I have this kernel flashed to my AVA v9 rom...and im wondering how come my phone isn't sleeping...
The weird thing though is that my phone's battery only decreases with the screen off. I was sleeping in class, my screen was on for 30 minutes and it didnt drop one percent, i put it to sleep for 10 minutes, turn it back on and it dropped 5 percent...I've noticed that whenever I have the screen on, I actually have to do a lot of work to cause the battery to drop, but with it off I can do absolutely nothing and it'll drop. Why is that?
Im using the aggressive volting kernel btw, with setCPU, OC'd with UC'd profiles for screen off.

I'm pretty sure it's not the kernel. I have used Net's universal on two different rom's with outstanding results. Only difference was I didn't use SetCPU ... maybe give that a try?

well I went back to an OTA version of sense and got the same results without setcpu or anything other than the stock apps installed.

Overheating Question

Often while playing a game, my screen will randomly dim and i will check the brightness option where it warns me of overheating.
The battery temp is only 42C, and the phone isnt very warm, ive felt phones get way hotter.
Whats wrong? is it the phone? or normal? Anything I can do?

Is ur phone overclocked? Playing game does makes the phone really hot even without OC ur cpu.

I'm not speaking for everyone certainly but I have seen 42c while talking on the phone.
It does get a bit warm, but I never get the warning you are speaking of. I am completely stock.
I now haven't gotten to this temperature (close but not as high as 42c) in awhile.

My brightness always dims and gets limited to prevent overheating. My phone has gotten up to 125F while it was charging and I was using it (nothing very intensive though, like playing games or anything like that. Mostly texting, email, XDA) I have even had an overheating warning on the charging animation while ordnance few times too. I'm actually going to bring it in for them to look at. I'm stock kernel and rom(just rooted)
Just in a few minutes my screen has been on it just shot from 89.9F to 98F. And all I did was write this post.

125F is way too high, there's got to be something wrong with the phone. Mine sits at idle around 70F, with heavy use, it never reaches 100F. And I'm overclocked to 1.4GHZ.

Agreed. High 70s to mid 80s no matter what I do in a hot and humid hawaii climate. Reached 107 at 1.6ghz while plugged in doing 15 back to back benches to test for stability. Somethinf wrong with your phine sir

It happens only when im playing a game, also at Max brightness. Went up to about 44C. Not overclocked, but undervolted.
Is this abnormal? Should I try to get a replacement?
My GS1 got hotter than this and never gave me problems

my phone also dims
used to get temps around 115F on my evo 3D,never saw any ill effects though
this samsung does get to 102F or so occasionally,and no ill effects so far either

Well I undervolted, which doesnt make it run hotter, it'll make it cooler if anything.

I've never understood the logic behind that. A processer uses a certain amount of power, measured in Watts. Watts equals current times voltage. If you lower voltage, current has to increase, and more current equals more heat. Am I missing something?

[Q] Things that will cause permanent damage to phone?

I'm not talking about water damage or scratched screen. I'm talking damage that can be done through overclocking or overvolting or frying the motherboard/CPU in any way.
I want to make my Droid last the longest it can. But I also like to see how hot the battery is (to stop phone from baking). So I rooted it and installed cm7, and installed CPU master so I can see how hot it is. CPU master had an update and apparently it makes phones crash because of overvolting, even if they don't overclock (like me). So my phone crashed and I had to pull battery out to reboot it. I really just want to know if I caused permeant damage to the CPU/ processor.
Am I worrying about this too much?

I overclock to 1.5 gHz with no issues. I have also undervolted my kernel as well. Make sure you have a kernel that is compatible with whatever over/under you are trying to achieve.

I've been running mine Oc'd to 1.2 ghz and Uv'd -25. Doesn't seem to have caused any issues. Battery life has been great. I've never noticed any excessive heat from the rear cover when playing games that may tax the Cpu/Gpu and cause heat. I think the Inc2 is built pretty well, and can take quite a lot even when pushed hard

Mine gets pretty hot sometimes I wonder at times if is getting damage, but it has never stop working

My temp stays around 34 degrees Celsius and I'm OC at 1.5.

mine has only got to around 100 f so far when i use it for long periods of time

T989 turns off at random times..

hey all, couldnt search forums since its disabled. so like my title says, my phone turns off whenever. the samsung logo comes up and turns off. it happens every so often but nothing annoying. to get it back on is either take battery out or plug to charger and turn it on. when i did this, it gave me the searching for battery thing. this leads me to believe it could be battery? it happens whether the battery is 90% or 20%. anybody have this problem? my phone is rooted using juggs 5.0. phone is just over a month old so wonder if i can get a replacement battery to ruled that one? thanks for the help..

Mines does the same thing except it only reboot when its on charge, and all my contacts dissapear

@OP: Try flashing a different ROM.
Juggernaut has pretty aggressive UVing that not all phones might like.

It happened to me just today. I tried opening Facebook and for whatever reason it FCed. So I reopened it and my phone just turned off. I had to hold the power button for 15 seconds before I felt a vibration and it was alive again. Not sure what the issue is but it's safe to say you're not the only one experiencing this

Random reboots are usually a sign of too aggressive of undervolting. If it's not happening under heavy CPU load and is just happening during standby/sleep phases, then you're just barely on the edge of too much undervolting. Download system tuner from the market and go to voltages in the main menu then knock up the voltage one step (+12.5mV). You should be fine then.
For reference, you can compare your voltages to this list of stock voltages to see what Jugs' global undervolt is. I'm not too familiar with Jugs v5.0:

cool. I give this a try. The last time it turned off was right after I used gps. yesterday I was just browsing. thanks again.

Are you overclocking? If so what freqs/governor? Mine would do this when I would clock it too high for too long. May be an undervolting problem as well.

Your overclocking issue is actually still an undervolting issue. Your phone would reboot after overclocking for long periods of time because the processor wasn't getting supplied enough voltages for those higher clock speeds.
Undervolting isn't a linear process: if you run a global -50mV undervolt and cap your processor at 1.5Ghz, that doesn't mean that you can run a -50mV undervolt at a 1.8Ghz cap. For example, I'm currently undervolted -112.5mV at 1.35Ghz but if I bump my processor to 1.8Ghz, my phone reboots immediately because -112.5mV for 1.8Ghz is way too big of an undervolt.

Thanks for the clarification. I've not really dabbled in undervolting much, and haven't been too concerned with overclocking since the ol' mt3g days. I'm definitely going to read more about it. I've found that for my s2, stock kernel w/ stock frequency set and governor have worked best. Every device is different they say. Thanks your way for the knowledge. Always appreciated.

W Heats Up while charging

hey guys is it normal that our W heats up to about i think 45-50 degrees while charging.. sometimes it heats up too when using the internet via reverse tethering.. just wanna know if its normal, and some advices to prevent it would be awesome.

Its happening to me aswell getting really hot.
I recently flashed to BlackNotes Rom and when i was charging it overnight for the first time,when i woke up i picked up my phone i immediatly dropped it.
i checked on set cpu the speed was min122 max 1401 ondemand.
ALSO i checked the temp it WAS 60c literally i swear phones should never go over 50c.On stock rom the highest i was every on was 45c playing games.
From then my phone always gets hot with 1401mhz. i dont know why.
With normal use average temp 31c-35c it used to be 27c stock ROM.
I think i sholud get a new battery because 60c is rediculous that could explode it and i thought li-ion batterys have fail safe or something like that for 50c???
EDIT: setCpu 122min 768max and my battery is still 36c im not playing any games im just on homescreen.

WOW. WOW. 60c is too far hot! and yes your phone and motherboard can be burned! When I using BN chapter 2, and when playing games (1401 mhz) the temperature never above 42c, and then I limit the cpu, it will automatically set the cpu speed 245-368 with powersave governor, and screenoff with the same configuration. so when idle, my phone never above 25c (im using arco CM9 now). and I suggesting you to buy a new battery

my phone heat up too,but about 40C only

I've been on the Bionic cow rom for the last few days with data enabled, anyway went to send 4 1.1mb pictures to another email address today and as well as taking around 10-15 mins (2G) it got really got like through my trousers it was making my leg quite hot but never seem'd to get that on original rom

just an addition to my post. i live in the philippines where the temperature is getting really hot this few days. i tried to charge my phone on the office where its about a bit cold and the phone never heated up. are you guys from a cold place and still heats up? if thats the case then my problem is just normal.

maybe you can try download cpu spy from play store and check your cpu time in state. now i'm using bionic cow rom with xxlm8 kernel, the cpu time in state is always 1401 mhz. it's fast but create heat when playing games n surfing!!! i've attach my device screen shot as reference.

sure ill try that app.. my phone heats up too now when im surving using droidvpn.

i found an app that displays the current temperature but only for the battery, i dunno if only the battery heats up and not the phone.. the attached screenshot was the normal temperature of my phone, ill try to upload another once i got time for hard gaming or browsing that can heat up the phone, maybe on weekend.

My phone usually goes up till 4OC. But thats when I use data network and watching movies on the web at the same time. When charging my phone heats up to 35C. Other than that I cant think of any other ways how my phone heats up. But will let you guys know when something comes up.

well right now on stock but i am thinking of flashing [ROM] Cow ROM v7 (Bionic Cow 2).bcz it look like it is best rom for galaxy w

does your phone heats up while your using it? or just on charging? mine only heats up while charging so i only charge on the office to maintain the temperature, its better to charge on cold places, however if your phone heats up while you are using it then maybe its because of some tweaking that you've done to your phone thats makes it use too much CPU that causes the heat.

normally i play some hd games mostly bcz of games my phones heat up.does it happen to anyone too while playing games phone heat up.if i overclock my cpu and reduce the frequency @ 1.2 or 1.0 mhz i think then my phone heat less

i also play HD games and watch movies, but my phone only heats up when im using reverse tethering(means i use internet on my phone via usb from PC internet) and i think it will really cause heat because of internet and the same time charging while connected in the USB, maybe you made some more adjustments that made your phone heat easily. but if you play for hours then its normal, just for me don't play that much long or less your internal chips will melt.
