do when I get back.
I broke my inner screen (display), not the outer glass, somehow.
Walked into sprint repair store.
Gave them phone
Came back an hour later with it working perfectly and they only charged my $37.
Might be worth a try.
They had a defective GS3 laying around to swap out the screen or change out the guts of the phone. I visited a Sprint store and they said they could do it for $35, but put me on a waiting list until they get a returned GS3.
hmm got lucky I guess.
But thats what I'd do instead of taking a massive loss and selling it for $150 or something
If its only the glass and nor display you can buy a replacement for $40 bucks and change it yourself

Well, I got stuck in a hailstorm in GA yesterday. I ended up Sprinting (ha get it?) to my car and the phone fell out of my pocket. I actually didn't realize it until moments later. I found it in a river flowing through the parking lot. Fortunately, the glass was the only thing damaged. LCD still works perfectly. No water damage either! Not sure if it was the fall or a hailstone that did the damage to the glass. I have Sprint TEP (just signed up through open enrollment this month thankfully). However, I am confident that I can do the repair myself. My question is this...
Is the image quality noticeably diminished by replacing the screen with a non-OEM screen? I know it wont be Gorilla Glass 2 and it won't have the proper LOCA adhesive between the glass and the digitizer. I am happy to pay the $150 deductible if the image quality and gorilla glass are worth it. Has anyone replaced their own screen who can attest to the display quality before and after? Thoughts on whether I should replace it myself or file a claim with Asurion?

If you found it in a river, I'd be a bit more concerned about water damage. It still turns on/runs fine and the screen is just cracked? Or is it not turning on?
I know that the screen used to run for about $100. For me, I'd probably prefer to have a refurbished phone than try to do the repair myself. For me, the $50 more is worth the saving of trouble/time/risk of screwing up the install.
But I know of some people on XDA who have installed it themselves and have loved it, so it might be worth it.

It looks like I can get all the equipment needed to do the replacement myself for around $50. I am confident I can do the replacement. I am just worried about the image quality since I wont be using an autoclave + LOCA. Also, the lack of Gorilla Glass 2 would be somewhat of a deterrent. Not sure if these are valid concerns and worth the $150 deductible though. Hoping others who have done the replacement will chime in as well.

I have done all of this so far. Definitely think I can do the replacement myself, but I'm more concerned with image quality afterwards. The new screen isn't GG2 and it wont be bonded to the underlying digitizer. From what I understand, this diminishes image quality slightly. Anyone notice if that's true? If so, to what extent?
Also, does anyone know what this will do to my TEP? Would it invalidate any future repairs?

Update: I spoke with a representative at a Sprint store that I used to visit when I had an Evo 4g. They put my name on a list to replace the screen (free of charge since I have TEP) when someone comes in with a working screen. This is unlike any other Sprint store I've called. I'm not sure it's typical service, but hopefully it pans out! It's a third party official service center, so I guess they aren't bound by the same rules Sprint stores go by?
Samsung charged $190 to fix the screen, the touch screen and everything were working fine but the screen broke.Did anyone get the screen fixed for less? I shopped around locally bu they quoted 350 $...lol..

If brave enough they sell just the glass online for around $20. But you have to heat the phone up enough to melt the adhesive and separate the digitizer and glass. I'm not brave enough to try it myself though. There are videos on YouTube showing how but looks to hard for me to even attempt. Other than that I haven't found a cheaper alternative. Cracked mine about a month ago. $200 for a fix through insurance and $200 for a replacement online.
Wish i knew the glass was only 20 bucks i would have certainly went that rout. I brake mine on Saturday, and bought the glass with the digitizer for 229.00 i didnt have any insurance and i was getting the same 350 and up repair cost when i called around.
so mine screen with digitizer will be here to tomorrow, should be a simple fix.
Here is one for $13.99

I wouldn't be pissed they didn't mention the downside to doing this you will not have the oem glue so the display wont stick like oem there is a high chance you will have dust under the display also the phone will become randomly unresponsive this is my experience from the gs3 glass replacement as for many others

for everyone on this page, the reason the repair price is that way it is is because since the phone is oow by condition you have to cover the shipping, parts and labor.
since samsung is a "all or nothing repair center" even though both screen were not broken, they are going to replace both screens and any other internal parts that have been damaged to prevent shipping back a device that is defective.
after the repair the device will be placed back into full warranty or if it was out of warranty by date when sent in it will be put into a 90 day extended warranty from the time you recieved the device back from repair.
also if you attempt a repair at home and manage to damage the device and after evaluation the device is labeled BER or beyond repair your devices imei will be added to a list and no repair will be able to be made to it.
as for the number to contact for repairs, call 1-888-987-4357 and theyll be happy to help you with a price quote and possible repair.
hope this helps clear some stuff up, have a great day guys!
