My phone (once again) has a broken external speaker and its basically unusable at any volume. I have a warranty on it through asurion but I was wondering if anyone knows which screen type I'd get back. I have an AMOLED and would really like to keep it that way. If not, are the SLCD screens really that much worse from what I hear?
Thanks
You called arurion and they offered to send you an Incredible? I called them about a month ago and they said the Incredible was discontinued and that they could only offer me a Droid X.
Ive had 2 replacements from them so far. Both were the amoled version.

I actually haven't even filed a claim. I'm thinking about just dropping the insurance and sticking it out with my Inc. I would hate to get an X over this.
When you got the AMOLED was it recent or before the SLCD versions were announced?
Sent from my HTC Incredible
It was back in February. So if you haven't filed a claim yet, they will end up giving you an X instead of an Inc.
Just got my dinc 2 replaced by asurion and it came 2.2.2!! I'm so stoked, I was almost sure it would come with gb but guess I got lucky
But the box was unsealed so I don't know if it was a refurb or new, everything looked new but I'm not sure if the phones is?

You suck! I just got my asurion replacement yesterday and I was disappointed to find it came installed with 2.3 However I am pretty sure mine is brand new. Guess Ill just have to wait around for root.

If the phone was wrapped in plastic and has the do not remove thing on the screen chances are it's new. The phone I think is still too new to get a refurb but you never know.
I also believe if it's a refurb it will have to say it in the box saying something along the lines of it's "like new"
My GF got one from Asurion on Monday and it was brand new, The box was not sealed, but it had GB on it.
Well it was in the plastic bag and had a film over the screen that just said do not remove

I hate to say it but that is not true.
To truly tell if you got a refurb or a new phone, look at the top bar code on the side of the package. If there is a sticker covering it with "CLNR" plus a bunch of other letters, then you got a refurb.

Read the rest of my post. Not saying it was matter of fact, but most likely.
Also like with the barcode, they have to tell you if it's a refurb. It will be marked refurbished somewhere.

I wasn't trying to be mean sorry if it came off that way. Mine only had the sticker on the box but the phone looked brand new and was in the plastic with the do not remove screen protector. Makes me wonder if they didn't just take new ones and add the sticker.

Same here. My manual and charger were also in the bags, rubber band around the usb cord, etc. And had the CLNR.... sticker on it. Mine shipped with 2.3.3

They might do that to identify replacements for warranty purposes, since replacements only carry the warranty duration of the phone they replaced.
Mine was the same way - in a retail box with all the films on the screen and camera lens. It included the battery, back, sd card, sim and the charger and cable were both sealed in their plastic bags. The box did have the CLNR sticker, but in every possible way, it appeared to be brand new. Still hadn't been upgraded to 2.3 either.
My wife got a real replacement, just the phone, back and sim in the little replacement pouch and it came with 2.3. We actually have a replacement for that on the way, since it suffers from a constant impromptu rebooting problem. I'm hoping she gets one still with 2.2 this time

inc2 will NEVER come with froyo again. we've had TWO, not one TWO gingerbread updates, I hate to be the ass hole saying it to ya but don't get ur hopes up.. also I know there is a code you can enter into the phone and itll tell u if it is a refurb or not.. wish i could remember them
EDIT: to tell if phone is a refurb.. enter ##PST# hit sent, hit view mode, display and in there it was say refurbishment status, and if it says no then no, and yes, then yes.

Yea, I don't have my hopes up, I'll be happy if it comes with 2.2, but it's not a big deal. My wife barely uses more than e-mail and some light web browsing, so the advantages of root are totally lost on her.

Cool, thanks for the info. I checked mine and as I suspected, it's not a referb. Says "No" under refurbishment status. It does bug me a bit that the referb my wife received was clearly defective, as it's been plagued by the constant reboot issue from the minute we activated it. Obviously it was returned for that exact reason and they probably did little more than a factory reset and shipped it back out. Oh well, at least it's almost trivially easy to get them to send another.

Then how'd I just get one froyo yesterday? Do you have any more info on that code?
I know that if you root it'll void your warranty, and today I dropped my phone and the faceplate shifted to the left, does anyone know if I can take it to Costco even on S-Off to get it replaced, or anyone know how to shift it back?
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA Premium App
I seriously doubt the folks running the phone booth at Costco even know how to tell if a phone is S-OFF or not (or get paid enough to care). Flash back to stock and go return it.
If you just flash back to stock then they will never know.
Rooting won't take away your warranty. Verizon doesn't check to see if you rooted (if you exchange over the phone). Severe physical damage is the only thing that will take away your warranty. Good luck getting a replacement that works though. Extremely poor quality control in the refurbished phones. Dust, scratches, blown speakers, etc. I swear verizon just ships the defective ones right back out.

you must elaborate further otherwise we are only to see that you are contradicting your statement. As I do agree you can get good refurbs. The part when you say "I've had numerous replacements. Never have had any problems with Verizon or Asurion." If you've had numerous replacements, then the refurbs can't be all so great, UNLESS of coarse you are talking about a number of different phone in which you had to get refurbs for.
Alright thanks for your help, I'll be flashing stock on this and hoping I'll get a Froyo

I see what you're saying. My first Incredible 1 we took back to Verizon because Costco was cheaper. Then I got one from Costco brand new that after 5 or so months had some software glitch that Verizon sent me a replacement for. That one was refurbished. That one worked better than all of my other phones I had. Then I dropped it and shattered the screen to smitherines. My new Incredible 2 is the refurbished replacement for that broken one. So, like I said, I haven't had any quality control issues from either company. Maybe I'm just lucky but I'm a happy camper.

Trying to return my Epic 4G touch (LOS getting on my damn nerves!) and it's been 15-days since I've activated so Sprint is giving me a hard time about returning it. I do recall when I purchased it online and when I received it, it contained a letter stating I had 30-days to return it. Might have been a mistake on their part, but I'm trying to located that letter. Anyone else have that letter by chance??
It has been a, documented issue with the phone. Sprint makes their money on their network, not their phone. Go to the store you bought it, just be friendly and talk to the manager, they shouldn't make an issue out of a swap. If they don't approve the return, call tech support and speak to someone in the retention department. With a complete service cancel sprint will give you a hard time.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I am also getting the same bull**** runaround.
When I upgraded, the guy in the store didn't say anything about 14 days.
Thinking about taking this up with American Express and letting them deal with Sprint.

Not sure how they can argue when they ship the phone with a letter stating you have 30 days to return it. I know I received it, and apparently others have as well...
new policies went into effect in September....14 days....shooting themselves in the foot. So don't buy phones the 1st month of launch let issues be found and addressed.

Has gotten better, in the QA/QC department, but in the past they have screwed me enough to know to wait at least a month. Even when I waited over a month for issues to show up in the EVO 3D I still fell into that signal trap, and ditched that phone for a Photon. I was hoping to sell the Photon for the Epic but was a day over 30 days.

LetsTalk.com also told me I had 30 days for an exchange. It is their policy. 14 days is if you want to cancel service. I think each retailer can have their own policy when it comes to exchanges, guess Sprint only gives you 14 days for a return or an exchange.
How did it go op? Just curious if u got it returned. I'd be calling Sprint everyday. If your paper says 30 days I can't see hiw they can deny u your 30 days.

I'm wanting to trade my Motorola Photon 4g for a Samsung Epic Touch. Anyone interested? I've had it just over a month and have had it in a case from day one. The screen is flawless and looks brand new! I have the box, orig charger, etc. PM me if interested.
If LOS is pissing you off, get the deodex ROM and flash stock without CWM. Hasn't given me any trouble.
If you still want to return it, say you are missing important phone calls and it is crucial for your work or family issues. They can't give you a hard time over a defect.

Just putting my two cents in I have both bought my photon and got a launch device for working at sprint of a gs2 andI must say I like my photon a lot better than my gs2 I thinkI am switching back today. Thre radio sucks in this phone slow and I always get errors web browsing where it just stops working, phone locks up and becomes un responsive quite often, and oh did I mention the radio blows. The screen has that bad yellowish tint on low brightness which I use a lot in white screens, and the battery life is no where near what I get on my photon. Just my two cents though.

How do I know if the phone that is sent from T-mobile as a replacement phone for a defective one is Refurbished or NEW one ?
I have been told that it is more likely a refurbished device but there is a possibility that they send new ones sometimes !
I just don't think it's fair to receive a refurbished replacement for an only 1 month old "defective " one !
Hey Denver Guy...I believe there is sticker under battery that will say its a refurbished device. But usually its up in the air what you recive from them

Refurbished is a very broad word. You can send a phone in cause a button is loose and once fixed it will now be labeled as a refurb. Out of all of the Refurbished phones i have received in the past none looked less than new. Even when my sister received a refurbed Mytouch 3g nearly a year later...it still looked brand new with zero issues. Its not something I would worry too much about if you have to send your phone in to get a replacement. You can however try and ask them to just give you a new one out of the box as well for exchange.
Edit:
Just my input and I know it doesnt answer your question. But like mentioned slightly , if it is within the first 30 days I am 99% sure you can just ask for a new one.

My last ones were a mytouch 3g slide and mytouch 4g. When I got my s2 replaced it was just an instore exchange so that one doesnt count since I got a whole new box.
I doubt it because I was told specifically that they were refurbished. If they were new, it would prob be easier for them to have you go to a store and do an exchange.
I just got my warranty replacement sgs2 today from T-mobile it came in the white box but has default screen protector. I bought my sgs2 in the beginning of Dec"for the guy who asked". It looks flawless and smells new"lol", but I'de say its refurbished, because it didn't come in the sealed box. I made a big stink about receiving a refurbished phone when I called it in, but like the other fellow said they would not guarantee a new phone, but did agree its not fair to buy a new phone and receive a refurbished phone back."but still wouldn't guarantee" anything."bull crap"
There are no labels that say it is a refurb so makes me "kinda" wonder. Because att refurb phones are labeled behind the batt.
But any ways 2 more things. A lil Off Topic so sorry stop reading if that bothers you ,but I think its cool..
Originally I bought 2 HD2's at wall mart for 49.95 each "Best DEV Phone EVER" and got two 100 gift cards for the phones."Nice" 9 months later my HD2 reboots its self all the time outta nowhere, so T mobile says sorry heres a g2x cause htc doesn't make hd2's anymore."sweet I love the phone" so I think that was pretty cool. It was a refurb though. works perfect. Woulda rather had the HD2 in both cases though.
Now my wife broke her screen and we did a insurance claim for 120 and they sent her a brand new htc HD7 with the Mango update on it, sealed in the box. neat phone but no android for it so I don't like it lol.
I just thought I would share some of my phone replacement exp's with you guys.

Now my wife broke her screen and we did a insurance claim for 120 and they sent her a brand new htc HD2 with Mango update on it, sealed in the box. neat phone but no android for it so I don't like it lol.
I just thought I would share some of my phone replacement exp's with you guys.
edit: it just came with 2.3.5 and uvkid
