Wow! I just dropped my Evo from my lap (about2 feet maybe) and the screen shattered! It still works, but obviously I have to get it fixed....I have full insurance.
So my questions are these...
1. Before I take it to Sprint, I have to get it back to stock. Once I run the appropriate RUU, will there be anyway of knowing I had rooted it?
2. Will I get a new phone, or will they try to repair this one?
3. I understand there is $100 deductible, will this be the full 100? Has this happened to anyone else?
I'm in shock right now.....I love my phone =(

Your floor must be made of adamantite....But no, as long as you get it unrooted, showing S-ON in the bootloader, they won't know, and delete all your rooting, rom materials, ect off the phone/sdcard. It'll probably be the full 100$ and they'll probably just hand you a refurbished one. But that sucks man.
Great! the damn RUU wont work! Windows 7 keeps closing it....saying something like, "Close program or Search online for solution"
I downloaded:
RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe
From another link and same thing....
Can I paste it to my phone and run it?
Any suggestions?
Should I put the god damned thing in the microwave then take it in!
I'm so pissed right now!...
Sorry....frustrated.
That would be funny to see it in the microwave. But you ran the RUU correctly, with phone in fastboot, connect to pc, when it shows fastboot usb then run the RUU? Also has installed then uninstalled HTC sync?
with phone in fastboot, connect to pc, when it shows fastboot usb then run the RUU
Worked...I was able to run the RUU and apperently my phone is back to stock.
However.....
showing S-ON in the bootloader, they won't know
It says:
SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-2.10.001
MICORP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO-2.1500.11.19
Oct 15 2010,12:07:00
So what does this mean?
It appears to me that it is still rooted, "SHIP S-OFF".
But the phone seems to be completely stock.

Yes, they did. They will most likely make him do an Assurion claim and pay the $100 deductible. I guess it was costing Sprint too much money to fix the screens so they went back to the policy of physical damage being an insurance claim instead of a warranty repair.
i recommend to just take it to the store and they put a new screen with no charge because i get a refurbish from the insurance's and it was with marks round the camera and i take my wifes phone and they don't charge me nothing and the phone was roted and they just fix it with any question i just get stock with my refurbish old phone and i never can have the same battery life like the one i get like in 2 months ago

Ok. I hate to ask, dkdude, but I'm a bit scared.....
First, is this the link to s-on tool?
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
Second, which pc36img.zip do I use? Or are the all the same?
I was under the impression that there are several different EVO software's out there. That is why I had to download a specific RUU to run?
Anyway, if that is not the case, can you please link exactly what I need to download? and perhaps exact directions on what I have to do?
Appreciate all you guys responding....
I'm still frustrated and pissed =)
the s-on tool is somewhere in there. its in the faq section i think. make sure to flash it before ruu-ing.
the pc36img.zip you will want to flash is the 3.70 stock version. you can find it here.

The new official rule is any crack, in any screen, on any phone, that is larger than one inch is sent to Assurion for a physical damage claim.

Okay, I know there are a bunch of threads on how to unroot, but I'm not sure which way I should do it.
There's the ruu way or there's the upload the pc(something.com).zip and just flash that and it will unroot.
I have 003 hardware(I think, I got the evo when it first came out)
I rooted via the three step windows program and have s-off
I'm running cm7 rls1
How should I got about unrooting?
When I tried the ruu way, the ruu would not find my evo connected to the computer..
Flashing the pc(something).zip would be easy but idk where to find the latest version of it.
Thank you.

There's a whole list of them. The second one down is what you're looking for. Name it "PC36IMG.zip" without quotes.

Download the 3.70 version, then boot your phone into fastboot, connect to pc, run RUU exe, and follow the instructions.

I downloaded the above... what is the point of booting into fastboot if the ruu instructs to turn the phone on normally?
I tried running the ruu while the phone was in fastboot and the ruu couldn't find the phone connected to the computer.
Should I try it with the phone on as stated in the ruu?
Are you sure this is the correct ruu?
I used simple root to root btw.

make sure the pc36img.zip is named exactly pc36img.zip and doenst have .zip.zip extention or something because of hidden extensions or some other glitch. BTW IF YOU HAVE EVER FLASHED UNREVOKED FOREVER MAKE SURE YOU FLASH THE S-ON TOOL BEFORE UNROOTING. S-OFF IS THE MOST OBVIOUS SIGN OF ROOT SO MAKE SURE TO TURN IT BACK ON.

Sorry for late reply. No ruu Is not what I mean. Try setting up adb and fast boot commands. boot phone into fast boot usb mode. Then in the comp type.
Fastboot oem rebootRUU
You should see a black screen with silver htc letters. Type.
Fastboot flash zip /path/to/pc36img.zip
Keep in mind the zip us on your computer in this case. You should see a bunch of lines. When it completes, type.
Fastboot reboot
this should unroot you.

Hi,
I know there are a lot of other Threads about Bricked Phones but I swear, I've tried everything.
My Phone is S-Off and I had the CM7 Rom on my device.
For a Friend, who wants to buy my phone, I tried the "RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release"
and know i got the black htc screen with the 4 exclamation marks in each corner.
My Phone was original from o2 so I tried the o2 Ruu but that didn't work either.
Also My Device is with the SLCD-Screen.
I also have a Goldcard but the Goldcard seems not very helpful to me.
When I try to flash a Rom with Ruu it tells me the Error 110 on the PC and on my phone appears that

Jesus Feckin Christ!
I can either answer this like I do every single day of my life, or I can tell you to use search....
Hmmmm. What to do?
Maybe we can play a little game? Yes thats it.
Clue 1. Alpharev / Revolutionary hboots have write protection.......
OMG Thank you so so much for this brilliant idea.
What do you think have I done the last 2 days?
2 Days of writing this post?
I've tried everything which I could FIND by using Search but nothing helped.
When you can help me, thank you.
Please don't waste my time with upolished posts.
I can help you. I know the answer. I post the answer every day. Did clue 1 not help?
Give a man a fish and he can feed himself for a day. Give a man a logical and methodical approach to resolving problems and he can fix his desire for life.
Now play along
I'm sorry for taking it out on you, but this really is asked EVERY day and its so obvious why it doesnt work...
Command back.
Ok, its early in the morning for me so sorry.
I'm not so experienced like you with the whole development-stuff.
When I change something on my device I read something in threads and try it step by step but i don't really understand what I'm doing like most people.
I understand its annoying to answer the same problems so often but i would appreciate it if you could help me one more time.
Aww you're being so nice. I wanted to give you another clue, but ok...
You have the CM7 R2 hboot. This is too small for a sense rom, the /system partition will not accomodate the /system of a sense rom. Which is why you see the [fail]
Because the hboot is write protected, the RUU couldn't over write it with the stock hboot first.
What you need to do is download the downgrade.img from alpharev and fastboot flash it as a hboot.
Then you can simply run the RUU again.
Thank you so much.
one last question. Do i have to put the downgrade.img on my sd card and start normal or how can i flash is a hboot?
follow the red link in my signature for my guides. There is an adb and fastboot faq. Ignore the adb part as its irrelevant.
This will tell you how to use fastboot. Most people tend to go for using the windows application that is linked in there.
One of those déjà vu threads.
Is the bravo_downgrade.img only 512kb small?
i tried it with the android flasher.
When i plug my phone off the usb its shows my device is know s-on (so good for that).
But the Ruu.exe don't work.
Still stuck on the exclamationmark screen.
Now I still got a Goldcard. To use it, do i have to put the goldcard only in my device and run the ruu.exe again or do I have to do something different?
I got the failure 131 in the Ruu Update-Window
Does anybody know what else i can do?
You just put the goldcard in and RUU. Or use the 2.3.3 from the HTCdev.com as it doesn't need a goldcard
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
How can i use the 2.3.3 from htcdev.com
Should I run the Unlock Bootloader?
What does I have to do?
You have to fastboot flash the downgrade.img and in fastboot still, run RUU

Has Somebody the Link for the right RUU?
I've treid everything i could find but non of them worked.
I bought my desire in Germany with an O2-Contract. Originally is was a froyo rom.
Still hanging on the exclamation mark screen.
After i plug the usb off it shows:
Braveo PVt4 Ship S-On
HBoot-0.93.001
Micro-051d
Touch Panel-Synt0101
Radio-5-11-05-27

RUU
does this mean the falsh of the downgrad.img didn't work?
Well the fact that you're S-ON would in fact suggest that it has worked (kinda a d'uuh moment there).. tried different RUU? tried 2.3.3 RUU?
all the advice that one can give to you has already been given. put it into practise.

For warranty?
How did you root/hack your device? I guess AAHK? You can use that to get back to stock as well.
Otherwise get a fitting RUU for your device and run it.

It's safe and there are no traces left.

Is there a stockrom as a zipfile instead of a RUU?
I'd like to revert via SDcard.
(because of an USBbrick / hardwarefailure)
Download the RUU.exe, open it via WinZip or something similar and get the rom.zip out of it.
(Or simply run it till it shows the manual, then get into your temp folder and you'll find the rom.zip there).
Rename it to PD98IMG.zip, push it to the root of your SD and your good to go
DN41
Hi. Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunatly it didn't help me very well yet.
Winzip doesn't seem to be able to open my downloaded RUU files. (neither does winrar)
And if i just execute the exe file i don't see any option to copy it to a temporary folder.
Ok, so do this:
Open explorer here: C:\Users\"YOUR USERNAME"\Appdata\Local\Temp\
Then Run the RUU, it will extract the files to some folder in here, you will see it pop up when opening the RUU (or you run it and simply use search).

Thank you very much DN41. (and mitzap) It worked.
When i decide to return my phone for repair i shall unroot it with this (renamed) rom.
First i'm going to look futher for some kind of softwarefix for my usb problem.
You're welcome
DN41
I have been reading on here quite a bit to work out how to unroot the DHD. I realise that running the correct RUU is likely to be the way to go... what about S-Off? As far as I have read, running the RUU does not put your phone back to S-On.
Please could you let me know if this is the right order to do things in:
Downgrade to 1.32 (by running the 1.32 WWE ruu) - Would it be possible to run 1.32 WWE ruu regardless of what my CID currently is? Also, would this give me WWE/unbranded CID?
Temp root with visionary.
Use the S-Off tool to get to S-On. If wanting to return to carrier branded, then you would also be able to change the CID to whichever Carrier ID wanted.
Install RUU of choice, be that branded or non-branded.
I think that's it... if someone could confirm if I've got this right or let me know if I've gone for overkill?
Cheers!!

If you're S-ON it eliminates the possibility of you having a custom bootloader, and the only possibility now is that the RUU was corrupted or you used the wrong RUU for your device. Therefore, for this process you need a goldcard.

#If you have your phone on contract with a carrier e.g. You got the phone from Vodafone, then go to shipped-roms.com and download the RUU for your carrier.
OR
If you bought the phone unbranded from a store e.g. Amazon.com, then just flash the WWE RUU.
OR
If you're lazy and have balls of steel, go to my guide and download the 2.3 RUU (Find it in resources) and run that.
THEN
Turn the phone on, plug it in via USB to your computer, find the RUU.exe you downloaded, run it on your computer, wait. Do not for christ sakes unplug it when it's updating or you'll brick your phone.

It looks like mother board issue

Yeah I realized that, but acording to the information the problem depends on the mobo which must be PVT1, and i have PVT3 so maybe the problem should not be as bad as is in PVT1.
Am I wrong?
PVT1 was bad with mobo... I did not see many problems with pvt3, let it settle and test it for a couple days then you will see... You can try stability test app from market to stress phone out

what it is for? : o
Stability test... is running your phone to max. load to test if everything working fine... if you got overheating issue etc... Best thing will be underclock and undervolt to reduce heat produced by mobo and cpu/gpu

Thanks, i already tried it but it seems everything is ok out of the overheating prorblem: /
I've be en cheking and it seems that the phone turns off when battery temperature reach +30°C, so maybe it could be the battery, what do you think?
I can't tell you, I used to have battery temp. about 37 C peaking to mid 40's and no reboots, as I sold phone I can't test it

thanks both, but it seems that the problem comes from the mobo, so mi last hope is sendig it to HTC, do you think they still support this model? and if so, can i send them the phone even im not under warranty?
I dunno, they probably would fix it but im guessing it wont be cheap

i just read that many users had this problem when upgrading with 2.3 RUU from htcdev, so i'll try to downgrade or root+custom rom, maybe that might work : p

Well if u go the s-off + rooting road and all goes well...u wont regret it
Just do plenty of reading about it first so u know exactly what u have to do that way it reduces the chances of things going wrong

So the phone is currently rooted and running a GPE rom, would it be ok if i sent it in like that for repair?? or should i return it to stock?
Well i hope you had the logic thought yourself that completely stock is the best. It's about your screen so it shouldn't matter.....but on the other hand, why take the risk ?

Are you trying to use the free replacement? In that case definitely go back to stock and locked bootloader and remove tampered banner

Just thought I'd share my experience for anyone else wondering. I originally sent my phone in a week ago. Did the express option. After shipping the phone back received an email about two days later with the title" Your HTC quotation is ready". After clicking the link I see a that the quote is for $290, and the reason is illegal software.
Before sending my phone off all I did was a wipe. My phone was sent unlocked and rooted with ARHD 8.0 Rom and TWRP still intact. I called HTC the next day and filed a "quotation dispute ticket". They asked my reason and I said basically the screen was cracked due to physical damage and clearly no software installed on the phone had any impact on that. Got a call last Thursday (July 3rd) from an HTC repair manager. He apologized for the inconvenience and stated that after reviewing the phone he could see that it was unlocked but was still running HTC Sense rom, and was not overclocked or altered in other ways. Due to this they would honor the screen replacement. Got an email this morning saying the phone was sent out next day air, and should receive tomorrow afternoon.
Thanks HTC! I think the main issue they see is people installing GPE based roms or overclocking. It seems pretty standard that any unlocking will automatically red flag the phone and shoot out an automated quotation email for the $290. I think simply opening the dispute has someone take a deeper look into your issue and more times and none HTC will honor the replacement.
Hope this helps!:fingers-crossed:

up to you mate - but why take the risk for a quick return to stock?
you'll see other people in that same thread have had huge problems trying to get repair under warranty.

I want to return it back to stock, but im not 100% on the steps i should take, and I currently dont have a Windows machine to work on, i could borrow one later today.
First remove the tempered flag then return bootloader to LOCKED not relocked and finally run the ruu to get full stock unrooted

Same old same old....now i ask you which ruu !? Do you know if its there. Do you have a 2.22.401 international ruu (if he is on that official main) ? No because its not there. All available ruu's are for sprint/Verizon/tmobile....so stop referring to ruu's in the international forum !

Check my nandroid backup thread

So i should remove the tempered flag then return bootloader to locked, after all that flash one of your nandroid backups? i have an ATT device btw.
Check your software number and cid. That's first to know ! Then compare and check if there is a matching nandroid or ruu (for AT&T) gather your information first. And NEVER relock/lock your bootloader before you know what you are doing. In regarding of restoring a nandroid backup relocking/locking the bootloader is the very LAST step you take in the process.

You can check in the settings menu - about - software the version you are running now. If the 502 is the same you can take any of those 2 with the matching stock recovery and even perform ota again. You can also check in the AT&T threads if there is a ruu available. But without s-off you can't downgrade the hboot. With a nandroid backup you can, because the hboot will be untouched and you "just" run a lower software.

I dont see that, im guessing its because im running GPE, so just picking the correct one will flash back to 100% stock even recovery?
Check your main and cid via fastboot commands. Described in the OP of my backup thread.
Recently sent my phone in for an exchange. Set to complete stock, locked bootloader, and unrooted. Happy to say I got my phone back in a week.
