Hi all,
Can you tell me how much does your battery of desire z heat? I think mine is over heating during charging. Please tell me your charging (temperature of battery an hour after pluging) and non charging temperatures in celcius.
for me around 25-30 degrees celcius
Earlier mine was -5 yours seems a lil warm hmm but now while charging 38c and 100f

My battery gets pretty warm when it's charging. Last I checked, it hovers around 40C. Shouldn't get too worried about temperature unless it breaks the 45-50 degree mark as batteries get warm in general when charging.

If its staying under 50* I wouldn't be horribly worried. When charging and OC'd mine has hit the 45* mark (had a setCPU profile for it) a few times. I just gave it a rest for a minute and its back down to normal.
If your battery is hitting the 45* mark quickly or without much use you may have an issue going on. Other than that, I wouldn't be alarmed if you get high temps under heavy use or if you're largely OC'd.

so it would be better if i wait to send. I have noticed that it is heating while i am talking with charging at the same time.
My battery tends to heat up when I'm using mobile data, but it never goes beyond 50
Oh btw, if you have high battery temps while charging, this reduces your battery life because the temps mess up the chemical compounds in the battery over time

Just how hot does it get? And how long does the battery last? With constant use and without?
How's anyone supposed to help you without any information?
We all suffer from crappy battery life some worse than others. It all depends on how you use the phone some days I'm lucky to get 3hours from a full charge (usually when the kids are shouting at me) but others if I hardly touch it it'll last 2 days at least.

I know..about wildfire's crappy battery life...the main problem is over heating...Ive heard that overclocking gives out over heating...but in my case I didn't overclocked it anytime...it overheats on using internet connection..like browsing downloading etc...I hardly surf 30min and my cell start heating..!! Is their any battery voltage problem on my device..?

Normal running temperature is between 25-35 degrees, obviously when downloading, playing music etc it will get hotter, there's other things that can affect temperature too though such as outside temperature if its hot outside the temp can shoot up pretty fast when using the phone with a heavy load.
Pretty sure I read somewhere that HTC said the phone could handle 60 degrees Max and my guess is your hitting around 40-45 degrees (that seems about the norm from what I've been reading from other users) there's apps in the market to measure temperature and I'm pretty sure the battery monitor in spare parts tells you the battery temp.
If your getting anymore than 45 degrees I'd say there maybe something slightly wrong but if not don't worry about it, just give the phone 10 minutes to cool down everytime it gets warm.
And may I ask is it plugged in charging while you use? because that will add to the temp too.

there's a free app called "elixir" which has a widget that you can adjust for tons of info (CPU, free space, RAM, wifi, tethering, ... everything basically) including battery temperature. You can check it out if you want.
When I tethered outside in the hot sun my battery got to about 42 degrees, I killed it then and cooled it, but as said before it should be able to take that kind of temperatures (mid/high 30's are no prob)

There are several different applications on the android market which will tell you the temperature of your battery in Celsius and Fahrenheit. That is about average temp, I have two phones sitting next to me right now and they are both in the mid 80's range on the temp. You want to be concerned if your battery reaches temperatures exceeding 101 degrees (Fahrenheit) (38 Degrees Celsius) when doing any activity and especially if it is getting that hot while sitting in standby.
I've had a recent problem with mine the other day I was having a really bad battery drain and the battery was over heating bad(im talking 105 degrees) since then I was able to fix what was draining the battery but I noticed when I use only my car charger (which was meant fire my vibrant) it heats up. I'm thinking the car charger voltage is different.

Hi there! I had this problem with my Nexus twice now, that's why I'm bothering you.
Long story short - I plugged my phone to charge in the evening, woke up in the morning to find that the phone is VERY hot(area around the camera on the back) and switched off, and won't turn on. After doing a battery pull the phone switched on, the battery was full and the temperature was at 46C. It happened to me on the Monday night but I thought it is just something silly, but it happened to me today again. I was not using any hardware intensive application before I went to bed, just writing emails with my GF.
Any ideas?
ive left mine on overnight every night since saturday and its not overheating

I'd do a factory reset and see if it does the same after another night of charging with no apps on it.
If it does the same, the phones probably defective.

Have you modded the phone since you got it? Like rooting or installing any mods.
How many apps have you installed on it? Any that may keep running in the background?
If it does it again then I would advise going into Settings, Backup & Reset and restore the phone to factory settings. Then put the phone back on charge for about 8 hours and sede if the temperature goes up again. As mentioned it may just be an app thats making the phone go hot but if it goes hot after a factory reset then you will need to send it back for replacement.
Mark.
The first thing to go from heat damage is the battery. 50 degrees celcius and up is in the battery killing temperature range.
As long as it's under warranty I guess do what you want. But I'd highly recommend setting up an app like setcpu to force a lower clock speed when temp>44 celcius, just to be safe. No sense in killing a battery while trying to fix the problem.

I leave mine on charge overnight, and it doesn't do this... so I'd agree with others in that it's either a rogue app or a duff handset.

The only two applications that run constantly in the background are the DoubleTwist AirSync module and Llama profile manager(and the default weather+news widget). As both have not been tested with Android 4.0 it may be it. Is there any good app to display the current CPU usage by a process? Just like "top" in the console.

I think the battery reporting may be slightly borked, but this could just be down to the battery being run in. I'm just going to keep an eye on it for now.

Thank you, I have used different task managers but none of them displayed CPU usage.
I have discharged my battery pretty much completely, and now I'm charging the phone again, with my battery monitoring app running - at 50% capacity now the temperature is 42C. Can it be normal? The task manager shows that no process is using any CPU time.
That is hot but not that bad. Upper 40's celcius (47-49) is not good. And 50 is critical. Download setcpu and downclock the cpu to 500mhz while charging to help keep the temperature low in case an app spikes cpu usage that doesn't show up in task manager.
Sometimes just flipping the phone so the back is exposed is enough to cool down a phone.
Keep in mind most electronics have solder that will melt between 120 to 180 degrees celcius (248 - 356 farenheit!). While your phone should never ever get close to that, 50 degrees celcius pales in comparison. But it can kill the battery.
Seems most people who have had the problem of their phone spiking in temperature only have it happen a couple times and that's it.
I really recommend setcpu as you can have it run your phone slower when it hits a certain temperature to help keep it cool. As well as sound a notification that it has past that temperature.
It will prevent damage while you try and find out what may be causing the spike.
Though 42 degrees celcius is relatively normal for charging temperatures.
For my phone I have it set at 44 degrees celcius. I'd rather catch it before it gets even close to bad.

Yeah, ive had this two nights in a row.i deliberately rebooted my phone and put it on charge last night to eliminate an app being the cause.

well i would say if temp reaches 50 c then leave ur phone for some time as it will affect battery life and also don't use ur phone while charging until the battery is charged more than 50% as many times while playing games at charging less than 50% our phone consumes more power than the power it is receiving

It's an aluminum body! Why doesn't it leech heat?
I'm gonna look into a new phone for the summer.
I am also from California and my phone gets hot from time to time. Case is a big factor on the cooling side. Plastic, rubber, and silicone are good insulators and will keep the heat in. i would recommend removing the case when phone temps get to 115+F
I live in PA so I have never gotten a warning about the battery temperature reaching that limit, but I have been alarmed sometimes just at how hot the phone feels when I am using it heavily. It's hard to tell with a case on but without it, if I am running backups/restore in recovery or playing games, even in the cooler climate it has given me cause for concern.
