Curious what app for battery conserving do the XDA peeps recommend ? The two most popular that I see mentioned a lot are; JuiceDefender + Green Power.
Opinions wanted please.
Never used green power, but juice is ok. I just feel like it didn't help me much.
Swyped from my sexy EVO.
I'm using juice defender with ultimate juice, Calk's EViO 1.8 w/50mv undervolt. This was with a decent ammount of web browsing, a few games through out the day & some texting (no calls, who does that anymore?) But 16.5hrs & 27% battery left, not to shabby.
I loved JD on froyo but it doesn't seem to do much for my already great battery life on cm7.
I tried Green Power, I like it but it still has its GB limitations too.
I am using green right now, idk whether to blame the app or 1.90 but battery life is horrible. Went from 43%-0% within an hour doing nothing.

That is terrible I haven't used Green Power, but thought it was supposed to practically shut down everything once the screen goes off, and the phone just sits there ?
What Kernel are you using ? A different kernel could help big time, same as the PRI version you're running ? Seems the most popular PRI for better battery life is 1.77_003. And lastly check if there is a "wake lock", widgets running 100% in the background your not aware of.
I think green hurts more then it helps... atleast that was my experience while using it.

My pri and nv are the same. 1.90. How would I know if a widget was always running? I do have clockr, oneseven, and beautiful widgets clock. I'm on stock kernal, I believe 15? Whichever myns warm two point two RLS 5 comes with. I was thinking to switch back to 1.77 but I would also have to change my kernal.

Juicedefender is very good for froyo. It doesn't have gingerbread suppport yet so it doesn't work with CM7. It already gets good battery life, so oh well. Set CPU is also a little buggy on gingerbread.
When I used to use CM6, I had SetCPU and Juicedefender. I could get about 28-36 hours with moderate use. I had it configured very well.
Alright guys so today is the first time I've had this problem. I'm running warm z twopointtwo 4/7 nightly with chads 12/23. For some odd reason today my phone has been overheating. Now I wasn't able to get an exact temperature read but my guess is somewhere around "way too effing hot" degrees Fahrenheit. I say this because my phone actually got so warm today I almost couldn't touch the screen. I was seriously expecting thermonuclear meltdown! I pulled my battery and let it cool off and all was fine but still it worries me. I wasn't even doing any intense processing. I was only using the xda app and reading some threads. Throughout the day it hasn't got quite that hot but its been running noticeably warmer than usual. My battery also seems to be dieing slightly faster than usual. Now my phone is a certified refurbished less than a month old so I can't imagine this being a matter of my battery starting to die.....so anyone have any input on what could be causing this? Could it be Rom if kernel related?
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
I've tried that rom/kernel combo and it worked for me. Are you using a non OEM battery?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Nope I have the original battery still in it and everything....I mean it works beautifully outside of a few occasional hiccups here and there but nothing that isn't to be expected.....but the heat problem never happened to me before.....I mean trust me I used to have a crazy overclocked Eris that loved to get hot but never this hot. And I haven't even overclocked my dinc yet....its just kinda odd it was a one time thing but it was almost too hot to touch. It spooked me I legitimately feel like I was very close to processor meltdown.....

Well you are using a "warm" ROM
Just messing with you. I'm running Warm-Z too but Chad's 12/23 kernel won't boot for me so I usually use Lou's #4 or #8, and with them I don't feel heat issues unless I'm charging. I'd say switch kernels. As long as it's a Sense kernel.
Well like I've never flashed kernels before....I'm sure I could figure it out....but none the less this isn't a frequent problem.....that's the only time its happened. I was actually in an area that was in and out of service though.....does bouncing around in service while trying to use 3g require a lot of processing? I can't imagine it would....mebbe the heat came from my cell receiver 0.o
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Yeah looking for a signal is apparently pretty battery draining. Still not really sure about the heat issue though.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Well I mean if its battery draining that would mean more current through the phone for the battery to drain more rapidly. More current translates into heat in any application. But still the level of heat that was coming out of it was crazy. And I could actually watch my battery decrease fast as hell

Well, I'll give you the link to Lou's #4, and that's a pretty basic kernel. Really it's like flashing a ROM. You go inside your recovery, and ONLY wipe CACHE and Dalvik-Cache. Then flash the Kernel's zip. Then reboot!
NANDROID BACKUP! Don't forget!

What are the real advantages of me flashing this kernel over my current one? Like I don't think it'll help the problems with heat. I'm still interested in that on a side note though. Does it have havs? Cause I hate the fact that I lose ten percent in five minutes after unplug

Some kernels are just better for your phone, and some aren't. I took the time to find a kernel with HAVS that I've used in the past.
http://www.ziggy471.com/downloads/Ziggy471Kernel-INC-update_signed.zip
This should work fine. Ziggy's a pro.
Will that be compatible with warm z? Like I said I'm not familiar with which roms work with which kernels? And while were at it what the eff is bfs? I think I know what the acronym stands for though I'm not sure.....but I have no idea what bfs and cfs are.

Skip the kernel, update your Rom. Lol.

So back to topic with this thread....anyone think that my judgement is right with rating the heat was due to he battery drain occurring due to signal jumping?
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
I think it could be the cause of the battery drain but it doesn't seem like it should cause overheating although I could be wrong. Have you had the issue since then or was it just when you were having trouble getting a signal? BFS-Brain **** Scheduler. Linux stuff.

Possibly. Let me explain.
I'm currently running rooted 2.2 and if mine searched for signal, battery gets warm.....really warm. I flashed the radio to 11.19 (Evo) and so far, knocking on wood, my signal search issue has gone away and GPS seems to lock on instantly. I'm also using the 1800 battery from htcexpress dot com.
The only other time my phone got so hot that the amber light started flashing was in the car, charging, running GPS and streaming music at the same time. Battery temp according to my a battery app was 128 degrees F.
128 f isn't too bad....my Orange light didn't even blink that's the thing and i didn't have an app to tell me the exact temp. However I know that if through the entire case my phone is almost too hot to hold then its probably pretty close to processor melt....and that's another good point.....wtf didn't my light blink? It should have but didn't.....hmmm.....but none the less @k_nive if you agree about signal drop causing battery drain then wouldn't my above post make sense? Yanno, more battery drain = more current and more current = more generated heat due to small energy loss through the wires because of total conservation of energy without the phone following total conservation principles? Aka the phone isn't efficient enough to use all the energy supplied to it so it gives off any excess in the form of heat? And thanks about the bfs info!
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
And on a side note. I read up on bfs. I get it....kinda. I understand the point but what scheduler is used in chads 12/23? And what are the real advantages if bfs for us Android users over any other scheduler?
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
It does make sense I suppose. Its just something I haven't run into before so its hard to say for sure one way or the other but the increased battery drain could definitely result in more heat especially if you were using GPS or streaming music at the time.
Perhaps your phone didn't hit the temperature that triggers the flashing led? The phone can feel pretty warm without actually being too hot. I would get a battery widget that lets you monitor temp that way you have a more accurate picture of what's going on. As far as Chad's 12/23 kernel, I think it uses cfs as opposed to bfs but I'm not sure, I'd have to check the thread. As I understand it bfs ramps up the processor more for specific apps/processes while cfs is a more balanced scheduler. I don't know much about the differences so feel free to jump in and clarify things!
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Grrr.....so I thought that the battery temp problem was gone but Damn it if it ain't acting up again.....this time even more odd....the phone was not nearly as hot to the touch and yet my led started blinking the too hot code at me.....so wtf? Like before I almost melt the effing board and I don't get a single blink. This time its slightly warm and I start blinking. My phones losing its mind. I just got juice defender and a battery monitor widget to try and figure out wtf is up.....any more input very welcome!

Hi all,
Can you tell me how much does your battery of desire z heat? I think mine is over heating during charging. Please tell me your charging (temperature of battery an hour after pluging) and non charging temperatures in celcius.
for me around 25-30 degrees celcius
Earlier mine was -5 yours seems a lil warm hmm but now while charging 38c and 100f

My battery gets pretty warm when it's charging. Last I checked, it hovers around 40C. Shouldn't get too worried about temperature unless it breaks the 45-50 degree mark as batteries get warm in general when charging.

If its staying under 50* I wouldn't be horribly worried. When charging and OC'd mine has hit the 45* mark (had a setCPU profile for it) a few times. I just gave it a rest for a minute and its back down to normal.
If your battery is hitting the 45* mark quickly or without much use you may have an issue going on. Other than that, I wouldn't be alarmed if you get high temps under heavy use or if you're largely OC'd.

so it would be better if i wait to send. I have noticed that it is heating while i am talking with charging at the same time.
My battery tends to heat up when I'm using mobile data, but it never goes beyond 50
Oh btw, if you have high battery temps while charging, this reduces your battery life because the temps mess up the chemical compounds in the battery over time

I just got my Epic 4G Touch today, got it rooted with CWM via the Zedomax v3 kernel. Now I'm not sure what made my phone overheat, it was super hot on both sides and even a small icon with a red thermometer popped up while it was charging. Is it the kernel itself or is it because I had it overclocked with SetCPU at 1.6ghz. I thought it would be stable but I could be wrong.
Can anybody tell me if they've had overheating issues with overclocking? If I don't overclock will I have issues with the Zedomax kernal? Thanks.

Are you overclocking at all? I should have looked at the temp from setcpu, but once I felt how hot it was I turned it off asap. I reflashed stock kernel, and reflashed zedomax v3. I'll try it again without overclocking and see if it gets hot once more. Hopefully it doesn't.
*UPDATE: Charged the phone for 20 mins, looked at it and it had a message "Charging has been paused, temperature is too high." I checked setcpu and it was at 120F I guess I'll go back to stock kernel and charge it to see if it gets this hot.
Did the stock kernel fix this issue for you? I've had mine for 1 week, 1st day I rooted & flashed Starburst 1.9...last night I was charging (Motorola charger), streaming Netflix w/audio over BT for about 2.5 hours when phone locked up. I powered down by holding power button & when the "off" screen with the battery indicator came up it also had a flashing thermometer on the screen.
It will be in very similar conditions tonight, so I'll see if that was a fluke...hopefully it's not going to be a regular occurrence!
So has anybody else had this issue?
Carl
Has anyone had an issue with the One V getting quite warm during use? It's not painful, but it can get a bit uncomfortable. I just wanted to double check there's not a problem with my phone. Also, right now by battery life is crap. I doesn't last more than two hours of constant wifi, music, and webbrowsing. I don't have anything running in the background, and the phone is supposed to have a good battery life. Is there something wrong with mine?
Yes, it can get a bit overheated but it's not harmful. And for the battery problem... are you on stock? I don't have any battery issues even with OC and custom rom/kernel

I'm on the CM9 beta for Primoc. I didn't use the phone at all on stock before flashing the ROM, so I might switch back to check if that's the problem. I was gonna ask them in the ROM's dev forum, but it wouldn't let me post Maybe I'll PM one of the users. Thanks.

Yeah, it gets warm, but less extreme than my Galaxy S. I haven't really figured out the cause, seems to not happen unless it's in a warm place.
As for the battery life, having the screen on for two hours, possibly not on the lowest brightness setting, plus wifi, is just the most battery draining thing you could do. To hours of that isn't bad at all, I bet a Sensation or One X wouldn't be capable of doing that for a full hour.
