Unrooting? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, I know there are a bunch of threads on how to unroot, but I'm not sure which way I should do it.
There's the ruu way or there's the upload the pc(something.com).zip and just flash that and it will unroot.
I have 003 hardware(I think, I got the evo when it first came out)
I rooted via the three step windows program and have s-off
I'm running cm7 rls1
How should I got about unrooting?
When I tried the ruu way, the ruu would not find my evo connected to the computer..
Flashing the pc(something).zip would be easy but idk where to find the latest version of it.
Thank you.

There's a whole list of them. The second one down is what you're looking for. Name it "PC36IMG.zip" without quotes.

http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/Supersonic/
Download the 3.70 version, then boot your phone into fastboot, connect to pc, run RUU exe, and follow the instructions.

I downloaded the above... what is the point of booting into fastboot if the ruu instructs to turn the phone on normally?
I tried running the ruu while the phone was in fastboot and the ruu couldn't find the phone connected to the computer.
Should I try it with the phone on as stated in the ruu?
Are you sure this is the correct ruu?
I used simple root to root btw.

I did that.. but when I boot into the bootloader, it goes through the imgs but it doesn't find the one that it needs...

make sure the pc36img.zip is named exactly pc36img.zip and doenst have .zip.zip extention or something because of hidden extensions or some other glitch. BTW IF YOU HAVE EVER FLASHED UNREVOKED FOREVER MAKE SURE YOU FLASH THE S-ON TOOL BEFORE UNROOTING. S-OFF IS THE MOST OBVIOUS SIGN OF ROOT SO MAKE SURE TO TURN IT BACK ON.

s-on is on... but i'll double check the name. thanks

Let us know how it turns out. I was never interested in unrooting until today when I noticed a big white splotch on my screen and serious light leakage which started all of the sudden out of nowhere. Guess I'll be following your lead and heading to the Sprint store on Monday Ugh!!!

here's what happens when I try and do it via boot loader...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3nmsg9eWBA
and when I try and do it via the ruu either in fastboot or whent he phone is on.. I get this

That is what should happen if there is no pc36img.zip. Make sure it is named exactly pc36img.zip and not pc36img.zip.zip because extensions are hidden or something.

I'm sure that is named correctly. I copied right off of your message... I have show known extensions... I don't get it..

Well there is no way it wouldn't even verify the zip if it was named correctly. Name is the only thing I can think of. Re check the name. Pc36img.zip

It should at the very least say checking zip. You can manually flash the zip in ruu mode if you want and then you don't have to worry about names.

how do you do it manually?

He probably means doing it using the RUU (Application on your computer). If you're having the same problem that I'm having, that won't work. But it's worth a try.

Yeah, I stated before the the ruu would not find my phone. When its in fastboot, normal boot loader or when the phone is just on...
Im selling the phone on eBay and the auction is done in 8 hours, so that's why I need to unroot it...
Thank you for your help.

Sorry for late reply. No ruu Is not what I mean. Try setting up adb and fast boot commands. boot phone into fast boot usb mode. Then in the comp type.
Fastboot oem rebootRUU
You should see a black screen with silver htc letters. Type.
Fastboot flash zip /path/to/pc36img.zip
Keep in mind the zip us on your computer in this case. You should see a bunch of lines. When it completes, type.
Fastboot reboot
this should unroot you.

EVO 4G Unroot Help

I've looked into other threads on unrooting and it doesn't seem like anybody has the same issue as me.
The evo I'm trying to unroot is using HBoot 2.10.0001 if that makes any difference. I've already got the phone to S-ON, but whenever I try and flash over the PC36IMG.zip, it says abort. I've tried many different PC36IMG.zip files and they have all failed. What do I do here? I need help asap.
Please & thanks.

You're flashing it in the bootloader, not recovery, correct?
No I'm flashing it through the clockworkmod recovery like I would a ROM.
If I'm supposed to be flashing it over in bootloader, I'm not really quite sure how to do that. When I go into bootloader, it always does a check on PC36IMG.zip, so should I just put the new on there and let it do that check?
Also, where can I find the matching PC36IMG.zip for my HBoot version.
you do not flash a pc36img.zip through recovery..you let the phone do it through hboot. but one thing real quick b4 you try that. What baseband radio is currently on your phone???

So turn the phone off, hold vol+power til you see a white screen; when prompted, apply the update and reboot; you'll be on stock. As paranoia said, you flash the PC36IMG in the bootloader, not recovery. Make sure you flash the s-on zip in recovery first.

I'm unrooting because my mom needs to take it into the sprint store due to some hardware problems. She took it in there rooted and they told her they couldn't do anything about it because it was rooted. So here I am, trying to unroot so she can take it in and most likely get a new one.
I have another question. I'm noticing this file downloading is a .exe. I'm running a Mac, hoping that doesn't make any difference. Am I just transferring this file over to the SD card? and then on the bootloader screen press.....?
oh **** my bad. forget that one then. Dowload THIS ONE and just delete everything off the name except PC36IMG and put on sd card

Then when I go into bootloader, it should automatically check the PC36IMG.zip file and update itself then right?
When I get into the bootloader, it just loads the files really quick. Doesn't give me an option to update anything. Just options fastboot, recovery, clear storage, simlock, hboot usb. Not sure what to do. I have the new PC36IMG.zip on the SDcard right now. Just unsure on what I'm supposed to be doing with it in bootloader since I'm not flashing it in recovery.

Whenever I clicked on Fastboot, all it did was do a little scan and then went back to same menu. Didn't ask me for an update or anything.

I need to do this to multiple phones because we are having similar issues. On another phone I've tried flashing the s-on tool and I can't for the life of me get the phone back to s-on. I keep getting an error:
"verifying system type...
E: unsupported radio version
E: Update failed .Check /sdcard/soff.log.
E: Error in /sdcard/unrevoked-forever-son.zip

Why is this?
Edit: I've also looked into this and people always ask what HBoot version others are using, I'm using 2.10 so the tool can work for me. I just don't know why it's aborting. :/ Please help.

We ask for the HBoot and radio, but for the unrevoked-son (or soff), you need the correct radio for it to work.
It will not work with these three (made for Gingerbread) radios,

HTC Desire is Bricked

Hi,
I know there are a lot of other Threads about Bricked Phones but I swear, I've tried everything.
My Phone is S-Off and I had the CM7 Rom on my device.
For a Friend, who wants to buy my phone, I tried the "RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release"
and know i got the black htc screen with the 4 exclamation marks in each corner.
My Phone was original from o2 so I tried the o2 Ruu but that didn't work either.
Also My Device is with the SLCD-Screen.
I also have a Goldcard but the Goldcard seems not very helpful to me.
When I try to flash a Rom with Ruu it tells me the Error 110 on the PC and on my phone appears that

I tried everything for 2 days know but nothing worked.
Jesus Feckin Christ!
I can either answer this like I do every single day of my life, or I can tell you to use search....
Hmmmm. What to do?
Maybe we can play a little game? Yes thats it.
Clue 1. Alpharev / Revolutionary hboots have write protection.......
OMG Thank you so so much for this brilliant idea.
What do you think have I done the last 2 days?
2 Days of writing this post?
I've tried everything which I could FIND by using Search but nothing helped.
When you can help me, thank you.
Please don't waste my time with upolished posts.
I can help you. I know the answer. I post the answer every day. Did clue 1 not help?

Now play along
I'm sorry for taking it out on you, but this really is asked EVERY day and its so obvious why it doesnt work...
Command back.
Ok, its early in the morning for me so sorry.
I'm not so experienced like you with the whole development-stuff.
When I change something on my device I read something in threads and try it step by step but i don't really understand what I'm doing like most people.
I understand its annoying to answer the same problems so often but i would appreciate it if you could help me one more time.
Aww you're being so nice. I wanted to give you another clue, but ok...
You have the CM7 R2 hboot. This is too small for a sense rom, the /system partition will not accomodate the /system of a sense rom. Which is why you see the [fail]
Because the hboot is write protected, the RUU couldn't over write it with the stock hboot first.
What you need to do is download the downgrade.img from alpharev and fastboot flash it as a hboot.
Then you can simply run the RUU again.
Thank you so much.
one last question. Do i have to put the downgrade.img on my sd card and start normal or how can i flash is a hboot?
follow the red link in my signature for my guides. There is an adb and fastboot faq. Ignore the adb part as its irrelevant.
This will tell you how to use fastboot. Most people tend to go for using the windows application that is linked in there.
One of those déjà vu threads.
Is the bravo_downgrade.img only 512kb small?
i tried it with the android flasher.
When i plug my phone off the usb its shows my device is know s-on (so good for that).
But the Ruu.exe don't work.
Still stuck on the exclamationmark screen.
Now I still got a Goldcard. To use it, do i have to put the goldcard only in my device and run the ruu.exe again or do I have to do something different?
I got the failure 131 in the Ruu Update-Window
Does anybody know what else i can do?
You just put the goldcard in and RUU. Or use the 2.3.3 from the HTCdev.com as it doesn't need a goldcard
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
How can i use the 2.3.3 from htcdev.com
Should I run the Unlock Bootloader?
What does I have to do?
You have to fastboot flash the downgrade.img and in fastboot still, run RUU
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
Has Somebody the Link for the right RUU?
I've treid everything i could find but non of them worked.
I bought my desire in Germany with an O2-Contract. Originally is was a froyo rom.
Still hanging on the exclamation mark screen.
After i plug the usb off it shows:
Braveo PVt4 Ship S-On
HBoot-0.93.001
Micro-051d
Touch Panel-Synt0101
Radio-5-11-05-27

RUU
does this mean the falsh of the downgrad.img didn't work?
Well the fact that you're S-ON would in fact suggest that it has worked (kinda a d'uuh moment there).. tried different RUU? tried 2.3.3 RUU?
all the advice that one can give to you has already been given. put it into practise.

Your phone isn't rooted. How did you manage to flash recovery onto it in first place?
Search for advanced ace hack kit on xda. Read a LOT about how to use it and once ready, let the kit do its thing. After that you'll be S OFF and able to flash any custom ROM.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD with Beats Audio using XDA App
He unlocked it using the official HTC dev tool. It allows you to flash a custom recovery.
This is an obligatory to the op. Please research before you go and do stuff to your phone. I just don't get how someone will take a risk on there phones.
The reason it didn't boot is because you have to flash the boot image seperately. One simply can't just flash a rom, in cwr and call it a day if you did it using HTC tool.
What you need to do is. Boot back.into hboot select fastboot.
Take the boot image from your rom and place in your folder where fastboot and adb are located.
Then run the command
Fastboot flash boot boot.Img
Fastboot reboot
Its not working

Run a fitting RUU, relock your Bootloader and use AAHK afterwards.
(if you would have taken some time to get into this stuff, you wouldn't be messed up right now "Official HTC Unlock" is not that brilliant compared to AAHK ).
You say you don't know which RUU to use.
Where did you buy your phone? Was/Is it branded?

You have that stock RUU fitting your phone?
Open explorer here: C:\Users\"YOUR USERNAME"\Appdata\Local\Temp\
Then Run the RUU, it will extract the files to some folder in here, you will see it pop up when opening the RUU (or you run it and simply use search).
Inside there'll be a "rom.zip".

Rename it to PD98IMG.zip, push it to your SD card (in root, not into a folder) and boot your phone into bootloader.
It should check the file and then you have to select "yes" to flash it. Should be fine after it.

thx I tried to do this before but it keeps tell wrong Image
So you're a hundred percent sure, that you've got a fitting image? Cant believe that it would block a fitting image that method.
Which version did you try? Most recent one?
And BTW: would be great it you would tell before what you already tried instead of letting me explain it and then say "oh i already did that"
DN41
EDIT: I guess it doesnt take the Rom because of the high hboot version (yours is somewhere around 2, "normal" ones around 0.84). Maybe it would be the best to contact HTC's Support regarding that you used their official unlock instead of AAHK.

For warranty?
How did you root/hack your device? I guess AAHK? You can use that to get back to stock as well.
Otherwise get a fitting RUU for your device and run it.

Sometimes the store sent devices to the service and than they check these things in the bootloader.
That's why i'm asking.
Sure, its always good to get it back to stock

Is there a stockrom as a zipfile instead of a RUU?
I'd like to revert via SDcard.
(because of an USBbrick / hardwarefailure)
Download the RUU.exe, open it via WinZip or something similar and get the rom.zip out of it.
(Or simply run it till it shows the manual, then get into your temp folder and you'll find the rom.zip there).
Rename it to PD98IMG.zip, push it to the root of your SD and your good to go

Hi. Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunatly it didn't help me very well yet.
Winzip doesn't seem to be able to open my downloaded RUU files. (neither does winrar)
And if i just execute the exe file i don't see any option to copy it to a temporary folder.
Ok, so do this:
Open explorer here: C:\Users\"YOUR USERNAME"\Appdata\Local\Temp\
Then Run the RUU, it will extract the files to some folder in here, you will see it pop up when opening the RUU (or you run it and simply use search).

download a rom from here http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Ace
Depends on witch rom you had from the start ,the first 6 are WWE.
This will revert your DHD to stock .
LE:do what DN41 said, i didn't read that you want to unroot from SD !
Thank you very much DN41. (and mitzap) It worked.
When i decide to return my phone for repair i shall unroot it with this (renamed) rom.
First i'm going to look futher for some kind of softwarefix for my usb problem.
You're welcome
DN41
I have been reading on here quite a bit to work out how to unroot the DHD. I realise that running the correct RUU is likely to be the way to go... what about S-Off? As far as I have read, running the RUU does not put your phone back to S-On.
Please could you let me know if this is the right order to do things in:
Downgrade to 1.32 (by running the 1.32 WWE ruu) - Would it be possible to run 1.32 WWE ruu regardless of what my CID currently is? Also, would this give me WWE/unbranded CID?
Temp root with visionary.
Use the S-Off tool to get to S-On. If wanting to return to carrier branded, then you would also be able to change the CID to whichever Carrier ID wanted.
Install RUU of choice, be that branded or non-branded.
I think that's it... if someone could confirm if I've got this right or let me know if I've gone for overkill?
Cheers!!

HTC one M8 wont update, boot to recovery or factory reset. Help please :)

Hi,
Yesterday I started trying to root my phone, needless to say it didn't go too well. As the title says, I'm unable to access recovery mode, and this morning when I tried to update to andriod 6.0, that wouldn't work either.
I successfully unlocked the bootloader, I think. It says unlocked in bootloader anyway. I have now relocked it to see if it will update with a locked bootloader.
Okay, so to describe what happens when I try to boot into recovery: The HTC logo shows up for a second or so, then the screen goes black and I have to boot it up from start. Also, I noticed, don't know if this is relevant, but in order for me to get into bootloader I have to hold vol down and power for at least 20 seconds, that does't seem normal to me.
I have downloaded a RUU from an HTC site(can't link, first post), but of course that wont install because im S-ON, which I don't know what it means. Anyway, the RUU wizard tells me to get the corret one, even though im fairly sure I am using the correct one.
my CID is HTC__Y13, do't know if that is going to help.
When trying to root I followed the htconeroot websites guide. again can't link :/
I have no idea what to do from here, if anyone who actually knows how these things work could help me, I would apreciate it greatly.
Thanks in advance!
Post fastboot getvar all result without serial & imei no.
Then we'll see what you need to do.
You may need these drivers installed : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926362&postcount=4
Hey, thanks for replying!
Here is my getvar stats. If you don't mind me asking, why should I not post serial or ime no.?

Oh, also my battery is almost fully charged, still says 0mv... Don't know why, maybe somehow my phone incorrectly detects that my battery is too low when trying to run recover/update and quits because of low battery level?
You don't post serial and imei so you don't get your phone stolen. Those numbers can let someone report the phone as stolen, and have it become rejected by the carriers and such. As for the main issue you have, I'm S-OFF personally, so I flash everything manually. I haven't dealt with much of anything with S-ON aside from pure stock which does everything on it's own.

Because those are personal info .. bad people can use the data to hack or something. So it's best not to post them.
The battery show as 0 on getvar result is normal ...
back to your problem ....
Your device is not a M8 but a different device called M8s
So the custom recovery that you installed most probably for M8 and definitely won't work on M8s.
And be frank with you, I am not familiar with your kind of device. There is a separate thread for M8s - http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/one-m8s-general
You can ask help here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/one-m8s-general/make-custom-recovery-htc-one-m8s-t3114245
or here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc...lp-thread-htc-one-m8s-to-stock-howto-t3190238
maybe someone with your device version will help you
Wow! I feel so stupid now...
Thanks alot for your help guys!
I'll try using the correct stuff instead and see if I can solve things, thanks again!
By the way, what would be the easiest way to go about this?
My bootloader is locked and I can't unlock it again since I have used the wrong recovery mod... So I can't just flash the recovery mode now, can I?
Could I use the RUU to somehow restore my recovery mode ? That would be great.
You can unlock the bootloader again with the same unlock_code.bin that you applied to HtcDev.
This time use correct TWRP meant for M8s to root it. You can find it in that M8s thread.
I don't know whether there is RUU for your software version. As I mentioned above, those people in M8s thread know better.
Since your device is not rooted (most probably), why don't you do the update from 1.21.401.1 to Marshmallow 2.10.401.1 ?
You just need to reflash the stock recovery but you need to find either 1.21.401.1 0r 2.10.401.1 stock recovery.img
Well the problem is I can't reflash since my bootloader is locked, and I can't unlock my bootloader because whenever I go into the "do you really want to unlock bootloader" screen and say yes, it shows the HTC logo and then turns off again... Very frustrating.
I know I'm currently in the wrong section, but since I already have your attention and the fact that you seem to know your stuff, what do you think I should do?

OK .. you need to flash 1.21.401.1 signed firmware.zip
I'll try to find one (hopefully is available) but I'll do this tomorrow. It's already 1.45 am here .. I need to rest soon.
Meantime try to search/google 1.21.401.1 OTA.zip or firmware.zip. If you can find one (but make sure it is for M8s not M9 or any other device) .. you just need to run these command to flash it.
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
you'll see error
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip (one more time)
fastboot reboot-bootloader
this should fix your problem . your problem now is wrong recovery installed but unable to reinstall correct recovery alone because bootloader is relocked.
Thanks man!
If only the world was made up of people like you!
Get some rest, I'm not in any hurry!
I'll try to get the RUU version that I fits my phone, I'm guessing I can't use a newer one because I'm S-ON? Anyway, you don't have to answer now.
Thanks alot again, really appreiciate your help!

If there is a newer one 2.10.401.1 yes you can use, you can't use older version than 1.21.401.1 like 1.11.401.1 or 1.11.401.10 , higher version is ok.
Good night.
Hey, hopefully I don't wake you up somehow.
I found what I think is the right file, it was named the same thing you told me to flash.
When using the commands you told me I get this:
I can't understand any of it really, I'll google around some more and see if I can find what is wrong.
It happened that I woke up for a drink.
Just wait for tomorrow, I already have the correct firmware.zip for you.
Edit : try this - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4jGj3SfskzMVElpa0MxTlpCRGM/view?usp=sharing
See whether you can download it, posted on mobile.
I'll check your progress tomorrow
The last command to exit that cmd prompt screen is fastboot reboot-bootloader
Have to get some sleep, saw your answer just now lying in bed...
Will continue as soon as I wake up
EDIT- Okay so I couldn't wait lol.
Did as you said but I get this:
Am I supposed to put the firmware.zip in the fastboot folder. I did that, I'm guessing that's right...
Here is a picture of my fastboot folder in case it is somehow useful:

It seems like the generic fastboot.exe is not working for this. You should try using the htc_fastboot.exe
https://ruu.lalleman.net/HTC_M8S(QL_UL)/Tools/Fastboot/
put the htc_fastboot.exe in your fastboot folder, then try again with commands
fastboot oem rebootRUU
htc_fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
error...
repeat htc_fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot reboot-bootloader
If this also fails, the last thing that you can do (you need microSD) ...
rename the firmware.zip to 0PKVIMG.zip (that's a zero not "O")
put 0PKVIMG.zip on your microSD (not in any folder)
on bootloader select hboot
it will scan the file and ask whether to update
volume up to update
once completed reboot
(remember to remove this 0PKVIMG.zip from microSD after reboot)
Thank you once again.
My phone now propely works thanks to you.
The htc_fastboot.exe seems to have done the trick. What is it that it actually does?
I can't stress enough how grateful I am!

Most probably the HTC encryption on the htc signed firmware.zip only can be read by htc_fastboot.exe
Great that you solved your problem .. you should update to the latest Marshmallow 2.10.401.1
As this is M8s device matter, I requested moderator to move this thread to M8s section
when i type "htc_fastboo oem rebootRUU" it restarting normally and bootloop
