I dont know what it could be. Im using htc #15 kernel on mikfroyo 4.1.6. I just wanted to see if anyone has a fix before i decide to take it in. I really dont want to.. if they decide to replace it, they will give me a refub. I dont want a refub...

I have the same problem and also do not want a refurb, it is most likely due to the fact that the camera is loose-try phisically pushing the camera in and that should fix it. i took it to a sprint repair and they did something and it was fine for a while and started again. so every time it starts i just push it in.thats probably all they did!
Does your front face camera take up half of the screen instead of the whole screen? My front face camera is blurry and greenish and its not even full screen.

I tried that.. it didn't work.

They probaly wont do nothing cause you rooted and flashed a rom. It voids the warranty.

I bought an evo on release date and it had a few problems so I took it back and got a new one. About 2 hours after I got my new one home I heard it making a really fast clicking/tapping sound. (click click click tap tap tap) I thought the sound was coming from my speaker so I put it up to my ear after a few seconds I looked at the speaker and noticed that it wasnt the speaker but that it was the camera. I could see the lens physically moving back and forth really fast. Naturally I started the camera app to see what would happen. I snapped a picture and noticed that it was very blurry. I then went to camera settings and changed them and its still very blurry. Its almost as if the camera just refused to focus (looked like I needed glasses)... Naturally, the next step I took was to try to record a video... Same thing very blurry but sound is perfect. Next I tried the front facing camera. It was fine.
I have tried re-starting it a bunch of times... tried cleaning the lens...
About 4 or 5 hours later I took another picture and it was fine. Now the problem is intermittent and if I take 10 pictures 3 or 4 will be in focus and the others wont.
1. My phone is not rooted
2. I have not dropped it
3. It has not gotten wet.
4. Babied it the whole time I've had it.
5. Tried turning off auto focus and using manual
Any suggestions?
Take it back.

Happened with my first EVO take it back
Same thing just happened to me on my Evo that is over a month old. Only happens intermittently though. After a reboot, it seems to be fine for a while.
mine is blurry too. is there any hack for it? im not covered by sprint for this. Maybe deal with htc directly? any ideas hackers?
wht the hell are you not covered by sprint? of course you are covered so take it back.
both of you guys take the damn things back... seriously why are you even here asking for help... the only help you will get is sprint repairing or replacing it

oh and resets can sometimes cure it for a while I think.
mine has been taking crisp pics all day now
If it's a defective phone and you havent voided the warrenty take it back anyways, it is HTC's warranty not Sprint's
Ive had my evo for almost two years and I installed the cm9 rom for it and the camera was having this problem so I went back to my backup and same problem. It wont focus. It acts like its focusing but just wont. Also I've opened the phone several times so a replacement is out of the question.
Every 004 I've had, had this issue. Unless I use CM7 camera software, or Sense 3 (?) Camera software.

Weird. Someone in the Evo LTE forum just had a camera hack completely bust their cam. Even after RUU. I didn't think it was possible. Apparently I'm wrong.

I have the same problem, I think it's a sensor problem. Sprint said I could send it to them and have it repaired, but that means no phone for a week or 2, can't do it. It'll go away for a while if you go into the settings, reset to default settings, close the camera and reopen it, go back into the settings, and set it to 720. It's a lotta' work when you're tryin' to catch somethin' viral, though... like when your infant daughter spits up all the boobie milk she just had into her mom's mouth... yup, totally missed it 'cause of the same problem...
If you're real slick about it, you can run the RUU, and take it into a sprint store. They'll give you a refurb, but if you do it 3 times, they're required to give you a brand new phone. I'm on my 5th phone, 2nd brand new one....lol. Both brand new EVOs had the same problem.
Flash back to stock. If that doesn't help, take it to a Sprint store (or do it yourself) and have them press the camera module back down onto the board.
Voila, fixed. I do this for every Evo that I take apart for every customer. Prevents future issues.

Yes, found THIS read through it and see what they are saying.
Ive had my baby Evo for 10 months (the best phone Ive had ever) but recently (due to some accidents Im guessing) the touch (digitizer) is sometimes being not responsive, some times it gets all crazy and doesnt work or chooses options without me touching the screen. I tried different roms to see if a rom or app was the problem, but it kept happening. my Q is, if I replace my Evo for a new one at a Sprint Store, will I have a hard time rooting it? Cause Ive heard of ppl replacing theirs and being unable to root or having to do some wierd procedures to get root... any help is appreciated!!
I think that depends in what hboot is sent to you and then I think you have to use htc unlock, you can see if a sprint repair store can replace the screen (i heard it can cost $35 or more,if they'll do it at the closest repair store)
Tapa away from a galaxy far away
A new evo will probably come with Android 2.3.3 which means that the only way to root is to use the revolutionary root method. Googling revolutionary root should bring up some guides so you can decide if you think its worth it for you
Swyped from my synergized best friend
ok so if I had to get my phone replaced (I rlly hope not) then I can still root it? also would it be best to have the screen replaced at Sprint or buy it somewhere and replace it myself?
Yes you should still be able to root. a lot of people got stuck unrooted because of the 2.3.3 update but revolutionary root works on that Android version now. And if you have insurance then the sprint store might be the safer way to go. Just make sure you unroot first just in case
Swyped from my synergized best friend
To answer your second question, no, you will have no problems rooting, as any version is rootable with Revolutionary.
However, since your evo is 10 months old, you will not get a brand new one. You will get a refurb.

The digitizer and screen are two different parts. If you are having touch problems, thats the digitizer, and can usually be replaced in a sprint store.

Sometimes little specs of dust can get under your screen and cause it to go crazy. Maybe it just needs cleaned.

When i first got this phone the gps would always take a while to lock on to satellites and even when it did, it wouldnt be very accurate. It hasnt been working at all for months but i really dont care since i dont use the gps. Ive been running Blazer Rom 4.1 and even went back to stock el29 and it still wont work. Ive tried all the gps fix apps and they do nothing.
Even though i dont really use the gps i was wondering if sprint will replace it since its a hardware problem. The screen has a few scratches and a small crack at the top of the screen and i would like to get the white version but i wouldnt mind if they gave me a black one.
Do you guys think they would replace it?
Probably not.

As per my little lady, who works for Sprint - You will call in, they'll do basic trouble shooting. If that's a no fix, they'll send you to a service repair store, they'll try. If they cant fix, you'll get a refurbished replacement. If you don't have insurance, you'll pay 35 in fees.
Look up your closest service repair store on sprint and avoid the call in.
Hope this helps.

+1, It does not seem like a valid reason to replace the phone.
I did. It all depends on how nice the employees are really.

Depends on how big the crack is. If its bigger than an inch or spiderwebbbed no way but if its just a small crack a good tech should replace it BC I remember when I first got my e4gt and my GPS didn't work for caput

Yeah the crack is smaller than an inch. It's right under the speaker grill but it's like 2 small lines. Not really noticeable. Hopefully they'll replace it

I strongly disagree. If the GPS doesn't work, then the phone is defective. It would most likely be replaced with a refurbished phone though.
Try clearing your NVRAM and reactivating your phone with sprint on stock EL29. If you can't get a lock or even see a single satellite on GPS test, then I'd guess that the GPS antenna is defective.
Wasn't this a general issue with the e4gt? Mine was the same way, however, ever since I started flashing roms it usually picks up faster. On el29 it never would for me.

So I acquired a ET4G the other day from a friend who had dropped it in some water. He did an insurance claim so he has his new one and gave me this one to play with. Everything works fine except the mic and the notification light was stuck on. This is more of a curiosity project than anything else.
I completely disassembled and cleaned the circuit board and contacts. Now the notification light works properly and the mic works when recording video.
There is no mic in skype, calls, searching, anything except video recording that I've tested so far.
Sooo, Does video recording use a separate mic , if not does anyone have any ideas? It's running CM9 right now but shouldn't make a difference.
To my knowledge its the same mic. I would try using odin to flash the el26 kernel with cwm5 by acs. Then using that to flash an el29 build rom. Such as calkulin 3.0. Just to make sure whatever your friend had on there is stock of latest release. That wat if there is problems you know for sure its not software related.
sent from my BAD A$$ Epic touch
Alright, Went back to stock, flashed Calk 3.0 still no good.
So I don't believe that it is a software issue. I can fully accept that it is fried, water and electronics just don't mix. I just don't understand it working for video recording but nothing else.
I think the are three mics on the board, I'd guess the main one at the bottom for calls is shot. It's possible it could be replaced if you can get it off, then with some smd paste and a heat gun you could put a new one on.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Interesting, I wasn't aware of this. Far too much work for a phone that cant be hooked up anyways. Although it would be kind of fun to see if I could swap Mics.

I believe he said that he lost it, they asked him if he wanted to GPS track it and he said no. Paid the deductible and they mailed him a new one. That's why I am not to worried about fixing it, has a bad ESN anyways.
